This could be one of the most well balanced games that are available to play on your PS4. Good story(For a Souls game), good mechanics, great gameplay, good difficult, amazing atmosphere and incredible satisfying combat.

    Top 3 Souls game.

Pretty damn good. I think it's a better game than DS1 but I think I still prefer DS1...does that make sense? Very good game.

This is one of my top 5 favourite games of all time currently. It has such a large amount of options for builds. The boss fights are great and enjoyable when you finally overcome them. I took a long time to platinum this. It was cancerous to grind for the covenant items which is a big drawback but this is not a forced mechanic.
Thank you for reading. Enjoy Gaming.

Combat felt so satisfying in this game compared to ds1 and ds2. I love how cinematic the bosses in this game were, easily has the best bosses of the trilogy and the dlc further proves this. Although some level designs were not fromsoft's best the game is still the best in the trilogy.

The game is amazing. There is nothing as satisfying as finally beating a boss after struggling on it for a while. The only issue is that it can be hard to know where to go and what to do to progress.

For a spell user this is how 10% of my game is. Secondly as I'm playing a software update takes place and the problem gets worse. How long do I wait for the next software update. Fantastic game but a game of this challenge level cannot have these issues. One other issue with this game which no one talks about is the online portion of the game being necessary. Some bosses for some builds are just un-winnable with certain builds (ie magic) and require co-op help. Should the servers shut down I would be stuck being not able to progress in the game. As awesome as this game can be those features for me make it worthy of deducting 2 points off the quality of what could be a perfect game. Lets face it this is a 30-80 hour game and if one is going to replay it it will be in the future for me and who knows when that will be. Still in the present this game can be a perfect 10 if you make the right build but lets not forget if you chose magic or pyromancy as I did maybe your experience will be on the lower end of the scale awaiting another game with a different build. Or not. Expand

From the perspective a of a Souls veteran who put thousands of hours into previous titles, I'm actually glad that this is supposed to be the last one. While it's still pretty good Souls material, it has it's moments and I really enjoyed my playthroughs, I must say, this has been my least favourite entry in the series.

It lacks it's own unique flavor, most places you visit, you feel like you've been there before, most NPC's you meet you feel like you've met before, most items and weapons are straight up copy-paste from previous games, it just feels like playing the same thing all over again, I appreciate the nostalgic tidbits here and there, but this went a little bit too far, whole experience felt too repetitive, like all previous Souls titles mixed together without creating it's own unique identity.

It's still an amazing game that's worth playing through at least once, but the thing is, Demon Souls, Dark Souls and Bloodborne were true masterpieces, even Dark Souls 2 while it had some problems, I enjoyed it more, mainly for it's amazing multiplayer/pvp/covenants, which is another area where DS3 is seriously lacking. The fact that it's probably the most linear of all Souls games doesn't help either and severely hurts replayability.

To end the review on a praising the sun note, world design is again top notch here, very complex especially in it's verticality, some areas such as Irithyll are just beautiful, gameplay is still fun, bosses that stand out this time for me were Abyss Watchers, Dancer or Nameless King. Some of the lore elements were very interesting, entire questline with Yuria and lord of hollows, mysteries around Londor or children of Gwynevere, very good stuff and it made me go back for some more digging, so as I said, still a great game and a suiting end to the franchise, but...

I hope this was truly the last Souls title and I'm looking forward to see something really new from From Soft next time, because the talent is absolutely still there, they just need to focus on new ideas instead of rehashing the old ones. 8/10

Dark Souls III is, by far, the hardest game I have ever played. As a person who loved and was decent at Bloodborne, this game proved to be quite the challenge. It is a little glitchy, and some of the bosses are a little weak, but this is a challenging, yet very exhilarating game to play.

A typical fromsoft game exactly as would be expected. Well almost.

Firstly there is the standard suite of issues, non-corporeal cover, camera randomly unlocking, a strange issue unique to this iteration in which swiping attacks will considered to not be blocked by holding your shield up as the game hitboxes them from the side (i doubt this is intentional as it is inconsistent) - but any returning player will be used to them and any new player will learn to forgive eventually.

The visuals aren't as striking or interesting as bloodborne, I thought fromsoft was taking a step in a new direction but it has come full circle castles, castles, hallways and castles though there are some nice varied environments interweaving in unexpected places such as a poisonous swamp which is basically this games Blighttown, overall they arent as striking as they could be. This isnt helped by a lot of weapons and armor being recycled. Granted there is some necessity for this, the world wouldnt ever move on that much and you cant really have dark souls without the sword/axe/dagger/spear dichotomy but again when compared to bloodbornes transforming barrel-o-fun tinker toys especially after the release of the old hunters (imo a shining example of how DLC should be done and one that can only be made by expert storytelling in the base game) its a bit lackluster. Having different movesets on similar weapons is nice, I liked that i ended up using a different basic sword because its charged r2 was a thrusting attack with increased range as it shows good design. The weapons system in terms of upgrading is appropriately varied, the magic seems far more balanced (except in PvP but you can't expect them to nerf an otherwise legitimate build so it comes with the territory) and generally the combat system is competent.

However the mobs are some of the most artificially dangerous in the whole series. They have moves of different speeds tied to the same windup animation making it incredibly hard to dodge and for some bizarre reason all enemies get hyperarmor on attacks which powers through yours so unless you fancy trading damage, which you don't have enough estus to do, the only solution is to block or dodge around like a lunatic as enemies can now use flurries of varying lengths (which I like) but this only plays counter to the fact they can't be staggered out of an attack by reading it and reacting first - a dex mainstay. Oddly it works in PvP so no idea what that's all about. This gets especially irritating with enemies who have super amounts of stamina and just spaz out constantly like outriders making fighting them far from pleasurable and one of the few experiences i would ever say is genuinely unfair (alongside the Anor Londo Archers in DS1), particularly when they can kill you in two to three hits, move lightning fast, can't be interrupted but can interrupt you. And they're not bosses, and you have to fight a long way to get to them, and as they're not bosses they dont have points when they stop attacking or have to recover. Generally however the combat is the standard fantasy batman awesomeness where you'll feel rewarded for success and learn from failure and this leads into the bosses.

