The Game itself isn't bad, as an assassin's creed fan it'd actually be quite enjoyable, but the game is such a technical disaster that it becomes nearly unplayable at times on PS4, causing you to miss jumps, or mess up timing in fights and dying do to it, at time the frame-rate drops into the teens, which is honestly unacceptable for a AAA game that has been in development for 4 years. Also the large crowds of people bring nothing to the game besides more stress on the consoles hardware, most of the npc's are lifeless fillers that glitch and pop in anyway, they get in the way, react oddly to the player character, and are just overall pointless, if having the crowds smaller would have helped the game run better, they should have done that instead. So basically, the story is decent, and the game would be enjoyable for any assassin's creed fan, but unless they patch the technical issues, i can't recommend anyone buy this game, i regret buying it myself. It should have been delayed Expand

It's Assassin's Creed with lots of bugs, a shocking frame rate and micro tranasctions of up to $100USD enjoy!

Another game pushed to market before it was ready for release. Keep up the good work Ubisoft, you will be taking away EA's golden turd in not time at this rate.

A flawless story with a couple of messy bugs and glitches, the combat system isn't working properly. 2014 was a bad year for games that should've been delayed until 2015 or beyond and they payed the price. Forget the performance problems (they've been fixed for the most part; the game still doesn't look as good or run as well and Black Flag, but whatever), this game would be horrendous if it ran perfectly and looked like real life. Boring main character. I'm actually okay with his motivations and I actually really like that he goes around the assassin order and does stuff on his own, but he's dreadfully boring. The accents are embarrassingly bad. I didn't know every French person in the French revolution spoke with a British accent. I expect better from Ubisoft (but at this point, I'm not sure why). Every single supporting character (except for the redheaded chick) is a freaking travesty. Poorly written, boring blank slates who offer nothing to the game except tell Arno where to go next. And a final boss fight that makes you rely on the game's biggest technical blunder (as far as gameplay goes), the "cover" system. Half of the time, the character never snaps into cover, and the button to do so is bound to the same button as "free run," so 75% of the time, you'll go flying around or over the piece of cover you intend to get behind, causing the final boss to shoot you with a death laser that drains your health in about 2 seconds. Ubisoft did something special with the game, making the movement system feel like the best it's been for about 30% of the time, and for the other 70%, it feels like the worst thing I've experienced. The game is ludicrously bad because it just feels phoned in. They KNEW we were going to buy it, so they half-a$$ed it.It feels like they got halfway through developing it, and they got bored and went home. It's offensive. Destiny is better, and that's saying something. Forcing myself through the final couple of missions was actually physically painful. I'm going to the Doctor tomorrow. Expand

AC Unity should’ve been a fantastic. It was the first game to reinvent the franchise since AC3, and with so many good ideas under its belt, Unity was on the road to becoming the first truly next gen game that AC fans wanted. Instead, we get a title that falls flat on its face and easily ends up being the worst AC game in the franchise.

You play as Arno Dorian (essentially just a rehash of Ezio) who ends up joining the Assassin’s to redeem himself for the deaths of those he feels guilty for. Arno does this by using an unexplained ability to read the thoughts of his targets upon their death, revealing his other targets until he finally finds the one in charge of it all. The story has its entertaining moments and easily one of the most emotionally impactful endings in the franchise thus far, but falls short due to the lack of focus on the French Revolution itself and the lazily done present day storyline.

The story may be average, but it pales in comparison to the game’s many misfires. The parkour system was remade with good ideas and is the best system for controlling your lateral movement, but with no control over your speed, movement becomes very janky in tight environments which severely weakens the stealth gameplay. While being able to crouch is awesome, Arno’s lacks of fluid movement or responsiveness makes stealth frustrating. Worse is the poorly programmed and inconsistent enemy AI, leading to multiple instances of you getting caught unfairly. Plus, since most enemy layouts are overly packed with guards and snipers, stealth becomes nearly impossible and frustrating.

Sadly, the only real motivation to use stealth is to avoid the even worse combat. Largely similar to the Batman Arkham games, your only defense in combat is to counter or avoid enemy attacks. Plus, every enemy carries a firearm, so you’ll have to watch out for the symbol to dodge their shots, since the human shield skill from AC3 is now removed for whatever reason. However, the claustrophobic camera largely prevents you from actually being able to see enemy attacks (especially while in interiors), while the crosshair that alerts you to incoming fire fails to appear half the time. Both of these problems almost ruin combat because they make it cheap and unfair rather challenging.

The sad truth is, every new mechanic is plagued by problems. The upgrade system that allows you to unlock new skills sounds cool until you realize most of them are just standard skills you've had by default in previous games. Arno brings no new skills to the table, and the higher skills he does have take too long to unlock. It’s also frustrating that only story and co-op missions give you the points to unlock them instead of all mission types.

Character customization is also a cool new addition with a variety of outfits and weapons, but most of the higher level pieces are locked behind annoying prerequisites. These would've been great if they were alternatives to just buying them, but forcing them on you is too restrictive.

The weapons and outfits are supposed to add replay value, but that is immediately ruined when you find the game only has one save file with no in-game menu that lets you start the story over.

