I don't entirely agree with a lot of the critic reviews. I don't think the game is hollow, I feel like it is a vibrant and oddly both dark and uplifting world that THQ Nordic has created. Simply an incredible game to be made by so few people. It goes from less to more at all times and makes very wise decisions as soon as you delve into the video game. The narrator is the most prominent negative point but it is difficult for me to negatively assess the work of this small studio and that it has brought us an adventure of exploration that is very worthwhile.

This game utter fails on everything, it tries to do a lot and managed to fail on every single part.

First of all the combat is a joke, its boring, it feels clunky, it has low skills, just button mash, its a tedious boring part of the game. The bosses are like, build a mech and fight it....so ok something else then the actual combat and they are not hard or anything just build, repeat.

The narration is honestly an utter joke, could be one of the weirdest thing I have ever seen, the characters all speak in Gibberish and then the narrator explains what they say, so u gotta listen to the gibberish and then have the narrator say what they say................WOOOT

Fake open world, invisible walls etc.

This is yet another miserly game with zero creativity or any good ideas, it just tries to take from other games and performs worse in every aspect.

Dont pre order stuff from this publisher, they always fail, they are unable to get actual competent people, only thing they can do is do these bad copies of actually good games.

If you go into this comparing it to AAA games, you will be disappointed. But if you can forgive the small issues then you will find a fun, quirky game with unique characters and combat.

There are a couple of things that i would like changed which i believe would improve the player experience.
Firstly, the camera is quite close to the player. Whilst this is nice when exploring, it makes combat difficult as it makes seeing all enemies harder. By zooming out in combat, or allowing the user to change camera zoom this would improve the combat experience.
Also, the game is very stop/start for the first hour or so, and takes away the immersion of the world. Whilst this is seen as the tutorial part and is probably more directed at the younger audience, as an experienced gamer i found the hand-holding frustrating. I would like the ability to not have so much interjection from tutorials.
Also, dialogue can be a bit slow as the narrator only translates conversations after they've happened. it would be nice to have him translate at the same time, just to speed up conversations.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't think players rating this game put in enough time. I'm seeing a lot of "couldn't make it past the tutorial", that's the slowest part of any game. Same with the idiotic reaction like "the narrator is annoying". It can be tuned down, or turned off in settings.
You really need to spend more than an hour in the game to see its beauty, level up to get a feel of the combat system, and explore around and do side quests to see there are more variety than the fetch quests I see complained about.

I think x 101 did a fine job. Would like to see more content added to towns, because that is about the only repetitive, boring part about the game. Stop complaining about bugs in the first few days, there has never been a new game released without a few minor issues.

Unfortunately if a game has a AAA price tagged, it gets reviewed as a AAA game. There are plenty of masterpiece indie games with less than $20 pricetags. Though the team had vision, they overreached their goal and ultimately fell extremely short on the execution. If this was being sold for $30-40 dollars, the reviews would be much different to reflect that.

As $60 dollar game this would be a 6 tops Unfortunately the rating is 6.9 due to fake 10s so I will be giving it a 1.

I really want to persuade myself that this is a good game but I just can't.

    1. The movement design of the game is not convincing: All the characters in the game move in a way that I can't understand. I can't feel power in those moves of the little beast yet it bounce forward like 5 meters away, or some times it just sprint forward for 50 cm. I feel like floating on a layer of air in stead of standing, walking, running and fighting on a solid ground. The moving distance produced by the same action is not the same so I just confuse about what I'm should do during a fight, since I just can't presume the outcome of the move after making it.

All the attacks hit like waving feather at a piece of wood and hitting feedback from the enemies is confusing plus with the problem that sometimes they fight back, some times they don't, I just can't tell if I've hit them or not.

    2. The animations that cut in all of a sudden are disrupting: After all most every 5 minutes of gameplay in the first hour, there is a animation which will stop me from operating my character and that really piss me off. It was like I finally seems to sink in the game but the narrator just pull me out of it for another wait. Whats more, the animation don't quiet match the last movement I made before it cuts in so my character might flash away form the place where it last stopped and I can feel the cut like, for example some frame is missing due to the censorship.

