If i had reviewed this game before the january update, i would probably have given it a 6. But 60 fps makes all the difference. Fun game, and now it looks and plays great, too. They really should have optimized it before release, its unlikely many people who gave up on it are going to give it another chance.

Superb game, has a better quality sheen than Overwatch and Overwatch's superior version Paladins. Bravo Gearbox Studios, a game that will be remembered forever, known as the Overwatch killer, showing that a market for games better than Overwatch exists. Great characters, diverse cast (unlike Overwatch's poor oversexualized female figures) and the lore is exquisite.

This game is awesome especially on split screen! Currently most of new games doesn't have split screen feature - in my opinion it's great feature!

Heroes are well designed and I really enjoy playing with them and create combos / better setups with my girlfriend.

If you buy the game expecting Overwatch, Borderlands, or anything else, you're going to have a bad time. This is honestly one of the most unique and compelling games I have played in the last decade. It has an appealing blend of unique gameplay and characters that keep me coming back.
Those complaining about the graphics simply don't understand the art style.
I will admit that the game may have some minor issues at the moment, but what you need to understand is that this is a LIVING game. Weekly hotfixes, monthly patches, and free DLC's being released regularly with new games modes and characters.
Albeit the game is discouraging to new users with the lack of proper tutorials and guidance, but the devs are very involved with the community forums and are working to constantly make the game more fun.
Best advice I can give you is hang in there! If you find yourself lost constantly or struggling to accomplish anything online, simply youtube or visit /r/battleborn on Reddit and learn a little more about the game. Also, finding the right hero to main may be part of the issue. It's all about finding someone you just click with and suits your personal play style.

TL;DR - Don't be discouraged. There's a hero and game mode for everyone, and if something isn't clicking with you try to research the game a little more. Once you have the hang of it, the game is truly fun and addicting. Happy hunting!

The one thing that's nice with mixed reviews, is that Gearbox is adapting to the pressure. They've dropped the price (I paid $60, I'm not bitter) have performed numerous hotfixes, and have already released one character. I would like to see a better rank system and penalties for quitting.

Being different and trying out something new and refreshing is risky and the creators of Borderlands sadly failed to attract alot of gamers. One of the main reason is the game being compared to an other game (looks similiar to newcommers, but is totally different in reality) called Overwatch.

The game Battleborn is trying to blend First Person Shooter with MOBA's like SMITE and they did well in my opinion. The game has 25 characters(5 being free DLC characters) with each of the characters being different. The game offers COOP Story mode(Loot will carry over to PvP) and 3 PvP modes called:
    - Incursion: Destroy the 2 sentries from the opponents with your team, while defending your own.
    - Meltdown: Escort your minions to their objective, while preventing the opponent's minions to reach their objective
    - Capture: Typical capture and defend game mode alot of FPS has.

The reason why I like this game is because of the freedom in personalizing the hero you're playing combat-wise and the support of the developers. You've alot of freedom to personalize your own hero. Increasing the attributes of the heroes with different loadouts and changing their abilities during combat.
The support is also great with a DLC character already being play-able. Also they already changed the map lay-out, since some people played with unfair advantages.

I also like the complexity of this game compared to your other FPS. You need to incl. alot of different things like managing your economy, building turrents, buying gears, recruiting mercs, etc.

So to summarize it. Battleborn is underappreciate for what's trying to do and is being compared with the wrong games. It's a complex game with freedom and great support. The complexity is something not everyone will like. So do you like a complex, yet fun First Person Shooter? If so, Battleborn will most likely be a game you would want to try out. If you know someone who has Battleborn, try it out with him/her by playing Coop story to feel if you like the settings, characters, etc.

If you're tired of the old chase around death match, this brings another level of co-op and intensity to the game due to all the different things you can do and being able to customize your character differently every match! The moba aspects aren't overwhelming at all unless you play the meltdown mode, where you follow minions to try and lead them to the other goal, or defend your goal. All in all though, it plays very easily, you just have actual goals instead of blind killing. Theres so much store and lore with an amazing raid-like campaign that I've already played through a good couple times! The characters are so interesting and you can unlock more of their backstory through completing certain challenges. It's been a blast and I highly recommend it. It's definitely more enjoyable with friends, but don't fear because it was super easy to make and add new friends due to the integrated steam friend list! Don't be afraid to dust off that mic and talk! The motto is fight together or die alone and they mean it! It's about playing your role right! Expand

