    One, two, three... no, this is the fifteenth Call of Duty. And for the first time in a title of this franchise, there isn't single-player campaign. Maybe because the Black Ops 3 campaign fell it was a disappointment compared to the Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2, or even World at War. Or Treyarch focused too much on the multiplayer component that ran out of time for more. Regardless of theOne, two, three... no, this is the fifteenth Call of Duty. And for the first time in a title of this franchise, there isn't single-player campaign. Maybe because the Black Ops 3 campaign fell it was a disappointment compared to the Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2, or even World at War. Or Treyarch focused too much on the multiplayer component that ran out of time for more. Regardless of the reason, Black Ops 4 has no single-player component, but in contrast, the biggest focus on multiplayer is made to feel positively throughout the game.

    Starting with the main novelty, Blackout is Black Ops 4's Battle Royale mode. For those unfamiliar with this, it's a way that puts 95 players against each other on a massive map filled with well-known locations in the series. The player may choose to play in teams of four, of two or else test their ability on solo. Depending on certain factors, it may be difficult to find players at the beginning due to the size of the map, but fortunately the safety zones will make encounters with opponents players more frequent. If we want to have more characters in Blackout, we have to complete the requirements of each character. Despite the amount of frustration due to my failures and my lack of luck, I confess that this Blackout was a pleasant surprise and is undoubtedly a good Battle Royale mode.

    Although it doesn't have a single-player campaign, the game provides us with Substories about Specialists and these events take place between Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 3. It isn't really a substitute for a real campaign, but it serves to pause the competitive aspect. And speaking of a competitive aspect, before embarking on the multiplayer of Black Ops 4, it is necessary to choose the specialist class. The game presents a total of 10 classes, namely Ruin, Prophet, Battery, Seraph, Nomad, Firebreaker, Recon, Ajax, Torque and Crash, these four last ones being a debut. As for modes, Control, Heist, Free For All, Kill Confirmed are present for example.

    The multiplayer has undergone some changes to encourage players to do teamwork, to be more tactical and to reduce the number of rambo users. And one of those changes was to remove the heath regeneration. To recover life, we must use the gear item Stim Shot. In other words, healing is now a manual rather than an automatic action, which adds to this tactical factor, in that it is necessary to choose between risking another confrontation or withdrawing tactics to regain life. Also note that the double jumps, long slips, walk the walls and other unnecessary things that were in Black Ops 3 were removed. The Black Ops 4 clashes all take place on the ground and everything runs smoothly, fast and more balanced. However, spawns need tweaking on some maps.

    No surprises, the Zombies co-op mode is back, now bigger than ever. This way, despite having some familiar aspects, which even a positive point, also suffered some changes. For example, the GobbleGums have been replaced by Elixirs. The four perks (Quick Revive, Stamin-Up, Eletric Burst and Mule Kick) are still present, but some new ones have been added, such as Timeslip, Death Perception, Dying Wish and Stone Cold Stronghold. In addition, we can customize the perks or statues of the Voyage of Despair map to the perks we want. And we have Special Weapons and talismans that can be used during our battles.

    In Zombies, the player can choose Classic mode or Rush mode. In this last mode, there is a Mystery Box in all the spawns spots, we can get perks or open the Mystery Box without spending a single point. Now, certain sites can only be accessed once a wave of enemies has been completed. And right now, during some wave of enemies, we have to be inside the safety zone and endure.

    As for maps are available the Voyage of Despair, IX and the Blood of the Dead. Voyage of Despair takes us on a boat inspired by the Titanic, while the IX is staging an ancient area of Rome. Finally, Blood of the Dead takes us back to the Alcatraz Prison and as you may be thinking, this is a remake of the Black Ops 2's DLC Uprising Mob of the Dead map. Scarlett Rhodes, Bruno Delacroix, Diego Becalli and Stanton Shaw are among the characters we will use in Voyage of Despair and IX, while Blood of the Dead is represented by Edward Richtofen, Tank Dempsey Takeo Masaki and Nikolai Belinski.