Another problem is the unnecessary change or removal of abilities that were moving the series forward. You can’t attract enemies to you by whistling, you won’t stay in a hide spot if an enemy sees you enter it, and the double assassination is harder to pull off.

Annoyingly, Unity retains the mindset of “quantity over quality” in terms of the side content. There’s a ton of stuff to do but it all feels the same. Murder mysteries are a step in the right direction but are only fun to play once. Plus, the checkpoints for most of these missions are awful, since they can cause you to start at the beginning or spawn you way across the map, and sometimes directly in the enemy’s line of sight.

Co-op is also a letdown because it doesn't make for stealth games to begin with, but the bad stealth mechanics just ensure you’ll get caught regardless of how coordinated your team is. Taking them on solo only makes them ridiculously hard, while the rewards tied to them require multiple playthroughs, making co-op a grind to get through.

Overall, everything in AC Unity has so many problems, that the few good things like the amazing graphics and presentation are bogged down by them. When Unity performs flawlessly, it becomes the experience I was expecting, but becomes nearly unplayable due to the unnecessary removal of useful mechanics and with every new feature having its own slew of issues. Ultimately, I love Unity for the direction it was taking the franchise, but I hate it because of how poorly executed it all was. It's easily the biggest gaming letdown I've had in a while.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Following up Black Flag, easily the best game in the Assassin's Creed series, was always going to be a tall order, but Ubisoft seem to have despaired of rising to the challenge, releasing the worst game in the series since its inception with the interesting but painfully repetitive Assassin's Creed. The attempt to diversify free-running to allow one to move down as easily as up is a nice idea, but clumsily executed. You never know if Arno is going to jump to the next roof, make a leap of faith, scale the side of the building he's on, plunge to his death, or simply stumble to a standstill.

Co-op failed more times than I care to note, which is all the more disappointing because many of the stories behind the co-op missions were more interesting than the predictable main plot. Arno is a forgettable Ezio-light, everyone in revolutionary France is British, and the fact that the Assassin Brotherhood has descended into the same staid, stifling bureaucracy as the Templar Order is basically just glossed over. Of much more importance is the fact that Arno. Is. Angry. He's Ezio light in far too many ways, all of them less interesting than Ezio himself.

Easily the most disappointing aspect of their failure is the fact that Unity is, in a word, broken. Many times I've been warned about buggy games and had little to no problems with them upon playing. The only exception here was Batman: Arkham Origins, a thoroughly flawed game of huge potential, but one which found its feet after a few patches and now sits proudly next to its predecessors. This may well be the case with AC's first real stab at the next-gen platforms, but right now, I couldn't be moved to care. Unity is a hot mess descended from a pedigree I've come to expect much more from.

In the opening chapter alone I was hit with no fewer than three massive bugs which forced me to reset my console. Countless times I took aim a soldier from cover, and Arno jumped out when I pulled the trigger, but never actually fired. Cue me getting spotted and finding myself in a desperate fight with every guard in the area.

The loss of the naval warfare is keenly felt, with the game suffering from a stifling lack of variety, and as one of the apparently very small group of people who had always enjoyed the modern day story as much as the historical, I was also disappointed with how little progress was made on that front. My nameless, faceless character (no doubt deliberately nameless and faceless to indicate that we are all now Abstergo's mind slaves or on the verge of becoming such), never sits up or moves about, but is merely fed remote instructions from Rebecah(sp?) and Shawn, who refer to themselves only as Bishop and Deacon. The discovery of the abundance of Precursor DNA among the Sages has led to a desperate race. Abstergo want to harness this DNA as they believe doing so will lead to the Rosetta Stone of understanding the ancient race, and thus, their technology. The Assassins, naturally, want to stop them. Unfortunately, this desperation doesn't come across very well in a couple of scattered video sequences where nobody actually does anything, and the host migration sequences, while interesting breaks from the main story, are over too quick, and again, don't convey much urgency.

I've returned my copy; the first time I've ever brought back an Assassin's Creed game. The rest of the series still sits on my shelves, and there's a good chance I'll play them all again. If the main problem of awful mechanics is fixed, Unity could actually wind up being a very good game, though it will never approach the rip-roaring heights of Black Flag. And when it hits the bargain bins, I might ask around to see if the multiple patches made a difference, as those for Arkham Origins did. If so, I'll thumb my nose at Ubisoft in my own special way, and buy it preowned so they don't see a penny. As for future releases, I've sworn never to buy a Ubisoft game upon release again.

Assassin's Creed Unity is hugely disappointing game and once again; a massively hyped Ubisoft game fails to deliver a satisfactory experience. I was hoping Unity would propel the series into the next gen on a spectacular level but I am left absolutely sick of what is a franchise that is becoming more tiresome and tedious per release. The gameplay is rather bland, the missions are repetitive and underwhelming, plus the mechanics feel really cheap. It is clear that even the demos showcased at the trade shows this year were craftily upscaled to appear more spectacular than what is on offer with the end product. Even the PS4 version seems downgraded. Textures were clearly enhanced in the scripted promotional videos leading up to release which mimic that of the Watch Dogs saga. The game doesn't look or run anything like how it was promoted and at times; the frame rate drops to south of 20 which is completely and utterly unacceptable. I never thought I'd see the day, a game promoted on the current gen could be downgraded on the same console but yet again; Ubisoft have pulled the wool over people's eyes in terms of performance and technical execution.