    3. All the conversation with the NPC is the same of the animation I've mentioned above, so...

    4. The so called mutant is just another skin for "build" in common RPG. You are just picking skills like before so don't be too excited about it.

In a word, this game is like half made beta and even the main spot light: act and kongfu is not appealing at all during my game play, not to mention the rest of the parts.

Perhaps in the future the game with be patched to a nice one but now It just doesn't worth the price. Skip it and skip the regret.

    Trust me plz.

If you do this I think that you will have the most fun and that is a lot of fun.

    Verdict: Highly recommend.

After finishing it last night, I went through my complete quest log and scribbled down the list of fetch and collection quests. It's not an exaggeration to say it's the bulk of the game. Easily 85% of it. I could live with that if such quests meaningfully expanded the world, but they don't. The vast majority of them just lead you to a tiresome rotation puzzle that gives you a piece of random loot you've probably seen a dozen times before. They had an opportunity to use the old world items like televisions, radios, computers, and movie projectors to help tell the story of this broken, apocalyptic world and, inexplicably, did nothing with them.

The combat was lackluster and felt detached throughout. Playing as a melee Sentinel class, I was disappointed to realize that guns always beat melee weapons no matter how much you invested in strength or how much you'd mod your melee weapons. Other than the few-and-far between armored enemies, every enemy could be easily dispatched with a rifle or auto rifle and kiting them around the combat area. Crafting was a bright spot early on but then I started finding "Ultimate Meleeweapons" and "Ultimate Rangedweapons" which outclassed anything I could craft by a LARGE margin. If they started losing power, all I had to do was swap a higher level addon and it was overpowered again. Playing on Hard difficulty, almost all enemies were pushovers with exception to the Worldeaters, who were only difficult by virtue of the fact that the player has to use a scripted method of defeating them rather than our normal combat skills. Bio and Psi skills do little to no meaningful damage, and only Shroom and Freeze are worth taking for minor mob crowd control. All weapons use the exact same combo button presses. Learn one, you've learned them all.

Most damning, I felt nothing for the world or my character because the game did little to make me care. It just throws you in with an hour of exposition dump and sends you on your way. It then showers you with endless collection side quests. The tribe war was boring as nearly every outpost and fortress played out the same way every time, without fail. Plus they did nothing to really distinguish the tribes beyond a blurb about whether they were light or dark aligned.

All in all, this feels like a game that would have been an 8 about a decade ago. With the evolution of open world games over the last generation, this now feels dated and utterly devoid of meaning. Strip out all the collection and fetch quest padding, and you have a game that is, AT MOST, 10 hours -- and that's assuming you don't skip the tribe war after conquering the second tribe (yes, the game will let you fast-foward *a main story arc* after only completing two of five conquests).

It's a $20 game at most. It is the worst kind of open world checkbox padding, the kind of game that would have been at home at the tail end of the Xbox 360/PS3 generation, not at the start of the XSX/PS5 one.

    -----------

And now, the collect-a-thon list for those curious:

Old World items that reward you with crafting mats or armor (5 of each type unless noted, all are rotation puzzles): Washing machines, telephone booths, house telephones, globes, record players (3), radios, guitars, pianos, computers, televisions, movie projectors, safes, arcade cabinets, toilets, microwaves.

Old World items that reward you with slight stat boosts to strength, vitality, or agility (3 of each type, all are QTEs): Treadmills, Dumbbells, Bench Press machines.

15 Old World Noticeboards that reward you with cosmetic automation skins.

Others: 4 sundials, 13 captives, 11 bandit outposts, 14 Old World storage shelters, 6 lumen shrines, 4 aura altars, and more I’m sure I’m forgetting.

The problem is that this kind of game needs to be immersive, not have an "outside looking in" perspective. Therefore the narrator constantly pulls you out of the immersion.