    Don't think it's just killing enemies in this Zombies mode. There are several challenges for the player to complete, such as obtaining certain rare weapons or finding easter eggs on a specific map. Overall, Treyarch has made some changes to this Zombie mode, but without drastically changing what fans like so much in this mode. In short, even without a traditional single-player campaign, Treyarch has produced one of the best Call of Duty since the original Black Ops.    … Expand

    Disregard pretty much every 0 or 1/10 review that you see. In pretty much every review at 0 or 1 that I see, there is a common theme among them that shouldn't be. "Battle Royal is a ripoff of _____" or "There is no campaign!!!". To those people I say, sorry you didn't research the game prior to buying.     Now onto my personal review of the game. It's great! I feel like Call of Duty is finally (getting) back to its roots. Sure it is still based in the future a bit but not like other COD games we have seen. No more exo-skeleton, no more wall running, no more flying or double jumping. We are finally back to boots on the ground action and grit.

    Again, we are (getting) back to what the COD franchise used to be and it feels so good! Multiplayer is solid and so far I haven't had any issues.

    If you are looking for a Call of Duty that brings you back home and makes you feel good about the game again, pick this one up. I have owned practically every one of them up to this one and can finally say that this game is getting back to its roots as it should.

    Again, don't like Battle Royal and want a campaign? Don't buy the game, simple as that. But leaving a review for a game that you did no research on and then purchased and hated, I have no sympathy for you.    … Expand

    look COD is what COD is, if your looking for arcadey shooting with a solid player base, a decent leveling hook, and rounds you can play in under 10 min, then this is great. i'll admit i have yet to play the BR mode, but from any review that was not written by an angry basement dwelling troll, they've done a fine job with it.     I just want to point out that after reading through the low score reviews, most of you are angry at the fact that there wasn't a story/campaign. I don't know about you guys but i have not played a call of duty campaign since modern warfare 3. If you bought a $60 call of duty game in the past just for its campaign then you "screwed" yourself over. Yes black ops has an overly expensive price tag but it has lots to offer through multiplayer, zombies, and blackout. I was a little hesitant at first to buy BO4 because i was not on the battle royale bandwagon (did not like building in fortnite and am old school multiplayer). After i tried multiplayer and blackout i knew I would enjoy the game more then i thought i would. I agree that it was lazy to remake old maps and count it in as the release day maps for multiplayer but the 4 maps they chose to remake had me reminiscing about past black ops games. Zombies has had my attention since the first black ops and i have only ever played black ops zombies since they are the most creative and intense zombies experience. black ops 4 zombies exceeded my expectations and they proved that they put a lot of work into the new story and gameplay. Zombies is much more customizable this time around. Difficulty settings along with other things make it so a beginner can pick up and play and not worry about being "bad" zombies player. Multiplayer is fluid and offers one of the best online shooter experiences at this time. Not once was i kicked out of a lobby or disconnected from a game, which has happened in past call of duty releases. The thing i like about the black ops franchise is that they really listen to the community. A lot of people (including myself) did not like the jetpack boosts going on in BO3 which is why BO4 stuck to boots on the ground. I also am convinced BO4 will be supported for the next 2-3 years just like BO3 was and that is a good feeling to have on a game you spent $60 on. Finally Blackout...I was very nervous about Call of Duty treading into the battle royale scene. I cant say this enough that black ops was for sure the one to pull it off. Not only did they get the battle royale formula correct but they did in a way that was fun easy to learn while keeping true to black ops gameplay. I gave the game a 8/10 for using old maps as fillers for multiplayer and that splitscreen was a disappointment since it condenses the screen and you have to squint to even see an enemy when playing on the same screen with a friend. Overall the call of duty era that included campaigns/stories are over because of the new generation of gamers today. everything is online and fast paced now which is what call of duty is adapting too. Black ops 4 offers a little bit for everyone and to those not buying a game for the lack of a campaign are missing out on a fantastic first person shooter experience.… Expand

    Call of Duty Black Ops 4 has exceeded my expectations this time, smooth gameplay with good game mechanics, i am getting 60+ fps on Gtx 970, It's a must buy game. and as a Battle Royal Enthusiast i must say this is the best BR game i have ever played till date.

    Blackout is the best BR imagine PUBG but polished and more fun. Multiplayer is fun and none of the specialists feels op. Zombies is okay there is just too much stuff on the screen.