As always some are a joke, some bounce like a basketball, one in particular is deliberately programmed to punish dodge spamming which is hilarious and really put peoples ability to the test. There are irritating gimmicky ones that just frustrate but as per usual these are what people play the series for, intense pitched battles and a real fist pump feeling of success. As always the bosses are interesting and visually distinct from everything else in the game whilst looking like they ought to be there, though it seriously lacks the lovecraftian horrors like Ludwig the Accursed, Amygdala and the moon presence which brought bloodborne to life, but with the source material they did an excellent job of establishing variation with a couple of exceptions when you have to rely on a certain gimmick to kill a boss, yhorm and the enchanted sword being a particularly stupid example.

All in all the more things change the more they stay the same and whilst I'm happy overall I cannot understand why some of the design choices were made except in aid of a pretense to difficulty claiming DS3, the last in the series, would be the hardest. Artificial difficulty and messing with players learned instincts over four games isn't difficulty. Its Dick-icculty. Its an intentional dick move. These complaints will subside as you play however it has the same addicting three in the morning quality as you'd expect from a dark souls title.

Anyway, the game itself is outstanding, as you would expect and manages to surpass even the bench mark that is Dark Souls 1.

Good - The world and level design are by far the best of any souls game. The levels connect together beautifully but are also pretty large to boot. They are also beautiful to look at and provide an amazing atmosphere somewhere in between souls and Bloodborne. Some of the best level design I have ever seen, putting many other games to shame.

The gameplay, as always, is top notch and very addictive with a large number of playstyles available which makes for hundreds of hours of gameplay and provides huge replayability. The bosses are far superior to Dark Souls 2 and actually mean something again making them even more memorable than Dark Souls 1 or Demon's.

There are also a great number of weapons and armor sets to discover which has always been a part of souls games.

Bad - The character creator isn't great with a few bugs and issues that seemed to have carried over from Bloodborne, thin, Giraffe like necks being one, hopefully it will be patched but Bloodborne never was. The worst thing is having item 'drop rates' - which is nothing more than a lazy way to make items hard to get. Devs can't think of anything better so simply slap a 1% drop rate on something to make it difficult to obtain. It can make trying to get a particular armor set very frustrating and simply is not any fun.

Verdict - An amazing game that is the finest Souls to date and at least equals Bloodborne. This will score a 9 or even a 10 for me with some sizeable dlc. Addictive, creative and atmospheric Dark Souls 3 completely delivers. 8/10.

There are a few trophies that rely on covenant items that require 7+ hours of grinding per item. You could technically get these quicker but it you are relying on people getting invaded and wearing the faction item required to summon you to their game and then kill the invader. Unfortunately grinding is a lot more reliable than the summoning method. I wish From Software provided a better alternative to these covenants because its just not enjoyable and it kept me from getting the platinum by 1 trophy. Traversing castles, towers and various ruins, your journey will test the limits of your pitiable existence as you put down restless souls throughout the kingdom of Lothric in an attempt to "link the fire" and restore the kingdom to some semblance of normalcy.

FROM's latest installment in their Dark Souls franchise attempts to strike out of the mold by incorporating some elements of their recent hit, Bloodborne. While the faster combat will certainly stir some feelings of familiarity for those who have conquered the Lovecraftian action-RPG, there's not much else. No, this title falls squarely in Dark Souls territory: you know it from the minute you see the shield in your off-hand at the character creation screen. Fights are to be approached with caution, as even the humblest of enemies can deliver a swift and punishing death.

While Dark Souls 3 is more defense-oriented, the purposefulness of combat will sharpen your strategic mind. Coming across a pack of enemies, a flurry of thoughts cross your mind: Can any of them use ranged attacks? How fast do they run? What kind of weapons are they wielding? Maybe you pull one out of the pack with an arrow to better your odds, maybe you sneak behind and target the squishiest enemy with a backstab attack. There is certainly some room for variety in your tactics, and the constant fear combined with engagement lends to an entertaining and consistent gameplay experience.

A major pain-point of the Dark Souls series has been, and continues to be, camera performance. Targeting and un-targeting enemies is essential in games like this, and yet on some occasions the camera responds dismally when utilizing the targeting system in closed-quarters. The spinning camera is not only disorienting, it can certainly be the difference between life and death, which of course results in angry gamers and serves to highlight the problem even more.

Even without camera issues, it's no secret that the Dark Souls franchise prides itself on its difficulty. Across gaming forums and in living rooms across the country you'll hear the common response to gamers' complaints about the title: "Git Gud". However, like the flame that flickers within the spirit of our protagonist, the novelty of Dark Souls difficulty is fading. After playing the first two Dark Souls to completion, and thoroughly conquering Bloodborne (platinum trophy GET), many bosses were familiar, and the strategies I had used in the previous months were surprisingly effective. Still, while the boss fights falter in difficulty, the ever-lurking threat of death seeded in the mobs that patrol Lothric force you to remain vigilant.

If there's one element that Dark Souls 3 improved on from previous entries, it would be the world that it casts us into. Aesthetically, it's a major improvement over the last two titles. I often found myself distracted by the landscape, a fatal error in a game like this one, and one I paid the price for on at least two occasions. As for the story itself, it is at its best when you remain unaware of the larger picture. Other titles guide you down their storyline road brick by brick until you arrive at your final destination. Dark Souls prefers that the player approach it as a 1,000 piece puzzle: getting bits and pieces at a time, sometimes out of order, certainly requiring more than one play-through, until it can be appreciated in all its glory. Many players may leave the puzzle unfinished and still be able to walk away satisfied, but for those who persist, the reward is sweet.

In short, Dark Souls 3 delivers just about everything fans of the series have come to expect: punishing difficulty, a vast and mysterious world with untold secrets (many of which you don't know that you don't know), and a long and lonely journey through a dark and shattered world. Any fan of the Dark Souls franchise should be glad to have this in their library.