It seems like most reviewers lost their mind getting annoyed about the narrator and just pushed to finish this game asap to review it. A lot of the reviews are disappointing, often saying things that are completely untrue; the game is linear, the world is flat, the world is unpopulated, the enemies are all the same and not varied. All of this is provably false. Also rampant reports of the game being too easy while other reviewer say the unpolished combat is too hard. This game is at its best when you just explore and uncover fun stuff - when you are barreling toward the finish line to give this game a bad review, you haven't actually experienced the true game at all.

Lets be real - Biomutant is an unapologetically weird experiment of a game. While many feel that they got too far off the beaten path, I say its refreshing to experience something new, especially in this open work genre that is starting to get beaten to death at this point. Its not a perfect game, more like a jack of all trades. If you are looking for a game that's a master of something, this isn't it. Its a game about sitting back and enjoying the wild and cooky ride. If that is your mindset going in, you are going to have a lot of fun.

I would say the closest comparison that you can make for this game is Fallout. Every Bethesda game ever has been ripe with bugs and problems around every corner. While biomutant sure has a lot of weirdness, it has had a much cleaner launch. Yet before 76, bethesda games were showered with praise where Biomutant is getting dragged through the mud. While not perfect, this game is far from an embarrassingly buggy release that is all to common in this day an age.

Some of the biggest things holding Biomutant back are simply fine tuning. When new players get their hands on a game they like to band and break it in ways devs could never have imagined. This game is being broken in many ways that can be fixed with simple updates. Bring down some overpowered things, bring up some weak things. Mix in more perks. Fine tune some combat elements. Clean up some UIs. Most of the dirt can be cleaned off this game with a few basic content patches, and Experiment 101 has already announced they are working on it.

Regardless, this game is just pure fun and I'm having a blast with it.

The customization options in terms of builds are huge, in a good way, and for me, this is definitely going to mean I will be replaying this game and creating multiple characters. The environment is beautiful, literally the most aesthetically pleasing world I have experienced since Horizon Zero Dawn. The seemingly infinite draw distance gives you some almost breathtaking views. The crafting system allows you to craft anywhere at any time which is great. Upgrades have to be made at workbenches which is no bother because you can fast travel. I am really enjoying the story and the narration is exceptionally good. It has a sad sense of irony to it considering the stark warnings that unless making drastic changes over the next 10 to 30 years we will push our planet beyond its environmental tipping point resulting in cataclysmic, non-reversable changes. I am on PS4 Pro and I have experienced some frame rate issues but it happens very rarely and has not spoilt the game for me. I can only imagine how lovely this game is on a PS5. Biomutant is novel and original in many ways but you will be familiar with its open-world structure, the style of which I personally enjoy. I am glad I didn't pay attention to the bad reviews and trusted my instinct about Biomutant. I will be playing it and enjoying it probably for 100s of hours. Expand

After playing for 13 hours I completed the single-player campaign and completed some secondary missions but to platinum the game it takes about 70 hours so there is still so much more to discover in the world of Biomutant ... There are many weapons to discover ... places ... friends, enemies and subplots. Also there are 2 endings.
My hours spent in Biomutant have been very pleasant and intense, it has very colorful graphics, sometimes the frame rate drops drastically but nothing compromising, excellent music and a good plot, perhaps not recommended for those who do not appreciate the games narrated ... it starts slowly but then it's just a crescendo of emotions and the gameplay is spectacular and makes everything wonderful and unique.
The game only crashed once. there are flaws: repeated phrases, frame rates, pop up - pop in, but for a team of only 20 people, and with a very low budget, you can't blame them for anything. Furthermore, they have just stated that there will be future updates to improve the product.
Maybe it has 60 euros and it costs a little high but if you find it at a discount give it a chance and you won't be disappointed.