    First let me start by saying all the user negative reviews have three things in common. They all complain about no story or campaign. Call of Duty hasn't ever been known for the campaign and they really have never been good for that fact, at least since MW2. Look at Rainbow Six Siege and tell me you need a campaign for a good game. They are just worried that because this game doesn't have a solo campaign that it will push other devs to stray away from them. Lastly the monetization after the 60 dollar price tag. Which I practically agree with, we don't need loot boxes or any MTX in a 60 dollar game. Let the free games or cheaper games do that. Although this is where all games are at now. Single player games like Assassins Creed odyssey literally have pay-to-not-pay MTX, Boosters and just straight buying equipment. So I will treat all games the same now based on MTX.

    Now Call of Duty Black ops 4 as it stands is a very content fulled experience. Multiple different modes are set in place to compensate for the lack of campaign. 3 zombie maps, an entire BR mode and all the multiplayer versus modes. Anyone that says they don't have a lot of content in this mode is blatantly lying or misinformed because they haven't actually played the game. Blackout BR mode is practically a stand alone game that i would hands down pay 30 dollars for. A very fast paced and polished mode. Im not going to go in depth of on the modes but try just giving you the facts. Now the Multiplayer mode has two new modes and all the classic modes. You might say two isn't a lot but the other modes are great and fix something if its not broken. They have changed a lot and added some new stuff. Healing is now the here instead of regeneration of health which adds more tactical approach. Thrust jumping and wall running is gone but still has a very fast paced gameplay. Now I haven't actually played zombies yet. But It looks very in-depth and they have multiple modes and maps to choose from.

    Don't let other people confuse you on this game, do your own research on the game by watching gameplay. If you are only interested in solo stuff, this might not be for you. Though they have a little bit of story and solo stuff with the specialist characters. You can easily get 100s of hours out of this game. Get bored of close quarters versus, move to the huge long range combat of BR. Getting tired of player vs player, move over to the zombies mode or the Specialist headquarters mode.     People clearly don't understand what are they talking about. From the beginning Treyarch told us about singleplayer. That they won't add it. But instead I was really surprised when i saw short background story's about characters of multiplayer. Plus if you want to get good story, you can easily go to Zombie mod, and play it. It has very strong and interesting plot.

    I don't want to talk about battle-royale, personally don't like this genre, but everybody just telling me that is the best on market, maybe yes maybe not.
    And the last part multiplayer. I've played WW2 and i can said that BO4 is too different. Another sound, shooting mechanic, class system (IT IS NOT TAKEN FROM OVERWATCH, DON'T FORGET THAT TREYARCH HELPED BLIZZARD TO CREATE OVERWATCH), and many other things.     There are 3 modes. Blackout being the most hyped, lives up to all expectations and more. Fast fluid cod gameplay. Sublime movement. Lots of gadgets and toys to play with. And land, sea and air vehicles to mess around on. This is the pinnacle of BR gaming imo.

    Zombies is back! As in the real one.......as in Treyarch Zombies. Nobody does it better. This year we have 3 big beautiful maps to explore. And they are all brimming with fun weapons, toys, secrets, missions, glorious visuals, seriously it's stunning. New modes are available too.

    Multiplayer, for me, is the best cod i've played since bops1. Which was my favourite cod ever. This is incredible. 9 new maps. I'd say honestly after 20 hours of play in this mode, 7 of them are amazing pure fun. Most importantly the map layouts are masterfully crafted. The other 2 maps aren't even bad. They are good. But the others are almost perfect. To make up the numbers 4 classics return including slums and jungle. These maps are as good as they've ever been. Nuketown surely on the way shortly as well.

    This year cod has a bigger emphasis on class ability use. Almost becoming a 'very lite' hero shooter. And it's a very welcome change. Healing in fights is now essential and adds a new layer to gameplay. There is a couple new modes added this year. One of which turns the game into a counter-strike type of game. Players start with a pistol and some money and must buy weapons, gadgets and abilities as rounds move on. This has become an addiction for me today.

    I have been blown away by the quality in this years cod. All the modes are outstanding. There's no better word to describe it.

