This game is really a masterpiece. The performance of Ellen Page, music, story, art management, director is extraordinary. Many times during the game my eyes filled with tears. These kinds of productions definitely need to proliferate. If possible, the continuation of this game should come.

А мне нравится как Кейдж рассказывает истории, и какие смыслы в них вкладывает, круто получается не всегда, но в BEYOND: TWO SOULS на мой взгляд получилось отлично.

These games interactivity blow dogs for nickels. The story was nonsensical in B2S. The game is a soup sandwhich. Just soggy, falling apart crap. Expand

I found the game emotional and I really liked it. Personally, the story line structure was not as bad as some people say. But I feel that some parts of the game could have been done better.

David Cage's next game after the success of Heavy Rain has had mixed response with good reason. I really enjoyed his games and I like this one as well. I've always been a fan of cinematic gameplay and this one has it. Ellen Page, and Willem Dafoe were great characters in this one as well.

Probably one of the best story driven games on the market next to The Last of Us. Ellen Page's performance is colorful and truly shows off how talented she is. Initially, I believed Beyond:TS was going to be a sappy melodramatic mess. It actually wasn't and was fairly action packed.

It'll take about 4-10 hours to get through the game. Which is 4-10 hours well spent!

Both Heavy Rain and this game are absolutely awesome. I preferred HR slightly more, but boy do the people at Quantic Dreams know how to make a game! All the finer details that gamers complain about of games today cannot be said of these two. Instant classics of mine that should really have rated higher by critics.

This game is like a fart !
It's almost impossible to review it as a video game as there is no real gameplay whatsoever.
    The story is utterly boring.
    The director must be blind.
    Artistic direction is just disgusting.

I'll keep it short. You will like this game if:

    - You like the premise of a ghost-like entity being attached to a girl (Jodie) and (if you choose) running freely rampant around her.
    - If you enjoy a good story. Maybe not an award-winning story, but definitely an interesting one.
    - You enjoy Quantic Dream's other games. Heavy Rain and Fahrenheit, for example.

You likely won't enjoy this game if:

    - You don't care for stories over gameplay. There IS gameplay and I liked it, but you're basically just an entity fiddling around with stuff and doing whatever you want around Jodie. You also help her out when she asks or even get in her way when you (Aiden) get jealous. Consider yourself a guardian angel more than the actual player. You'll also control Jodie, but predominantly you are Aiden.
    - You like to have a lot of choices. There are choices, obviously, and you can even choose from about four different endings, but they're short and nothing special. The choices throughout the game won't leave a significant impact. The story continues regardless, but they're fun to make. Think of them as opportunities to shape Aiden's personality a little (vengeful or forgiving, caged animal or tame entity).

This game isn't for everyone, but I will say definitively that it isn't bad. Those who rate it poorly just because it isn't their kind of game are wasting everyone's time. Ignore them and go for the facts, instead.

Unfortunately, the game and the story feel lackluster. Makes you wonder if the game's success is due to its cast rather than the story.

Chapter based storytelling in games is tricky but it has worked for other games like Telltales games. However, here it feels like there is not a very good progression between chapters. And not only in the story, but the characters as well. Crucial characters feel like they are not the same person from one chapter to another, and you don't see that progression being told.

The story itself had potential but it feels like it didn't work pretty well. Some chapters are very good, but add nothing to the main plot, which is just a damn shame, because the game is supposed to be a story-driven game. And the writing, I mean... Come on. It is not very good, in. a. story. driven. game. There are a few very well thought scenes, but there is some very cringy dialogue in this game. The writing makes the acting look bland, which we know it is not the actors bad because this is a pretty strong cast.

Regarding gameplay itself, it is mostly QTE based. Nothing wrong with QTEs, when used properly, but here sometimes no matter what you do, your actions seem pointless. There is no punishment for failing a QTE part. You can just leave your controller and the overall result does not have a lot of variation to it, with a few exceptions in some scenes. There are some interesting stealth sections, but with a disappointing chapter ending and poor writing.

DefinItely wait for a sale in the store, and good thing it comes with Heavy Rain. If you manage to get both in a good price, it's worth it. But I think that's mainly due to Heavy Rain and not Beyond.

I loved this story above all because of personal experiences, so maybe it could seem less emotional to someone else, but in the end, it is a well-written and also varied plot, you travel different countries doing always different things, you never get bored. The gameplay is quite easy, it is especially based on quick time events. The highlights in this games are the acting, the graphics, also the settings are good and above all the story which is based on the questions which anyone asks himself in his lifetime, like: What happens when you die? Is there another world? Do our deceased loved ones watch us and help us?
In conclusion, it's really an original idea and well developed. I give a 9/10 because the story is not too long, but it is intense.

And the story for this game is constructed poorly. In fact, everything else about this game (with the exception for the graphics and most of the voice acting) is constructed so poorly that they can be measured with the same parameters.

First of all, there is no message. Nothing you do actually matters until the end of the game, because Aiden
just does everything for you up to that point (i.e.: YOU CANNOT EVEN LOSE).

Second of all, it's everywhere. All of the details are just scattered so nothing connects with each other. There isn't even anything that makes me go "Wow, I really care about what is going to happen to this character", because again, Aiden takes care of everything until the end (i.e.: YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE A CHOICE OVER WHAT HAPPENS MOST OF THE TIME).