The visuals are often times awe-inspiring, the narration and character design is top-tier, and most importantly, and one thing many of these "professional" (I use that term loosely) reviewers are not mentioning, is just how addictive and fun the game is to play. I fail to understand how a game like Final Fantasy Remake, which is barely an RPG and more of a guided tour in futility and frustration with absolutely no freedom at all (loved the original, HATED the remake) can garner such praise when a new and lovingly crafted IP such as Biomutant is getting crapped on. Ok so the world doesn't have a super lot going on at the moment...has anyone really played Shadow of the Colossus? Because they're ain't a whole lot going on in that games world either. And that game was also often times an exercise in frustration when it came to combat/controls/climbing. The sad reception of a game such as this, is living proof of why companies shell out mindless and soulless clones of COD and Madden every year. Most people just don't want to try anything new or different. Well to those knee jerking, Red Bull drinking, Funnion eating, twitch-finger zombies, keep your wallets full because the clone age will never leave you. I'll stick to titles with imagination and vision. DON'T LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS. PLAY THE GAME FOR YOURSELF.

The best thing I can say about biomutant is that they tried.. does this look like a ps3 game?? Yes. Did it crash on me like 10 times including during and after an entire boss battle? Yes.. is it way too easy to accidentally sell your currently worn items to merchants so you kind of just ignore that aspect of the game? Yes. but they tried really hard to give you a content packed rpg, from weapon parts, to armour parts to find across this world.. tons and tons.. and tons and tons.. and tons and tons.. and tons and tons of dialog… however.. none of it comes together in an enjoyable way.
Biomutant is a great idea, choose a tribe, interact with the other tribes and either switch sides or try to bring them all together… theres even a balance of lightness and darkness depending on your actions.. but this affects nothing but the ending of the game and the abilitites youre able to unlock for combat..
Combat here is alright. .you have ranged weapons as well as the possibility to make really great close ranged melee weapons.. you can really go out into this world and craft some really great stuff as you set out to take down the 4 adorable world eaters… which are this games main bosses…
But the problem with biomutant is everything in between the good parts and theres way too much of it…
its like eating a sandwhich with a meter thick dry bread.. I would wager that nearly half of my 9 and a half hours was spent sitting through this games excruciating dialog… Biomutant never wants to shut up and just let you play its game.. anytime you get anywhere heres 10 minutes of hearing blabber while your brittish grasshopper translates for you… and its all always the same thing blah blah tree of life blah blah lightness darkness blah blah revenge forgive its all so unnecessary, boring, ad just pads out the game in such a bad way.. there is never any interesting dialog here.. theres no interesting story moments or cutscenes.. it all feels like a giant waste of my time.. I just want to get back into the world and take down the world eaters… along the way youll be doing other tasks to get to the world eaters.. these tasks are all basically the same, go to this building, do some switch flipping puzzles, and catch these creatures then go take down the world eater.. all while youll run into other mamals.. taking them on with your mutant abilities that you get to choose and of course your weapons you’ve been building up.. and while actually putting in the effort to craft the best items is enjoyable.. and collecting the items and materials for the best build possible.. the actual combat here is just not satisfying.. enemies are way too spongy.. so after sitting through mountains of dialog that thankfully are skippable.. you barley get to have any fun out in its world…
Biomutant was decently enjoyable.. but overall I was pretty let down by this boring slog of a world.
At least it has a great message.. stop polluting.
    I give Biomutant a 6.5/10

Biomutant is easily one of the most intriguing games of 2021 and it's unique premise is pleasantly refreshing. The story of my experiences with the game, both before and after release, is perhaps just as interesting as Experiment 101's debut IP.

Biomutant first came to my attention in June 2020 when it's developer, Experiment 101, released a 9 minute trailer showcasing their upcoming project. My initial impressions after watching this trailer were interesting to say the least. From what I saw I felt that Biomutant looked fun and was different in a good way, but at the same time I got the feeling that it wouldn't be regarded as a great game, nor would it receive any game of the year nominations, it's greatest strength - the weird, post-apocalyptic children's cartoon-esque design of it's world and characters - also proving to be it's greatest weakness, as the overall vibe was so intensely alternative.

Then, almost a year later, Experiment 101 released a gameplay demo of what the finished game would look like, and for me, Biomutant couldn't come out soon enough. Then when the game was finally released, my eager anticipation was soured by the reviews I read. Now that I've spent 58 hours with Biomutant, it's now my turn to provide my opinion of the game.