It's clear the game is trying to be more visually ambitious than attempting to deliver an engrossing and in-depth experience but the graphics and technical quality is sunk by lousy optimisation and with boring missions and terrible AI; the whole game falls short on a huge level. I expected so much more but this game should mark the end of the Assassins Creed brand - they've taken it as far as they can and have failed to reach the heights seen with the likes of ACII.

Overall; Unity is a below average title from a tired series. The game runs poorly in many areas and the core gameplay is extremely shallow. Ubisoft's powerhouse of IP's is falling apart game by game and if you thought Watch Dogs was a letdown; you haven't seen nothing yet. Avoid at all costs.

That's the only plausible explanation, for how else could a game with this many bugs and this awful of a frame rate be allowed to be released into the market?

I understand that games will have a few bugs that slip under the radar every once in awhile, but the amount and severity of the bugs in this game is absolutely unacceptable.
Also, at times the frame rate in this game gets so bad that it feels like you're playing an online game on dial-up internet.

Another issue I have is the fighting in this game, as there's a significant delay in the time you push the button to the time that Arno actually does the move you're telling him to. For instance, if I push the X button, there's a delay from the time I push the button to the time that Arno attacks. Compare this to the instant response you get when playing Shadow of Mordor, and this delay seems like an eternity.

The one upside to the game is how amazing the graphics are, as it's easily one of the best looking games out there. However, the graphics aren't enough to make up for the overwhelming amount of things that are wrong with the game.

Ubisoft should be embarrassed by this pathetic excuse for a AAA title.

I've been a long time lurker here at metacritic and through all of the bad games in the past and disappointments, I've never felt the need to put in my two cents until now.

This has to be the biggest disappointment (although probably foreseen) of this year. Regardless of whether or not Ubisoft released in order to make a holiday deadline, this game is unplayable. Assassin's Creed IV was TRULY locked at 30fps and played fine. This game, however, might as well be locked at 25 or even 20, because that is what you'll be seeing most of the time. There are points where it drops into the teens and even single digits! If anyone thinks this is acceptable or playable, they are deluded.

What's sad is the framerate isn't even the biggest issue. The free-running is janky as ever, propelling you into drunken shamblings over seemingly unobtrusive objects that would make all but the most level-headed of gamers throw their controller in frustration. The texture and model pop-in is at an immersion-breaking point; even existing in most of the game's cutscenes where it just looks like terribly lazy transitioning. Not to mention the game breaking glitches and bugs. I've fallen through the world so many times that at this point I wouldn't mind playing the game 1000 ft below Paris. At least the framerate is stable! The co-op is easy to drop in and out, thankfully. But that is about as good as it gets. There is almost no coordination or planning unless you're playing with friends. Most of the 4-player missions/heists consist of four shambling glitchy Arnos racing and rushing through the enemies from checkpoint to checkpoint until coming upon an anti-climatic end and sub-par armor reward. Which brings me to the microtransactions. It's obvious Ubisoft is trying to push the mobile freemium onto AAA titles. Prices of certain pieces of gear or weapons jumps from an acceptable amount of in-game coin to an absolutely absurd amount, hinting that you'd have an easier time just paying real money for it. A piece of armor, for example will jump from 5000F to 250000F from one tier to the last tier.

There are many other small frustrations that add to all of this I could mention, but I feel like I would just be redundant at that point. Do yourself a favor and save your money for the myriad of blockbusters coming out next week (Dragon Age, GTAV, LBP3, SSB4, or even Far Cry 4 if you can forgive Ubisoft at this point). Wait until Ubisoft acknowledges these issues and maybe come back in a month or two to see where it's at.

Finally, in their quest for release one game per year, the games has become more and more poor developed. That's the case of AC Unity.
I really had such great expectations on this one, and now I'm just disappointed and sad about the result. Full of bugs and glitches. It doesn't worth the 60 dollars I paid for it. Great ambitions, poor quality.
And the worst of all, now they want to sell us everything that should come with the game just out of the box. Ubisoft has become so greedy it sickens me.
I'd really wish Ubisoft read this critic and open theirs eyes. I still have faith in the franchise but every time it is more difficult to keep it.

I would define myself as Assassins Creed fan. I´ve played every game so far, but this isn´t quite as amusing as the others were. I mean seriously frame breaks on a next gen console, that´s not how i like it. The controls are sometimes very squishy and the story, well it´s all right so far, but it isn´t quite the same feeling as it was.
So maybe it´s time to say goodbye to this franchise

The game has also got a considerable number of new features which, in my opinion, is a healthy addition - these include character customisation and a point/skill levelling system.

    Is it 'unplayable'? No.
Does it have frame rate issues? Slightly, yet I rarely noticed this in my game.