However there is a single player which introduces you to the specialists (their back stories and how to use them ) which is, if you add it up , longer than any call of duty campaign period . In my honest opinion this feels like black ops 1 with black ops 2s guns black ops 3s specialista and the fact you have to be tactical to survive. A perfect mix for this franchise. The Black out mode is 2nd to non unless you like to build then go to the kiddie fortnite , because this here is for the grown n sexy lol .     Never bought any Call of Duty besides Modern Warfare 2. My friends that just as me heavily disliked the CoD series, decided to buy it and were having a blast. Now to some things others dislike: Singleplayer was never the main aspect of such games honestly. Its the Multiplayer. And it has a good Multiplayer.     Only problem is that im sure they will bring out a new CoD one day, probably not too far into the future and it prolly will gut the playerbase.

    But all in all, i recommend it as someone who only played shooter a la Overwatch, Tarkov, CS:Go and Borderlands.    … Expand

    i havnt bought a single call of duty since the first blackout. this... is good. rip single player, but its a dirty trade for peak performance/ momentum. A must buy if you like competitive fps games.

But as someone who never played COD online multiplayer before, I think the matchmaking ie in Team Deathmatch or Free for all is not very balanced. I am a level 2-3 player right now and have to play against level 30-40 constantly. Thats not very much fun. So I give this game a 7. with better matchmakingI really like this game. Specialy the BR mode is the best compared to Fortnite and Pubg. But as someone who never played COD online multiplayer before, I think the matchmaking ie in Team Deathmatch or Free for all is not very balanced. I am a level 2-3 player right now and have to play against level 30-40 constantly. Thats not very much fun. So I give this game a 7. with better matchmaking I would give it it a 9/10. Classic COD gun play is pretty good with some room for improvement, without the stupid spawn killing, streak kills multipliers that nuked the game, ruining it and its name. Been a hardcore anti-COD’er since Warfare 2, but they FINALLY got one right and they did a good job. I’m confident it will get evenGreat social game.     I haven't had this much fun with a Call of Duty game in a very long time! Everything feels just right, and I'm glad it's more grounded. I didn't think I'd like the whole class ability thing, however after playing it I'm in love with them! There's just something super satisfying about creating choke points with razorwire and barricades as Torque!

    I can't stop playing!

    Im not sure why this game is getting review bombed. I've been playing cod since cod 2. This is the best the franchise has been in about 7 years.

    Blackout is a nice addition to call of duty and will evolve heavily in the next couple years. It feels and controls just as cod multiplayer always has, just on a map around the size of fortnite. Every man for himself, duos, or quads.    Im not sure why this game is getting review bombed. I've been playing cod since cod 2. This is the best the franchise has been in about 7 years.

    Blackout is a nice addition to call of duty and will evolve heavily in the next couple years. It feels and controls just as cod multiplayer always has, just on a map around the size of fortnite. Every man for himself, duos, or quads. There will be different events added often. If this even remotely sounds good, give it a shot. Its a lot of fun, but its at its best in duos or quads.

    I've briefly played zombies XI map twice. Im not an Easter egg hunter but had a blast figuring out the basics of the map and blowing zombies to bits. Oh and there are 2 other maps included as well with its own standalone progression system from blackout and multiplayer.

    Multiplayer feels right again. It feels like where the series should have progressed after bo2 instead of the future setting and movement we got for a while. The best way i can describe how it feels is black ops 2, mixed with some bo3 elements. The maps are some of the best i've experienced in a long time. The killstreaks feel powerful when you earn them....... i'm looking at you ww2....... and the manual healing system adds extra strategy into your gameplay. And it becomes muscle memory real quick.

    Honestly don't let the 0 reviews scare you. Its obviously not a 0 by any stretch of the imagination. Although there are some balancing issues in multiplayer and blackout, they will get fixed and forgotten about. If you're a big fan of cod, like i am, l then i think there is a lot to love here. I have only experienced lag in a couple of matches with quads and there is very little stability issues at all so far. Guns all feel different and there are a lot of options for the secondary slots.

