    Beyond two souls remastered is just as good if not better than the original game thanks to chronological order it makes it so much easier to be immersed into the story of the main character Jodie.

    Great actors like Willem Dafoe and Ellen Page nail their roles perfectly the game makes you want to play it straight from start to finish without any breaks in between.

    Its nice and simple to get around each level to you never really feel lost during game play .

    After playing this game, I must say that it's fantastic. It pulls you in multiple directions, simultaneously. The acting, story telling and last but not least, the technology; all superb. I often found myself taking multiple screen shots and video clips, so I could remember the experience. Much like I've done in all of the Uncharted Games.

    To the people behind this emotional tycoon that instantly makes you reminisce your time spent in the world upon completion. I applaud you. I respect you. I urge you, bring us back to this world. I truly hope that I can revisit this landscape someday. Thank you for giving me this experience.

    Pros: Atmosphere, Story telling, Emotional Grip, Acting, Technology/Graphical Prowess, 'A true journey'

    Recommendations: Expand on the combat and make the movement for humans a bit more freelanced and fluid.

    I registered just to say that this game is awesome lol. Just like what others say that it's really better if it's in chronological order. I just have a few problems with the camera which sometimes don't want to look at things that i want to look at and I just hope they added a few game mechanics in the game rather that just pushing certain qte buttons to progress but overall the story wasI registered just to say that this game is awesome lol.     David Cage's next game after the success of Heavy Rain has had mixed response with good reason. I really enjoyed his games and I like this one as well. I've always been a fan of cinematic gameplay and this one has it. Ellen Page, and Willem Dafoe were great characters in this one as well.

Quantic Dreams not only gave us a compelling story with many branching paths and alternate endings, but also gave us interesting characters, who's voice actors and portrayals are knocked clean out of the ballBeyond: Two Souls accomplishes the ultimate goal that it's game director set out to achieve.     This game is really a masterpiece. The performance of Ellen Page, music, story, art management, director is extraordinary. Many times during the game my eyes filled with tears. These kinds of productions definitely need to proliferate. If possible, the continuation of this game should come.

    I never played it on PS3 and I went in totally blind which I'm glad I did, I knew nothing about the plot and it all unfolded in front of me. It was scary, sad, happy and moving all at the same time. Willem Dafoe and Ellen Page put in great performances which really helped push the story. The PS4 remaster sees a bump in resolution and a big jump in performance, turning in a solid 30fpsI never played it on PS3 and I went in totally blind which I'm glad I did, I knew nothing about the plot and it all unfolded in front of me.     Great story, great characters, and I didn't mind linearity like others. If you really love movies like I do then you would like the cinematic feel of this game.

    + Characters: Great characters background, great division of villians and protagonists.

    Very long time I tried to find some negatives, but I could not. Probably only negative is that B:TS was originally released on PS3 and David Cage did not before released on PS3 Detroit: Become Human. I am following David Cage work since Fahrenheit and I think B:TS is his opus magnum and no other game story he will create will be able to overcome B:TS. I think in this sense, B:TS is his curse, as it is seen on case of Detroit: Become Human which I gave only 7/10 score.
    I fully recommend this game to everyone!
    PS: Maybe I found one negative, movements of player character is a bit annoying.    … Expand

    The fact this game actually made me feel something is phenomenal. On top of the graphics. I respect the game's style as well. It's something different and refreshing in my opinion.

    Beyond Two Souls is at the same time, amazing and boring. The graphics look better than most of the games in this gen (PlayStation 4, Xbox One), the story is one of the best i've ever saw in a game but the gameplay is annoying and the options you make doesn't change the story like they did in Heavy Rain.