Third of all, if the game didn't rely on you to press a button on a few occasions, it would essentially play itself. That's it, that is the only actual thing you have to learn from this game: life will hold your hand and make you the most morally superior person the world has ever seen despite your terrible, braindead choices. Nothing you do actually matters, because everything will always turn out the same way. (i.e. MOST OF THE TIME, WHEN YOU DO HAVE A CHOICE, YOU DON'T ACTUALLY HAVE TO DO ANYTHING).

So aside from the graphics that are really good for the most part, everything else is really bad. It's hardly even a game for the most part, it's just a terrible movie with great visuals - it's like a payed visual tech demo. I'm giving this. . . thing. . . a 0.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Beyond: Two Souls is a well-refined, innovative art-form of a game, let down largely by its tired final third. Rather than responding to criticism of Heavy Rain (and for that matter, all of Quantic Dream's games) being little more than 'interactive movies', the developers took the idea and ran with it even further. If you liked Heavy Rain, it's likely that you'll enjoy Beyond for all the same reasons, and the same can be said for if you weren't a fan of the studio's previous attempt, as issues with fiddly controls remain, despite the generation-leap.

Nevertheless, Beyond has its own identity and for the most part it handles it well. For a game based mostly on story, it's important that the actors get their performances right, and thankfully Ellen Page, Willem Dafoe and co. prove just why they are big industry names by delivering lines from the interesting script with wonderful conviction. The story really does feel intelligently written early on, but unfortunately it seems as though the writers ran out of ideas about two thirds of the way through and decided to resort to exhausted cliches such as the love interest sacrificing himself for the protagonist just before the finale.

The game does a good job of giving you a variety of things to do, from riding a horse to piloting a submarine, besides the usual walking around. That said, the pacing also drifts off towards the end of the game, as an underwater section drags out for too long than I would have liked. I can't help but feel the if the plot was a bit more tight; perhaps a bit shorter, then the developers wouldn't have lost sight of what made the story so interesting and this could be one of the industry's claims to rival movie scriptwriting.

As I said, story is the game's primary focus but you will be asked for some input in order to keep things ticking along. The interface is well designed, opting for a minimalist look that never feels intrusive or distracting, meanwhile the slow-mo fight scenes which ask you to move an analogue stick in the direction Jodie is moving require you to pay more attention to your character rather than simply following a QTE's instructions. It's a clever move, but doesn't stop the game from using a plethora of QTE's anyway.

Beyond: Two Souls has a lot going for it. Almost every mission has multiple paths to play through, and it's always interesting to check your version against that of the rest of the world via the post-mission stats. This does encourage replayability, but Beyond could have been a lot more than what it ultimately turned out to be. With more time spent on tidying up the conclusion of the story, this could have been a masterpiece in video game storytelling, and with a refined control system to match the stellar amount of varying animations the protagonist is given, we could have had one of the most enjoyable games to play too. Instead, Beyond: Two Souls is still worth your time if you ever had a passing interest in its predecessor, but don't expect it to change your mind about the type of game it's going for.

That's 20+ years worth of experience underneath my massive library, along with 1,000+ games of good and bad in-between. And my judgement is that Beyond Two Souls isn't qualified to be considered a good video game! The Controls aren't responsive, sometimes outright refusing to work, especially when you take cover. Your character is forced to walk everywhere, even in times when you're in danger, which makes absolutely no sense. Battles consists of nothing but "Quick Time Events" and running simulators. Some animations improperly loop themselves without trimming. Every decision you make during the story barely matters due to the linear pathway it leads the player down for almost the entire game. When I completed levels, I didn't feel a sense of accomplishment, I felt like I was brain-dead, because I kept putting up with this **** hoping there will be something more. And every time those hopes & dreams attempted to come to fruition, reality would snap it right back. Beyond Two Souls might as well have been a TV show because it has no gameplay. And to make matters worse: the game will randomly crash. (It crashed on me twice)

I bought this game on the Playstation Store looking for a good story. Beyond Two Souls is a story driven game, and hearing that you're able to choose your own decisions during the game, I was on-board. But oh man! It gives you decisions... but with no weight behind them. The story for Beyond Two Souls is like taking sugar out of people's coffee, selling it to them, and hoping that no one will even notice. Some enjoy the bitter taste, but to others such as myself, it was downright nasty. When you intentionally make a story driven game, you need that depth to keep it fresh, it has to have that flavor to keep others addicted; and that is something Beyond Two Souls desperately needed.

The good things I can say about this game is that the voice acting is superb. The graphics also get a half-mark. And a lot of time was put into creating the environment, so it does get points for that. Everything else: absolute fail!! Even 2 player is an eye-sore!! Beyond Two Souls earns itself a "graphics aren't everything" label. I've played broken games that are more fun and detailed than this.

    Overall Verdict
After comparing this with some of the other bad games I've played, Beyond Two Souls earns itself additional points for effort. Unfortunately, it still doesn't reach a passing mark.

Beyond: Two Souls would've fared a lot better if it had even more visual detail, other control options and extra content to make it more like a director's cut. As it stands, though, it's a great conversion of a pretty good Quantic Dream development, mind its storytelling issues and quick-time event gameplay. Plus, it won't kill your wallet being priced for only $30. That's something even invisible deities can appreciate.