    All the multiplayer modes are totally solid. Heist is an interesting mode, but I usually just stick with the classic old TD or KC. Also like the single player tutorial mode for each of the specialist so you can decide which one you like. super big on the zombie mode but me and my wife have fun with it as you can add AI bots that seem to be not as dumb as I thought they would be.
    Does anyone even play a campaign anymore? I haven't played one in years. I guess if that is all I came for I would be a bit disappointed like some people are.    … Expand

    I'm not the biggest COD fan, I admit. I would honestly give this game a 7 or 7.5. All of its modes are always fun to play, whether it be blackout, multiplayer, or zombies. But I do find myself getting tired of playing them rather quickly, as some modes get repetitive. Granted, it's probably gonna something that I will come back to from time to time, whether it's to get a higher round on zombies, unlock more camos in multiplayer, or to get #1 in blackout. It also helps that I have many friends that enjoy the game and I play with almost daily.

    This is the first cod game i've played seriously since Black Ops 2 and I am absolutely loving this game so far. Definitely gonna play the **** out of this game for the next year (unless RDR2 eats my life away).    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game offers so much it's mind blowing. Even if you don't get the BOP the $60 you spend is still worth it. For the lack of a story/campaign they do offer a small story to get use to the character that are available at launch. The black-op mode is by far the best thing this game has simply because it's a grown up version of fortnite. A squad of your friends can make this mode that much worth it for your experience. The multiplayer version of the game is the same as before but the beauty of it is all everything you do matters and at least for me no more running and gunning. This series is by far the best and I hope that in the future that they do a dedicated VR mode for those that have the VR headset. Outside of that great game yes it's worth the 60 bucks.

    I don't play battle royale. But I play multiplayer. This game is fool of random death from bombs, choppers and stuff like that. There is no game mode 6 vs 6 without anything. Matchmaking is absolutely horrible: cant pick mode, map and skill balance. If you lvl1 you might get in game with 200lvl guys. Fix it.

    A fun game when it works, but with all the bugs, crashing and progress wipes, for a studio as experienced as Treyarch, is completely unacceptable. it's hard to shake the feeling that it's a game that was rebooted and rushed for release in 6 months, and the lack of quality is telling.

    This is horrible. There are more cheaters than legit players. This game has ZERO anti cheat technology. Reports are being ignored, Nazi flag emblems also. The gameplay is very unprecise, the classes dont make any difference they just confuse. I am glad I bought it via g2a, because this isnt worth more than 10$.

    The league doesnt work AT ALL. I waited for half an hour - no game found.

    1) Blackout mode - first battle royal that I liked, it is well balanced, good paced and runs perfect on PS4. I played PUBG (PC) and H1Z1 (PS4) and non of them was that good.
    2) Ranking match - i was expecting to see R6S, but it feels like BO2 with Overwatch and this is good. Bigger TTK makes game more fun than usually and encourages you to act bravely. Units are different from each other and allows you to make experiments.
    3) Zombie mode - I don't know, I don't play games like these.

    Some people complain about absence of story mode, but this is one of the biggest pros.
    Previous games was stupid as fu*k and everyone knew it, but didn't want to admit.
    So, if you haven't played BO4, but you like R6S, Overwatch, older parts of COD or good Battle royal, be sure this game you'll definitely like    … Expand

I do miss a single-player campaign though, which has been sacrificed for the focus of online multiplayer, which is what this game is all about. It's still character-based abilities with a familiar customisation of weapons and gadgets. The maps are all really good and updates keep coming. You get cosmetics like skins, camouflage and stickers by normal gameplay progress, as long as events are up, and most look really good. It's a solid buy which you at least should get at a seasonal discount at this point, especially if you and your friends plan on getting something new to play.

    I'm not a hardcore try hard player, but I've been playing most of these games, and Black Ops 4 is breath of fresh air. Not the sensation of that time when we all played Modern Warfare 2, but a nod towards that time saying "Ok, yeah we're stepping back a bit to resemble that". I found it easier to play as a senior player too, maybe because of the exclusion of wall-running and all that, but also because of how you still can get top Killstreaks with a little bit of luck and good effort. So, if you liked the old games, this flirts with you.

    (Also, there's Blackout. Which is a battle royale setup. I've only played it a handfull of times and twas a new experience for me. Quite fun. I haven't played much Fortnite, PUBG or whatever so I can't compare that much, but from what I hear through my friends they really like it by comparison.     Finally there is Blackout which is very similar to PUBG, but stable. They've added perks (time limited when in use) to find as well. The map includes locations of previous COD games. They've also got a fun area with zombies that they threw into the mix. The additions work quite well and doesn't take away from the Battle Royale experience.

