This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

    Pros:
    - Control's world is intriguing and really makes you want to read every collectible you come across. While the main story itself may not be groundbreaking, you always want to learn more about the FBC and their history
    - The Oldest House is an incredible setting that oozes style and diverse environments
    - Gameplay feels nice and tight and the abilities Jesse (the protagonist) has give it a great sense of verticallity. By the end you are essentially playing as Jean Grey with guns.
    - The universe it shares with Alan Wake seems very promising
    - Quite visually impressive... when it isn't glitching out.
    - The game's use of architecture and colors combined with it's supernatural setting provide for some of the best levels I've played this year
    - While not all of the characters are as memorable as they should be, Dr. Casper Darling makes up for all of them and has turned into one of my all time favorite fictional characters ever
    - The game has a well structured trophy list

    Cons:
    - Bugs, bugs, bugs and more bugs. Control runs very poorly at times on a PS4 slim, with FPS drops that are as bad as 5-10 fps. This usually happens when **** is going down and tends to take you out of the game. Constant texture pop-ins are also a problem.
    - Control has a serious difficulty problem. Jesse usually dies in about 3-4 hits which is very punishing considering how many tough enemies you usually end up facing at once. The devs have added an invincibility mode you can use which is nice if you get very frustrated but it doesn't compensate a poorly made difficulty system.

Overall Control is a glitch-filled masterpiece which could have been a 10/10 if it was well optimized and had an ending that was a tiny bit better. However it's still a must-play and serves as an amazing origin for the Remedy-verse. It gets an 8/10

One of the most mesmerizing games I've ever played. This game felt like a high quality HBO tv show, with the story telling, cinematography, and music. The gameplay is both fun and challenging, and everything just screams quality.

I fell in love with minimalist level design , metal musics and also fantastic gameplay. One of most unique games I ever played on ps4. But some fps drops was annoying but there is not huge on ps4pro. Control was in bad luck to release in same year as sekiro. If it released one year later surely win the goty.

At least i got the game on sale for $30, just sad that i don’t think I will finish it :( after you die (which happens alot) you have to go through the same area & kill the same enemies over & over! You'll probably die once or twice each big fight, but then you learn and improve and feel great. All the way past the Ashtray Maze (a masterpiece), I really liked the game. Unfortunately, that game ends all to soon. And a new, horrible game takes its place.

The curtain drops and suddenly you're playing a very bad Dark Souls. The difficulty scales in the most infuriating ways for every side quest and the end of the main quest. Long load times and long runs back make for gameplay loops of just dying over and over to have a slim chance at the perfection needed to succeed. When you do win a fight, it's usually because you found a cheesy spot where the AI is too dumb to engage and you just fling auto-aimed bricks. Otherwise, it's nonstop homing attacks and enemy design that couldn't be worse or lazier if it tried.

The Jukebox is an embarrassment to good game design. The weapon upgrades and customization feels so poorly balanced that there's often a "correct" option. Although, even that can be hard to tell because this game loves to punish you for trying anything new at this point. You'll be dead before you know what did or didn't work.

Add in bugs, crashes, and performance issues on the PS4 and your nightmare is complete. One loading screen after another. If you enjoy that amount of grind and masochism, then I hope you enjoy Control. Otherwise, play something with competent balance that respects your time.

Control is completely & utterly unlike anything I have ever played before, yes I've played 3rd person action/adventure games & yes I've played some thrillers. I played this on a PS4 Pro on a 1080p television but it's stylistic art design makes it a joy to marvel at on any device & yes it had a few issues where it would momentarily freeze and stutter after pausing & sometimes textures would take a while to load upon first boot up. But I can look over these moments, as they weren't all that frequent.