    Praise the sun!

However, what DS1 vets didn't like to see were the number of bosses. It actually has the least number of bosses in any Soulsborne game to date (DLC plz) with 19.
Combat feels smooth with (in my experience) accurate hitboxes and if I die it's not because of controls or game mechanics, it's cause I suck/screwed up.
PvP is frustrating but will hopefully smoothen out glitches and rebalance weapons (Estoc plz) and if you love invading get used to getting ganked (Google if unsure).

Going from the previous Dark Souls games, you can tell that this game has made many improvements. One of the main improvements, going through the whole series, is having a better user interface. I mean, I really loved the older titles, like Demon’s Souls, but the navigation and menu systems were a bit of a hassle.

Some will say that Dark Souls 3 has been more casualized, but I really don’t believe that’s the case. What’s really been done is that these new game entries are made easier to get into. Originally, predecessors were really hard to get into. Now, that’s not the case, and with the availability of the Internet one can easily search for answers.

There are downsides in this case, present in many of the other titles in the series. For example, sidequests are easily missable and are really difficult to do due to tight, unclear timeframes for doing them. The story is also very unclear. If you want to understand the story, you’ll very likely need to look up resources online and get involved in the community. These are clear decisions that From Software made, and that’s the kind of game it’s supposed to be. It’s not like they did so on accident. There’s a great deal of good lore in the game, but it’s tricky to understand because it’s a narrative told very implicitly.

If you don’t care for the lore, you don’t need to. One can easily jump into this game, even without playing any of the other Souls games without having to understand any of the lore at all. The gameplay is independent of the story. One could be an expert playing it, never getting hit, yet not understand any of the story. That’s fine. But, if you want a cinematic game where the story is explicitly told to you, this game won’t appeal well to your tastes.

The developers and publishers like to advertise the games difficulty. It’s not the case that it’s that difficult. Perhaps it’s just me, but with each entry into the series the games become easier and easier. If you’re not good at action games, it’s alright. With practice, this game is easily beatable. In fact, From Software is smart in their approach.

To complete the main storyline of the game, the bosses aren’t particularly difficult. It’s in the optional content where the bosses get difficult. But to be honest, this game is much more approachable than the old knitty-gritty games. One of my friends compared Demon’s Souls to an NES-like game, but I wouldn’t agree with that because those NES games were what we called “Nintendo-hard”, a much higher echelon of difficulty. This game is honestly fair. Worst comes to worst, one can always grind to gain levels.

I really enjoyed this game for its bosses. Many of the bosses in all Souls games are optional, and it’s where the true challenge lies. Nowadays, other games don’t have bosses. As an old-timer, I liked having bosses in most genres of games. I’m the kind of individual that saves items to use for bosses. Bosses are supposed to be a challenge at the end of the level or stage. Sadly, since many games have become more cinematic, bosses (and even final bosses) are becoming more and more into quick-time events. Seeing a game with so many bosses like this is phenomenal. If you want more challenge, you can always get involved in PvP, player-versus-player, where you’ll face other players of the highest calibre.

This game actually has optional bosses that aren’t re-skinned versions of older bosses! This is a rare sight because game developers typically put all of their resources into the main storyline of the game and put optional areas as recycled content. They know that most people would finish the storyline, but not everyone would finish the optional content.

In Dark Souls 3, this is not the case. You’ve got many optional bosses (and I don’t believe any are missable), each residing in optional areas. They’re detailed like crazy. Souls is the only series where you see this nowadays because it’s a very big risk for game developers to do otherwise. But due to the connotations associated with the Souls series, this is one of the only series that can actually pull it off without locking it behind DLC. As well, there will likely be expansion DLC available for the game later, such as how Scholar of the First Sin was available for Dark Souls 2. This is the only series where I buy DLC because they’re actually full expansions, rather than just one extra level or one extra weapon/armor.

Get this game. I was really impressed by this game and the risks the developers took in creating it. It really is one of the only games of its kind nowadays. This game, like the other Souls games, is very re-playable and is hard to get old due to the amazing gameplay.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Dark Souls 3 is a great send off of the dark souls franchise. It is the hardest game among the Dark Souls game and is the most rewarding. Once again, Miyazaki redefines the genre of this kind of game.

This game is highly recommended for veteran souls fans and the new ones who are looking for something fresh.

    Pros:
    1) Stunning graphics
    2) Fluid combat
    3) Great level designs
    4) Great monster designs
    5) Branching paths
    6) Character creation
    7) Voice acting
    8) Character customization
    9) A huge variety of weapons

    Cons
    1) Camera angle is still bad ever since the first souls games.
    2) MUSIC IS TOO DEAFENING IN BOSS FIGHTS, if the sound volume is in default
    3) Some bosses are just cheap in design. For example, Yhorm the giant can be easily destroyed by the storm sword which can be found on his throne.

This allows people to actually get better at the game, but without merely getting better "weapons and armor" (Ex. Destiny) Game was good length as well. Soundtrack was extremely well produced and adds a lot of intensity to boss fights. Only negative things I found was that a lot of the locations look the same (have the grey pallet) and can get boring. There are a few exceptions, but the majority are boring and dull, due to the same color pallet, which consists of mostly shades. Secondly, NG+ and on gets boring as there is nothing new added to the game except for higher stats on enemies and the same items, but 1+, 2+, 3+, etc. Expand

    Pros:
    - lore is expanded on in a way that adds to the universe while filling in questions from previous games.
    - boss design is great, feeling like a mix between DS1 and Bloodborne. Plenty of memorable and challenging fights, as well as a couple poor ones (looking at you, Cursed Rotted Greatwood). -musical score is phenomenal, rivaling the first game. -the hitboxes are some of the most

-musical score is phenomenal, rivaling the first game.
-the hitboxes are some of the most accurate I've ever seen.

    Cons:
-camera issues are still pretty apparent. These issues still haven't been addressed since the first game.
-3 poison swamp areas. I mean, come on.
-graphics aren't as good as they could be, with Bloodborne looking much sharper.
-doesn't feel fresh and new. Too much of the game feels recycled from previous entries.
-you still have to level up at a hub like in DS2 rather than at bonfires like in DS1. I never understood this decision. It feels tedious.