The depth in character builds coupled with the loot systems provides incredible variety and replayability. Everything to unlock happens through playing the game. I really enjoying unlocking the Lore for each character, especially because you do that through completing specific challenges. The game modes are innovative variations of MOBA and FPS styles. The key word is "innovative", as you won't find this style of game mode with this type of gameplay anywhere else. I've already put in over 100 hours of gameplay, and haven't even begun to master more than about 4 characters. There is a lot of depth to each one, and that's where the PvE components greatly assist in learning and improving each character's skills and style. The game controls map perfectly to consoles, at least for the Xbox One. Finally, the characters and their comments, as well as the comments from NPCs in game, make me lol, even after 100 hours of play. Most recently I was working toward an achievement and had to play El Dragon for the first time. I was having a rough game trying to learn his moves, and after respawning and feeling somewhat frustrated, the character starts shouting his own name in a long, drawn-out, voice-cracking singing voice. It couldn't help but make me laugh and remind me not to take this game and this match too seriously.
This game is definitely worth your attention. The steepest barrier to gameplay is probably learning the MOBA-style patience of when to focus on objectives vs enemy players. If you can focus on learning not to simply suicide into the enemy team, you'll find matches to be much more intense and fun.

An unfortunate and unappreciated game, born at the wrong moment and compared with the wrong games is what I would describe Battleborn. Before I start this review, I will mention 2 things:

    1) If you like simple games, u won't like Battleborn
    2) if you like complex games, u may like Battleborn
EDIT: Not saying simple is bad. It all comes down to preferences.

You can still read this review if you've chosen nr.1 ofcourse. So let me start it now.

    The positives:

    - This game has a COOP story mode and PvP modes:
I personally like this, because you will have the choice to switch between brainless shooting AI's or go into a more competitive PvP mode. Sometimes, you want to do something brainless and sometimes you want to play competitively. In Battleborn, you have the option to do both, depending on the mood you are in.
EDIT: This isn't special at all, but some people think this is Pvp-only like alot of similiar games these days.

Negative: Story isn't really impressive, so this can be a negative for people who really likes story modes for the great story telling. Battleborn is a Pvp focussed game.

    - Personalize your own hero:
This is something I like. I like the option to make your own hero more unique to how you play it yourself. I won't go into too much detail, because you can write an essay about this. The game has a lvl-ing system similiar towards a MOBA. You level your hero during the match by killing mobs, building support/healing items or offensive turrets, killing other heroes or assisting heroes and it will reset when you start a new game. The reason why I like this is because you can accustom your hero to how you play or to how your opponents play.
You also have a loadout slot, which makes your hero even more personal. You equip 3 items earned from loot crates or the story missions and activate it by spending currencies you recieves during the match by breaking crystals or killing the enemies. A higher/stronger gear will cost more compared to a low tier gear, meaning you need to grind more currencies to activate it. So it's up to you to play slow at the start to gather currencies, pay less attention to the currencies and focus more on pushing the enemies or doing both.

    - It's not just killing opponet's heroes:
Beside killing opponents heroes, building support/healing/offensive items/weapons, recruiting mercenary, supporting heroes and preventing the enemies to have an high economy is also really important. Meaning, it's a complex game, because you need to focus on alot of things beside killing things, hence the next point is really important.

    - Teamplay is really important in this game:
Each heroes has their own specialty like: Attacker, defender, supporter and healer. So it's pretty important to pick the hero you're going to play this game, because you can't change your character during the game. This mean, if you pick an Attacker, you will always be an attacker. Hence the teamplay and communication is really important in this game. Also, beside the main rolls of each hero, it's also smart to have sub rolls like preventing enemies to get high economy, building alot of support/healing items or weapons, recruiting mercs. This is something I really enjoy, since I like these kind of games where you need to be tacticall.

    - Decent/long longevity(depending how you play and how much play the game):
This will be short, since it's pretty basic but good. You unlock different loots, skins, taunts, lores and heroes as you keep playing overall, with certain heroes or finishing certain challenges.

    - The support is great in this game:
The developers behind this game works pretty fast compared to the other games games. A new hero is already playable yesterday with the next hero already being revealed. Also, they fixxed the map pretty fast when people had unfair advantages.

    Negatives:
    - There aren't alot of interesting PvP modes in my opinion. I will just list the 3 modes and you can decide which sounds interesting and which not. I will only list my favorite to keep it short.
You will get 3 Pvp-modes in the game.
    1) Incursion: This is personally my favorite mode. Your objective is to take down the 2 sentries from the opponents while also defending your own 2 sentries. Alot of things happens in this mode and teamplay is really important here.
    2) Meltdown: Your objective is to escort your minions to their objective, while preventing the minions of the enemies to reach their objective.
    3) Capture: This is basicly the capture and control modes alot of games has.

