If the idea was to get you into Fury's angry mindset, then job done - though in truth you more often feel like one of her lesser-known cousins, Boredom or Irritation. [Issue#328, p.112]

All things said and done, Darksiders is a game that you might buy when it goes super cheap. Far from a triple A title, it lacks depth and sadly pretty much any real enjoyment playing it. If there is to be another game in this series they are going to have to do heaps to win me back. I’d give it a miss.

The comeback of Darksiders is a let-down of apocalyptic scale. Its obvious some ideas are borrowed from a different darker game series, but Darksiders does not add any finesse to it. Plus, with so many bugs, it is simply not fun to play.

As an odd, seemingly disconnected but nonsensically intertwined chapter in this franchise, it just falls flat. To play Darksiders III is to engage with a relic of a bygone era, when stiff mechanics and empty space defined the action-adventure genre.

It’s just not sure what kind of game it wants to be. It either needed to fully commit to the style of past games or or embrace its new tactical combat wholeheartedly, and it’s disappointing to see it embrace neither. Far from being a triumphant return, Darksiders 3 is easily the low point for the series.

It commits no cardinal sins but this belated return to the world of Darksiders comes across as shallow, frustrating, and disappointingly dull.

It’s envious of better games like Dark Souls and Devil May Cry, lustful of the relevance those titles have, sloth-like in its combat, and too proud to delay itself in order to fix its glut of technical shortcomings. A better game is hidden somewhere within its depths, beneath its glaring issues that beg for more development time. But as it stands, it’s a hobbled, confused mess of a game that’s a victim of a lot of the sins it proclaims to be against.

Darksiders 3 retrogrades on its predecessors with an unfocused approach that constantly clashes with itself. There are remnants of a good game here, buried within the vivacious combos of a combat style this game doesn't want to embrace. Unfortunately, it's buried far too deep to ever salvage.

There's little to love about Darksiders III, even for longtime fans.

The game is a nightmare to play through, with an unlikable protagonist, a chugging frame rate, and a mountain of bugs. It’s completely and utterly broken, but even when it works (which is almost never), it amounts to nothing more than a below average hack-and-slash with some decent puzzles.

Darksiders used to be a damn good copy of Zelda. Now it’s a damn awful ripoff of Dark Souls. Yet another game that doesn’t understand why the Souls series is successful, THQ Nordic’s heartbreaking Darksiders III annoys and exasperates at every turn. On top of that, it’s a stripped down sequel, thoroughly reduced in scale compared to Darksiders II… and the first Darksiders, for that matter! It’s ugly, its performance is horrible, and goes so far in cloning Dark Souls it even starts stealing lore and terminology. Utter garbage.

I wasn't expecting something mind blowing since I knew it was on a smaller budget, but some things like cut content, false marketing and huge technical issues are inexcusable.

First off, let me warn you about the scummy marketing THQ did with the trailer showing Fury and her horse... You NEVER get to ride the horse. Also, for those who were expecting the abyssal armor (which was in both previous games) it's gone and they're selling it as DLC in the future.
Moving on to it's technical department. Tons of frame drops and screen freezes because the game doesn't load the enviroment properly, as well as a game breaking bug where it randomly crashes loosing your WHOLE progress. Yes, you loose everything you did up to that moment.
Also, I can't possibly understand how a game with such tight spaces and mediocre graphics barely runs at 30fps.. God of War and Nier: Automata had better graphics and 5x times the world in size, yet they both had an uncapped option for PS4 Pro that could raise the framerate to 45-60fps. So what the **** is wrong with this one?
Lastly, I'll mention a couple of things about the gameplay. The fact that yet another game decides to rip off Dark Souls without having a clue on what makes the series good is already irritating.. But what's more irritating is how broken the dodging mechanic is. DO NOT dodge to the sides my friends, there are no invincibility frames unless you do a perfect dodge.
Gore and finishers are also removed in case you haven't noticed.

I believe Darksiders is a franchise with potential and that's why it kills me watching it getting screwed with entries like this. Darksiders 2 suffered from huge technical issues, same with this one. The lore is great, the artstyle is different and unique. It's a promising franchise, it just needs more attention or a new development team.

Definitely more difficult than the previous two games, but there are different settings you can play on. The combat is smooth, the designs are lovely, and Fury isn't one to take lightly. I love her feistiness.
As we all know Darksiders is a fan favorite due to it's art style, lore, story, hack 'n' slash combat, and lovable, or shall I say, unlovable characters. Also because it's a game that removes you from real life, and into fantasy. And isn't that why most of us play video games? For the escape? The franchise has aways taken inspiration from other games, and this time around we can clearly see Metroid and Dark Souls, yes, even I hate hearing that in reviews, but in this case, it's true.
In this 3rd game, they've taken bits and pieces from the first two things, removed a lot, and added a lot. Which isn't a bad thing, as this is how games change and evolve. Whether you miss the chests, the horse riding, or even the hundreds of weapons/armour loot, there are still some finishers and plenty of things to add to your inventory, upgrades, and ass-kicking to be had. The creativity with Fury & her attitude, as well as each of the Seven Deadly Sins, makes for quite the game just vocally during gameplay and cutscenes. The mixture of it all flows nicely.
Now, is this my favorite game of the series thus far? I don't know yet, as I plan to do another complete run through to help decide. But, what I will say is, at the end of the day, it's still indeed a Darksiders game. It feels, plays, and looks like a Darksiders game. And that to me, as a huge fan since the beginning, is extremely important!
Don't let some of the bad reviews hinder your experience. A lot of the performance issues have been resolved or are in process. And most of the reviewers haven't even completed the entire game and are basing their opinion off an hour or two. If you love the franchise and this game interests you, go get it, and let your own experience decide your own opinion, not someone else's. I'm sure you wont regret buying it.
