Ubisoft really need to take more time to FINISH their games before they release them. Scheduled yearly releases don't work, especially with games getting more complex.

Second, game is very casual. I thought, after ACIII which was ok and horrible Black Swag Ubi will think again about NPC's AI and Fighting System. Yeah, Fighting system become so much better, but anyways mechanics are too easy. Arno leaps better and faster than even spider-man. Do you really think it's interesting?

Also, the opporunity to change my outfit. gear and upgrade skills in every moment just from main menu. What is it? I loved so much, when my free roam was justified by many sorts of different activities and desire to change my outfit in Auditore Villa as well.

Now, you could customise your character just from menu. Do you really thing it's interesting?

Well, Ubi made a big step with crafting and economics in ACIII. Where is it on so-called NEXT-GEN ASSASSIN? Of course, Ubi, nobody needs it... *sarcasm*

    - WHY YOU CALLED IT UNITY BUT THE ONLY ASSASSINS I COULD CALL FOR ARE MY PSN FRIENDS?

Ubi made a lot of big steps, developing recruits in ACB, ACR, ACIII, which was really interesting to use. Why on Eath you canceled these tactic function?

The game is WAY TOO CASUAL and seems is made to satisfy every layer of gaming society : idiots, kids, casuals, e t.c.

Stop it Ubisoft. And, While you made a really casual, easy game where you almost don't need to do anything but leap like a spidey and "PRESS X TO WIN" - you make Sony community play horrible Xbone port, which has disgusting quality and really bad graphics for PS4 hardware.

Because of that my Score is 5.

The setting is really interesting. I like Arno so much. I love how you made Paris. Generally Unity is atmospheric. Very Big plus for lots of side activities.

But the Game is WAY TO CASUAL. Ubisoft deleted almost every cool aspect of previous games. No recruits, no crafting, almost no economics, no armories. Everything is WAY TOO SIPMLIFIED, that I don't feel pleasure while gaming process.

Modern time in game is the same boring s*$#t as it was in Black Swag.

And Finally I paid for disgusting Xbone Port with it's horrible graphics.

I hope, it would be a good lesson for Ubisoft. Why can't they just make game a litlle bit more hardcore, give us more opportunities and tips.

the game is okay but if UBISOFT not going to fix the issues i'm gonna trade it for another game tbh bugs and glitches ruined the gameplay for me.

Next Time UBISOFT release the game when you are certain that it works and optimize your games for God's Sake.

Monotonous missions. Boring so much that they make you want to sleep. An interesting beginning slides further into a greasy grind. Apart from the graphics and beautifully recreated Paris, there is nothing else in this game.

However, in its current state, aside from a few sticky control issues, it is perfectly playable and also sufficiently enjoyable. Graphically its impressive, and the hundreds of on screen NPC's at a single time is particularly splendid. The combat can at times be weak, yet I've never enjoyed combat in previous iterations, however in this particular game it can be slightly more punishing, and the preferable method is to assassinate and run, arguable what the franchise is about. The side missions can be entertaining, although a tendency to mindlessly complete them without really considering their story is commonplace and perhaps due to the irrelevance of many of them. The murder mysteries can be quite entertaining also, yet often they drag on with investigation zones miles apart. Similarly, the main assassination missions have been revamped, with numerous entries and side missions that can affect the nature of the assassination, interesting but not revolutionary. Overall, a year on this is a fairly standard AC game, with clunkier controls, yet certainly a more interesting and detailed setting and environment that other iterations. Probably worth a rental if you're particularly interesting in the series. Expand

The game-play and controls are usually where most the frustration comes from playing these games and sadly not to much has changed. Over and Over I found myself dying/frustrated when I wouldn't clime a wall or jump through a window. Other things like the cover system suffer the same problem. Sadly the game is infested with bugs as well, even after an update that reportedly fixed 300+ Bugs.
One of the new additions in Unity is the Co-Op Missions, they range from 2-4 player and reward you with new gear and are usually are slightly more difficult. Sadly most the time I disconnected from my group but the ones I did complete where very fun. The most original thing the game does is take to you different eras of time and you do missions on the Eiffel Tower and other historical parts of Paris.
Overall I feel like Assassin's Creed Unity is wasted potential, Good ideas but poor execution. I hope they keep heading in this direction with the series but work on there bug fixes and creativity.

