Something I've seen lot on some sites is that there isn't a lot new about this entry and that's just not true. Allow me to list what's new in AoT 2:

New additions include: a 'what-if' story that allows you to make your own character and play through season 1, season 2 + a secret chapter, multiplayer (finally), lots of new and interesting weapons, a ton of new unlockable playable

New additions include: a 'what-if' story that allows you to make your own character and play through season 1, season 2 + a secret chapter, multiplayer (finally), lots of new and interesting weapons, a ton of new unlockable playable characters (over 20 new), vastly improved UI, a few new special titans, an even better and more streamlined ODM system, new flashy attacks like the scoped sneak attack and air jump attack, a suite of new missions, season 1 cutscenes have been redone to match the anime 1:1, a lot new costumes (DLC and in-game), the friend and skill systems, base building and upgrading bases, Another Mode in which you can play as and level up your favorite characters from the series, graphics that recreate the feel of the anime, and an overhauled mission system.

All of this is apparent within the first hour of playing. Really recommended for fans of anime or those who are looking to get into it. AoT2 packs plenty of new stuff whether this is your jumping in point or if you were left wanting more after the first game-- and it all runs beautifully on whatever version you choose be it a PS4, an XB1, or even on PC.

Game is amazing. Way better than the first. If you like the anime it is a must buy PERIOD. All these children giving low scores are just cod players.

Anyone saying there is nothing new here is an idiot or liar. I guarantee they didn't finish the game. This game goes over the first season just like the last game then covers all of the second season.

This is a huge improvement on the last game with custom character creation and less repetitive combat. Although I wish we weren't just following the plot of the original anime.

The way you play through season 1 and 2 is great, like watching the story unfold from your own perspective, this game doesn't get the attention it deserves

Very good game especially being based off an anime! Graphics are very nice and live up to the show! Gameplay is what you expect, it's the same thing over and over but if it was anything else it would defeat the purpose! I would really like to play as a Titan as well as a scout on a third entry!

A good game for the fans of the Attack on Titan manga. And it is much better than the first game.

Firstly lets start out with the flaws, the story is a very poor rendition of the animes, the character episodes in between missions are really boring, and the rpg elements in the game feel completly worthless. So far, it's my favorite game and after 4 years I can't get enough of playing it.
There's so much content and it's almost infinite and the story mode is pretty immersive. The graphics is ok and the battle gameplay feels like being part of the anime. This second DLC adds a lot more to the base game and it makes it even more better.

Excellent fighting, but not great at anything beyond the core hack, slash, and gas-powered aerial maneuvering. [May 2018, p.76]

Ultimately, there’s no argument that this is the best game adaptation the franchise has seen, and it’s an undeniable improvement over its predecessor. However, the amount of rehashed material might be galling to players who want new content — those who’ll be happy with simply killing titans in a more polished fashion are the ideal audience here.

Attack on Titan 2 is an interesting sequel as it chooses to retell the anime's story from the beginning and reuses a whole lot of assets and maps that existed in the previous game. While several smaller features have been added, it sometimes lacks originality. Fortunately, the core Titan combat is as satisfying and addictive as ever.
