this has all the makings of a great game, decent pricing and should keep anyone entertained for a long time. has a few slight bugs / lag issues at present but considering its just out and the amount of server issues other games have had on launch i think its went amazingly well so far!

just wish there was a wee tutorial to explain somethings in game or extra info on icons / tabs

Wonderful game. Open World sandbox MMORPG done right: has a huge variety of areas, buildings, quests, equipment, weapons, milestones, pets, NPCs and more. I guess at first, only with the desert area, it must have felt just like another clunky and limited sandbox mmo - but the devs kept adding upgrades after upgrades and the game grew to be a fantastic one.

Overall, it is an excellent game, no question!

    Pros
    - Amazing landscape with breathtaking views
    - Graphics and animations are top notch
    - Good combat (weighty, powerful, satisfying)
    - Extremely good crafting and building system. Super complex, hundreds of materials and objects
    - Very good music
    - Climbing is super fun, you can climb everything
    - Horse riding is excellent

    Cons
    - Some smaller bugs, i.e. elephants walking in the sky, things like that
    - Fast Travel is only one-way (therefore, build map rooms)
    - The grind (default settings) is on the border of insanity. But it is possible. I did it.
    - For endgame, you need very special armor against heat AND cold which is hard to get (get the Redeemed Silent Legion, please)
    - No map available in dungeons
    - If you die in Dungeons that have locked doors, you have no chance to recover your stuff because you are naked
    - „The Purge“ is a stupid mechanic which lets waves of enemies destroy your base and materials for which you grinded hundeds of hours Turn it off!

Easily one of the best games I've ever played, certainly from the perspective of immersion. I disappear into this world for extended periods and completely lose track of time. I disappear into this world for extended periods and completely lose track of time. I honestly haven't had this experience with a game for a very, very long time, despite sinking a fair amount of time into PS4 games such as Last of us, God of war, Doom 2016 etc, and a lot of time into Diablo III and CS:GO on PC. Admittedly I am particularly fond of sandbox experiences in general, which definitely wouldn't be for some people.

I am playing this offline as I'm not that interested in PvP or having to worry about having my base destroyed given that I spend so much of my in game time building it; something that I have fallen in love with :) Overall the building experience is intuitive, quite nuanced and flexible enough to allow you to create almost anything you can dream up. Complimenting the building system nicely, the Thrall system works quite well as a mechanic, and adds a lot of life and form to the game but does need some more love from the devs imo to really shine.

NPCs are genuinely challenging, and the world is a real $#*! to survive in, leading to a nice balance between adventuring and building, crafting and upskilling. It's really nice to go out on a challenging mission and then come and spend a few hours at base just crafting, building, adding placeables, and getting ready for the next adventure.

The other really big upside for me is that the game looks gorgeous with beautiful (occasionally breathtaking) environments, weather systems, equipment, building components an so on.

There are definitely some things I would love to see the developers add and improve though, despite not being essential:

    1. Giving more life to thralls... The ability to have them roam around (perhaps on a day / night schedule), sit down to eat, congregate, get drunk etc. The base is so integral to the experience of the game that making it seem more authentic from that perspective will go a long way. Being able to interact with them, change outfits for working Thralls etc would all be welcome

    2. Better menu systems for moving through items on crafting stations... Perhaps some listed filters rather than toggle filtering, as it can be hard to interact with on PS4

    3. Caravans as an extension to the exciting new mounts system, allowing us to move a decent chunk of gear across map, allowing us to explore further and more deeply without having to build new bases

    4. Jewels, artefacts, money, and with all that the ability to purchase from or trade with NPCs... More of a focus on treasure type items and mechanics would bring this game dangerously close to feeling like a Diablo RPG

    5. Boats, fishing and agriculture for survival... A real system that takes time and allows us to build a bigger community base

Thank you Funcom for this amazing game!

If anything, I must say this game is not what I expected. Or more accurately, I didn't really know what to expect.

Going in blind perhaps was for the best. From the moment you begin you have no idea what to do or where to go. But what is clear is one thing: Survive. and boy does it drill that in quickly with a savage landscape that is all to quickly eager to devour you whole.

But once you get the basics down, and you aim at surviving and exploring, the game kicks into gear. The stronger you get, the better stuff you can build, and the better stuff helps make you a stronger. And so the cycle continues.

Visually the game is stunning. Landscapes are gorgeous and the character models are some of the best I have seen in a realtime open world environment.

Sound is also great. Music knows when to be soft, when to be loud. Always setting a great atmosphere which I lost myself in time and time again.

Combat is fun, and there is such a large variety of enemies that you rarely feel bored in that regard.

Gameplay though, I got to say the closest game I can compare this to is Minecraft. Just Minecraft for adults. Not a bad thing, but the base building and survival element is so in your face it makes you feel like that that's all there is at times.

While the Conan universe has got extensive lore, this game barely has a narrative. Your goal at the beginning is the same as it is at the end: Escape. Little else happens that is not connected to that goal in some way.

