The atmosphere it creates, the beautiful story-telling that keeps you wanting to know more, and the sadness it brings when the story is over... hats off to remedy for making a true masterpiece. This is the only game I have played that has made me actually want to platinum it, and definately the only AAA title that has kept me playing more than 30 minutes. With the way AAA titles have been heading recently it is truly satisfying to play somethig different and so unique that it took my breath away. 10/10 remedy! Expand

Any single player game that does not have a diffitculty settings for the player in this day and age is a no no for me. I'm a firm believer in individualism and choice and treating us all the same with no diffficulty options and especially since this is a single player game with no multiplayer aspect is so wrong.

This game is a TOTAL garbage. It is very GENERIC, the control is VERY bad, very hard to move, and the animations looks like the game HYDROPHOBIA PROPHECY.

Such a mess. The storyline wrecked by the devs, confusing AF and huge problems with the narrative details. At least the gameplay was funny but not innovate at all, Psi-ops made it more than ten years ago.

way to combat oriantated, seems like a great story, but it is way to hard and time consuming and gets quite repetative, (go here kill that go there kill them), to be worth the effort. could of been great, but its not. .

This game really disappointed me because it had the potential to be a very fun experience but is held back by level design, mission structure and technical issues.

The combat is probably the best part about the game, the superpowers all feel great to use, and although the gunplay is not amazing this doesn't detract from the experience. The enemies and levels are very repetitive though

The combat is probably the best part about the game, the superpowers all feel great to use, and although the gunplay is not amazing this doesn't detract from the experience. The enemies and levels are very repetitive though which makes dragging through the game's 10 or so missions very tedious.

The areas all look very uninspiring, and laid out in such a way that you will spend a lot of time simply trying to figure out where to go. There is a map but this is more or less useless since areas often sprawl vertically across many floors which the map seems to completely ignore.

The mission structure is also very bland, with practically every mission consisting of going from point A to B to C while fighting enemies along the way. More frustratingly, one type of side mission (bureau alerts) is given to the player seemingly at random, assigned a time limit and often requires the player to stop whatever they are doing and track back to the location the side mission requires. Much of my 15-20 hours with the game was spent simply traversing the same areas over and over again (often getting lost), fighting the same enemies which always respawn even in areas you have already cleared.

The abilities and mods all play it very safe and do not deviate from the core gameplay in any interesting ways. The story is certainly there and expanded through collectibles that are easily found throughout the world, but it failed to captivate me enough to compensate for the rest of the unenjoyable experience.

On a PS4 slim the game runs at 30fps, with a little input lag (not massively noticeable though), looks unimpressive at all times and often drops to 10fps or lower when too much is happening on screen. Nothing about the look or scope of the game warrants such poor performance, so this is very disappointing for a game in 2019.

Overall, this game has some very fun powers which would not feel out of place in an inFamous game (perhaps even better than the last inFamous entry). However, virtually everything else about this game lets it down, and the powers alone are not enough to make it a fun experience.

It truly is a shame that the game's marketing campaign was so bland, it made a lot of people miss a hidden gem.
Solid gameplay mechanics with fun supernatural powers to wield, clever metroidvania-style level structure, good plot (wouldn't expect less from Sam Lake) and the absolutely outstanding palpable atmosphere of mystery and fleshed-out lore set this game apart from any competitor. I

I don't want to dwell into plot details here to avoid spoilers, but trust me, this is a game best to be experienced going in blind. If you're a fan of sci-fi and mystery genres, don't miss it out. Also, I've seen people saying it's a 10-hour game, which is misleading, as with all the side quests (mostly as high-quality as the main plot) it leans towards 25-30.
That's not to say the game doesn't have its fair share of problems. Firstly, even after the update there are mild performance issues on base PS4, with a consistent noticeable 2-3-second frame drop occurring every time you exit the pause menu. Secondly, the in-game map is confusing and often wouldn't load. Lastly, I found the ending to be somewhat underwhelming and straightforward, compared to the complexity and intrigue of the plot that preceded it.
Still, after beating the main storyline and being 3 trophies away from platinum which I fully intent to get, I consider Control to be the best game of 2019 so far.

This game is absolutely amazing! One of the best Jedi games ever made. Just the destruction alone is hours of fun. Not to mention how crazy the story is along with the well spoken dialog, tons of hidden backstory you can find littered all throughout the game. And did I mention you're basically a Jedi with a gun? Hands down my game of 2019. 10/10!