    Otherwise story is good, I did not like the "jumping timelines" aspect at all, it did not feel better than remixed version which is chronological. Cool game, hope to see more of it in future.    … Expand

    i dont get the Negative ratings for this game...

    it is an important game with an important Story, the theories of the game are thinkable & acceptable, all the spent emotion for this game are noticeable, ellen page was right, it was not appreciated...

    at least im happy cuz my score made the rating from 7.9 to 8 : )

    It's been 7 years and I have finally touched that masterpiece. After playing RDR2 or Witcher III , I didn't think anything could make me so touched with the story. Yes , there are some problems with repetitive gameplay and poor game design, however the story just takes in on the BEYOND level!

    Both Heavy Rain and this game are absolutely awesome. I preferred HR slightly more, but boy do the people at Quantic Dreams know how to make a game! All the finer details that gamers complain about of games today cannot be said of these two. Instant classics of mine that should really have rated higher by critics.

I still can't decide if "The Last of Us" has the best story or "Beyond: Two Souls". I think due to this story its even better than "Heavy Rain".     I played Beyond Two Souls PS4 in May 2017 and I didn't know earlier that it is sooo awesome game!!! I love it so much that it is one of the best games I have ever played! (and I play games since 1987!) Amazing graphics, incredible genius story!!! Just simply go and buy and play this game!!! The story is so great like MGS2, MGS3 great!!!     Conclusion:
    > interesting story in an alternative world where humanity makes contact with different kind of entities
    > nice action scenes in QTE style gameplay
    > high quality soundtrack (especially during action scenes)
    > next generation graphics for that era, in particular great character models (based on real actors)
    > mostly meaningless choices, sometimes they are even ignored by the next chapters (which is a very big downgrade from great branching paths in Heavy Rain)    … Expand

    This game is a masterpiece. I wasn't expecting too much, but the incredible story, JODIE, the visuals, the intuitive gameplay are so amazing, you wouldn't want to miss this! :)

    I think this remastered version is much better than the original in the aspects of timeline, game functons, graphics, etc. If you have PS4, you should play it whether you buy it or borrow it.

    Perfection. An absolutely captivating story, great development for the characters, and fun/interesting gameplay. Not to mention that it's easily one of the best looking games this generation, despite being "just a remaster." An absolute must play.

    I've played this game for a number of hours, I believe I'm close to finishing it however the shuffled order of events eliminates any educated guess for a speculative assumption. I started the game in it's native form and did not chose the chronological sequence which I now regret.     I can't call this masterpiece a game this is EXPERIENCE! Experience that is guilty to avoid one of the greatest artwork of gaming art. I'm 41 years old man and I was crying like a baby few times during this amazing story. Beyond: Two Souls is the must have piece of art for people with brains and sense.

It's particularly important for this game because it relies so heavily on the actors to tell the story.

    I liked the gameplay too. You play partly as Jodie and partly as an "entity" (ghost) that is attached to here by a ~10m long tether. Playing as the ghost was fun. You get to do all the standard poltergeist stuff, knock objects around, flicker lights, and then there's full-on possession! I felt like my choices had real impact on the flow of events across the game. One of the chapters I enjoyed most was just trying to make dinner as an inexperienced cook on a tight timetable. It was great characterization. It was something I could sympathize with.

    I enjoyed the way the concept was played out in the world. What would nations do if they had citizens with these abilities? Parents? Scientists? I think, as all good science fiction does, it asked, 'What if?' It answered the question creatively and effectively. If you like games with a heavy focus on player-choice and quick-time events, (Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit, TellTale, Life is Strange, etc.) try this out!    … Expand

I can understand how some folks might not enjoy the lack of challenge or competition, but I found the game sufficiently stimulating to make me feel like an active participant in a wonderful story set in a vibrant world and fully-stocked with absolutely fantastic acting that was a huge step up from the usualOne of the most pleasant gaming experiences I have enjoyed in a very long time.     Absolute story masterpiece. Made me cry! "Homeless" chapter is the most human videogame story i've ever played. And i actually came across a homeless pregnant lady during my Christmas break in Nevada. Extra personal for me. Absolute heart wrenching.