    Overall:
Conan Exiles is far better than I had expected it to be and I enjoyed it immensely. But the monotony of resource harvesting and lack of a deeper story, did make the game feel a bit hollow at times. None the less, I still thought it was great and really do hope they keep extending the game.

    Note to Developers:
    - Hats off in regards to not being squeamish to nudity. It is nice to see that a game that is intended for adult to play also has content that adults would expect. It's not done tastelessly and fits the world.
    - It would be nice that you could have more than one active character at a time. Limiting it to 1 play through at a time did make it a bit limiting for solo players.

The dungeons are pretty cool to explore too. All in all, upon release the game is significantly better than I thought it would be from my initial EA impressions over a year ago. Solid survival game, one of the best releases in recent history as well. Give it a try!

Of course this world has much more to explore, but can't change the terrain as much, because most of tye world is fixed, like in reality.
The PS4 controls are a bit quirky and I needed some time to get used to it, but since it's an PC port and they are still working on it with a relativly small team compared to mighty Bungie, I can wait for the interface to get better. The fights are very much like in Dark Souls. You can die easily, if your timing is off. This is not for button smashers. This is a game for people who enjoy the virtual brutallity of bloody fights and enslavement. (It's for you Trump! ;)
The PS4 servers work fine and despite some lag sometimes and quirks it plays good so far. Sadly when people leave the server forever, their buildings evaporate, but their Thralls aka slaves are hanging in the air still doing their thing. So yeah, there is still work to do for Funcom.
The whole canibalism thing is gross, but that's what bad guys do? They eat others for breakfest. I always get rid of those canibals and get rid of their disgusting body parts too.
This game isn't for the faint of heart and I guess a MP game with friends will be the killer! Literally.
All in all 30€ well spent. Compared to the last Destiny 2 DLC this game truly is a game and not just grind for weapons you don't need in the end. In Conans world, you grind to acomplishe a task that feels real aka CONQUER A WORLD!

After learning the puzzling menu system, it still feels like the game has been ported straight from PC to console, without too much thought.
But the meat of it, gameplay is decent enough, levelling fair, battle-mechanics simple but good.
Scenery and settings look promising, so that you actually want to keep exploring further on.
One flaw might be, that I’ve been experiencing some major lagging (will revisit this review in few days if it occurs more often).

I just completed a wonderful two-story house where I was planned to place a workshop, but suddenly came two dozen soldiers who killed my hero. The Hyborian wilds are teeming with savage encampments and gruesome monsters to explore and slaughter. If you can avoid the corruption that might send you mad and enslave enough thralls to batter your way through the cities of skeletons then one day you might become the mighty conqueror of the entire server. It’s not easy but one thing I can definitely say for Conan Exiles is that despite the gameplay and graphics being quite run of the mill it really is quite addictive.

It has all the basics of survival games, and the advantage of a handcrafted map, instead of a randomly generated one. You have bosses and dungeons and always something to be working your way towards. For my taste, the resources are way too far apart, but I must confess these kind of games aren't really my cup of tea. Yet I cannot deny I'm having fun.
I just regret buying it for PS4. The radial menu is a bad choice that leads to mistakes, and everything is twice as hard as doing it with a mouse + keyboard. I realize that's just a limitation of consoles, but there could be more improvements made for simple QoL tasks, like navigating the menus looking for something. I probably will play it for a while until I feel I got my money's worth, but that nagging feeling of playing on a subpar control scheme always returns whenever I have to do anything.

    There. You've been warned.

First of all I m kind of new to survival games. I ve been looking into some in the past, but it didnt hook me up too much. This time around I ve been looking for something appealing on PS4 to try my luck again on this genre and quite luckily I nearly exactly matched with the release of Conan Exiles which has been in BETA before.

You start as male/female barbarian amidst the desert. Customization on the character is nice, religions dont tend to be a deal breaker. In some countries you also get full nudity options, for whom that counts, there you have it. You wake up broke and naked wandering around to start gathering food, water and stuff to build your very first tools. The game gives you some sort of a journey line which carries you through your personal development although the game explains not much at all. Theres no tutorial, theres no hand holding. In the first hour I was killed numerous times up until I learned my way.

Once you get a grip the game is very rewarding. You learn to make leather armors, get better swords or pikes or bows. Where you gathered at first now stands your home and a fireplace. Tons of hours later you wander north to go for more vital resources, killing elephants, raiding tribes and exploring vast deserts, high mountains and precious forests. The graphics are very nice to me although the color palette could use more variety. Fighting is klunky at times but even with frame drops I got myself through most of it with only a few rages.

When it comes to technicality we hit a critical spot here. The PS4 port is kind of nice but the controls are sometimes really klunky and sometimes more complex then they should be. Building houses is kind of neat then enraging because of clipping or placing issues you can just not prevent or get around.