Excellent game. As many have noted, the clear standouts are the art direction, writing, world building, characters, and visuals. Framing its horror elements with a cold, bureaucratic scrutiny was a brilliant move that often lends itself to outright hilarity. If the setting, story, and style appeal to your personal tastes, you will have a blast with this. As far as the gameplay goes, the different powers are all satisfying to use, and the physics tech and destructible environments are simply superb. The combat mechanics are solid, but outside of some excellent side missions and combat encounters in the late game, Control suffers from one of the problems I had with Alan Wake — namely, it doesn’t always match the inventiveness of its combat mechanics with equally interesting combat scenarios. That being said, with the promise of upcoming free endgame content and future DLC, I’m hoping they will continue to rectify that issue.

As far as performance goes, I’ve been playing on the PS4 Pro — and while performance was admittedly rough at launch, the most recent patch has been a massive improvement, solving my biggest qualm with the game.

All in all, if you’re a fan of story-driven action games, I would highly recommend Control. This has supplanted Alan Wake as my favorite Remedy game, and even with some minor frustrations, I have loved every second spent with this game.

The game seems to be broken. I was looking half an hour for getting an elevator to work. After giving up and trying again a few hours later, I realized that the elevator was not activated because an enemy did not spawn.

Control is a 12 hour long 3rd person sci-fi shooter set in a bit of an open world... or I should say building… more specifically the FBC’s paranormal headquarters...it all connects in an addictive metroidvania style… of more doors and areas becoming accessible as you complete story and optional missions. Here you play as Jesse Faden, who sets out to find out what happened to her brother in this facility... and would you know... you have some super natural gifts of your own…
The gameplay loop is the same from start to finish, you’re given a task... and area in the building to explore, and along your way you’ll sometimes feel an urge to venture of and explore, which can lead to you finding materials, or even optional missions that will help you become more powerful, give you more upgrade points, or even additional abilities, but you’ll do just fine sticking to the main story as well, increasingly making the gameplay here more addictive and crazy, throwing items, dashing, levitating, just to name a few.. Taking on enemies that can do almost the same... you’ll have to clear these enemies most of the time to unlock spawn points, which is also where you spend the enemy dropped currency and materials on upgrading your character, becoming more powerful… the combat though Is my biggest gripe with control… This game had the potential of being a really amazing game, in fact its won multiple game of the year titles for 2019, but the little issues with combat and performance is what sours control most for me… For starters... performance wise, the game stutters like crazy any time you pause and unpause the game.. and secondly in a Game so crazy and hectic at all times, it’s really hard to have a sense of enemy direction, a lot of the time... especially towards the end with more powerful enemies, you’ll just be hit and dead with no warning, you’ll get smacked with heat seeking missiles, shot in the back.. And you have no opportunity to fairly dodge or counter attack, which bring me to my next announce... dodging being tied to your super natural energy… this just becomes annoying… due to the nature of the game, dodging is a mechanic I feel should be a given to the player.. Not a drainer... you’ll be in fights, again unfairly getting smacked with these heat seeking missiles out of nowhere,, that you’ll need to quickly dash to health enemies drop all the way across the room, but good luck if you’ve been range attacking with your toss power, and you most likely will thanks to again the dash ability draining your energy. It makes you not want to use it, and when you need to use it, again it’s because of need to quickly move in the area because of a grenade or to grab health, but once again the vicious circle smacks you of you can’t because you’ve been range attacking with your throw ability, you see? This is an endless circle of one mechanic decision breaking all of the other mechanics, not making the game as fun as it could be, or bringing your gameplay vision to life... this game wants you moving around, throwing, dashing, shooting, hitting enemies with a nice forearm strike… but this one small decision forces ranged combat, and the games vision again just crumbles in front of you… that’s not to say control isn’t still fun, it’s a blast, it’s one more try addictive and challenging… despite its flaws I loved Control from start to finish… but control 2… I’m just saying... Focus on the balance of the crazy fun mechanics, give more opportunity to dodge seemingly unfair and over powered attacks and enemies… and this series has potential to be masterpiece level... where it stands now... Control is still a great game definitely worth your time...
    I give Control
    an 8/10

The writing, direction, and performances are consistently brilliant. This is Remedy at the peak of its game. Control feels like a company rediscovering itself, waking from a long slumber. Remedy’s legs work as intended once more, the vestiges of sleep paralysis a distant memory.

I don’t want to use the word masterpiece lightly, but what else do you call the combination of gleefully chaotic gameplay with earnest storytelling in a setting as refreshingly unique as Bioshock? What else do you call a combat system that goes so far beyond the simple act of shooting a gun without drilling down into a set of intricate menus and complicated controls? What else do you call darkly malevolent horror that doesn’t feel like it was cribbed from someplace else? What else do you call the crowning achievement of a studio with a unique voice, an uneven track record, and 25 years of experience? If there’s a better word to describe what Remedy has achieved with Control, I can’t think of it.