    This is not a game. Its an interactive quick time heavy exploration based adventure. Similar to Until Dawn.

    yeah, i decided, i'm sad and grumpy so let's throw the tomatoes first: wtf this **** camera, come on. what really pisses me off is this games being released again but the mofos don't even fix the little things from the other video-game. it's the essence of 7 slots this **** but ok, that and the kind of confusing controls, cant take away the shine of the game. especially because it's main core power making that is the story is beautiful. of course it has flaws bla bla bla, but just feel it it's cool.

    Ellen Page is superb as Jodie Holms and even the child actress that plays the young Jodie is impressive. Willem Defoe plays Nathan Dawkins a sort of surrogate father to Jodie and although he does a good job a few of his line deliveries are a little phoned in.

    The visuals have been given the 1080p beef up and overall its been cleaned up for a nicer smoother look. You get the DLC included with the game called 'Advanced Experiments' it is short but adds a little bit of value to the price. If you like Telltales games then this is easy to recommend however, if you hate interactive stories and like blasting things in the face with a shotgun for no reason other than "It's fun" then I would say stay away. Yes Heavy Rain is better but Beyond utilises better character models with superior performance capture, better looking environments and a more stable and believable cast.

No split screens but sequential cooperation (one being the girl, the other the spirit) and I honestly didn't even know Beyond Two Souls had such a mode.

    I played this game twice. I think it is a very captivating and emotional story. Actually, your decisions can influence the story, but just a little and above all in the end. There are 12 different endings.

The gameplay is quite easy, it is especially based on quick time events. The highlights in this games are the acting, the graphics, also the settings are good and above all the story which is based on the questions which anyone asks himself in his lifetime, like: What happens when you die? Is there another world? Do our deceased loved ones watch us and help us?
    In conclusion, it's really an original idea and well developed. I give a 9/10 because the story is not too long, but it is intense.    … Expand

    This is my first review in Metacritic. I feel obliged to give this game some credit, i can understand is not a game for everyone but through it all is a fantastic experience. Like being submerged in a movie, knowing every action you take is actually going to be of consequence.     Another masterpiece for PlayStation. Great story, great actors, music and probably best graphics i ever seen (considering this game is from 2013).
    Once again, a remastered game worth (like with The Last of Us or Uncharted)

    I don't give a 10 just because there is not much interactivity along the game, but actually, we knew it.

    This game is absolutely amazing. I didn't had the chane to play it on a PS3 and i'm very happy that it was released on PS4. I don't understand the low scores. How can you give a 3 or a 4 to this masterpiece??? The graphics are almost amazing and the story will make you cry, and you will cry a lot. I created a Metacritic account just to review this game.     This is my second playthrough after a year and my rate still the same. Very good game although not for everyone. This game is more focus on the plot and has much less action than most of games but it's still a good experience. I don't know. Just read some other reviews and decide if this game is meant for you or not.

Also recently finished TLofU, and although that game's mechanics are ^, weapons difficulty is ^, and much ^ gore, it had a similar grab-me-by-the-guts experience. You also help her out when she asks or even get in her way when you (Aiden) get jealous. Consider yourself a guardian angel more than the actual player. You'll also control Jodie, but predominantly you are Aiden.
    - You like to have a lot of choices. There are choices, obviously, and you can even choose from about four different endings, but they're short and nothing special. The choices throughout the game won't leave a significant impact. The story continues regardless, but they're fun to make. Think of them as opportunities to shape Aiden's personality a little (vengeful or forgiving, caged animal or tame entity).

