You start the game choosing your mode, you can play pvp, pve, or offline single player and co op.. you then creat your character, all wuth their unique race that gives them an advantage in game as well as a religion.. and youre rescued by your boy conan from your cross with a promise yall are gonna meet again.
So you set off into this world to simply survive.
This is a survival game, and one that I found to actually feel unique.
The survival aspects of this game can be described by saying it’s a simple mess..
this is all about recourse gathering and then combinging recourses to create new items…
and I love how easy it is to find simple food like bugs and materials..
your basic survival needs are extremely accessable and its up to you to take those basics and explore the lands, leveling up and working your way towards better items..
You can choose to play this game like a mincearft where youre creating shelter and use it as a base, going out to gather items and come back…
This is made easy thanks to this game not being some procedurally generated garbage…
this is a beautifully hand crafted map with secrets caves, caverns, and bosses to encounter..
reminding me a bit of skyrim at times..
a survival based skyrim game.. sounds great doesn’t it?
    on paper yes..
But again this game is just a mess..
Theres just too much going on here under the hood, not enarly as much as a game like ark.. but I stil found it all to be overwhelming..
I felt leveling up and earning points to dump into my stats and unlock new items to craft was frequent enough to keep the game feeling rewarding as id play
but the crafting menus and recourses needed to craft certain items just felt like too much work to me..
itsn ot like a Minecraft where things are as simple as knowing you need a certain material, go to a biodome on rare occasions where a certain material is found, farm a little until you get what you need and come back..
m,aterials for tools weapons and gear beyonds the basic are too spread out
    theres just too much…
too much in variety of things to collect.. and too much space between them all
im a huge believer in less is more, andi just don’t have the capacity at this stage in my life to keep track of hundreds of different materials… on top of that if youre not playing offline and on easy mode, youre going to die way quick.. I feel like the game almost discourages advanced recourse gathing in that way…
gathering food of any consequence is needlessly complicated as well.. it isn’t as simple as killing an animal and looting its body.. creating a fire and cooking it… you need tools to collect the meat after the kill.. its just not my thing
and again needlessly complicated for how harsh the environment can be on higher difficulties
I want to feel like I can at any moment decide to start a new camp somewhere and not that I have to take my things back to base
and the way the game over complicates things like hunting, I just couldn’t do that here
So the way I chose to play this game was going the more explorer route..
living off of plants, I just wanted to battle the terrains and its inhabitents with the simplest items I could craft that didn’t feel like a math equation…
and I had a decent amount of fun doing this…
laying down a bed as I felt I made progress so I would respawn there if I would die.. and just keep the simplest materials on me at all times to be able to fend for myself if I ran into any hostiles..
which this world is full of..
    from giant spiders to people..
    enemies are everywhere…
I actually really loved the combat mechanics in this game, theyre very third person action witcher dark suls style of attacking blocking and dodging, I most of the time felt like If I took damage in a fight it was my fault..
however not all of the time..
this game definitely suffers from performance issues.. especially during battle..
the game will lag a bit, frames will drop and youll be taking damage from seemingly nothing
enemies can also spawn ontop of you out of nowhere..
its makes for a nice scare.. but it also makes for some frustrating moments when your character instrantly dies from a giant spider spawning ontop of them and now that giant spider is guaring y our dead corpse with all of your materials on it.
I also found it pretty annoying that after killing enemies you oculdnt take their weapons or gear..
whats the point of righting them then?
The combat system doesn’t feel risk reward.. it feels just there for survival which quickly brought down the enjoyment and excitement of exploring for me…
Conan Exiles is a decent survival game..
if things were simpler it would even be a good one…
but they aren’t so it isn’t..
this is a game though that i don’t think anyone that isn’t really into survival games would enjoy..
    I give Conan Exiles
    a 6/10

    Summary: Buy it on PC.
I saw how Funcom went from creating a terrible mess to improving it where it's actually a fun game. Sure, there're bugs, on this age of day 1 patches, the launch was surprisingly smooth.

It has all the basics of survival games, and the advantage of a handcrafted map, instead of a randomly generated one. You have bosses and dungeons and always something to be working your way towards. For my taste, the resources are way too far apart, but I must confess these kind of games aren't really my cup of tea. Yet I cannot deny I'm having fun.
I just regret buying it for PS4. The radial menu is a bad choice that leads to mistakes, and everything is twice as hard as doing it with a mouse + keyboard. I realize that's just a limitation of consoles, but there could be more improvements made for simple QoL tasks, like navigating the menus looking for something. I probably will play it for a while until I feel I got my money's worth, but that nagging feeling of playing on a subpar control scheme always returns whenever I have to do anything.

    There. You've been warned.

First of all I m kind of new to survival games. I ve been looking into some in the past, but it didnt hook me up too much. This time around I ve been looking for something appealing on PS4 to try my luck again on this genre and quite luckily I nearly exactly matched with the release of Conan Exiles which has been in BETA before.

