It's worth playing but have a lot of issue in gameplay. Characters. Story . World design and more

First off, I normally wouldn't use a rating system in games since one person's 6 is different from another person's so ignore the rating.

Now not having finish the game yet, the gameplay is solid. The camera doesn't go back enough so you will get hit by enemies from behind. The skeleton archers do too much damage to you, and it does add walking sequences. The worst "gameplay" mechanic

Now not having finish the game yet, the gameplay is solid. The camera doesn't go back enough so you will get hit by enemies from behind. The skeleton archers do too much damage to you, and it does add walking sequences. The worst "gameplay" mechanic that slows down the pace for no reason. Save points don't refill your health or estus flask, I mean Nephilim Respite.

But by biggest problems are technical issues. On the PS4 with the 1.10 patch, the game runs at an unstable 40 with frame rate drops happening 10% of the time. Thankfully it doesn't happen in combat, but this should be an issue in the first place. DMC5 and God of War run at 60 on the PS4 pro and are graphically more complicated. The game freezes when loading areas so that breaks the pacing. The smallest glitch in this is that the game would still load part of the world when you turn the camera at least 38% of the time. Thankfully it's loading areas far away and loads it in a second, but you can still see areas load which is annoying. It was just rereleased too early. I should have to wait for a patch for a game to be finished. The game should just be finished when it releases. I would have happily waited another year for this game to run at a stable 60, the game to play smoothly without it freezing from loading the area, and to actually load the area properly. But they rushed it

I wouldn't recommend this game to everyone. Not even fans of the series. It doesn't play like the other two. Unless you play it for the story. There are good things with it. Level design is pretty good. Being interconnected and kinda interesting to explore. Combat can be fun, though not as good as the second one. Honestly, play it for yourself and see if you will lole it. Though I recommend the PC version. I haven't played it, but I have seen some gameplay. With it running at 60. Though take my word with a grain of salt. I'm not 100% sure if all of the technical issues are not on the PC port

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For the genre of game it is, it performs about how you'd expect. Basic but satisfying enough combos, though for the brief time until you first acquire your heavy attacks via elemental Hollows, that's all you've got. Generally however, spamming one or two buttons gets the job done and no enemy or boss really requires a true mixup in the gameplay.

The story is... fine. Fury changes in a very predictable and, in my opinion, somewhat unnatural manner. From 'who cares about these stupid humans' to 'I must protect them for they are so important to the universe' within the course of the 12-hour journey. This comes purely from meeting the foes of the game in the Seven Deadly Sins, who simply behave as Fury expected them to. Yet, it's her brief conversations with them that change Fury so drastically.

Summary: It's a fun enough game. The Hollows are really cool, like different colours of Super Saiyan. The story is lacking however, and mostly serves to play into the eventual Darksiders 4.

It is truly a shame, because if this was PC I might have found a way to fix it, but on ps4 I’m at the mercy of the developers, but with this latest entry I might be persuaded not to buy any other games from them if this is the level of quality I’m gonna get. Good thing I didn’t pay for this game though (got it on ps plus as one of my two free games one month) if I did, the score would be lower, since this is unacceptable in a console game. Expand

And there are the checkpoints and the loading screens. Every time you die on a boss, you get a loading screen that lasts up to a minute. Then you need to run to boss, that's another minute. And while you're running, you get ANOTHER loading screen or two, because the game has trouble of rendering the world. I also had to redo a boss that I already beat, just because the game didn't save before closing it, even if I was in front of the bloody checkpoint.

All in all, I'd like to see more Darksiders, but not like this. Boss fights were entertaining, but the technical issues are so many the overall experience is really disappointing.

They have tried to cash in on the dark souls alike bandwagaon, the game can be very unforgiving, which tbh again for me is fine, i kind of enjoy that mastering a boss fight to finally get it done but add how unforgiving it is to all the technical problems and it becomes a very bad joke, one of the worst is the horrific load times on death, its like playing something back on the ps2, add on top of that very unforgiving checkpoints and when you just want to be learning a fight to master you end up spending so much time staring at load screens / experiencing super slow frame rates and then out of the blue your out of the map glitched and have to restart it, the game world though is nicely done and it retains that oh i can go back there now i have got that ability progression type and it works very well, old faces return, it carries on the story which is great, i love the style of the design of the game, that is apart from fury! with how awesome death and war looked, fury literally looks like a 5 yr old school kid has designed an anime char, i love the change with the hollows and while playing its fine but then the cutscenes kick in and you see her face, omg it looks so bad i honestly dont know what they were thinking, its such a shame if they had kept the darksiders game style i would of easily been giving this a 9, but the problems are serious and unforgivable, me and my friend were so excited about ds3, he got it release day and i was so shocked the next morning to wake up to a txt saying dont buy it at full price! and he is a fan boy. :(
Awesome game world that plays the same style as ds 1 and 2
carries on the story with old faces returning
i love the idea of the new abilities/ hollows and the effect on fury
Horrific technical difficulties, long load times/ massive frame drops (single figure in places) / lots and lots of bugs incl the classic out of bounds/ map, makes some of the fights almost unplayable/ unfair
The devs ripped off dark souls style combat ( lazy and greedy and shows they dont care about us fans) + technical issues = very annoyed!
very poor design of main char
as mentioned earlier i so want to rate this 8/9 but i just cant it just scrapes a 5. this dev team needs serious help technically and for ripping off darksouls style combat very badly you should be ashamed and consider the fans who have raised the first 2 games to cult status, because this is like giving them 'the bird'