This proves for some interesting breakout, puzzle, negotiation and sabotage sequences to be implanted. Jodie Holmes is the likeable protagonist as your live through her pain as a lab experiment. As she grows, she becomes angry and breaks out on a journey to find herself. It has several layers of metaphorical meanings to each chapter of her story, but ends with an ultimate goal that doesn't disappoint, albeit with a few cheesy moments that can be forgiven. The control is a little awkward in places but the stories of people she comes across make this a highly enjoyable game in the storytelling/point and click/narrative style game genre. There are also many touching moments which not only effect the games outcome and character endings, but questions the morals of the player as to how much control they actually have over fate. Heavy Rain's hunt for a killer is contrasted here almost as well with a 'who can you trust?' theme in Beyond: Two Souls.… Expand

But if you're into games like heavy rain/detroit or even tell tale type games this one is up your alley. *SPOILER* The story reminded me a lot of Stranger Things in many, many ways. Which was cool but also a repetitive experience in that sense. The graphicsI thought this was a really good game!     Otro juego de Quantic dream, con todas las consecuencias que esto conlleva. Personalmente, me gustó más que Heavy Rain, pero en cualquier caso, desde Fahrenheit, sigo cayendo una y otra vez en la trampa de David Cage... lógicamente, compraré "Detroit Become Human".

    Picked this game up with the Box set, had Beyond: Two Souls, Heavy Rain, and Detroit: Become Human. This was the first one I decided to play and I am so blown away by the story telling, the acting, the graphics. It is a true master piece for sure. Can not wait to get into Heavy Rain and Detroit as well. I hope they are on the same level as this game.

    I played PC version of the game, but it wasn't optimized. Well, I may say I played PS4 one.

    Good:
    - story;
    - Helen Page and other actors;
    - storyline narrative;
    - dynamics;
    - emotions.

    Minus:
    - sometimes face animation is shown wrong (strange face expressions);
    - background textures.

    Anyways I think it's a great game and I will definitely replay it.

Tutte le opere della Quantic Dream mirano a più di questo, come anche David Cage stesso ha dichiarato, perciò devono essere prese in considerazione in un certo modo senza paragonarle troppo ad altri prodotti della stessa categoria. In ogni caso, l’intero gioco sembra essere ben gestito dal punto di vista narrativo, e l’interpretazione dei personaggi da parte degli attori è di alto livello e proporzionata al loro grado di esperienza e fama. Parliamoci chiaro: nessuno acquisterebbe mai un gioco solo per la presenza di attori famosi (almeno si spera), e inoltre, mentre Beyond rappresenta l’apice negativo della software house, Detroit: Become Human rappresenta quello positivo, sebbene in quest’ultimo non fossero presenti attori di un certo spessore (ad eccezione di Jesse Williams e Clancy Brown che in ogni caso non sono paragonabili a Willem Dafoe o a Ellen Page). Questo per dire che, al contrario di come molti pensano, la presenza di personaggi famosi all’interno di giochi, film o serie TV non è garanzia di qualità. Per quanto riguarda invece il gameplay, i giocatori si sono lamentati di due cose in particolare: la sua generale povertà e la difficoltà del controllo del personaggio. Nel primo caso si tratta di una critica priva di senso, in quanto ciò che la gente intende comunemente per gameplay non può in alcun modo essere qui presente nella stessa maniera in cui lo è negli altri tipi di videogiochi. Inoltre, quando si parla di gameplay nei giochi di narrativa (non solo della Quantic Dream), le persone dimenticano o, nella maggior parte dei casi, fanno finta di dimenticare il fatto che in questi ultimi è possibile plasmare la storia a proprio piacimento attraverso un sistema di scelte (spesso anche molto complesso) in decine, se non (in certi casi) centinaia di modi diversi. QUELLO è il gameplay di questi giochi, spesso ignorato di proposito dalle persone in maniera tale da trovare un pretesto per criticare e a volte insultare un gioco che semplicemente non gli va a genio. Nel secondo caso, invece, (la difficoltà di controllo del personaggio) è semplicemente un’affermazione falsa. Probabilmente coloro che dicono una cosa del genere sono giocatori alle prime armi che stanno ancora prendendo confidenza con il controller, oppure semplicemente persone non tagliate per il suo utilizzo (persone che guardano il joystick per cercare un tasto prima di premerlo, per capirci). Un videogiocatore medio non dovrebbe avere problemi a pilotare un personaggio in Heavy Rain, Beyond o Detroit, e tutti i miei conoscenti con cui ho discusso del gioco non sono incappati in simili complicanze, indi per cui una critica tale risulta piuttosto bizzarra e ingiustificata. Un’altra critica che viene mossa è quella del costante maltempo nel corso degli eventi della trama. Questo sì, è vero, tuttavia apprezzo pienamente la scelta e non capisco come tutti coloro che vi hanno giocato possano non fare lo stesso. Quello che intendo è che, essendo l’intero gioco (anche nei momenti meno drammatici) “ricoperto” da un’atmosfera di costante malinconia e tristezza, non poteva certo essere inserito un clima solare, felice e spensierato. Il meteo è fondamentale per la caratterizzazione di momenti, ambienti e stile narrativo, e un cielo sereno e luminoso non avrebbe certo accompagnato in maniera corretta la storia, perlopiù caratterizzata da toni gravi e cupi.     I had very low expectations for this game, but I was surprised in a very positive way. I finished it in less than 72 hours, it was an interesting experience, the story is cool.