Biomutant is an open world, action RPG equally like and unlike anything before it. It begins with a fantastically rendered cinematic that establishes a tone that the essence of the actual game never quite seems to capture. Afterwards you create your own unique 'biomutant' (or if you're like me and can't be bothered then go with the default character because that looks cool enough) and start your journey.

At a glance, Biomutant looks like a gene spliced amalgamation of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Immortals: Fenyx Rising, Control, Mass Effect, Fallout, Devil May Cry, Titanfall, Batman: Arkham and Banjo Kazooie. While this is an impressive roster of inspired elements, the unfortunate truth is that Biomutant is a lesser imitation of it's inspirations - think Breath of the Wild at the quality level of Days Gone.

Despite the dramatic setup of it's trailers and aforementioned intro cinematic, Biomutant's 'main story' is less a story and more a series of main quests that help you reach the end of the game. The cutscenes are rigid and disjointed, poorly conveying any sense of narrative. The cast of characters lack personality, spouting pun laden dialogue that wouldn't feel out of place at a positivity seminar.

Quest design, both main and side, reminded me a lot of Assassin's Creed Odyssey (in a bad way) due to the simple singular 'fetch' or 'do' objectives which rob the game of any distinct, memorable quest moments. Another similarity to Odyssey was the sense of content bloat with some (if not many) side quests being linked to location objectives. In one instance I even noted that one side quest - 'The Lotus Captain' - was repeated four times among four different quest givers and were all tied to one single objective.

Beyond it's over-simplified objectives, the real problem with Biomutant's quest design is that the payoff at the end of every quest never matches the setup. Oftentimes, most (if not all) quests conclude in a dissatisfying, anti-climactic way - which made me feel like I'd wasted my time. Another issue is that when you receive a new side quest, 90 percent of the time your new objective can be anywhere between 1000 metres to 3500 metres away from where you are. This is often immensely frustrating because you have to travel vast distances just to do simple, underwhelming objectives.

Combat is the main drawcard in Biomutant (besides exploration) and despite being somewhat janky, is still relatively enjoyable. Enough weapon types, combos, psi-powers, mutations and the much touted 'Super Wung-Fu' keep encounters fun. The flip side is that the enemy AI is dumb, melee feedback and sound registration is virtually non-existent, and melee inputs are slightly delayed. Around the 15 hour mark I obtained a powerful shock rifle which allowed me to stun-lock enemies indefinitely, making every combat encounter laughably easy.

While exploring Biomutant's world may seem akin to Breath of the Wild, it's nowhere near as alive. Enemies defeated in the world never respawn and NPCs perform rigid animations or pace back and forth aimlessly, never interacting with the world. I observed some NPCs trying to chop wood, but instead they simply knocked the log off the chopping block, only to place it back in position and repeat the process over and over. Colour alignment puzzles are repeated ad nauseum, depriving any sense of variation or inventiveness.

For all it's faults, Biomutant NEEDS and DESERVES a sequel to re-code it's genetic make-up. When it comes to quantity, Biomutant is great, but this deeply affects it's quality, making it a generic mutant.

Not so boring unless you hate subtle narrative and require in your face action to keep you engaged. Although the puzzles aren't challenging, there are some varied quest designs at play that made them feel more satisfying than the tired fetch quests of other games.

A sublime experience that sadly won't be appreciated by most of today's gamers.

BioMutant, at times, seems like a game that might have been excellent about a decade ago. Its graphical fidelity on the PS4 seems a generation behind; its "cutscenes" are extremely rough around the edges, its story is incredibly by-the-numbers, and its pretentious British narrator becomes grating after only a few hours. But despite all this, BioMutant is fun as hell. And while it may not be everyone's cup of tea, those that enjoy it will enjoy it greatly.

