    The script is a politicized fantasy of developers, similar to Nazi propaganda. The Russians are shown as some kind of maniacs, their army - as a bunch of war criminals. In fact, all the characters are good, all the Russians are bad. With no exceptions. St. Petersburg is shown as some sort of garbage dump, old buildings and rotten cars - no traffic, no pedestrians, nothing ...     The only thing that is good in this game is multiplayer. Other things are very poor: stupid npcs, boring gameplay, past gen graphics, disgusting singleplayer story.
    I am not very good at politics but even for me "evil russians" look like cheap propaganda in this game.
    I am disappointed :/

It's so low to do such a story line, but understandable. When You lose everywhere where it's possible, the only one place left to be heros and winners - is in the game.

    I read from a poster this game is called Claymore duty modern campfare LOL. People camp more and more by the day. I just spent a whole team death match being spawn trapped at the same spawn that never flipped while the opposing team just rained down all kill streaks on us. WTF

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Had it not been for "grey morality" and "realism" marketing gimmicks, if IW said they make a classic COD plot full of cheesy BS set in a B-movie reality... That didn't happen and now many are spitting from what they got versus the promise.
    It's a COD 4 prequel with a classic crazy BS campaign: there's Kastovia (Donetsk Republic), Urzikstan (generalized Mideastern state retconned to be unnamed country of COD 4), Georgia, Russia and they’re all connected. A baddie Russian general Barkov that has lead a 20 year long Russian occupation of Urzikstan makes his own chemical weapon gas (!) in Georgia (!) and smuggles it to Kastovia, then to Urzikstan to use on civvies. CIA/MARSOC operators raid a Kastovian facility to confirm it but gas gets stolen presumably by baddie Urzikstan terror org Al-Qatala (COD way of spelling Al-Qaeda) but actually turns out to be a baddie splinter group of Urzikstan Liberation Force goodie rebels. Let’s fast forward to Urzikstan where a CIA operative wearing a plate carrier vest disguises himself with a black headscarf (!), openly walks around baddie Russian soldiers who search for rebels (!) and gets away with it (!).
    Enough with synopsis, you get how moronic the plot is from realism POV – same as old CODs, hence B-movie reality, not really your Zero Dark Thirty. It has always been this way to drop the jaw of generic Billy from Oregon and present a clear political message: wars are gritty but necessary and cool, there are baddies and goodies (sometimes goodies are not so goody but then baddies are even worse), NATO troops are generally world’s top goodies and they are almighty because they can pull off almost public black ops like a cakewalk in say Russia (MW shows firefight in Saint Petersburg’s major street because that’s how CIA/SAS operate), BTW you should enlist ASAP if you can.
    There are indeed some hints of "grey morality": that baddie splinter group of ULF goodies that stole the gas to use against its enemies – the baddie Russians/Al-Qatala. Or when NATO operatives do some minor morally questionable things like torturing an enemy for intel, pointing guns at his family to untie his tongue & etc. This kind of "grey morality" isn’t anything new to the series, I remember intel torture back in MW2 as well as other examples. Who is mostly exempt from "grey morality" are the Russians: they exploit, torture, burn, gas, hang and murder Urzikstani civvies for 20 years and we get aplenty exposition to witness it. "Mostly" because there are a few minor characters that are Russian but are goodies, the remaining vast majority are your literal SS Nazis. Plus it's implied several times that the baddie general Barkov is an acting member of the Russian military, though they "disown" him after his death, it’s clear they never did anything to stop him and this "disowning" business (to proclaim him a rogue general?) is obviously a PR damage control move from Moscow. Newsflash: Moscow is a baddie baddie, as most members of the "Nazi" Russian military.
    You don’t even get a trope about some soldiers not sharing the sketchy ideology of their command and showing signs of humanity – like "Nazi" pilot Franz Stigler who spared a wounded B-17 and escorted it to safety, or Cpt. Silas Soule and Lt. Joseph Cramer from First Colorado Cavalry who told their units to hold fire when ordered to shoot Indians during Indian Wars. That would have been *REAL* grey morality, as well as showing that NATO goodies do occasionally commit major cruel atrocities or use a falsely engineered casus belli to start a war. It’s kind of twisted to pretend that things like Haditha massacre or Abu-Ghraib torture didn’t happen by the hands of US in a country invaded after 9/11 without UNSC bill based on a fake chemical weapons sample tube "obtained there". Chemical weapons that were never found, but that ill-founded invasion with all its atrocities helped to spawn ISIS and consolidate many Muslims against everything "western". That generic Billy from Oregon may not know/remember/care for these facts, but I and many others genuinely upset by MW’s deceitful artistic representation of reality do – and the fact that IW markets it as something opposite contributes to the offense.
    If you have played MW, you know my attribution of "goodie" and "baddie" to MW factions is spot on – but in case with *REAL* grey morality that can’t happen per definition. The Expanse is a perfect example of proper grey morality: try to distinguish goodie and baddie factions there. Or Spec Ops: The Line which handles the premise of moral ambiguity like a boss: a feat that means even more if you compare its budget to MW's.
    And fake gun names, seriously? Bobby Kotick didn't spare few $K to license proper names as in the original trilogy? You get a lot of strong womyn though: CIA chief, army general, rebel leader. I’m surprised Cpt. Price isn’t Cpt. Rebecca Price wearing an LGBT patch because she/they/xe is openly lesbian.    … Expand