    As with any new game, there are some tweaks that need to be made. Bad respawns in multiplayer. The base game is the standard $60, but I spent $100 for the deluxe digital edition. I also had to purchase Playstation Plus. So be prepared to spend some money at the get go if this is your first go around with COD.

    I haven't seen a DLC ever worth the $30/$40, and my expectations are low for BO4 to be any different. If Treyarch is going to join the Battle Royale realm, I expect consistent content updates similar to Fortnite. But as I've said, my expectations are low.

    If you are a fan of multiplayer gaming, you'll enjoy this game. $60 is ok to spend on this especially if you don't typically play with friends. If you do, then expect to put money down for the DLC as well unless you expect all your friends to never go beyond the base game. I enjoy it. I play on my own and sometimes with friends. Spending $160 (Deluxe + PS Plus) hurt, and although there is decent amount of content on the DLC, I hope for content updates for all players for at least Blackout. Hoping for the best, but expecting the worst.    … Expand

    Game is honestly very surprising to me. Didn't really expect it to be this good. It's got 3 modes that are all fun and replayable, no campaign so they can focus more on the other modes, and its very fun to play with friends. If you've got the console (or a PC that can run it), if you've got the money, I think it's all worth it.

This however does not excuse the fact that their is no campaign. The constant jumping by players in multiplayer can be infuriating. The multiplayer needs more game modes and playlists. The heist and control modes are "newest" modes but these are literally CSGO and overwatch rip-offs. If i bought this game for 40$ this game would be more like 7 or 8 out of 10, but for a fully priced triple A i expected more and better.     Also: It is $60 even though it doesn't have a lot of features, but treyarch are always working to add on to it, there are some games with barely five hours of story with no online and get praised

Even thought it's small maps, it makes up with the slightly slower gun play, that evens the game out very nicely. The weapons are fun and the new spray patterns are really nice. The modes are very fun, especially the new ones like Heist and control, but DOM feels a bit campy and spawn trappy.
    Blackout is the most polished BR mode out there. The fun play is good, the vihecls are fun and the mode is very competitive.
    Zombies really hits it home for me. The maps are beautiful and they play very well. The mode has gotten a fresh take while still being treyarch zombies. it's a nice new perk system and the new elixirs are a polished and better gobbelgum system. The new Zombies is both Noob friendly and a challenge for the Hardcore players, because of the new difficulty system. The easter eggs are back and are okay but not the best they have been. The graphics are great and you become really immersed into the game. weapons are also really fun and good in zombies.

    This COD really deserves more praise, and not all the hate from the salty people because they took out a **** gamemode. If you really are so upset about it then why do you still buy the game. its dumb you're complaining but still riding activision as always.
    To end this off, this Cod is really fun and if you are in search of a good multiplayer game, then definitely buy this game.

    One of the most replayable cod's ever. It has a lot of content that will always keep you busy. It might not have a campaign but it will carry you through the weekend no problem.

    The addition of supply drops is horrible but does not affect the gameplay at all.

    With all the tweaks, adjustment, fluidity, and removal of characters flying all around the screen it has honed the gameplay performance. The added feature of non-regenerating health makes it feel more tactical allowing for various maneuver, strategy, and a stronger sense of teamwork. It is not Rainbow Six: Siege levels but much more than previous installments.

    EDIT: Since the micro transaction kicked in, I have lowered my score from a 8 to a 5. I can't believe the grind for the simplest thing or paying a dollar for a single red pixel.    … Expand

    Game is fun as a fast pace game. Multiplayer has good attachments but you do have to play to earn them. Zombie is good but you have to buy the season pass to play the original. blackout is almost realistic but you can get some crazy kills in the game. worth the money.