Where BioMutant really shines is in its mechanics. The crafting system is relatively deep, and its loot mechanics are also solid. Though the dedication to the post-apocalyptic aesthetic makes some weapon designs sometimes seem unwieldy and less than appealing, the fact that the game will allow you to upgrade weapons you do like the look/bonuses of means that you can essentially make some weapons you like using worthy of endgame play. Exploration, too, is enjoyable - while there is an admitted lack of originality or diversity in terms of what activities there are to do at each point of interest, the vastness of the map means that if you enjoy this sort of open-world approach, you will not be disappointed. In terms of comparisons, BioMutant seems to bear similarities to Assassin's Creed: Odyssey in terms of its exploration (though I would say it is a slight improvement over Odyssey in terms of quality), and depending on what you look for in a video game, that may either be appealing or off-putting.

A more debatable, middling and subjective aspect of BioMutant's features is its combat - much like its treatment of exploration, its combat seems like it could be appreciated by some, loved by others, and hated by others still. Its hack-and-slash style of play seems to resemble a sloppier Kingdoms of Amalur with guns, and possesses a similar lack of challenge. However, unlike Amalur, the feedback provided within combat feels lacking from both an auditory and physical perspective - there is no real "weight" behind the impact of your blows. Those looking for a Dark Souls-esque experience will be frustrated beyond belief at not just the lack of impact behind their attacks, but also the general ease of combat. This game does not treat combat as anything complex, and its simplicity will likely alienate many while also drawing some others in.

Sadly, BioMutant's successes cannot prevent its players from noticing just how much this game looks like it was released as an alpha build. It is hard to know where to even begin in terms of describing these issues, because there are so many. The astonishingly unpolished cutscenes, the graphical glitches, the jumpy transitions, and the visual presentation in general are shockingly below expectations. For all the aesthetic beauty of the game's open world, there is something remarkable about how sloppy some parts of this game look. Combining this with the occasional grammatical/spelling mishaps, occasional gameplay glitches (such as not being to activate the glider before re-loading the game) and "janky," erratic combat issues (such as bullets from guns missing their target for what seems like no apparent reason), and you start to get the idea that this game could have used a lot more time in the oven.

As far as a story goes, BioMutant seems to treat any narrative beats as secondary to gameplay. For those who don't pay much attention to the story (i.e. skipping cutscenes and narration), this will be a moot point - however, anyone looking for a rich, deep story can give this game a pass. Few characters really stand out in any way, and nothing about their "dialogue" (read: The narrator putting words in their mouths) is worthwhile or interesting. You go out into the world, you be the hero (or the villain), and get one of two endings based on whether you are good or bad. Again, this is another element of the game that will seem archaic and uninteresting to some, but appealing in its simplicity to others. Whether you can take it or leave it, it would be silly to give this game credit for its storytelling.

Like some other non-AAA studio efforts, such as Greedfall and Outward, BioMutant is ripe for classification as a potential cult classic. Its egregious lack of polish is obvious, but for those who can see past this, there is a wonderfully entertaining open-world game that will grab your attention for hours and hours. Rather than mass appeal, this game will likely attract fans of action RPGs who are willing to stomach a metric ton of jankiness for the sake of tried, tested and true action RPG and open-world mechanics. I have personally enjoyed the game greatly thus far, but its appeal is narrow - consider what elements of video games you enjoy before buying this one, and be aware that if BioMutant does seem appealing to you, it likely will be. For those who will enjoy it, its price is reasonable - for those who prefer polish, interesting narratives and more nuanced, weighty combat, I recommend ignoring this one.

    -Minuses
-Every time u open any box or closet for loot u HAVE TO wait multiple seconds to watch animations until specs revealed. If u skip it u dont see what u got. Annoying af. I just skip everythin that arent legendary and check them out later all at once.
-Every enemy has the same two moves. -Separet outfit and gear options sucks and confuses. Should be on one tab.
-when u loot or buy there should be compared stats what u have on or own already.
-Imo there should be few more hit moves or combos.
-lack of meaningful npc's, they all r the same.
-Game is way too easy even from the first try extreme difficulty so it quickly becomes just run and shoot everything without really fear of dying or little dodging.

Afterall great excellent game from very small group of people and budjet and its a huge step for to continue future games.