I have given this game a '7' for a number of reasons:
    * The game does have some underlying problems (eg. framerate).
    * The story-line is poor, repetitive (in almost all missions the objective is to assassinate someone in a building through stealth/stealing from someone). Optional objectives are not made clear. It also lacked action and unique characters thus making it hard to follow and boring. Arno's bipolar part-gentleman part-joker feels unnatural and false. To an extent Paris also feels like a city within London due to the voice-acting which tends to encompass 'Posh English' and Cockney.
    * Lacks multi-player which is featured in all other Assassin's Creed games.

In the end, the game is decent and if you are a fan of the series (as I am) then I would suggest buying it. I do not believe the game deserves "4.3" as a user score in any way - this has only been caused by trolls who apparently expected an aeroplane ticket to 18th century Paris. Tough luck.

-The new combat system is terrible: In all the other ac games its been practically the same, hit triangle to shoot, square to attack and circle to counter and slow down time just long enough to choose whether you want to disarm, kill, shoot, hurt and those sometimes changed depending on the game, but in unity its square to attack as usual but when you're attacked all there is, is parry and dodge: dodge is pretty much usless since parry does the same thing and is almost a counter but there is now slowdown or indicator that you're being attacked and if you don't hit it at the right moment you get a chunk of you life taken away, but the worst thing about combat is the lack of human sheild, since every enemy in the game has a pistol, if they stand back and decide to shoot you, you're screwed. You can't use any weapon you want like in all the others you can only use a melle weapons (which you must buy for any real damage) for actual combat, air assassinations are also very glitchy and I'm not even sure whether a double air assassination is possible on this game.

-The parkour is equally horrible, all you can really do is up or down and they seem to never want to just let go of the wall, for example sometimes you'll want to jump over a bench, but the character will just glitch and hold onto to bench and you press everything you would to get down but nothing will work, it even says there is a "wall eject" if you press X which does literally nothing and every jump is just buggy and choppy.

I have no idea why they changed any of these things since they were absolutly fine before. Ubisoft boasts graphics so good it can only run on 30fps but really its looks pretty much the same as black flag, excluding the view point synchronizations. The mechanics of "The crowd" seem non-existant and lock-picking is like no other game, it just feels like a hacking puzzle from black flag. Consumables are used up very quickly since at the start to about half way you have almost no inventory space, and if were to die after using a smoke bomb for example, upon respawn (after a very long loading screen) the item isn't given back.
Multiplayer is poor since bad connections just add to the uncorfortable feeling of the game and to be ablt to play properly you have to complete missions to get points to unlock abilities that ordinarily would already be available. I've experiances a few times when the frame rate would drop to about 5-10 frames and 1 or 2 crashes. The only thing that could redeem the game would be the story line which I haven't yet finished but for now it gets a 4 for an large open map (yet smaller than in ac4), slight improvement on the graphics and a few minor details other games would usually leave out.
Poorly coded and designed-Too much hype.

The only somewhat fun thing I found was the gear customization and all the different weapons to play with. Unity is based during the french revolution. People are protesting, soldiers are killing etc. The most impressive thing about this game was the number of people in crowds yelling and fighting. This is quickly put at the fore front of problems with this game when you try to move your character. Nothing about is is smooth. It is one chug after another. Ubisoft went on record saying that they fixed all the annoying movements from poor control mapping. This is 100% false. It is worse than ever. You try to climb up, your character moves sideways. You try to go through a window and you end up climbing past it. It is just terrible. In Ubisoft's defense, it would be almost impossible to top black flag, but the infuriating part was THEY DID! But only for last gen consoles. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! The defining moment for The Assassin's creed franchise and they put the OBVIOUSLY much better game with the much better engine on the much worse consoles! WHAT!? This game is all of the above, in many ways. It's buggy and crashes often. It's mostly single player, but in order to unlock all of your character's abilities, you'll need to complete all of the online multiplayer co-op missions. And there are quite a few in-game items that can only be unlocked through paid content packs.

And, as for the game itself, when it works, you'll be treated to barely-above-PS3-quality graphics, a sometimes-confusing stealth mechanic, and a parkour element that ensures that your character will always hang onto the wrong ledge and thus be seen by the enemy.

I bought this game as a history fan fascinated by the French Revolution. The world created (Versailles and Paris) is phenomenal and fully captures the heated atmosphere of the revolution. The visuals for 2014 are exceptional and still looks better than many games in 2018. The story starts strong and Arno (main character) is introduced with an interesting backstory and full of personality. The story and quest design takes a dip around 1/3 of the way in, and all the assassination quests become exactly the same, just lazy and generic writing. The assassins brotherhood itself is pretty pointless, actually restricting Arno and he works much better independently. My main problem with the story is that as someone who loves the history of the Revolution, the story of the game is very Forest Gump; a love story in Paris that just occurs at the same time as the Revolution. Arno never gives his opinions on the revolution and seems to have no interest in anything other than Elise. In comparison to the story and characters of Black Flag, this falls very short.