You start as male/female barbarian amidst the desert. Customization on the character is nice, religions dont tend to be a deal breaker. In some countries you also get full nudity options, for whom that counts, there you have it. You wake up broke and naked wandering around to start gathering food, water and stuff to build your very first tools. The game gives you some sort of a journey line which carries you through your personal development although the game explains not much at all. Theres no tutorial, theres no hand holding. In the first hour I was killed numerous times up until I learned my way.

Once you get a grip the game is very rewarding. You learn to make leather armors, get better swords or pikes or bows. Where you gathered at first now stands your home and a fireplace. Tons of hours later you wander north to go for more vital resources, killing elephants, raiding tribes and exploring vast deserts, high mountains and precious forests. The graphics are very nice to me although the color palette could use more variety. Fighting is klunky at times but even with frame drops I got myself through most of it with only a few rages.

When it comes to technicality we hit a critical spot here. The PS4 port is kind of nice but the controls are sometimes really klunky and sometimes more complex then they should be. Building houses is kind of neat then enraging because of clipping or placing issues you can just not prevent or get around.

After putting in tens of hours into this game going full solo survival on standard mode server I still get going. I m getting surprised by hard hitting sandstorms, I go stealth killing at night, I wrestle naked with crocodiles and got myself a nice trip throughout all the continents of Conan Exiles.

    Is this game worth buying?:
This game has heavy performance as well as controller issues on PS4 Pro. If this is something that easily bothers you then dont buy it at all. Maybe wait a bit for some fixes and go for a sale deal. If you seek out a well made atmospheric survival game that gives you the thrill through your very personal development on your own with a nice variety of weapons, enemies, buildings and well designed continents that will eat up hours of your life like nothing then I d say you should give it a try. And it is also quite satisfying when going on your own.

Still in regards to bugs, klunkiness and performance I can only rate it at 5-7 although the fun factor is an easy 10 to me and I hope that Funcom will be able to polish it a bit more over time.

For me this was a "5" affair. It had engaging and grind worthy game play that kept me occupied, and interested, but failed to maintain the passion that was seen in the intro's cinematic sequence. Even more disappointing was the fact that one of the game's key selling points, the partial nudity, was censored on console making the sales pitch misleading. The added fact that the option to toggle on/off partial nudity is still available in-game further proves it was the publishers/developer's choice to censor the game's more maturely inviting feature. It could have been so much better. Expand

It's okay, but the bugs are really terrible. Server crashes are normal and the games' performance is bad. I like survival games, but this one is too boring for me.

I downloaded Conan Exiles as part of the PS Plus giveaway this month. I was not expecting a survival game like 7 Days to Die. I was, however, expecting a better budget and more production value as opposed to a new defunct port (as is the case with 7DtD). Combat is horrible. Want to sneak up on enemies by a campfire? No Way! They must have sensors set up around the perimeter. Want to blockI downloaded Conan Exiles as part of the PS Plus giveaway this month. I was not expecting a survival game like 7 Days to Die. In any case it is an okay game for a small studio such as this , also it has a reduced price so i find quite a good option especially for anyone who likes games which are all about survival . Expand

The Hyborian wilds are teeming with savage encampments and gruesome monsters to explore and slaughter. If you can avoid the corruption that might send you mad and enslave enough thralls to batter your way through the cities of skeletons then one day you might become the mighty conqueror of the entire server. It’s not easy but one thing I can definitely say for Conan Exiles is that despite the gameplay and graphics being quite run of the mill it really is quite addictive.

Conan Exiles is a savage survival game set in the lands of high adventure. You'll need grit, determination and a stable internet connection to make the most of it but if survival games are your kind of thing then Conan Exiles won't disappoint.

I loved the first few hours - surviving in a harsh desert, learning to build, discovering weirdo creatures to fight. But combat quickly becomes stale, there isn't much of a story to speak of, and building materials vary in color and design but not really functionality. So after I had built a decent home and seen a quarter of the map, I didn't feel at all compelled to keep going.

Oh and it's worth mentioning that the UI and crafting systems are pretty difficult to manage, and the learning curve is steep.

In my opinion, if you're looking for something like this, Ark is a much better use of your money. Ark doesn't have much of a story either, but the dinosaur and crafting variety in that game gives you much more to look forward to, and much more reason to carry on.

The game gives you the opportunity to play among a bunch of players and the game is not ugly to look at. This game gave me the experience of playing on a survival server with a bunch of strangers who could decided at any moment to cut me down for no reason.

Conan Exiles offers a decent survival experience with its vast open world and crafting mechanics. The inclusion of the Conan the Barbarian theme adds some excitement, but the game falls short in terms of overall depth and polish. While it can be enjoyable for fans of the genre, it lacks innovation and fails to truly stand out among other survival titles.

Ultimately Conan Exiles is a slow paced game with no quick pay offs. It provides a sense of wonder with its locations and the things that populate them. There is danger in the persistent online world which adds to the need to log on often to keep an eye on things. If you are not prepared to put the hours in, this is a title that is better left alone.

Conan Exiles is one of the most disappointing games I have played this generation. I have not experienced another game on PlayStation 4 as broken as Exiles. It is hard to believe that a game could be released for purchase in such bad condition. In another genre, the bugs in Exiles might be fun or amusing. In a survival game, they are crippling. Gamers deserve, and should demand, better.