The fighting system(!s). I can only attack, when I dodge. The rest of the attacks are useless. They don't make damage, the boss hits you, and you die. A normal attack makes 60dmg, the dodge makes 120 min.
Some of the bosses make undodgeable damages. First boss right at the start spans waves at each other, and you can try to dodge them in mid air. A lot of the fighting is annoying and you can easily die when 3 enemies gangs you and stun-locks you.
I stopped playing when I had 2 lag waves at Wrath. The second boss. I died twice, at nothing.

    I can't play this game.

Much worst than previous 2 games. Combat is lacking any depth, bad performance on consoles (even on pro version), mediocre graphics, irritating camera work and simple puzzles. As a fan of 1st two games, I'm really disappointed. The only good thing about 3rd instalment of Darksiders franchise is its art design.

Completely changed the genre from Darksiders 1&2. Where they were hack n slash puzzley dungeon RPG's this game has completely ripped off the dark souls mechanics. And unfortunately due to input lag, poor hit boxes and a very slow healing animation what should be a tough fight becomes near impossible. I'm playing on Balanced (normal) and it is anything but.

Maybe they will patch the poor

Maybe they will patch the poor control lag but who asked for a genre change? When over the many years since DS2 were fans saying make Darksiders more souls like?

For me i just dont like the repetition of having to wade through hordes of mobs every time you restart from a checkpoint. It's boring, time consuming and slows down the story progression. I'll bump it down to easy mode and try and burn through it but then it's getting traded.

Update: Having finished the game i very much enjoyed Fury's journey and story. I even prefer it over Death's but it doesn't bare replaying given the frustration of everything in between the juicy story points.

Textures not loading fast enough, hitboxes being out of place, "cutscenes" being ruined by texture pop ins or even whole character models shifting and many more issues, that should honestly not be in any game on release.
The combat in this game is equally as terrible, it neither resembles Darksouls or Darksiders of the past and feels like a cheap Chinese copyright knockoff of the two. The game tries for the "close combat" approach of Darksouls but falls incredibly on its face when every move forces you to shift in any given direction and enemies fly around you like ninjas, leading you to switch to Darksiders of old and try and just kill the thing before it kills you.
I am writing this review before finishing the game but I am giving it leniency points just for the story. Yes it is not exactly J.R.R Tolkein quality but I find it satisfactory for a Darksiders game.

As a side note I am glad people are finding this game enjoyable, but giving it a needless 10/10 is completely irresponsible. The game is a shambles and the developers should see the score it deserves, not the score it has been bumped up to.

Sadly thats about it. Coming to the Con's:

    - Downgrade in variety of skills (No skill tree or actual Magic abilities)
    - The removal of loot which ultimately brings stale gameplay
    - Story progressive based weapons
    - The different secondary weapons give no real advantage over each other
    - Low damage numbers make you feel weak
    - Upgrading your weapons has no point since the damage increase is so low you can barely feel a difference (Whip Lv.9/Thunder Staff Lv.10)
    - Chaos form is extremely weak, its weaker then your regular hits but at least you dont lose HP while using it
    - No quick save
    - The hitboxes on a good part of moves and monsters are terrible
    - Even tho i dont mind the harder difficulty overall, i feels badly adjusted and basically ignores its casual player base since easy isnt really "easy"
    - The Puzzle aspect of the previous games was dumbed down to "swing over hole" and "fire jump"
    - Double jump is bugged and barely adds height to a regular single jump so i found myself constantly in fire form for optimal movement
    - Multiple crashes in just 28h of playtime
    - Dodge delay if you try to dodge back to back
    - To my knowledge there is no armor set available except the 2 i got. The standard grey and Gold one. They dont provide any stats whatsoever.
    - Leveling up Fury doesnt have an impact on the gameplay so you feel absolute no difference. ( i got to lv. 58 on my first Walkthrough, Lv.14 HP/Lv.22 Dmg/Lv.22 Magic)
    - There is seemingly no reason to collect souls other then Leveling up Fury which like i said doesnt denefit you in the slightest
    - Unbelievably cringy and edgy character script of Fury

I play on PC with controller and i have a mostly stable framerate and overall great performance. I see a lot of people complain about performance but i had a rather positive experience even tho sometimes the game freezes for about 2 seconds but continues to run smoothly again afterwards.