"Joking aside, the graphics, mission structure, co-op focus, and other implementations make this game a step backwards from AC4."

Are you serious? This IS Assassin's Creed, not a naval simulator. I'm thankful that Unity took a step back from ACIV's gameplay. ACIV just felt like a third person Call Of Duty. 1 v 10? Not a problem in ACIV, as you can chain kills with the overpowered counter-kill system. Is that the essence of an assassin? Mowing and plowing down everyone in your way?

Unity felt like a step back to the original Assassin's Creed games, especially to AC1, where there is no counter kill at all, all for a good reason. Mowing and plowing down everyone in your way is fun, but it gets boring after awhile. It also takes away the necessity to buy better equipments *cough* microtransactions *cough* (actually, in ACU you could farm for the items yourself without the microtransactions, pretty easy actually, just complete all Cafe Theatre renovations and missions and purchase all Social Clubs, ta-da! 10,000 livres per 15 minutes, although some are locked until you play Club Competition)

From the stealth perspective, the cover mechanic is a welcome, although unnecessary, addition to the game. The stealth mode (L2 button) introduced into the game is also a great addition to the game, as it enhances stealth playstyles greatly and adds a new dimension to the game.

Ranged-weapon mechanics is a bit of a pain in the a** though. Rifles and pistols have the same range and accuracy. Seriously? The aiming mode is quite buggy too.

The problem with ACU is that you can BARELY Assassinate mission targets that are incapacitated inside smoke bombs if you are already inside a conflict. The targeting system is a bit of a mess imo.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with the gameplay, although some elements can be better implemented *cough* less glitchy *cough*.

I do agree on the graphics being subpar though. They were great during the first few missions, but then they went to crap as the missions progressed. And don't mention the clippings. They're EVERYWHERE (trivia: the epidemic begun from AC Brotherhood). Even in cutscenes. Seriously Ubisoft? At least you can make sure that none of the hoods (I'm looking at you, Legendary Phantom Hood) clip Arno's face so innocenly in one of the most important cutscenes of your game (including the last mission).

The parkour and controls are both good and bad. The good thing is that parkour from high buildings is much easier now as you don't have to slowly climb down a building if you can't find a haystack. This makes ALL the difference. The bad thing is that the "Controlled Descent" system is glitchy. Sometimes Arno would clip inside a wall when descending and clip out again for a brief moment. Overall though, I think the revamped parkour system is a very welcome addition to the franchise, provided that you don't mind playing spidey.

However, the game felt EXTREMELY unpolished. The tutorials are incomplete, the "Database" doesn't have much information (trivia: they have grammatical errors! such a polished game!)

Hell, the e-manual doesn't even tell you how to reload your pistols! I had to spam my DualShock to figure it out (hint: it's L3).

Moving on to the co-op system. As a YouTube user described it:
    "DISCLAIMER:
This trailer is HEAVILY SCRIPTED and does not depict the reality of co-op with your dumbass friends."

The co-op system though, is fairly solid. Even when I played with a guy from UK (I'm in SEA), the co-op session felt lag-less and it was a very fun experience.

And yes, before you ask, the FPS is choppy. Not as choppy people seemed to led me to believe though (20-30 FPS, I thought it was like 10 or 5). Personally, it's a minor problem compared to the other problems.

The story, on the other hand, has potential. But it's just way too compressed. It's basically Assassin's Creed Simulator. Remember how Ezio got 3 titles dedicated just for him (4 if you count Embers). Now imagine those 3 titles are condensed into 1 title. A disaster. An over-compressed piece of junk. Arno went from a womanizer into a homicidal assassin imbued with spidey-abilities bent on revenge in, what, several hours? Main characters has A LOT OF POTENTIALS, but Ubisoft deems it necessary to kill them off in a few missions after they were introduced. The missions are basically "Kill Target A". Done. Hell, the First Civilization became a minor footnote/reference in this title! Where's the conspiracies we AC fans love?

I don't usually appreciate stories being dragged out, but I feel that this story needs to be dragged out. Let us enjoy the appetizer before proceeding to the main course. Hell, you could make even more money than micro-transaction!