    Congrats. While i thought ww2 was a good game it definatly had its flaws but this games is fantastic. This game has no campaign but all the multiplayer is great. Apart from blackout which i think is the best battle royal but that doesnt mean i think its that all in all its so good i bought the bo pass

    While Blackout is good, I am in love with the MP. It is so buttery smooth, and we finally have some deviation from the 3 lane map formula that started to drive me insane in the later CODs. Heist and Control are two excellent new game types which keep it fresh as well. Its not perfect, but it's finally done something to make itself different from previous titles. A lot of the reviews mention the lack of campaign, I will get far more value out of Blackout than I would have from a campaign, so I see it as a fair trade.    … Expand

And even after all that trashing, this is still a decent game, especially if you're looking for a casual multiplayer game to pour hours in that has some addictive elements. I’m one that loves the single player first & MP second or third (Spec ops probably second & zombies after that). The battle Royal isnt worth the effort it just seems pointless. Pay for skins, then be forced to grind or pay more $ to receive the skins you already paid for? Nah. i'll pass. I've hated on fortnite but for a game with transactions they seem to be doing it right.

    In what regards the multiplayer, it's really nothing really new nor better than before. I feel like playing Black Ops 3 without the jetpacks, in a slight worse quality actually. That being said, it's still enjoyable and I still play it regularly. I just really hate this carnival vibe with all those crazy camos and unrealistic childish things. We'll see if MW2019 does better, because it's now quite a while that CoD doesn't improve anymore.

    a few modes to choose from with little-to-no explanation, and a few locked modes also with no description what they are or why they are locked leads to trial by fire, and quick, confusing deaths - especially if you try to jump into online multiplayer...

    the closest thing to single player, Zombies, has a Resident Evil meets Left 4 Dead feel to it, but even on Casual is pretty difficult and confusing... why i would run out of ammo so fast and have no idea what my objective was, on easy mode, is beyond me...

    after some online research i found out i had to earn points to open doors (point-gates), to get artifacts, to unlock more point-gates, rinse-repeat; and points i earn also unleash new waves of zombies, upping the difficulty…

    only by looking online did i find out that i could add AI teammates, called Bots, to my squad; adding Bots only seems to complicate things more, even though the Bots have pretty competent AI, you cannot command them in any way at all, they are liable to steal your kills/points and may or may not open doors for you, but they will definitely raise the wave difficulty fast, potentially leading you to quicker deaths...

    Zombies only starts with three maps: Titanic, Alcatraz, and Roman Coliseum... Titanic offers some exploration, but feels limited fast; the Coliseum is immediately claustrophobic and annoying, this type of level design really doesn't belong in a shooter, if it wasn't confined enough, walls of flames lock you into close quarters with dozens of zombies and limited ammo almost immediately, baffling considering melee combat is so limited; Alcatraz looks good and provides some room for exploration, but is also frustratingly linear, repetitive and overwhelming...

    my few attempts to join online multiplayer took quite a bit of settings guess-work, loading and holding screens (15 minutes) only to be instantly killed over and over (within 30 seconds or less) while i had no idea what the heck was happening, where i was supposed to go, who was on my team, who was shooting me, what was the objective, etc... i found that pretty frustrating as i'm sure did my teammates, whoever they were...

    i am not completely incompetent at shooters; i've completed Doom, Destiny, Wolfenstein, Battlefield, previous CoD's; but man, getting online here is just instant death and frustration; not motivated to figure out what went wrong, why, or how to improve....

    you can tell a lot of work went into this game, but it seems like it was trying to appeal exclusively to multiplayer online shooter savvy gamers so much that it leaves any newcomers or solo players completely left out; it is customizable, modal, and online-centric to a fault: it's hard to find a fun entry point or any sense of direction as a casual gamer looking for a story or campaign...

    comparatively, i really enjoyed the single player campaign of the last Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare; unfortunately this new CoD is clearly not meant for gamers like me, nothing like that experience can be found here...

    i just kind of don't care if i never play this again after one frustrating night, no wonder the price dropped to $39 so fast..

    anyone looking for a fun, single-player shooter, i could easily recommend recent Doom, Wolfenstein, Resident Evil releases over this    … Expand

    Stock 2 and annihilator break competitive. Treyarch refuses to remove GA'd weapons and abilities out of competitive. Pubs have so many OP weapons and attachments it's unplayable. Treyarch doesn't care about competitive multiplayer at all.