After putting in tens of hours into this game going full solo survival on standard mode server I still get going. I m getting surprised by hard hitting sandstorms, I go stealth killing at night, I wrestle naked with crocodiles and got myself a nice trip throughout all the continents of Conan Exiles.

    Is this game worth buying?:
This game has heavy performance as well as controller issues on PS4 Pro. If this is something that easily bothers you then dont buy it at all. Maybe wait a bit for some fixes and go for a sale deal. If you seek out a well made atmospheric survival game that gives you the thrill through your very personal development on your own with a nice variety of weapons, enemies, buildings and well designed continents that will eat up hours of your life like nothing then I d say you should give it a try. And it is also quite satisfying when going on your own.

Still in regards to bugs, klunkiness and performance I can only rate it at 5-7 although the fun factor is an easy 10 to me and I hope that Funcom will be able to polish it a bit more over time.

Theres just too much going on here under the hood, not enarly as much as a game like ark.. but I stil found it all to be overwhelming..
I felt leveling up and earning points to dump into my stats and unlock new items to craft was frequent enough to keep the game feeling rewarding as id play
but the crafting menus and recourses needed to craft certain items just felt like too much work to me..
itsn ot like a Minecraft where things are as simple as knowing you need a certain material, go to a biodome on rare occasions where a certain material is found, farm a little until you get what you need and come back..
m,aterials for tools weapons and gear beyonds the basic are too spread out
    theres just too much…
too much in variety of things to collect.. and too much space between them all
im a huge believer in less is more, andi just don’t have the capacity at this stage in my life to keep track of hundreds of different materials… on top of that if youre not playing offline and on easy mode, youre going to die way quick.. I feel like the game almost discourages advanced recourse gathing in that way…
gathering food of any consequence is needlessly complicated as well.. it isn’t as simple as killing an animal and looting its body.. creating a fire and cooking it… you need tools to collect the meat after the kill.. its just not my thing
and again needlessly complicated for how harsh the environment can be on higher difficulties
I want to feel like I can at any moment decide to start a new camp somewhere and not that I have to take my things back to base
and the way the game over complicates things like hunting, I just couldn’t do that here
So the way I chose to play this game was going the more explorer route..
living off of plants, I just wanted to battle the terrains and its inhabitents with the simplest items I could craft that didn’t feel like a math equation…
and I had a decent amount of fun doing this…
laying down a bed as I felt I made progress so I would respawn there if I would die.. and just keep the simplest materials on me at all times to be able to fend for myself if I ran into any hostiles..
which this world is full of..
    from giant spiders to people..
    enemies are everywhere…
I actually really loved the combat mechanics in this game, theyre very third person action witcher dark suls style of attacking blocking and dodging, I most of the time felt like If I took damage in a fight it was my fault..
however not all of the time..
this game definitely suffers from performance issues.. especially during battle..
the game will lag a bit, frames will drop and youll be taking damage from seemingly nothing
enemies can also spawn ontop of you out of nowhere..
its makes for a nice scare.. but it also makes for some frustrating moments when your character instrantly dies from a giant spider spawning ontop of them and now that giant spider is guaring y our dead corpse with all of your materials on it.
I also found it pretty annoying that after killing enemies you oculdnt take their weapons or gear..
whats the point of righting them then?
The combat system doesn’t feel risk reward.. it feels just there for survival which quickly brought down the enjoyment and excitement of exploring for me…
Conan Exiles is a decent survival game..
if things were simpler it would even be a good one…
but they aren’t so it isn’t..
this is a game though that i don’t think anyone that isn’t really into survival games would enjoy..
    I give Conan Exiles
    a 6/10

i was never expecting to say it but conan exiles is not so bad after all. it is a well made game , it has a decent single player mode and in general is way better that ark survival evolved for me , although it has some flaws too , it is still much more interesting . i really like the way you start from nothing and step by step you grow bigger , i can say it feels rewarding at the end .i was never expecting to say it but conan exiles is not so bad after all. it is a well made game , it has a decent single player mode and in general is way better that ark survival evolved for me , although it has some flaws too , it is still much more interesting . i really like the way you start from nothing and step by step you grow bigger , i can say it feels rewarding at the end . what i dont like about the game are ofc the graphics which are really poor , some lags time to time , bad sound effects and thats all . In any case it is an okay game for a small studio such as this , also it has a reduced price so i find quite a good option especially for anyone who likes games which are all about survival . Expand

Ultimately Conan Exiles is a slow paced game with no quick pay offs. It provides a sense of wonder with its locations and the things that populate them. There is danger in the persistent online world which adds to the need to log on often to keep an eye on things. If you are not prepared to put the hours in, this is a title that is better left alone.

Conan Exiles is one of the most disappointing games I have played this generation. I have not experienced another game on PlayStation 4 as broken as Exiles. It is hard to believe that a game could be released for purchase in such bad condition. In another genre, the bugs in Exiles might be fun or amusing. In a survival game, they are crippling. Gamers deserve, and should demand, better.

A survival game that embraces adventure. [Issue#201, p.88]