Overall, this game is definitely worth your time and $60 if you enjoyed Bloodborne and DS1. It's a major improvement from DS2 and seems like it's genuinely trying to build upon what makes the series great.

Yay, Dark Souls 3! I guess? Egh...

I can't help but feel a bit of Dark Souls fatigue here, despite nabbing the game first day and playing the living hell out of the thing, top to bottom just like 1, 2 and Bloodborne. However, the game still isn't quite up to par with Dark Souls or Bloodborne. That may not be fair, considering a whole bunch of things aren't up to par with them, but hear me out.

Combat is more Dark Souls 1 than 2 was, and it feels nice and deliberate and satisfying like the first game. However, the one thing that sets it way behind 1 and even 2 for me is that they both favored Bloodborne's ideal of being faster rather than stronger, which is what I play Bloodborne for, From, and the fact that poise is no longer a thing. And I'm talking to you, "poise is working as intended" people. This ain't my poise. Getting stunlocked by rats while wearing full Havel gear isn't poise, it's stupid and frustrating. But of course, enemies all have normal poise because that's how good game design is done. Though, I favor the longsword and shield build, so I wasn't as affected as I could've been. But still... rats.

Then there's the fact that Dark Souls 3 is point-for-point just Dark Souls. Same areas, same story, and even some bosses are pretty much the same. Dark Souls 2 deviated further from 1 than 3 has. Going through the game, I pretty much always went "oh, look, it's that one item from Dark Souls 1", or "oh, look, it's that one enemy from Dark Souls 1", and, "oh, look, it's that one character from Dark Souls 1", then "oh, look, it's like this one place from Dark Souls 1", and then I get to a place that actually straight up IS from Dark Souls! You're lucky it's the best area in that game and it makes sense in story context, or I would've bashed that bit more.

This review isn't as extensive as my other Souls game reviews because there really isn't much else I can say about it. It's "another Dark Souls", and that's about it. It's still fun, it's still challenging, it's still huge with creative bosses and satisfying combat, but From has done everything they can do at this point. However, I will say that the final boss for this game is probably my favorite, or at least tied for my favorite boss in the entire series for being so amazingly thematic and a well-designed fight.

This game is rated higher than I would've put it for one major reason: it's the last. And it certainly feels that way. The game really does feel like the final one, and I think From worked to make it feel that way. The final boss is truly an amazing sendoff to an amazing series. If you want more Dark Souls, then 3 is certainly worth your time.

    It's a Souls game. That's both it's strength and it's weakness.
It's strength because DkS3 does basically everything better than its predecessors.
It's weakness, because it doesn't really do anything new. Nothing in the game really managed to surprise or amaze me.
It' s still a good game, just not "great" or "amazing".

PvP is generally very spammy with players rarely using heavy attacks since constantly doing light attacks can do mostly the same damage, also some of the best parts of the previous games are missing such as Bonfire Effigies from DS2 and Vagrants and Egg head from DS1. Indeed it feels as though the game is lacking the Dark Souls charm; covenants are uninspired (except for Mound-Makers, arguably the most innovative part of DS3) and the game is the most linear Dark Souls yet.

The 1st DLC was fun albeit short, and some mechanics like rolling are ridiculously broken to the point you can simply strip to your trousers and roll past everything.

In summary; Dark Souls 3 is a good game but a disappointing Dark Souls game.

If Metacritic could represent decimals in their scoring system, my review would show as an 8.5/10. This game really does a lot of things right, and it is probably fair to say that it is the penultimate Dark Souls experience.

Dark Souls 3 succeeds in providing players with the challenging gameplay that Dark Souls fans have come to love. The world of Dark Souls 3 is by far the most immersive and visually impressive world that has come out of the developers of the Souls/Bloodborne games. The cliché praise of graphics (matched only by the cliché claim that graphics don't matter) in this case truly alters the gaming experience. With the winning combination of perfected world design and demanding gameplay, you will not be in want of escapism with this game.

That being said, there are several things holding this game back from a 10/10, or even a 9/10. Among these drawbacks includes the somewhat underwhelming bosses. Some bosses in this game are really underperforming.

Another criticism: with all the new mechanics available to the developers, it would have been nice to see them try something new. To be sure, the Dark Souls series operates on a very successful and gratifying-to-play formula. But it is, undoubtedly, the same formula put on display in all three Dark Souls games. This can bring with it an additional annoyance, considering especially the sometimes cheap deaths that seem to be more of an easy-way-out-design than a genuine challenge.

Nonetheless, at the end of the day this game is definitely one of the more worthwhile experiences that can be found on the new console.

It still has issues as well: PVP is downplayed, game feels much shorter, graphical/technical issues at launch, fair share of bad bosses and enemy concepts still and trying a bit too much to grasp the power that Bloodborne achieved. What I like about the game, are the huge variety of different worlds, different enemies, different equipment and different weapons. Though the best about the game is fighting the bosses. Trying out different weapons and helping other players make the game also enjoyable after the first playthrough. Therefore I give the game a solid 8 although it has also a lot of cons in my opinion: in PVP there is always a visual time delay (despite my high speed internet connection), what means hitting the enemy, while he is right in front of you, won't damage him but hitting into the air before he dodges towards will cause damage. Due to this, I don't like the PVP. And that leads to another disadvantage: No matter if you like PVP or not, there is always a chance that someone invades into your world, except you play offline. I think that sucks. Further con: It seems like there is a big story behind the game and the bosses in the different areas. Though within the game, the story is not really explained, what makes it especially for a newbies hard to understand. I also don't like the fact, that without following a walkthrough, it is impossible to fulfill all questlines, reach all areas and get all items. In my eyes, there should be a fair chance for the players to reach these things without checking the walkthrough. Also it kind of sucks, that with every update, they change statistics, rates, abilities of weapon, armor, spells, etc.. So you can never be sure, that the weapon / spell / armor that you prefer, won't be downgraded tomorrow. My biggest disappointment though, is that the bosses are so cool and still there is no possibility to fight them again (solo) except if you start a new game. Another big con is, that there are physical and magic attacks and you can start with different characters, such as knight, thief, sorcerer, pyromancer, cleric, etc.. Though in PVE, it's much harder to go through the game, if you use magic attacks (i.e. playing as a sorcerer, pyromancer or cleric). The handling is much more complicated, the requirement are high for useful spells and a lot of enemies and bosses are quite resistant against them. Last but not least, I don't like the fact, that many settings just can be done at the firelink shrine (kind of your base camp), as it always takes around 30-45 seconds to load an area. Expand

