Beyond: Two Souls

Beyond is both better and worse than its illustrious predecessor Heavy Rain. It features more varied gameplay, a better story, talented Hollywood actors and outstanding graphics... but it also lacks something: the ability to make truly decisive choices throughout the adventure. Significant changes you can make story-wise are actually concentrated at the end. However, games of this type and this quality are still too rare to deny yourself the pleasure.

The story is a little slow throughout, and it often feels like an interactive cutscene, but the graphics are good, the choices are interesting, the acting is great, and overall I feel the journey is more than worth the price of entry.

Beyond: Two Souls is back on PlayStation 4 with an enhanced graphic and the same interesting and emotional story, representing a great opportunity for those who didn’t play it two years ago on PS3.

Beyond Two Souls in PS4 offers an immersive plot and awesome graphics, but it's basically the same game of PS3. A good opportunity for those who did not play on this platform.

Beyond: Two Souls is a great interactive action-adventure game that I really should have played sooner. It does feel like you do a bit less actually playing than Quantic Dream’s other title, Heavy Rain (which I am a huge fan of), but I never got to a point that it annoyed me.

Beyond: Two Souls is still an intriguing piece of digital narrative. It has some plot flaws, but living Jodie's story in the new straight order is refreshing, and some of the improved visual effects are mesmerizing.

There's nothing really new to see here apart from a rather uninteresting DLC. So if you own it on your PS3 you don't have to by the PS4 version. On the other hand, Beyond is a great example of "cinematic gaming" that will offer newcomers a great experience.

Beyond remains a unique experience, even as the tools implemented in its creation have become commonplace. It's filled with concepts that are immediately odd and illogical, but if you accept them on their own terms, they add up to a fascinating if unconventional tale. Beyond remains an imperfect experience but is still compelling for what it accomplishes.

At the reasonable price of $29.99 CAD, Beyond is well worth picking up even with all the other triple-A fare competing for your attention and dollars this holiday.

Beyond: Two Souls is one of the most intense gaming experiences one can imagine. Simply a wonderful piece of art. It has better and worse parts than its predecessor Heavy Rain. But still, it's a must-play for every gamer out there.

Sadly this remaster of Beyond Two Souls doesn't bring much to the game. The graphics improvement is minimal, and the lack of 60 fps framerate is quite unfortunate. Beyond Two Souls stays one of the best narrative games of the last few years.

Beyond: Two Souls would've fared a lot better if it had even more visual detail, other control options and extra content to make it more like a director's cut. As it stands, though, it's a great conversion of a pretty good Quantic Dream development, mind its storytelling issues and quick-time event gameplay. Plus, it won't kill your wallet being priced for only $30. That's something even invisible deities can appreciate.

There are too many remasters and Beyond: Two Souls is conservative. It doesn't integrate many changes. However, the game by Quantic Dream can now reach lots of people who didn't have the PS3. It also incorporates interesting tools, stats of decisions, improved control and Full HD. Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe look better in 1080p.

Beyond: Two souls is an impressive as audiovisual interactive movie, but it suffers from some story weaknesses and its very simple gameplay.

Beyond has its ups and downs, and this version doesn't really improve that. The visuals get slightly better and the whole experience gets tweaked, but nothing relevant if you already played it.

Beyond: Two Souls is an emotional and amazing movie-like trip. Good if you didn't play it on PS3.

A deft remastering of what was arguably the PS3’s technical swansong, Beyond: Two Souls finds new life and an attractive home on PS4, with some extra features thrown in to sweeten the deal.

For me the most important feature of this remaster is the inclusion of the optional chronological mode. It makes the story a bit less flashy but way easier to comprehend. [01/2016, p.65]

Beyond: Two Souls is not the best work from Quantic Dream, and this edition doesn’t really add much to the game, however it could be an opportunity for all the casual players that never tried this interactive story before.

This two year old adventure looks great on PS4. And with the addition of playing the episodes in chronological order this is clearly the best version of Beyond. Nonetheless some of the old basic problems remain.

It’s still a controversial title that will divide gamers, and one that can count on some great acting. This edition, though, doesn’t really add anything worthwhile to the game. Get it only if you never played the original and are interested in experimental games mostly based on narrative.

The "modern graphic adventure genre" has been evolving at great speed in the last few months, and today Beyond feels a already a bit old. The price is just right though, and if you like the genre, you might give it a chance.

Beyond: Two Souls didn't live up to the expectations created by its huge production values. It is not a good game or a good movie and neither its resolution nor its framerate will change that. Thus, the virtue behind this new release is to appear better than it really is.

This is not a game that's worth it on PS4. It has a weak story. Only nice thing is Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe.

Ellen Page is excellent throughout and the presentation is staggering on the PS4 – it's just best to know what you're getting into before venturing headfirst into the Infraworld.

Whether choosing to play it in random or chronological order, neither of these options make it a compelling story.

Even in this remaster, Beyond still offers shallow gameplay and a storyline that simply does not excite us. No matter how you look at it (from a movie or a game perspective), this is a big fail.