    Это цитата между двумя ключевыми игровыми персонажами, которую они воспроизводят в своем диалоге сразу после того, как перебили добрую сотню российских солдат на авиабазе, расположенной в одной ближневосточной стране. Удивительно, но именно эта фраза передает всю игровую суть новой части этой серии игр. Разработчики обещали внедрить серую мораль в игру, мол, никто не будет ни однозначно добрым, ни однозначно плохим... НО как всегда есть это самое большое но, которым эта концепция уничтожается полностью. Да, нам показывают терракты, то есть однозначно предосудительные действия отдельных боевых группировок и тут же нам показывают как перед моральной дилеммой оказываются солдаты "Ее Величества" и лично капитан Прайс. В другом моменте нам показывают как русские солдаты, называемые здесь люди Баркова вешают, расстреливают, насилуют даже эксплуатируют население ближневосточной страны и потом через пару миссий показывают как "борцы за независимость" этой самой страны применяют газ, украденный естественно у русских, чтобы защитить остатки своего сопротивления от наступления тех же русских. Не заметили пока ничего, чтобы серое сделали однозначно контрастным черным? Тогда вот вам вишенка на торте русофобии и предрассудков. Миссия, которая ужаснее миссии в аэропорту из старых версий игры - это миссия, где русские солдаты просто для развлечения под предлогом "поиска содействующих террористам граждан" приехали в мирный город и давай направо налево расстреливать мирных жителей, особенно детей, травить их газом, взрывать гранатами, убивать белых, пардон, зеленых касок, которые мирным помогают... А потом еще вдобавок от лица маленькой девочки нам показывают как здоровенный накаченный русский мужик в тельнике буквально разрывает отца ребенка, а потом гоняет ее по всему дому автоматными очередями... Словом, серая мораль-то она может и серая, но в сочетании белого и черного, разработчики и авторы сюжетной линии черным окрасили однозначно русских солдат, которые безумствуют в разы ужаснее чем террористы и становятся фоном, на котором любые плохие поступки персонажей западных стран - это только "вынужденные меры", а убивать "плохих" это вообще не предосудительно и даже поощряется... Словом, лично я, после всего увиденного пришел к выводу, что все-таки опыт выпуска игр серии без сюжетных компаний - это лучшее что может с ней произойти. Потому что мало того, что сюжет новой игры вышел откровенной русофобский до омерзения, русские здесь разве что младенцев не пожирают, так и еще более плоский и посредственный, чем был в свои лучшие годы.     This is a horrible call of duty. The gameplay style is built towards camping and getting sniped around every corner. This game is catered to players that used to be called “noobs” for their camping. Except now everyone camps and makes the old style of playing with an adrenaline exciting fast paced game obsolete.