There a lot of good bosses on the main game (Lothric and Lorain, Soul of Cinder, Abyss Watchers, Oldrich, Nameless King, Pontiff Sulyvahn ) that are really interesting and provide unique and good fight experience. And bosses from DLCs in most cases are great.Only Slave Knight Gael is one the best FromSoft bosses, lore, ost, location of this boss provides perfect experience to the player. Also there’s a Darkeater Midir, the Hardest Boss of DS3 ( for me ), also has very intense fight, good ost, awesome looking arena, and good lore and design of f boss gives a player fair and very hard experience. The same situation Sister Fiede and Father Ariandel has.All this bosses are really good.
Locations of the game are “next-level” comparing with DS2 and ds1, locations are interesting to explore and have well-build level-design.For example of good level-design are Irythill the Boreal Valley - Anor Londo, Great Wall of Lothric, Ringed City, Achedragon Peak are my favorite ones from the game with DLC.
The whole story is hugely connected with Dark Souls 1, and how Aldia Scholar of the first Sin once said that Gwyn made a First Sin linking the fire , and because of that the worlds of Dark Souls started collapsing. And the result of that we can see in the game. And the stories of Lords of Cinder are really interesting especially Lothrics and Lorians.DLCs share one story, and it is as good as games story, the story of Gael and his Ladies Painting that will save every living being from this fading world is awfully interesting and really sad. When you witness last breaths of this world, and these last attempts to save only the people of this world, not the world itself is tearing me apart.
I really like this game, for its lore, gameplay and DLCs but Bloodborne,Sekiro,Elden Ring I consider better ones that this game. But it is still a really good game.

A very good game, but it doesn't come close to Bloodborne or Sekiro. It just isn't innovative enough for being the third game in the series. Still very fun and challenging.

So far I did a ton of NG+(++, ...) runs and the game still is fun.

In a few spots the controlls can get a bit annoying, thats why I have to take one point away from a potential 10/10 and another point for the bugs I had to experience along the way (some of them can be really frustrating, if you bug out of the map and are not able to get your souls back, that you loose on death). But still with 8/10 an outstanding game.

It takes (almost) all of the elements that made the previous installments great, and scales back or removes altogether (most but not all) of the series' weaknesses, resulting in what is unquestionably the overall best Dark Souls experience ever.
Firstly: let's talk about the Level Design. The world interconnectivity of DS1 never came back, alas, and even the constant branching pathways that were still very much present in DS2 have been mostly lost: the progression through the game world of DS3 is more linear than it has ever been. This design choice makes the journey of DS3 feel a little less player-driven than the previous two, but it also comes with two great improvements: firstly, by streamlining the progression FromSoftware had better control over the difficulty curve of the experience, and secondly, the world doesnt really NEED many branching paths since the areas themselves are now IMMENSE: i got lost within DS3 areas way more than I ever did in the previous two entires. Areas are huge, vast playgrounds full of twists and turns, hidden rooms and caves, with a greater focus on vertical exploration. So in the end, although we'll miss the replayability value and feeling of agency that was lost by removing the old, web-like world map progression, the trade-off was necessary to receive these new wide-ranging more open Areas.
A very much still missed feature is the amount of Estus flasks being linked to each specific bonfire, upgradable through use of Humanities in DS1. That mechanic granted players the agency to manage their resources to make each section a little easier, adding a captivating long-term layer of strategy and resource management. By comparison, the Embers raising HP in DS3 IS an interesting feature, but nothing exceptional.
Going over to combat: the fights in DS3 have a much faster pace than previous entries, with your attacks being much quicker and enemies more aggressive and with longer combos. This isnt an improvement or a flaw per se, it is a change that will land differently on each player depending on personal preference, but this new speed of movement makes the roll an excessively powerful option, trivializing some (not that many) fights.
The quality of the enemies themselves returns to the greatness of DS1, especially in regards of bosses. Unlike the lackluster, awkward bosses of DS2 (for the most part) or the mixed bag that was DS1, DS3 offers the overall highest quality array of bosses of the entire trilogy, with non-stop challenging, exciting bossfights that almost always offer something to test the player's reflexes and adaptability in satisfying ways, up until the credits roll. To face these enemies the game offers you, as per usual, a pleasantly rich selection of different weapons, with many different combo attack animations, to suit different playstyles, now with even specific abilities tied to each weapon expanding the replayability factor and personalized nature of the experience. Backstabs have been nerfed excessively, and some balancing issues are still present, but nothing as terrible as Magic in DS1. Another unpleasant return (at this point, sadly, a tradition) is the ability of the enemies' weapons to go through walls and obstacles, whereas the player's cannot.
NPC Questlines have always been a charming and immersive way to give more weight to the player's journey. By witnessing the personal tragedies of some of the wandering personalities that inhabit this land, you learn more of the world and its history, or simply get entertained, moved and surprised through small little moments inbetween your own quest. DS3 is a return to form compared to the scarce and dull NPC Questlines of DS2, with many NPCs to meet and many stories to watch unfold. But unlike DS1, in DS3 the time windows and criterias to meet most of these NPCs are waaay to narrow and strict: as a result, players will miss out on 50% (if not more) of these encounters, and therefore entire Questlines, whereas DS1 was much more forgiving, giving plenty of time to meet most of these characters.
Or, in other words: Dark Souls III is an excellent way to end the franchise. The world map is a lot less interconnected than it used to be back in the DS1 days, sadly, with a more streamlined progression, but the quality of Level Design within Areas themselves is higher than ever, and the more streamlined nature allows for a more precise difficulty curve. Bosses are almost all of extremely high quality, the best collection of the entire series. The more fast-paced combat rhythm gives the adventure a breath of fresh air compared to previous chapters, and it's best balancing of the series thus far (not perfect still). But some of the series' traditional flaws still refuse to die (like enemy strikes going through walls), while some new ones emerge (like an excessively generous roll that rewards roll-spam a little too much)