Overall i would not recommend this game. It has no variety in gameplay. It offers no satisfaction when upgrading or leveling up your weapons and character. Customization is non existent. Its a shell of a game with huge potential.
If you want to have a fun time hackin' and slashin' I do not recommend this game!

First off, let me warn you about the scummy marketing THQ did with the trailer showing Fury and her horse... You NEVER get to ride the horse. Also, for those who were expecting the abyssal armor (which was in both previous games) it's gone and they're selling it as DLC in the future.
Moving on to it's technical department. Tons of frame drops and screen freezes because the game doesn't load the enviroment properly, as well as a game breaking bug where it randomly crashes loosing your WHOLE progress. Yes, you loose everything you did up to that moment.
Also, I can't possibly understand how a game with such tight spaces and mediocre graphics barely runs at 30fps.. God of War and Nier: Automata had better graphics and 5x times the world in size, yet they both had an uncapped option for PS4 Pro that could raise the framerate to 45-60fps. So what the **** is wrong with this one?
Lastly, I'll mention a couple of things about the gameplay. The fact that yet another game decides to rip off Dark Souls without having a clue on what makes the series good is already irritating.. But what's more irritating is how broken the dodging mechanic is. DO NOT dodge to the sides my friends, there are no invincibility frames unless you do a perfect dodge.
Gore and finishers are also removed in case you haven't noticed.

I believe Darksiders is a franchise with potential and that's why it kills me watching it getting screwed with entries like this. Darksiders 2 suffered from huge technical issues, same with this one. The lore is great, the artstyle is different and unique. It's a promising franchise, it just needs more attention or a new development team.

The opposite of Fun.. Loved the previous ones and there are glimpses here in some boss battles and cut scenes but the overall mechanics and combat decisions make this game extremely hard to like.
And the loading screens, f@ck the constant loading screens! 3 minutes loading screens to fight for 4 seconds where you get one-shot by anything (that can block 100% your attacks while you are not

As much as I love Darksiders and want to support it, I must say that this game is a colossal disaster.. I wasn't expecting something mind blowing since I knew it was on a smaller budget, but some things like cut content, false marketing and huge technical issues are inexcusable.

So this is a personal one...
I recently played the first two games and they kind of reignited my love for gaming, which has been lost for a while. And then I started this. First thing I notice is a solid framerate of 15-25 fps at most. In no way do the graphics or gameworld justify this one bit. Don't get me wrong, it looks good and all, but there are games, that look better and don't have

I recently played the first two games and they kind of reignited my love for gaming, which has been lost for a while. And then I started this. First thing I notice is a solid framerate of 15-25 fps at most. In no way do the graphics or gameworld justify this one bit. Don't get me wrong, it looks good and all, but there are games, that look better and don't have these issues. With the stuttering follows the frustration. Dodging is wonky as hell and you lose orientation pretty easy. The concept of finding the seven deadly sins is a cool idea, but not executed in the most engaging way. And when you reach the sins themselves YOU WILL RAGE because of the afformentioned issues. There are attackes, which you either have to be very lucky to dodge (positionwise) or are damn near impossible to predict and thus to dodge. Darksiders 3 has a few cool aspects to its gameplay and the dialogue is kind of funny, at least between Fury and the Watcher, but other characters are dismissable and forgetable. Next thing is the map. Why do we not get to see the worldmap or partial maps? This complicates traversing and backtracking in a way, that I don't want to do it. The first games had one and they are 8 and 6 years older. Another feature completely gone is quicksaving. The only times the game sets a checkpoint is when you find a Vulgrim location, manual saving is completely gone. This makes many parts of the game exremely frustrating, when you die and you have to do 15-20 mins of gameplay all over again. Another thing, which bugs me is consumeables being gone after dying. I buy shards from Vulgrim before I fight a boss, I use a shard, I die and the shard is gone and I can't buy another one, because all my souls are gone. I really want to like it, but the amount of missing features, framedrops and frustrating moments make it very hard for me to do so. Very sad and disappointing.

I’d much rather have a meaty and engaging adventure that’s happy to embrace its videogame origins over a lavishly budgeted and beautiful ‘experience’ littered with dull introspective and endless navel gazing. Darksiders III gleefully provides the former while completely shunning the latter, and I’m all for it.

If the idea was to get you into Fury's angry mindset, then job done - though in truth you more often feel like one of her lesser-known cousins, Boredom or Irritation. [Issue#328, p.112]

An uninspired sequel that feels like it was rushed out the door.