The parkour aspect is the best in any AC game i've played to this point and the ascending/descending mechanism is very good. However, it works much better in free roam than in quests when your stealthing or trying to get away from soldiers shooting at you. The transition from walking to running is stupidly awkward and there seem to be inconsistent glitches embedded in the parkour system which ruin it. The combat is diabolical - decent but easy stealth, terrible melee swordplay, with a broken counter system and impossible to fight multiple people at once because whilst fighting one of them, the others just stand back and shoot you. Not very practical... Also the microtransactions hehe not good

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Assassin's Creed: Unity is the jankiest game I've ever played and is frustrating and disappointing compared to previous titles in the series. Compared to past titles, many established features are nonsensically stripped, gated, or otherwise less functional, and the game's animation systems are buggy.

    Assassination:
Unlike the previous 4 major titles, Arno doesn't start with double assassination enabled; it's gated behind character progression (and thus made disjointed from the story). Assassination in general works less reliably than previous titles. The targeting for air and double assassinations doesn't seem to work as well as it had in the past, and unlike AC 3 and 4, you can't hold down Assassinate for the game to contextually initiate and chain kills. When combat occurs, Arno can't normal or air assassinate a target (even if you successfully break line of sight and they don't see the attacking coming), but oddly, he can spam corner assassinations. When an assassination fails, the game strangely gives the target i-frames while they are the ground.

    Combat:
Combat is unstable. Enemies sometimes forget what they're trying to do. For example, an enemy might snap out of being staggered by your attacks, or pathfinding breaks, and the enemy runs around Arno like a chicken with its head cut off. Sometimes the game can't resolve if Arno is fighting or fleeing, so he fails to attack, parry, or dodge, or is stuck repeatedly drawing and sheathing his weapon. This is most frustrating when the enemy lands an attack because Arno is stuck re-drawing his weapon. (The Ezio Collection avoids this by letting you lock-on to force a combat stance.) In the worst case, Arno may just freeze and is unable to attack or move. Another point of frustration: enemy attack indicators aren't reliable; sometimes they fail to render, and other times, they appear too briefly before an attack to be helpful. The too brief indicators might be a design-choice, but it's a poor one since the game makes no effort to introduce or train you towards facing tougher enemy types. The worst of the enemy design is that some enemies can dodge bullets despite being blinded or stunned. When combat is stable, Arno is less capable than past protagonists. Arno: can't use his fists or hidden blade in combat, can't do counter-kills, can't do kill streaks, can't use human shields, can't disarm enemies, and can't block melee attacks. Arno relies on dodge, parry, a 3-hit combo (regardless of weapon type), his tools/gadgets, and some additional moves unlocked through character progression (Stunning Strike, Heavy Attack, and Ground Execution). The third hit of Arno's combo has a long recovery, during which he can't attack or use gadgets (but can oddly dodge or parry), which makes the combat feel clumsy and unresponsive even when the enemy is not bugging out.

    Stealth:
Unity adds crouched stealth movement to the series (which is great), but that is the only non-controversial change to stealth. The automatic corner cover system of AC 3 and 4 is replaced with a manual cover system that allows low walls to used as cover as well. However, the new system is sometimes unreliable about which surfaces Arno can and can't press himself against. Additionally, exiting cover can be a finicky affair, and counterintuitively, Arno can't round corners like in most cover systems. The new system is further hobbled by the removal of the whistle-lure feature present in the previous two games. Also unintuitively, enemies are lured by the sight of Cherry Bombs and not the sound. The game is inconsistent about whether enemies can hear conflicts or assassinations through walls and floors, and pickpocketing still sucks.

    Movement:
Functionally, It's not better than previous games. AC 3 and 4 already had controlled descent; (they didn't communicate it well). Some of new animations in Unity make parkour less stable; Arno's spinning jumps sometimes take you in unexpected directions, and entering buildings through windows is slow and awkward. Manual side-jumps have unfortunately been removed, and like all previous protagonists, Arno is defeated by balcony railings and ladders.

    Story and Scenario Weirdness:
The game doesn't do much to develop characters. Each memory/target sequence feels very short. And inexplicably, targets stay in an area despite finding corpses during missions. When Arno kills a target, rather than hearing a dying confession like in previous titles, the game has the odd choice of Arno viewing specific memories of the target at specific camera angles. It's very strange and causes a plot hole regarding the main antagonist's identity being such a long mystery. The weirder part is that the other Assassin characters are comfortable with Arno's power; it feels like very important things happened during the story's time skips. Why does everyone know about Arno's necromantic mind-reading? The story also fails to endear Arno's mentor (Bellec) and love interest (Elise).

The hey days of the Assassins Creed games telling a proper story are gone. The story and the cut scenes are so bad that i don't even remember what the point is. Gameplay is ruined by the Frame rate and the glitches, the fact that you know that even running on Roof tops could lead to you getting stuck in some house that you weren't supposed to enter or fall through the floor, means that you are never enjoying the experience.

In conclusion if you are new to the franchise, 'Don't buy it' this game doesn't deserve to be out on the market. Since it is a buggy glitchy mess that never deserved to be put out for sale. However, if you are someone who loves the Assassins Creed Franchise, ' Don't Buy it' else this piece of garbage will ruin great memories of a time where Assassins Creed was about achieving Greatness in Gaming.