It's like a corky N64 beat-em-up platformer in an open world setting with modern graphics. It draws inspiration from a lot of different games from the past and combines them all. Most of the people leaving negative reviews are just spoiled and expected this game to be the next Witcher 3 or something. It's good for what it is. Go in with low expectations and you may just find it to be a fun time.

I feel Thq did not put as much effort in to the PlayStation 4 /5 version of this game as it suffers from slight frame rate issues such as lag and stuttering , but I will say it is not as bad where it will ruin your experience .. also they choose not to add a 4K option for the Ps5 which the Ps5 is fully capable of handling it is laziness from thq Nordic .. I will have to rate the PlayStation copy slightly lower than the Xbox version

Its aesthetics are a bit all over the place but it has a clear theme of messed up evolution on top of the ruins and junk of the now extinct mankind.

The introduction phase is quite long because it crams a lot of tutorials in narrative style. The dialogues can slow down the pace a lot, so it takes a while to get into the game. But the core of it kicks in and the paths open up once you are free to choose your quests, find your mount, build your character, wander anywhere you want given you can survive the elements.

Skills and weapon types have different learning curves so they feel unequal at first until you find your favorite play style. After a while using the first thing that worked on most mobs it gets boring, but the character development is open enough so you can change directions and there is no need "respec" to keep your build viable. Sometimes the combat gets messy when there are too many mobs in the same fight, especially when there are two opposing groups involved in a fight.

I'm not giving 8/10 to counter the review bombers. It's a good game. Biomutant isn't perfect but it's not a botched release, it runs very well a. It does what many open-world action RPG's have done up until now. It combines many recipes of what made the genre popular but it looks like people suddenly decided to raise the bar sky high for story, originality, content and variety in a genre that rarely stands out in those aspects. I bet the bar will be low again on time before the next Ubisoft releases of sequels of upon sequels if you know what I mean.

Mission objectives usually require you to ride from point A to B, most of the goals are so far away that you need a long time to get there. Weapon crafting is great and I hope more games implement similar mechanics. The story is a disaster. Most of the main story-line comprises of fetch quests and then some boss fights, which are not memorable nor enjoyable. Some people probably enjoyed the narrator however, I can’t stand him, because every character seems the same and there is no variation, which is a shame as most of them look pretty cool. I understand that the game was made by a small number of people however it is sold for a AAA price and so it should be reviewed as such. It’s worth 20 bucks at most. Simply put, the game is not well executed, lacks cohesion, the story is very disappointing, some aspects are downright boring and uninspiring. Review: Sadly I have to say this game is not finished at all. At least three more years of developement would have been necessary to make this game good. The graphics of how the grass and the trees move or the climbing are just horrible. The fighting system is so messy and chaotic there are no things like clean and smart combos. I also miss quick time events, challenging climbing or tricky puzzles. Everything is too simple - unlimited sprinting, ammo and attack power make it far too easy. The world is like No Mans Sky: sometimes quite nice from outside but empty when you begin to explore. There is nothing but tons of loot and some enemies. It is not worth exploring the world - there are no hidden secrets, things to discover or side quests that lure you deeper into this world. You never get a connection to any of the characters or tribes so you never feel any kind of reason to save the world or help them. The karma and decission system is totally pointless. You can redeem your karma if you have done something bad already with the next decission you make - there are never any consequences you must face. Additionally switching between good and evil choices seems to confuse the dialogues a lot - they make even less sense than they already do (and they are very VERY meaningless and stupid most of the time). The game often tells you to talk whith a caracter but they don't have anything at all to say to you. Sometimes while fighting big enemies when you dodge and get too far away from them they loose interest and go away which resets their health bar (this is so annoying). The big boss fights against the world eaters are not a little bit exciting, sadly they are buggy as hell and way too scripted. Be careful the game is not able to reset you in a safe zone if you die too deep in for example a heat zone - you will get stuck in a death loop and only way to get out is loose all your progress since last manual save. The whole game especially the conquering of other tribes outposts is really repetative and if you are playing as a good guy it ends already after 2 tribes and you've got peace with everybody (even less gameplay). And not forget to mention a story is almost not existant - I don't want to spoiler but between the boss fights (the main target of the game) and the decission for the evil root there are very huge contradictions in logic. It almost feels like the game is only developed to choose a "good" tribe so it leads to the good ending - the evil way is not integrated in the story or the gameplay at all since you do the same exact tasks as if you were good even though it makes no sense. Why would I fight the world eaters (which prevents them to destroy the tree) if I am evil and want exactly this to happen??? This is really frustrating. The whole idea is creative but this isn't even a B ranked game - don't know what I spent 60€ for. There would be so much more to criticise but I want to end my review here. After 12h I finished the game, only reason I finished it is because I am so angry I spent so much money for a this crap.