There's nothing quite like picking up a Paladin sniping rifle in a map that size. Every game has issues. COD devs seemingly still need to put in a max lag compensation threshold, for example. A lot of the multiplayer maps are remakes. Still, it's an all around great experience. The Firing Range map is as good as classic Nuketown. In a world where people pay 25 bucks for a single pizza delivery or 15 for 1 person at a movie, I see no problem with a $100-ish game package. I wish I could have gotten the mystery - super box edition. I feel like the netcode runs better on PS4, as I also have it on XBox.… Expand

    I really enjoyed the battle royale in this game. If your new to it, you have many fun hours ahead of you.

    And battle royale does get boring after some time. Especially since there is only one map (it is a good map, but still - it gets repetitive).
    So if your fine forking up the price to just play the battle royale, you will probably enjoy this. But for me, ultimately it feelt like it was not worth the price. And they seem to have no plans on expanding on it either. This game should have been 30 USD, or it should have had a good singleplayer experience. Which is why I can only give it a 5/10 - it just is not worth the asking price    … Expand

I'll admit I've spent the least amount of time in Zombies, but I hope to get back into it eventually. The only thing I don't like is that most of the trophies for this game are unlocked via Zombies and I would have liked to see more trophies in the other modes.

    You might also say a negative is there's no longer a campaign really anymore. Personally, I don't call this a negative because thinking back to all the campaigns in older CoDs, they honestly weren't even that good. Nor will they ever be as good as CoD4:MW campaign. The missions themselves just got stale as the series has grown, so seeing it ditched altogether was no surprise. What might be considered campaign now is quick little stories from the different classes. They pit you against AI and overall it's quite boring, especially if you already played the MP. It's there just to get you familiar with each class, which makes no difference at all if you play Heist or Blackout all day.

The multiplayer got better when updates released, and the zombies stayed good. Without a story it wasn’t as good though. The game is fun and good, but not great.

    I am unable to play online with friends, due to an error that has been present since Black Ops 3. If a game is online only, and doesn't let you play online with friends, then it is worthless and gets a 0 rating for not being playable.

We all know this series is going downhill for more than a decade now but after getting CODBO4 for free on ps plus I don't even want this game for free. Not only this is garbage, I've been a fan of activision since River raid on the C64 and Atari. From the bottom of my heart after seeing where call of duty is today, I wish you activision a speedy bankruptcy and for all your corporate suits to lose everything you own and that you end up on the street, you people are disguising and are not worthy of living… Expand

    It is pretty much the same as every other Call of Duty (minus the fact this version has a battle royal). If you like modes like Team Deathmatch (the only mode I play on a regular basis), you’ll like this one. However, as others have pointed out there is no campaign (I haven’t even played the campaign from the last five COD’s, except WW2, that campaign was worth it).     What a shame, i´m completed disappointed , this game sucks, i buy some days ago and the graphics, mobility are really annoying comparing with Advanced Warfare or WWII, its a shame spend this money on this game. the game companies need to put more efforts and time on improve better the games.

Treyarch knocked it out of the park, and trading the single player for Blackout (the best battle royal game to date), three zombies maps, and more multiplayer maps than usual was well worth it IMO.     It's also worth noting that I'm usually pretty negative when it comes to this franchise. It hasn't been amazing for some time. Previous Black Ops games were good, but not amazing like MW1 and 2. This is back up to standard. Give this game a chance and you won't regret it.

    EDIT: I had to come back and edit this after how they nickled and dimed the playerbase. The microtransactions were horrible. My review was posted at launch and I'm back here 10-2-19 to make the change.    … Expand

    I'm a long time CoD player but I'm very disappointed with BO4

    Everything about the game is so mundane, it has no personality. I'm almost through my first prestige but I couldn't name a single new map cause they're all so forgettable. The same is true for the rest of the game.

    It’s not that I can’t respect it — it seems to offer decent value in that it’s essentially three different types of shooter in one package, but aside from the new Blackout mode, I’ve had significantly better experiences from many of its competitors. And honestly, Blackout’s main competition is a free-to-play game. It may be better than Fortnite in my opinion, but sixty dollars better? I’m not entirely convinced about that, and without a decent singleplayer campaign attached, it’s a pretty hard sell for anyone who isn’t already a fan.

    Despite its generic title Black Ops IV feels like a fresh start for Call of Duty. The multiplayer and the zombie mode is very much the same as always, but with Blackout, Treyarch takes everything that is good with Player Unknown's Battleground and makes it better.