The game totally removed annoying repetitive tailing mission to something really interesting. The idea of showing you different appotunity and let you decide which way you should approach the mission was great idea indeed. The crime mystery missions were also good new addition. Gives you this Batman detective mission taste.
Another element borrowed from batman was the Nostradamus Enigma missions where you start to solve few riddles similar to the ones used to be in Arkham series.
Now to the bad things. Which are really really bad
Sadly the game is broke. Too much bugs. Annoying bugs. Game breaking bugs. Companion app sync bugs. Uplay connectivity bugs. Lots of bugs everywhere and almost touch every aspect of the game.
UbiSoft even asked gamers to disable online features. Can you believe that?! They were too excited about these online features and to workaround few bugs they asked us to disable the online features.
Also in order to reviel everything on the map you need purchase Helix points in order to unlock time saver packs. Helix points are available on PlayStation Store or XBox Live. and they are not cheap.
This is just too much. UbiSoft totally ruined the game with all the bugs and microtransactions.

This game is that lack of effort, I'm sure the story is pretty solid but I cannot get far enough into it before some experience ruining glitch occurs that brings me back to realizing this game isn't an immersive experience its a chore. I consider myself very open to new ideas and am not quick to write off a game that isn't perfect at launch, but nearly 5 months after release the game still feels extremely clunky and unpolished even after all the updates they through into it. And when I say clunky what I mean is frame rate drop, free running mechanics not working as their supposed to (worse than ac1 imo), a slew of graphical and rendering issues, and walking through NPCs like they are phantoms. I played up to sequence 6 before I said, I'll wait for the patch, so I waited for a few months and still not enjoying the game due to this unpolished product. Just going to look up a plot synopsis online because I can't take another minute of playing this very clunky and unfinished product. Hopefully Ubisoft learns from this experience and doesn't release another sub-par game just to meet a deadline. Expand

I've had to leave the game numerous times to be able to finally free my character from the window that they had somehow fused into. Multiplayer in this game is also where you can find an abundance of glitches and the occasional frame-rate nose dive. I've had the game go from 27 fps to 15 fps within the blink of an eye and stay there for more then 3 minutes. I've also had missions FORBID THEMSELVES from letting my friends and I complete said mission, a prime example of this would be a mission were you have to take out snipers within buildings before a characters chariot comes between their cross-hairs. The mission INTENTIONALLY makes it so that once you've taken out at least 8 of the 9 snipers, the last sniper disappears from existence, and your left looking at the bar that says "8 Out Of 9 Snipers Eliminated" until you restart the mission again and hope that the game is in a forgiving mood. The story of this game feels like a french version of ACII, and in no way does it improve upon it or give you a memorable character like ACII did. The only thing this game seems to do right is the combat system, but about 2/3s of it is still BS. They took away the mechanic were you were able to turn any enemy into a meatshield when an enemy was about to shoot you, so now, every time you fight a group of enemies, you have to either roll around and move like an autistic child on a sugar high to avoid being shot, and even WITH that, you still get hit. The enemies AI seems to have also taken a massive amount of steroids, because the difficulty enemies present now is even more then that of all previous AC games enemies combined. So enjoy dying a lot. Overall, I'm glad a friend lent me this game, because I would have regretted this purchase till the day I died Expand

·The sounds you hear on the streets are repeated over and over again. Just walking through Paris you might hear the same lady screaming 5 times in less than 3 minutes.

I would say it's one of the worst AC's so far. People saying that the game doesn't have problems are completely lying and I can't believe people are saying they didn't experience any frame drops! It's complete lies. The game is unfinished and you should seriously think twice about buying it. If Ubisoft fix it then fine, but why would anyone want to play a game that runs < 20fps in most areas.

People just don't want to admit it's issues and that's really sad and is the reason why companies keep releasing unpolished content, so many people will just like anything and look past the genuine problems. I would definitely say that the game is not worth the full price in its current state. It needs to be fixed with a patch.

Let's face it, Assassin's Creed has had it's ups and downs within the series. Last year's AC:Black Flag was a breath of fresh air in a slowly drowning franchise.

Yet, instead of continuing on that path, Ubisoft has decided to come back to it's roots, releasing AC:Unity, resembling greatly to AC:2.

To make it simple. We've lost the ''new'' that we had found with AC:Black Flag. Yes we have a deeper customization system for armour and weapons, a new Parkour System that helps with descending from higher grounds, but then, we also have many major issues.

The plot is somewhat boring, but we usually can get passed by that when the gameplay experience compensates.

The thing is, it doesn't. We have a broken game. A release that should have been delayed for the loyal and new players.

I've played it on the PS4. The choppy frame rate is horrible. Indoors, I usually drop around 20ish FPS and let's not talk about the outdoors and it's overcrowded roads which kills it.

I've encountered many bugs with very little game time, where the PC won't respond to the controller's commands, glitches, instant kills, and very sluggish battles where I wasn't able to fight the enemies.