    - The Pvp-modes doesn't have alot of maps:
You've 2 maps for each Pvp-mode. Meaning a total of 6(I can do math) , but you will play alot of the same maps each modes.

Overall, it's a good game with its issues. I hope you understand why I scored this an 8 and I hope this review will help you. In the end, it's up to you to decide and I hope you will enjoy this game if you're buying this or already enjoying it, but wanted to know other's opinion

I think it is better to start with the campaign so you can get to know how the game and characters work.
The multiplayer has not so much different content yet but they will release more. For now it has three different modes and six different stages.
And you can play the campaign solo or co-op.
You can also level up your characters with different augmentations and there are multiple skins per character to unlock. I have the game from day one and i am still playing and having fun.

If you liked Smite but wanted to play splitscreen with a similar but faster gameplay mode like "Arena" then Battleborn's Meltdown will be for you. It has a unique art style wont age as hard as realistic graphics do and some awesome cutscenes (although admittedly should have the option to be skipped). The unique character based dialogue is awesome and the lore is really interesting and gives you something from playing your favourite characters (although some is locked behind really difficult or specific challenges). If you like MOBAs or you like games with customisable strategy (with gear and helix upgrade choices to affect your characters skills) and high skill ceilings then you'll probably enjoy this game. The storyline gameplay reminds me of WoW raids which is interesting although the storyline can suffer because of this, even with the three prequel episodes. Another thing which has made me excited about this game is the high interaction the developer team has had with the community both on the gearbox forums and reddit, they work on weekly hotfixes and patches to help make the game best for the players, something I have not seen in many other games.

    Pros
    Fast paced MOBA-like gameplay
    Splitscreen
    Character levelling and gear customisation
    Fun graphics
    Cool cutscene
    Strategic gameplay
    MMO raid style storyline
    Hotfixes weekly

    Cons
Due to the ELO system until you have a good amount of matches under your belt matchmaking can be imbalanced (currently being worked on)
Storyline is currently a bit weak (could use a larger web series or comic to flesh it out a bit more)

Then again with player 2´s user to unlock the first 5 characters for both players. Then i played the first mission coop and notice that the split screen was not full screen. It had a STUPID bar to the left with 1 radar for each player. Sooo the screen was so small and i could not read anything that was on the screen. for example when you level up, it is tiny texts that you HAVE to read in real time when your enemies almost have you killed. We played for 50 minutes and it was really late. I quit the mission and had not the slightest that it had not saved. I thought i would, because borderlands saves when you quit the game. But this game did not save. So i had to start from the beginning!! again!! I choose this time to play the first mission with 3 other strangers online with us. It was soo much fun! You have to rethink this game. it is not like borderlands at all. This is all about coop, helping and supporting and think what is best to do in the moment. This is not a ordinary shooter. The story mode is like an old Arcade game. you only have 5 lives through the missions, and if you die, you have to start over. I love it. I fixed the small text issue(moved the sofa closer the tv) Expand

This is a totally unique fps moba experience and totally worth your time to learn. That is most likely the main drawback that this game does a bad job of teaching you the pvp modes and how to play them correctly. Once you get it though no other fps will feel as refreshing and fun as this. I love overwatch also but it is not a moba in any sense. I am myself not a fanboy of either because I like the both for what they are. Battleborn, Moba with a ton of depth, long strategic battles, story mode and high skill ceiling. Overwatch, fps hero shooter, easy to pick up and play, hard to master for a few heroes only, fast paced and polished. Expand

I believe not enough people are giving this game a chance. It's very unique and underrated. If you don't like the style of the game, that doesn't mean you should give it a low score. I don't care much for the style of Dragon Ball Z, but I'm not about to go give it a crappy review based on the art style. I'm sure a lot of people enjoy it because that also is a unique gaming experience. AllI believe not enough people are giving this game a chance. It's very unique and underrated. I am surprised by how much I ended up liking playing this game, do not make the mistake of comparing it to Overwatch, they are very different games. Play before you judge.

We wish the story had a stronger narrative, the online restrictions weren’t so frustrating, and the humor had more variety. But the diversity in everyone’s abilities and playstyles should be enough to keep the light of this last star shining for dedicated Gearbox fans.

Somewhere in the confusion of half-baked genres, messy visuals and flawed design are some great features. Battleborn does itself no favours trying to convey them. For the persistent only. [July 2016, p.92]

Disarray is perhaps the best way to sum up Battleborn. [July 2016, p.108]