Dark Souls 3 chooses to focus on a more contained exploration than its predecessors, a much more streamlined map with few branching paths and thus less secret areas and less freedom given to the player on where to go next. This design philosophy allows each new area to be bigger and wide-ranging, but the lack of a tangled web of interconnecting paths like in the past diminishes the sense of freedom granted by exploration, and a slight overabundance of bonfires hurts the sense of tension, ultimately making the journey through Lothric significantly less adventurous than the one through Lordran or Yharnam. Nevertheless, the level design within each area remains of superb quality, as the traditionally multilayered dense map structure is chockfull of treasures and secrets to find and, as previously mentioned, the bigger scope of each area grants more room to explore. The combat system received a clear influence from Bloodborne, as it has a much faster pace now that ultimately ends up making rollspam a little overpowered, but with the usual focus on shielding and weight typical of the Dark Souls, and a magic system now better integrated with the rest of the mechanics. Testing our mettle with these systems, a traditionally excellent, fairly challenging set of enemies and an even better set of bosses. Dark Souls 3 hosts the absolute best, most high-quality array of bosses in the whole Soulsborne series. They frequently display incredibly distinct multiple phases and utilize varied attack patterns that rely on exclusive mechanics or unique playstyles that constantly challenge the player in new exciting ways. Even the worst ones are still highly entertaining thanks to interesting gimmicks that twist the usual formula without compromising on challenge. Narratively, Dark Souls 3 ends the trilogy with a somber, melancholic conclusion that delves deeper into the established concepts of the series, with a main focus on the human drama and tragedies linked to them.

A lot of bosses in demon souls were about outsmarting your foe this is something that has been lost. And I don’t think it would hurt dark souls 3 to experiment once in a while instead of all the bosses being about dodging at the right time. Not that the bosses in ds3 are bad its just that variation helpes. Another problem is that dark souls has a bit of an identity crisis. It has the setting and themes of dark souls with abit of bloodbourne dna. With references to demon souls dark souls and dark souls 2 every thirty minitues or so. Ds3 feels like it tries to be a best of dark souls arcade game. While this may sound good on paper. I think it works against the game and makes it feel like it doesn’t have an identity of its own. The level design of ds1 has not carried over. Some may like this many wont. The aesthetics are very grey. But they are supposed to be this way. Some may like it some may not. I'm not sure what to think about this game. They copy the first Dark Souls boss by making him incredibly difficult. This game is really good, but it suffers some pacing issues with boss difficulty. Some of the bosses are pretty good, whileI'm not sure what to think about this game. That's basically the hardest boss in the game since you can now level up, equip a decent weapon and team up with 2 more players to fight them. This game is really good, but it suffers some pacing issues with boss difficulty. Some of the bosses are pretty good, while others really go down with some simple movement. One thing that's great about this game is the major differences it has with previous games, but that could also be its major downfall. I didn't quite find a dungeon as satisfying as Sen's fortress. There also wasn't a boss as amazing as the wolf in the forest or Smaugh and the other guy. Recycling the same gear game after game is not acceptable. The majority of the armor and weapons are completely recycled. Some of the new ones are really great, but I can't help but notice they don't have many new offerings to the world. Some items are totally ruined by redesign like the ring of sacrifice. Not being able to upgrade armor makes the armor pointless and even with the strongest armor in the game I was getting hit with ridiculous amounts of damage as I progressed. I beat the final boss on the first try but took 5 tries to beat the first. That first boss wasn't very fun to fight either. He also had more interesting phases so it felt like the game ran out of gas. If you played Dark Souls 2 you'll be dissapointed that there isn't a treasure dragon cove like there is with that game. There are many disturbing zombie areas with gross explosions out of bodies and just sickening horror, which wasn't what I was looking for in this. I always liked Mayasaki's art style and surprisingly awesome fantasy world. There are sections where this was done well though, however. The dragons are much better designed and fit with the art style of the world in this than Dark Souls 2. There are some pretty cool areas but it can be almost too city focused and not enough mountains and foresty areas like with the other games. The dungeon here dungeon there gets old and repetitive. The biggest letdown is the covenants are quite boring and don't offer you any real good gear. They nerfed weapons in the middle of the release which made some weapons completely suck right when the patch hit. I'm thinking estoc, but I noticed I couldn't get any real damage out of certain weapons and I couldn't see why they weren't doing much against some bosses even if I had it fully upgraded with 40 strength. So the balanced rule has kind of killed the funfactor of the game and I didn't feel as powerful as I usually do at the end of other Dark Souls games. Utlimately the new engine is great, but the framerates at moments really slow you down but not the boss. Delayed responses in dives and doubling your strike because the game lagged can be frustrating especially when this causes you to die or get hit really hard even though you posted your shield. If you're looking for a significantly better game, better buy a 3ds and stick to Monster Hunter 4. When I dive, my guy dives, when I swing my weapon my weapon swings, no more no less. Thanks Mayasaki, but kind of dissapointed and expected a little more. The "attempts" to fix the game only killed the enjoyment of many items, depth of upgrading gear & the feeling of being powerful at the end, so overall I give this a 7. Thanks for reading Expand

    - Story is too obscure. If there's no or very few info available in the game, you don't bother anymore why you are fighting the next boss or what they're doing there in the first place
    - Exploration needs to be more rewarding. 90% of the items you'll find you'll never use, so why bother in the end?
    - NPCs are too hard to find. The game seems to expect you recheck every nook and cranny of each past area each time you've beaten a boss to find them.
    - Lack of a good music score (also a problem with the previous two DAS games). DES had such great music (opening theme, tower knight, etc).