I've played many of the AC series, yet have never been so disappointed by one (excluding the 1st and original AC)

Also, let's note that the game is harder than all of the other entries, with far-away check points and with a less powerful PC.

It breaks the mood. I don't feel all that powerful and had the fantasy of being able to play the previous assassins from earlier entries.

    Get your stuff together Ubi.

I started this game excited and ready to jump into the French revolution. After about five hours of playing, I realized that this game is seriously broken. However, it would be a lie to say that the whole game is terrible. There were some element in this game that I hope to see in future Assassin's Creeds.

Let's start with the few positive aspects of Assassin's Creed: Unity

    Positives:
Simple side missions to keep the player entertained after finishing the game.
    Customization options for your character.
The ability to choose your character's weapon.

    Now the myriad of negatives.
    Negatives:
Glitchy as Ride to Hell: Retribution
    Customization options are limited
    Arno is dislikable
    Elise is a B*TCH
I non longer care about the war between the assassins and the templars
The rife combat can not be upgraded in the skills menu
Combat doesn't work at all since the game is glitchy
The story about the previous civilization is now weak
    No puzzles
Forced to use a hidden blade to assassinate your target (this takes away the creativity of the player and how they choose to kill their target)

(Just to name a few of the negatives) - Metacritic is playing an ad that is cause major lag and I don't have the patients.)

    Conclusion: Don't buy this one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So I´m making one thing clear from the start. Assassins Creed Unity is the worst Assassins Creed so far.
Even if you don´t look at the bugs, which are plenty, the story is not good at all. The game only focuses on Multiplayer. Which is a huge improvement since its predecessors. But it has no story about the old civilization what so ever.
    !!! Spoiler!!!
So your father is an assassin and dies. You becoming an assassin. hmm. kinda like Assassins Creed 2. Your mentor kinda betrays you and you kill him. You get thrown out of the brotherhood, keep on fighting, kill a view templars and at the end you fight the big boss of the templars in paris. Which suddenly has a artifact weapon.
Your "love" dies and you kill him. You get the artifact weapon. The end.
    !!! Spoiler!!!

So this is the story in a nut shell. Climbing is very anoying in unity. You are much faster, if you stick to the streets and just simply run. The side missions may contain a little bit of story, but basically its the same as in all the other assassins creed before. Which is not bad. Its the imense volume of these side missions which make it hard to even use you map. All you see are icons of some side mission. The rewarding of those side missions is questionable. Defend a guy against 3 enemys you get 1500 Livres. Kill an oponent which is guarded by 1000000 soldier and you get 700 Livres?! I´m mostly disapointed by the story, i know from the start, that the game has a lot of bugs, but bugs plus "already-seen-heard-played" story?! well eventhough i only paid 30 € for the game, it was wasted. I don´t know more about the story of assassins creed itself. I just played as some random assassin which is in my perpective not very charismatic.

So if you never played assassins creed, its a funny game. But if you played it from the start, you simply be disappointed. Because it doesn´t matter from which point of view you look at it, the game is simply not in the league as its predecessors. I know that this is mainly caused by the marketing of the game. Because there policy is: Every year 1 assassins creed game has to be released. But with the new posibillities of the next gen consoles and the growing marked and a relatively high standard of a game. This is just not bareable.
If this is the course assassins creed is taking, i´m not really up for it to buy the next releases.

I know this review is kind of emotional, but to get to the point:
    pro:
    the grafic is good.
    the multiplayer has improved drastically
    movements look nice
playing the game is fun to some extend
roleplaying feeling because of the equipment you can get and combine
    contra:
    the story is not good
there are a lot of bugs
climbing in paris is a pain in the ass
getting fast from point A to point B is only possibly threw running on the ground
    not really charismatic characters

So all in all, its not a bad game like E.T. But it is the worst assassins creed which has been made thus far.

The technicall mess is so bad in this game that you will automatically desist on playing it. This game is a Joke. Frame rate is awfull, glitches, bugs and crashes make this game one of the biggest failures in the gaming history.

I played this game in 2020, apparently it was optimistic of me to assume Ubisoft had ironed the kinks out of this game by now as I still faced countless bugs, glitches, and crashes. The story in this game was completely boring and the characters lacked anything memorable. My least favorite game in the series, cannot recommend.

I liked the story to a certain degree but the game felt very difficult to play for me. I went from Assassin's Creed Black Flag to this and was really disappointed.

You then pick from a menu of stories which absolutely killed the game for me and made it seem more arcade like as opposed to sandbox like. Ubisoft focused way too much o those cinematics This game is an unfinished game like most have been for ps4. They finally fixed the character jumping off high walls when in free run mode. Finally they have a get down button combo. From there the motions got way more choppy and the game lags in frame rate. Character motion reminds me a lot of how UFC turned out this year where if he character doesn't line up with an object they want to climb or grab you see them slide to the object like moonwalking. I played about 40 mins the first time and got this lack of smooth character play and choppy play about 20 times. I have completely decided to take this game back and will not be doing a full review or play through. After black flag this deserves to be tossed in the trash it was overly hyped like watchdogs and most other ps4 games this season Expand

Polished turd. I'll give it a few points just because the artwork is great. I loved AC:Black Flag, but this game is a total wreck. There are a lot of glitches that need to be patched, but I don't imagine there is any patch for the dull gameplay.