    Call of duty has always been a series in which I wouldn't buy until I saw the reviews because I new there would be some sort of micro transaction **** but this year i was more then excited I bought it on the day of release and have not been disappointed. The only thing i am disappointed about is the ratings the people mad yes i understand about how the Russians have been overused and everything but its a video game stop getting butt hurt about things that aren't really a problem if you have a problem with it then DON'T PLAY THE GAME its a video game its supposed to be fun and so far that is the only problems problem the best 60 bucks ever spent… Expand

    The game seems amazing when it comes to mechanics, animations and systems. But the plot ruined it for me, I am not a Russian myself, but even I can obviously see how it is meant as anti-Russian. Perhaps the company needs to be more neutral politically and make actually 'fictional' stories instead of pitting good guys against bad guys which in this case is Americans against Russians. 'Highway of Death' is one of many examples about how the game twists the real history and makes it Russia's fault, disgusting. In the previous games, it was different but this is just taken to extreme level. I am an old player of COD, and I actually had hope in the COD's future when I learned about this new game. But now they totally lost my interest. I haven't bought any COD for many years due to how ridiculous their recent games have become and now I am gonna not look at COD anymore.

    You could have tried a plot of aliens taking over the soldiers and there are civil wars all over the world etc, you could have had invented a story where you play in Middle East, and you fight Americans as well as Russians. So much potential to make a good story. But nah, they won't do that. So many companies that used to make good games now make usually **** games. Go keep copying Battleroyal or WW2 from Battlefield, yeah, COD sucks now    … Expand

    "Погані російські", "хороші американці", все як в оригінальній трилогії MW, тільки ще гірше. Якщо карикатурні бійці Макарова виглядали якимись кумедними, та й взагалі загальний темп оповіді не претендував на щось серйозне, то в цій частині все зовсім інакше.
    У новій Modern Warfare російські показані якимись звірами, які влаштовують публічні страти, вбивають жінок і дітей і т.д. і т.п. Все це виглядає натуралістично, але це не забавно. Це лякає. Це виглядає як пряма демонстрація російських. Противно на таке дивитися.
    В якихось моментах гра намагається бути схожою на Homefront. Наприклад, в обох іграх є сцена, де героєві належить ховатися серед трупів. В обох іграх показано те, як "ворожа сторона" вкрай жорстоко поводиться з цивільними і т.д. В обох іграх чорнуха пре навіть там, звідки ти її не чекаєш.
    Ось тільки Homefront був жахливою грою, з поламаною механікою стрільби, похмурим геймплеєм і т.д. Деякі такі, технічні проблеми спостерігаються і в новій CoD, але сподіваюся, розробники їх виправлять.
    Homefront обернувся закриттям студії-розробника і банкрутством компанії-видавця. Кажуть, історія циклічна. Ну що ж, залишається сподівається, що це не так.
    Я люблю гри Infinity Ward. Мені подобалося грати і в першу Call of Duty, і в трилогію Modern Warfare, але навіть Ghosts не викликав такого ж сильного відторгнення як ця гра.
    Не потрібно було брехати. Не потрібно було демонтувати. Не потрібно було вставляти в свою гру чорнуху.    … Expand

    Everything is upside down. Call of Duty has a better solo campaign than multiplayer after many years. We will remember a perfectly scripted war with a dense atmosphere, but we’ll forget about the unbalanced online multiplayer. [Issue#298]

    After a multiplayer-centric episode, the COD fans will be delight with the return of a nervous and strong solo campaign. Modern Warfare is back with old-fashioned gameplay that is more grounded and efficient. The generous amount of content adds some depth to one of the best chapters of the saga to date. Magic!

    Overall Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a good title that is marred by the expectations that the Modern Warfare name brings with it. The campaign has some really stellar gameplay moments that are brought down by the mediocre plot. Multiplayer was fun but felt a bit like the competition’s output (despite there being no Battlefield release this year) which may be a turn off for some. I don’t think Modern Warfare 2019 has done anything to make me rethink waiting for substantial price drops to play Call of Duty campaigns, because clearly multiplayer is still Activision’s main focus and that’s just not where I get my kicks.