Overall, a dirty-ass impure diamond-ore that has not been refined into actual diamond. It's dirty, it's muddy, but when you look at the potentials of it, you'll be astounded as to why Ubisoft rushed its refinement

It's just another revenge romp through revolutionary Paris. As with AC: 3 it was a let down. I've learned not to get excited for these games because they end up being good but not great. If they would of put more love into the story, make Robespierre more of a villain, and make you feel like your really changing the country then it would of been amazing.

The assassination missions where you choose the way you want to infiltrate and take out your target was a nice touch, as well as the murder mysteries. The game had it's moments but at the end of the day it was the 4th or 5th best assassins creed (having not played rogue) but it could of been the best. They really need to focus more on the story. I feel like every year they fail to capitalize on the history that surrounds these settings.

While it is a good game it isn't anywhere near great. If your gonna buy one game this year this shouldn't be it. Hell, if your gonna buy 5 games this year I'm not sure I can say this should be one of them.

Ubisoft put more love into this series. It has the potential to be the best game every year but you keep giving us generic stories and mediocre mechanics.

ACIV was excellent and I had high hopes for Unity, I was severely disappointed. There are a lot of positive and awesome things this game does, yet a lot of faults exist too.

    Pros:
    1. So much to do (quests, murder mysteries, collect gear, etc)
    2. Good quality texture and lightning
    3. Decent companion throughout the game (Elise) and main character isn't heritable
    4. Character customization, lot of equipment to choose from
    5. Downward movement mechanic (Overrated though)
    6. Entering buildings all over the map through windows almost seamlessly
    7. Set piece assassinations, really great having to think and plan an assassination
    8. Huge map with excellent locations perfect for set piece assassinations

    Cons
    1. So much to do that none of the side quests offer anything significant. It's overwhelming and clutters your map. They don't tie into the story, don't offer anything other than a mission to do, which is fine, but all it did was trigger OCD for me.
    2. Whatever the textures and lighting were doing, be prepared to have it destroyed by awful framerate
    3. Glitches everywhere
    4. Terrible combat (Due to terrible controls), missing a lot of combat features from previous games that would have helped. Anyone with a gun in group combat is going to raise your blood pressure due to frustration with the dodge ability. Nothing new, missing old, terrible choice.
    5. Controls are awful, it's like your covered in superglue whenever you run. Even wide spaces need careful running as you can easily climb a chair or random wall.
    6. Glitches
    7. Glitches
    8. Skills customization (Most of these aren't even skills, they're just things assassins in previous games do by default like ROLLING after a fall). You miss out on a lot of skills if you don't play coop to get skill points, and they affect your single player missions. Which really sucks because you're not given new abilities and you miss out on old useful ones too.
    9. Boring final boss mission
    10. Story sucks, revenge plot (that's essentially it), no memorable cast at all
    11. Bad controls (Needs to be said twice)
    12. Enemies can be insanely difficult at times due to awful controls, I did not enjoy the combat at all, and I usually love AC combat, in that regard, weird difficulty spikes

All in all, the people at UBI put effort, and it shows, but they aimed for the stars and failed, rather than delivering a nice cheeseburger, they overcooked a steak to the point of it being barely edible. And you can't blame them, the company demands yearly games (2 this year) with huge scope.

This series needs to go back to basics, get tighter controls, adopt a less is more approach.

Worth it for $20, especially since you get dead kings DLC for free.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I didn't buy this game at launch, so many of the glitches had been patched by the time I got to play the game. I guess the glitches are the main reason, why this game's ratings are terrible.

There were still couple of bugs when I played this, but nothing game breaking. The gameplay is a hit and miss. Climbing mechanics are one of the worst of the series. The "controlled descending" was nice, but rest of it was bad. The combat system is pretty average. It is more unforgiving than in the previous games and for the first time in AC series I actually had to avoid combat, since the opponents were too tough. Good for you Ubisoft!

The "memories" or missions were also different from the previous games and to be honest, the freedom of how to kill your targets was a fresh way to change the gameplay. Main missions were good, but I couldn't bother with the side quests. They were too repetitive.