Darksouls 3 is a good game and would have been 10/10 if it was released 6 years ago. However, releasing in 2016 with this low quality graphic is a huge let down. Dark Souls 3, while having new bosses, new maps, new enemies, does not improve much from Dark Souls 2. It is better to say it is Dark Souls 2 expansion rather than Dark Souls 3.

The game is fun, of course, like every soul

The game is fun, of course, like every soul series you could expect, but that is it. There is not much innovative here. Bloodborne, on the other hand, is better than DarkSouls 3 in every aspect even though it came out earlier, except for multiplayer that DS3 is better but still in the same league as DS2. The difficulty is ok. Most bosses are easy but some are very tough (Nameless king). Soundtrack is clearly inferior to Bloodbonre. The length of the game is great.. NPC side quests are too complicated though. You will not be able to complete most of them without looking on guide in internet. Some maps feel like a maze, which I don't like it. Heavy armors are nerfed a lot in DS3 to the point you don't need to use them. There are a ton of weapons but most of them have same movesets, a bit tweak here and there. The new system, Asen Estus and weapon skill, is introduced here. It is good system though but it does not influence gameplay enough to feel fresh.

In sum, My solid score for DarkSouls 3 is 7/10. It is a good game but has a little improvement over DS2. I hope Fromsoft will overcome this obstacle and make greater game in the future.

    Actually deserves a 7.5, and here's why...

In its current form, Dark Souls III is a relatively buggy, generic and repetitious combination of all the Souls games that came before it, in all the right and wrong ways. To make it more disappointing, it does very little to bring anything new or innovative to the franchise. It is simply, and annually, more of the same. PROS: - Amazing

To make it more disappointing, it does very little to bring anything new or innovative to the franchise. It is simply, and annually, more of the same.

    PROS:

    - Amazing story/lore tied closely to the first Dark Souls game. When fans say this is "the sequel we deserve", they mostly mean it in this way.
    - The music. By far my personal favorite soundtrack in the series, and that includes Bloodborne.
    - The design of the world and the bosses are an improvement over DS2.
    - The option to return to the game after beating the story instead of automatically starting over. DS2 shared the same feature.
    - Introduction of "Ashen Flasks" for your Focus Points (magic)

    CONS:
    - It's very linear, even more than it was in DS2.
    - Glitches. Poor framerate in some spots are understandable, but since when does a Souls game have bugs?
    - Enemy AI is often broken, and their tracking of your movements are all over the place.
    - I can upgrade weapons and shields, but not armor?
    - Not as long or as deep as the other two Dark Souls games, it will take the average Souls vet no more than 40-45 hours to explore everything and beat every boss. In the other two it took around 60-70.

Overall a little disappointed as a fan of the series, but it was still a decent game in general. Perhaps I will bring it up to an 8 after the updates fix all the bugs and any AI issues.

Souls 3 is a solid game if not above average but its definitely not Bloodborne and honestly feels quite stale and slow compared to Bloodborne's fluid gameplay. If your desperate for another souls game then pick it up and you should enjoy but if you are expecting something new and/or on the level of Bloodborne you will be disappointed and left wanting.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After finishing the game and reading the first reviews here on metacritic, I can't help it but to comment on this game by myself. I am very disappointed about how little it needs to satisfy the masses.
Make no mistake: Dark Souls 3 is a solid gaming experience, especially for those who play Souls for the first time. And Dark Souls 3 is a very good game indeed: from the tight controls, to the visual design, mixing up Dark Souls with Bloodborne in both the gameplay and visual aspect, to the (partly) tense, epic and well designed boss fights, which to me count to the finest the series has ever seen. But exactly here is my problem with the game: we've seen it all before! Dark Souls 3 is basically 'SoulsBorne: Fanservice Edition' and literally makes NO changes to the nowadays old-fashioned Souls-formula besides useless weapon arts which are only useful for PvP. Its the 'More of the same'-kind of strategy which was realised here. While newcomers will be overwhelmed by their first Souls entry, people like me are being neglected in many ways by the devs, left out with a game, that tries to be Dark Souls 1 while looking almost exactly like Bloodborne. No joke, the whole structure of the game mimics Dark Souls 1's: Andre? Check! Siegmeyer? Check! Dragon spitting fire on a bridge (like seriously?) Check! Gargoyle scene? Check! Forest? Check! Asylum Demon? Check! Catacombs? Check! Demon Cave? Check! Anor Londo? Check! Black Knights? Check! Skeleton enemies taken directly from DS1? Check! Wheel-Skeletons? Check! Gwyn's Theme? Check! Check! Check! And things which were not taken directly out of Dark Souls have been taken out of Demons Souls, Dark Souls 2 and Bloodborne, like the Firelink-Shrine aka Nexus, townsfolk of Undead Settlement aka Yharnam townsfolk, Dark Souls 3 rats aka Bloodborne rats with Dark Souls 3 skin, Irithyll aka snowy Yharnam, Berserk-dog in Irithyll aka Watchdog of the Old Lords, the Abyss Watchers aka baby of Artorias and Lady Maria, Yhorm The Giant aka Storm King, lots of Levels which look like ripped content from the Bloodborne chalice dungeons, almost every weapon of the game directly from Dark Souls 2.The list goes on and on and on forever... there are even some enemy-assets directly taken out from previous games. The game has new content don't get me wrong, but it is overshadowed by the sheer amount of fanservice. And what's even funnier, is that I can't even blame the developers for that! Because the problem is YOU, the Dark Souls 'elitists' which can't get enough of their 'favorite' game, ruining individual and fresh entries for the Souls series. It's because of YOU, that Miyazaki can't take any more risks and make something new as he did with Bloodborne, because when BB released, all those limited Dark Souls-fanboys immediately began to flame for the dumbest things imaginable like 'not enough weapons' or 'I don't like the gothic style, I want medieval fantasy' - basically saying: 'not like Dark Souls 1 -> not good'. So this is what we get: a game that always brings up the question to the player 'Am I playing Dark Souls 3 or Dark Souls 1?'. Ironically the 'Souls-fans' always laugh about the COD and Assassin's Creed games, because they are not different enough from each other, without realising that they became the same type of community, which will just be satisfied when another dumbed-down Dark Souls 1 clone is coming out. If you love Dark Souls 1 soo much, then go freakin play it, but don't flame on From's games if they tend to be different from Dark Souls 1. Dark Souls 2 suffered from the same kind of harassment, because it was not 'Dark Souls 1' -enough for the 'elitists' and took a different direction. I really can't take it anymore. This seriously has to stop! I really love these games, but the Souls community is one of the worst communities I know. And if you should think that it doesn't matter because every Souls game is basically Demons Souls, you are wrong; there were significant differences between DeS, DS, DS2 and Bloodborne, gameplay-and design-wise. Now we have a hybrid game which is neither Dark Souls 1 nor Bloodborne and hasn't got an own identity. A Souls fan who has played all games literally will find nothing new here. I am not disappointed by the game, because as I sad before it is well crafted with some minor flaws like areas, which leave out the feeling of being unfinished (Irithyll if you look closely) and graphic/sound bugs, I am disappointed with the community, which is satisfied with such little amount of development and new content to a never before-seen level. I am not ok with playing the same game over and over and over again and I want you to think about whether you are.
To end this somehow positively, I have to praise the soundtrack. Some of the tracks are one of the most inspired and beautiful tracks I have ever heard in my life, competing directly with some of the Bloodborne tracks, although it's a step back because they are synthesized and not orchestrated.