The player does have the option to play it linear but honestly I would recommend the original route. The player does have the option to play it linear but honestly I would recommend the original route. Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe are the star characters playing their roles amazingly. I'm going to put it out there and say this is Page's best role, she is honestly amazing in this. The non-linear route doesn't really have that standard story structure, however it's a great way for us to learn about the characters and build up emotional relationships with them. Story choices are a key feature in this and you decisions will impact different aspects of the story. At the end I realised that I had built up relationships with the characters wanting to spend more time with them.

    Don't expect nothing revolutionary with the gameplay as it's your standard quick time event. However, this doesn't really remove anything from the experience as this was the type of gameplay I was expecting. However, sometimes it did get frustrating. The slow motion quick time events in combat got annoying. You have to move the analog stick in the direction of the motion to block or attack. However, it would be hard to pick the direction where there was more than one motion. This often resulted in me getting injured but had an interesting impact on the story. One aspect of the gameplay I really loved was the stealth, I didn't expect gameplay like this. The action sequences did give you that adrenaline rush though, even though it was just quick time events. You know in the back of your mind that one bad move could alter the story and characters.

    The visuals looked great on the PS4, I'm unsure what they looked like on the 3 but obviously not as good. Each location you visit looks really good and highly detailed, adding to the immersion and realism. There were a few lighting glitches but you'd really need to have a sharp eye to catch them.

    I believe Hans Zimmer did the soundtrack and it was as beautiful as the visuals. The music perfectly captured the emotion, even making me tear up at a point in the story. When there was action there is music to match the scene, heightening the immersion even more.

    This is a must play game, and with it receiving a PC port you have no excuse not to. If you're looking for something fast-paced every second then this probably isn't for you. However if you're looking for a game with an amazing story, characters, visuals and music, this IS for you.    … Expand

    I found this game looking in the catalog of games that can be downloaded through my PS membership. For the most part I did not have any issues with it but it was not a perfect game.

    I'm happy to live at time when you can enjoy such a masterpiece like Beyond: Two Souls. Consider it the best game for me. I'd like to see the sequel (in apocalypse decorations for example) but not sure if creators have this in their minds. Shame that so many people found Heavy rain a cool thing but dislike Beyond.     This game is more exciting and deep than Detroit. Wish there is a sequel. The actors gave their 200%. The only downside is the clumsy control - i would replay it if its fixed

    The only major drawback of the game is the low impact of the choices on the story, but on the other hand, it has so many good features that it can be ignored.

    For me the most important feature of this remaster is the inclusion of the optional chronological mode. It makes the story a bit less flashy but way easier to comprehend. [01/2016, p.65]

    Beyond: Two Souls would've fared a lot better if it had even more visual detail, other control options and extra content to make it more like a director's cut. As it stands, though, it's a great conversion of a pretty good Quantic Dream development, mind its storytelling issues and quick-time event gameplay. Plus, it won't kill your wallet being priced for only $30. That's something even invisible deities can appreciate.