When did Assassin's Creed become so dull, and SO BROKEN? Seriously, it's like companies don't even play test their games any more... Ubi is becoming the new EA which is just so sad, releasing unfinished crap and justifying stupid things like parity/sexism etc. This game is probably improved by some of the stupid bugs, which just shows what a poor effort it is. It does have some nice visuals though

This whole franchise is just so stale. Chunring out the same game year after year is the height of lazyness.
AC4 was a breath of fresh air. Yes it had the same tired and boring missions and overall poor storyline, but i brought a new piece of gameplay with it. Unity is a massive step backwards in all apsects. Avoid.

Nothing new , just the assassins ever with more quirks in gráfricos animations and taking advantage
a striking historical fact . and thus follows UBSOFT with his super deceptive marketing .

Ultimately, if this is an example of the franchise's greatest strengths, consider yourself lost regarding a potential customer. Seriously, a game should not be running as poorly as that title. Ubisoft has a knack for releasing broken games, it seems. Expand

OK, I had not played an AC game since the first one on PC so I was expecting some true next gen experience here. Alas, I was extremely disappointed.

First of all, the frame rate drops on PS4 are just out of this world, it feels sluggish and there are so many visual bugs that it is impossible not to feel pulled away from game play. Game world seems alive and beautiful but so unpolished

Combat is a bit better than before but when you have experienced combat in Demon's Souls and such this feels like a 3 year old trying to put a square in a triangle hole.

Storywise there's nothing worth noting and no real involvement with France's real history which is a shame.

OK, game is disappointing overall and feels unfinished and rushed down. There are microtransactions in game which is stupid to say the least, even more after Projekt Red (creators of The Witcher games) have announced that all DLC for The Witcher 3 are going to be for FREE. Take note Ubisoft.

Final comment: Do not buy, rent first and see for yourself if it is worth it or not.

I am a long time fan of AC. That said, this game had the worst performance I have ever seen. The frame rate is so bad that it is unplayable. So upset Ubisoft released this garbage to us. Oh, and the micro transactions were removed from the review builds. Yes, you gotta pay for the good stuff above the 60 bucks you pad for the game. Sony was nice enough to refund me my money. 1st timeI am a long time fan of AC. That said, this game had the worst performance I have ever seen. The frame rate is so bad that it is unplayable. First Watchdogs and now this?!
First off, the graphics reminds me of Assassins Creed 2 or 3 on ps3 or xbox360 and this should be on Next Gen. Nope. Low graphics.
Also so many glitches like guards getting stuck in walls, flying and other NPC being weird wizards and going weird places. The combat and free-roam/parkour system is also very broken. Fx parkour teleport, poor combat system.

Framerate drops like a dubstep beat even in cutscenes, cutting the frames to 10-15FPS. Choppy gameplay in general.
The story I like, rather good so far but is really buried by this broken game and you dont pay attention to it because you are too busy yelling at the screen in frustration.
I'm usually a calm gamer but this **** put my rage mode on.

Its feels like a return to form of the older games but a mix of the last 2. You feel the medieval history of an old city mixed with the colonial modernism of the time. The visuals are without a doubt absolutely breathtaking. Overall the game feels like a low level assassination mission game. Gone is the larger mythos that has made assassins creed the series we have grown to love and replaced with it is a story of petty vengeance. That is of course a point in all the games but here it is the entire story. There is no character development, the story focusing mainly on Arno. He's a likeable guy but since the entire story is driven by his desire for vengeance and nothing else we never get to know him. We don't see any of the artifacts from the first civilization highlighted very much in the game. In fact those references which were ripe in all the other games are nearly non exsistant in this one.

The missions are pretty decent because they make you think. You have several points of entry in order to get into the buildings, and have to plot them well. The problem is that you usually have to kill pretty much every enemy available to reach your goal. They also began to feel stale after awhile because the formula is pretty much the same. The targets never really become a part of the storyline because all you ever see is them in Arno's after assassination visions. That leading up to another sore point I have with the game. The after death scene where the main character finds out the motivations of his targets and often apologizes for their death is gone. Replaced with it is Arno looking into their past events from his own eyes. I imagine to some that's a good thing. For me the departure from the format of previous games is just sad to see.

The modern half of the story is pretty much gone. Besides a few little tidbits here that plays almost no part. You aren't even sure if you are the same character from the last game or an entirely new character this time around. I always enjoyed this half of the game as much as I did the parts where you lived in the past. It was nice to see the tie ins from the past to the present. What you get in this game feels more like a distraction from the main story than anything else. Overall the game has a lot of intentional but just does not deliver.

I'm disgusted with the level of BS this game carries and what it represents for the future of gaming. If you respect this medium and want it to be better overall, avoid this game. Discourage anyone buying it and recommend them Shadow of Mordor instead.

Unity is not a bad game, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it advances the series very much, especially for the first title in the series to be a fully next-gen game.
