    Ok the game is poor and ripetitive with awful graphics (psx or ps2 style) but I found it funny on his simplicity. So I save it. Give it a chance, it has also an easy platinum :)

    Crypt of the Serpent King is a first-person dungeon crawler where you take control of a hero tasked to navigate through a seven-level dungeon in order to banish the evil Serpent King. You start the adventure with a very weak weapon and low stats that you can upgrade by collecting gold and XP from enemies found on each and every floor of the dungeon. Spending gold in fancy new weapons and XP on raising your stats is the only sense of progression that you’ll get from the game as little else really changes as you progress through the game. Although the very core gameplay is perfectly fine everything else is extremely basic and formulaic.

    As previously mentioned, you go through each of the seven dungeon floors and the way to get to the next is to find a given number of keys in order to fight a boss. The issue here is that despite every floor looking differently from one another they all feel the same in terms of the level design. Corridors and rooms feel exactly the same with a different coat of paint, even the key rooms all follow the exact same pattern of being in a square room guarded by a deadly hazard of some sort that you need to avoid. This not only applies to the level layout but also to the enemies found on each floor. There’s a staggering one, yes, one enemy type per floor and you fight roughly 10-20 enemies as you make your way to the boss room, meaning that this shortcoming becomes a real issue quite fast. The boss themselves are fine, I actually like their designs although I wish you had to apply different strategies in order to take them down instead of fighting them as if they were regular enemies.

    The game as a whole really is very simple, from the gameplay down to the visuals and sound design which are quite serviceable given this is a budget indie game. Taking down the Serpent King should take most players roughly an hour but trophy hunters will spend a bit more in order to obtain the full trophy list which contains a platinum.

    Despite the fact that the game costs about as much as a cup of coffee there isn’t a whole lot to Crypt of the Serpent King. Unless you’re a trophy hunter or insanely curious to see what’s wrong with the game first hand you’re better off saving your money for something else. Yes, this is an incredibly cheap dungeon crawler and it functions correctly but it does the bare minimum to stand out as well. Sadly the solid, yet basic, RPG foundation of Crypt of the Serpent King is nowhere near enough to make it stand out.    … Expand

    Dont buy this crap, my playstation burned after completing 1 stage and when i read that i cannot buy next weapon in demo. I commited suicide. Thank you.

    It feels like a tech demo for a company that is pitching the idea to bring the classic days of FPS Dungeon Crawlers back. It is hollow and devoid of everything that makes a game competent, but at the same time lays it all out before you. It might be a hot take,    It looks ugly, it lacks polish, and it lacks any driving force other than it will only take you just over an hour to complete.

    It feels like a tech demo for a company that is pitching the idea to bring the classic days of FPS Dungeon Crawlers back.

    It is hollow and devoid of everything that makes a game competent, but at the same time lays it all out before you.

    It might be a hot take, but it's better than Elder Scrolls: Blades. There is no microtransactions, no dialog that leads you to the same quest and same dungeon. Because, do we really need an explanation of why we are doing the same thing over and over? Only to be told to spend money?

    Unfortunately, like I said above, the game is devoid of anything that makes this a game. The dungeons are all the same, with slight changes to one level (level 2), and just re-textured walls that while randomly generated, are the same walls, halls, and rooms as the levels before.

    Easier difficulties have you picking up more gold than you need. By level 6 I had everything unlocked. The xp is given out quite freely and will have you max your character out by level 6, leaving you to beat up the creatures in each level for absolutely no reason.

    Each level offers a new enemy type, and hopefully, most likely, you will not grow attached to seeing a specific enemy type as they only appear in the levels you are currently on. Even the last level only has you facing off against one enemy type.

    Combat is simple, trigger the enemy animation, move back, move forward and attack. Rinse and repeat and you've got combat down. The addition of a crossbow and bow is almost useless, at least on lower levels. There is absolutely no reason you need to use those, especially after you learn the dance that us combat.

    Graphically this game isn't the worst, but the animations are laughable at best. The animation of the walking with your weapon is janky and stops and starts with a hard cut. It is something I noticed, laughed at, and couldn't stop noticing.

    Like I said earlier, this game felt more like a tech demo of a "hey boss, me and the guys worked on this for a minute, I think we got things down nicely, I think the FPS Dungeon Crawling genre could come back. Look forward to hearing back from you".

    On sale or free it is worth it. I paid $1.50 (CAD) and got exactly what I expected. Just don't expect much and you won't be disappointed.    … Expand

    there’s a cool skelon and epic snak and awesome sword but the spiders scared me :(

    Un très bon jeu, assez simple et amusant dans son gameplay mais un peu répétitif.

    There is no respect from the developer in this game. Not for the genres, nor for the time that the game asks of its players. There is no greater insult that an artist can direct at their audience.