I'm not saying it doesn't have its flaws, as in people not enjoying the narrator (not my case), the sound being a bit off sometimes, some bugs here and there, the transition between gameplay and cutscenes being a little harsh and a few more things. I feel like the (robust and confusing) character upgrades, armor and weapon customization, and elementals, have little impact on the game. I'm at a point where my character can literally walk around, shock everyone on screen and regain health from that. I slightly dodge, and defeat the "toughest" enemies. MyBland and repetitive. I can not stand the narration style either, the character says something in the made up language, then the narrator immediately repeats it in English. Expand

I really dislike that they cloned the giant rat hero from Guardians of the Galaxy without a license, and used it as a basis for your hero build. And that they copied pretty much everything else from other sources too. Like you see stuff and go, hey, dint I see that in NMS?
Fighting is ok, rest is mediocre, and very, very unoriginal. Doubt many bother finishing this game. A massive disappointment.

It’s definitely a game. The absolute best thing about Biomutant is the graphics, because it is beautiful. Past that it’s a pretty meh rpg. Melee is clunky and repetitive, ranged is baby mode, very few skills and abilities compared to other games in the genre, and a very boring super mode called Super Wung Fu. Like wow I now get like 4 moves but they have more knock back or deal a bit more damage, so game changing. The crafting is a little interesting but ultimately falls short due to having no way to convert or build a specific piece on top of relying on good drops for money or a weapon that you can immediately scrap for a single part. It’s an ok game, but if you like games with more substance than applesauce then you may want a different game Expand

Played it only because it was on PS+ and Im glad I didnt buy it like I wanted originally. The game has seen a ton of updates now but it is still very janky. Part of this is on me for not watching gameplay before playing it or I wouldnt have even bothered. The combat is terrible and they have kind of a "bullet time" gimmick where it will randomly slow down time during gun battle but its notPlayed it only because it was on PS+ and Im glad I didnt buy it like I wanted originally. The combat is terrible and they have kind of a "bullet time" gimmick where it will randomly slow down time during gun battle but its not fun or anything, it just straight up slows down the combat and makes it un fun. Targeting, if you can call it that, is terrible. I could go on but honestly dont even bother. I only gave it a 4/10 because its an interesting concept but even then the story is pretty bad to. Basically "save the trees, people ruined the enviroment" blah blah blah we have heard it a billion times now. Expand

For on open-world action RPG developed by a handful of people, Biomutant makes a very striking impression. It’s hard for me to imagine someone not falling in love with the beautiful, unique world conjured up by Experiment 101. Sure, the game as a whole is not perfect, but if a sequel is ever created, I’ll be the first in line to play it. [07/2021, p.38]

From creating your own character to a wide array of vehicles and a unique world, there’s a lot to love in Biomutant – which makes its shallowness all the more disappointing. The inconsistent battle system and the amount of bugs doesn’t make things any better. While the game certainly knows how to hook you, the fun doesn’t last very long.

Biomutant tries to do a lot of interesting things. It offers a potentially captivating world and unique crafting mechanics. Even the combat's fine, on the surface. The game, however, doesn't exactly play well, with clumsy controls, repetitive missions and an overemphasis on drawn-out dialogue that bores instead of inspires. This really could (and should) have been a lot better than it is.
