Beyond Eyes is a third person linear game in which you control a young girl looking for her cat. I won't comment on the story, because that would mean there actually is one. You complete levels by walking through them, and since the girl is blind, you have to uncover levels as you walk, giving the feeling of blindness. This is an interesting mechanic, but wears thin after the first level.Beyond Eyes is a third person linear game in which you control a young girl looking for her cat. Overall, there aren't very many good qualities about the game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Beyond Eyes is a very cool idea for a game. The idea that you can't actually see what is going on around you and where you are going is fantastic, and I love that you discover everything around might not actually look anything like she is imagining it. Despite the great idea and fantastic art direction the game fell quite a bit short for me. I definitely enjoyed playing through it, and anyone who enjoys games in the same vein as Journey or The Unfinished Swan should give this game a try, but when I heard the game announcement way back when I was expecting a bit more than what was delivered. The controls were quite wonky, as everytime you run into somehting (which happens a lot) the game is quite unresponsive to your change in direction. Also, I get the game is meant to be slow-paced as she is blind, but the game feels brutally slow, and since you can't see more than right in front of you, and there is no directional cues beyond the path on the ground, I found myself going the wrong way and having to slowly trot around until I finally found the right way. Nonetheless, I did enjoy the game despite it's short comings.

I expected more from this one. It started in a very interesting way; you play as a blind little girl, who tries to find her missing cat. The game starts from a scratch, white screen and you start discovering the world by slowly moving around and by following the sounds. However, Beyond Eyes deliveres a short and predictable story that felt as if developers had a lack of ideas.

This is a good game. It is not as good as some other art games, but it is definitely worth playing. I see many of the negative reviews saying the story is too basic. It is true that the story isn't that complex, but that's not the point of the game. The game is more focused on art than narrative. Think of it like a painting that you play through. Ele te mostra o desespero de como é ser cego e faz isso de uma forma que eu consigo ver que não vai agradar todo mundo.

The game could learn from its pint-sized protagonist. [Dec 2015, p.91]

Despite the fact that the game is only two or three hours long (depending on how lost a player gets) I found it to be absolutely unbearable. I became so bored with the lack of interesting things to see and do that I literally put a rubber band on my controller's left stick to keep her moving for long stretches of time, which gives an idea of how interactive Beyond Eyes is. I badly wanted to quit after the first thirty minutes, but I was determined to see where the story was going. Naturally, the ending was a total non-event and not worth the time and aggravation.

The idea was great, but Beyond Eyes can't really convey feelings or even narrate a decent and concrete story. Quite sad, considering its potential.