    My 2 down points are:

Save points, considering that the gameplay was very challenging I was surprised when I was sometimes then forced way, way back to a checkpoint from 30 minutes ago.. yes it only respawns a small amount of enemies but still, I feel that checkpoints may have been a good option.. however, I do appreciate that the 'souls-like' formula does present an appropriate challenge.

my other issue is small & shouldnt really be mentioned in a review.. but the game is beautiful, as I've mentioned earlier its stylistic art style makes you constantly tap that share button for a screenshot.. but the Photo Mode is something to be desired, it's there and has very basic features but after playing games like Uncharted, horizon Zero Dawn, Spider-man etc. it's hard to go back to such a basic photo mode.

Overall I'd say if you're looking for a game like no other & like exploration, this is a very perfect match for you.

    - Dr. Hartmann boss (3rd fight) ist he most annoying and badly designed boss I have ever seen. Extremely unfun, unfair and stupid. I have played Dark Souls, Nioh and Sekiro, but this was the first boss where I had to turn on the cheat mode
    - Combat is a little bit repetetive
    - Story makes no sense, but maybe this is intended
    - Annoying difficulty spikes that make you wanna rage quit. When you die, you have to clear all the enemy waves again, and this can take some time
    - Devs wanted game to be Dark Souls, but it doesnt feel right for this type of game. Too hard
    - Quest markers are not precise enough, you have to search areas like an idiot
    - There are some stupid quests like an Arcade mode or an Expedition which are boring and uncreative
    - Spawning mobs during boss fights
    - Regenerating bosses
    - Mobs respawn if you leave and room and return immediately

Including the DLCs and nearly all missions, I needed 84 hours (I am a slow player).

After playing through the game and obtaining the platinum trophy last night, I can say that Control s a good game, yet a flawed game that could have been better.
    Pros:
Solid story with solid characters, mysterious plot that keeps you playing, incredible lore, fun core gameplay and great sound design. Great soundtrack.
    Cons:
Terrible checkpoint system that has you spawn at the latest control point you accessed whenever you die, which means you have to spend time waiting for the loading screen AND traversing back to the place you were at. This can be really frustrating.
The game punishing you for dying by taking away 10% of your source. This only adds insult to the injury that is the checkpoint system.
A combination of a bad health system and random difficulty spikes. Several enemies in the game as well as bosses in side mission have cheap attacks that do a ton of damage. You will find yourself getting killed with just 2 or 3 hits a lot. I have health 6 unlocked along with 2 personal mods that increase my health and even still enemies can melt your health if you **** up just once. The blue orbs from killed enemies hardly give you back any health and I think that being able to carry consumables to restore your health would have been great.
Shielded enemies can be frustrating to fight at times because their shield regenerate quickly.
The game's mini-map can be awkward and difficult to use at times and you find yourself getting lost frequently. Jukebox expeditions are pointless since you can get prime & absolute mods by just playing the game.
Occasional frame rate drops that last 2-4 seconds on both the base PS4 and the PS4 Pro (especially the base PS4) during intense fights. The game also stutters briefly every time after it autosaves.

It's a good thing I waited for a price drop after I saw DigitalFoundry's video on the poor performance on consoles. Had I bought it at launch and payed $60 for it, I would have given it a 5 or 6 out of 10 because there's no way that I would consider massive performance issues on launch acceptable. The game in it's current state is relatively stable. All in all, and 7/10 game.

The plot is interesting, because it is not explained at the beginning, and this is the only thing that saves it from being a straight-forward typical plot, which it eventually becomes. Inside an interesting setting, but the plot is something that we've seen 100 times already. Story in Quantum Break was better and much more ambitious.
There is no much change in the scenery, and for a game of this length I would expect something more than just inside of the building and astral plane, and that's it.

I don’t want to use the word masterpiece lightly, but what else do you call the combination of gleefully chaotic gameplay with earnest storytelling in a setting as refreshingly unique as Bioshock? What else do you call a combat system that goes so far beyond the simple act of shooting a gun without drilling down into a set of intricate menus and complicated controls? What else do you call darkly malevolent horror that doesn’t feel like it was cribbed from someplace else? What else do you call the crowning achievement of a studio with a unique voice, an uneven track record, and 25 years of experience? If there’s a better word to describe what Remedy has achieved with Control, I can’t think of it.