The story was pretty good up until the ending. Arno's and Elise's relationship was great and it really kept me playing through the story quickly. But then the ending was completely predictable and lame. Dark and gritty endings can be good, but not when they are done like this. Around halfway point of the game I already knew that Elise was going to die. If Elise would have lived, then that would have been a surprise ending and a very pleasant one! But now the ending just left a bitter taste in my mouth.

With slightly better mechanics, fewer glitches and with a different ending, this game really would have been a masterpiece...

With Unity, you will be able to enjoy a wonderful rendition of Paris. My wife and I spend the honeymoon there and I was quite excited to see Cluny, Saint Etienne, Saint Eustache du Mont and many others in game. This was made possible due to some noticeably upgraded graphics compared to Black Flag, which was good looking itself. So, a big plus here, because we can stop pretending that graphics don’t matter and admit it is so. Else, we wouldn’t sink thousands of euros in the latest ATI’s and NVidia products. So let’s be honest here and appreciate Unity for what is has to offer in this aspect.
The story taking place in such a beautifully rendered environment is not top notch, but is not bad either. Short and with a twist. I enjoyed it, but I was left wanting for more.
As I said, the story is short, but the game has lots to offer in terms of side missions, some of them quite “nouveau” like the CSI investigation missions. There is plenty to do in the game if you are an avid achiever and like 100% game completion.
The stealth was a bit changed, with the introduction of a line of sight mechanic. You can now sneak past guards noses, if you are crouching behind a table or anything to break their LOS, giving you more freedom to finish a mission stealthily.
    The minus:
What made the AC franchise really popular was its parkour element. It is with sadness that I announce that after AC, AC2, ACB, ACR, AC3 and ACBF the long and trialed parkour system was overhauled. To the worst. For the sake of innovation. Now, the parkour was reduced to “press a button and …parkour”.
Such a thing in itself it is not a bad thing, but remember Black Flag, only before Unity, when you were high speeding on the rooftops of Havana and decided to change direction midcourse and assassinate a target of opportunity below you? It was the pinnacle of the previous five games being refined year by year (almost) to get you the bet freedom of movement/action possible. Forget it now. Your character will continue its path, oblivious to your commands to stop, jump and kill. The result of such a command would now randomly be:
    - Keep running on a predefined path.
    - Stop.
    - Stop and immediately go some random direction regardless of the direction you commanded.
    - Run to the nearest ledge and get stuck on it, in plain sight, and be noted by your target.
    - Jump to assassinate, but fell short of your target and enter combat.
    - Jump and assassinate an ally, who has just engaged your intended target.
In terms of combat, all previous AC has a similar combat system: enter combat, wait to be attacked, perform a counter attack and insta-kill your target (a bit less so in ACBF), then rinse and repeat. This has to be change to something better, to feel combat like and more engaging. The good news is that it has changed in Unity. That is all the good news. The combat was changed to this succession of events:
    - Enter combat.
    - Attack you target.
    - See your target attacking you back.
    - Press the button to parry (same as before but…different. I bet you read that in James Franco’s voice).
    - Even though you parried at the exact time as dutifully instructed by creative director Alex Amancio in his in game linked tutorials, fail to parry and get hit badly, even by the weakest adversaries.
    - Shake your head in disbelief and try to parry again, this time with more care.
    - Realize it is not your timing that fails to parry, that it is the game that doesn’t do it. Despite you doing the exact same thing each time, sometime the game acts, sometimes it doesn’t. Be lucky.
    - Keep trying to parry or dodge. Yes, dodge is an option now, but it is just as well implemented as parry. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
    - Watch your camera setting itself at an impossible angle and admire the wall that just popped in front of you, and see nothing of the combat around you.
    - As the camera resets itself on a better angle, watch your character getting shot before you could dodge (provided dodge would have worked) because you couldn’t see the enemy targeting you.
    - Get lucky and see the enemy targeting you, rush towards it, try to dodge his bullet, only to see your character climbing a nearby fence/barrel/junk pile and get stuck on it, no matter what gods or devils you invoke to get him down.
Finally, the game also features a coop multiplayer feature. Good thing, too. The bad thing? The game is 3 years old now and the player base is tiny. You won't have much opportunities to play this Coop in 2017. Get a friend or don't get any hopes for it.
    This is about it.
Thank for taking time to read this and I hope your will enjoy it, if you do decide to buy it.