    Pre P.S.
The game has references to all things from the past that you may remember - areas and first LoC - to Abbys Walker's DLC, the second LoC to Anor Londo. The Yorm and locations are one of the few throughbacks to DS2. Most of the locations and creatures - also a throughbacks, reincarnations of what we already seen.

From's idea may sound like that - pick location/character from past -> add new area near it (anor londo-irythil)
In fact most of trully NEW stuff will be added in DLCs I believe.

So you may love it or not. There is no right opinion. But here is mine:

This is the list of things, which were bring back from DS1 and which is really ridiculously BAD.

    > Sorcery casts with Staff's middle - the most ridiculous thing from DS1. It gets even more ridiculous with Faron Darts (Imagine Harry Potter or idk Gendalf who casts abilities from his fist while handling stuff...)
    > You can only be invaded by red ingame phantoms while you are Embered. It is fine that we cant be invaded by players, but ingame phantoms bring lore and items with them, and we miss it all, cause, you know, u cant always walk in embered form, and you never know when phantoms should ivade.
    > Poison that deal 3dmg/sec. Poison was useless in Ds1, in Ds2 it was fixed and here we are again, yeah!
    > A lot of actually bad animations. Like backstab with Club. in Ds2 it was far more brutal and fun.
    > Unability to play with shield in right hand and with weapon in left (well you actually can, but it is not good in any ways)
    > Overwhelming amount of fun-service. A 60% of the game - reference to another game.
    > Movesets from DS1 feels even more out-of-date right now.

    Some stuff that just bad:

    > Ordinary enemies sometimes tougher than bosses.
    > Do they bring any new spells of any of magic types?
    > Not of previous problems of souls games are fixed. (your estok with resin is still better than any bosssoul-made weapons)
    > I dont feel involved into the game for biggest part of it. I cant believe in my character or his/her motivation.
    > Quest lines are mostly pure.
    > Also design of characters is quite boring as for me (just like DS1). After Milentia, Shalkuar or Midjets who will remain in the memory, here we have some ordinary men and women mostly without any catchy things nor in characters nor in appearence.
    > Non character with false bottom were found through the game. A lot of old characters whose appearance in the game is not explained.
    > Firekeeper is a character I was sad about mostly. She do nothing. And by saying it I mean it. Herrald was one of the main hero of the game, misterious creature. After this firekeeper feels sad:(
    > Most things made from souls of bosses - rubbish.

    >>

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

It is quite strange to say all of this, cause I was really hyped before game release.
There are some bright moments surely, where you think "wow, thats interesting". Game has some good new ideas too.

    > Animations of Abyss Watchers's sword is awesome, bows now is quite a good thing (finally!:)), locations are nothing new, but level design is really a great thing.
Bosses desing is great and some stories around bosses are too (dancer, vordt, lost son of you-know-who)
    > Final area is the most incredible in whole series.
    > There are some actual drama and a little remarkable moments.
    > The game feels better - faster paced and some general improvements.
    > I do like that now there are far less weapons in the game. Their amount in previous game were a little bit overwhelming. But on the other hand after Bloodborne all this "Mace with lights" feels really boring..or I better say unremarkable. And Movesets from DS1 feels still even more out-of-date right now.

    In comparison to previous games.
DS1 - started all of that, got original plot and new world and story.
DS2 got all that phylosophycal stuff, characters who were changing through the game and all that drama around it. You feel that, you believe in 'em. And music of Madjula..
After that DS3 feels a little pure.

And it is really sad and pity after how Bloodborne was actually great.
One more thing is that...well, dont you get quite tired with all that stuff with references to Ds1? Like they try to forget about ds2, which is quite less popular and make NEWDS2? All this references in every single moment. It should feels awesome, I know. And it is, sometimes(Smouldering lake's Fair Lady) But even Ds2 had like, you know, more blured throwbacks more blured hints. And now we just get same old stuff for the third time, and second game where a half of the game is reference to another game. So by now - Unremarkable. I really hope for DLCs, guys, I really do

No Good! Dark Souls 3 suffers from outdated graphics, lackluster bosses (who feel the same as all the other souls games) and a confusing perhaps non existent story line. Due to the Souls series failure to innovate stuff this feels like a mix of Dark Souls 1 and 2 you would miss nothing by not buying this. The game is too frustrating in mechanics to be enjoyable anyways and rather kind of boring.