I am a fan of the AC franchise. The worst for me personally was 3 and Unity wasn't too far off. While the graphics were beautiful. The location was lovely. While in idea sounds great I felt rather trapped. They could have done so much more. I have been replaying IV on the PS4 and I missed the open world. The big open environments. I believe if Unity had more cities I would have given it a higher score. Also while the map is scattered with tons to do..it really doesn't take too long to finish them all. Not sure if I would get much replay value in this but at least the statue I got is nice Expand

This is a great game at its core. I did enjoy playing it start to finish and it held my attention the entire time. Graphics and game setting are both spot on. The co-op was good times, I just wish there were more co-op missions. The single player campaign was good fun, a little short but what was there is well paced.

This game frustrates me because it's a good game that could have been great. The controls are poor, god help you when you need to jump through a window or do many other actions, it's so random and just lacking any sort of consistency. The new shooting mechanic is bad, aim before you even pull out your gun? WTF? The frame rate is utter garbage. 30fps is crap to begin with IMO and is struggles to achieve that. Why is it that most of my Wii U games run at a smooth 60fps yet on my PS4 I'm being beaten over the head with 30fps? Cut that **** out! The amount of NPC's was entirely unnecessary. Seriously way over done and I'm guessing a major culprit when it comes to the frame rate issues. I live in a modern day metropolis and at rush hour the downtown core isn't as full of people as revolutionary France? Ok then...

I know that's quite a few gripes for a 7/10 but at the end of the day the biggest test for any game I play is simple, do I want to keep playing? With AC unity the answer was yes despite its many flaws.

I really wish I could score this game higher, it has been one of my favorite franchises. But Unity was so poorly put together it has left a long lasting sour taste in my mouth. But Unity was so poorly put together it has left a long lasting sour taste in my mouth. It's original problems have largely been fixed; the crashes, the online matching for multi player. But the little things that still ruin the game's experience continue. Mostly, I encounter issues with online. Enemies that won't spawn, but somehow still attack you. It's frustrating to see your character die from attacks you can't even respond to. The character will himself freeze up, failing to respond to attacking enemies. He just stands there holding his sword, but won't run, won't attack, won't shoot. Another continual problem I come across is the NPC's in certain missions, like "Women's March" will freeze up. In this mission you have to escort and defend two allies. The mission won't continue to the next objective until they reach their destination, but they just stop walking and won't move. "The Tournament" is another multi player mission that routinely fails. Multiple enemies are supposed to attack you in the third objective but they're invisible...

All in all, it's still a good Assassin's Creed game. the entire franchise has had moments where it could have been better. I've actually screamed at the TV when Ezio would leap off a building when I gave the command to run along the roof. But it's always been a great franchise. Unity could continue this trend, if only Ubisoft would fix these constant bugs and glitches. Or, even better, if they had taken the time before release to get it right the first time.

Late in reviewing it (as I waitied for a price drop)...

Its a good game, with interesting story line and ideas, loving the more diverse weapon choices (though it always seems to me in the AC games that I'm chasing a killer who leads me to another killer etc etc. maybe I dont pay enough attention to the cutscenes!) but the bugs are very noticeable. but the bugs are very noticeable. Im streaming it off an SSD which really helps cut down the long load times, but the NPCs uniforms changing as you get closer is very noticeable, and once you've seen it, you cant not see it. Ive had a few NPCs hovering in mid-air, and a weird spinning sword bug when looting bodies (happened every time for about 20min), but other than that, its been a good fun game with plenty of interest.

I still feel the control system needs some refinement though. Every now and then while running through streets or on rooftops Arno insists on jumping onto a table or chimney stack and just crouching there for too long. More than once have I exclaimed in frustration "GET MOVING!!!".

Look past the bugs and its a great game. Especially as I got it for £7. Will fill the time before Syndicate comes out, which I really hope will have some serious improvements.

Unity is not a bad game, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it advances the series very much, especially for the first title in the series to be a fully next-gen game.
