I got this after reading many things saying which of Syndicate’s DLCs were worth buying and playing. This one was ranked highly after the Dreadful Crimes. So when there was a sale on it, I picked it up. Naturally I played it right after AC Syndicate’s campaign. Wow what can be said for this DLC?

As others have said the first 10 minutes (the prologue) are very strong. You meet Jacob, 20

So when there was a sale on it, I picked it up. Naturally I played it right after AC Syndicate’s campaign. Wow what can be said for this DLC?

As others have said the first 10 minutes (the prologue) are very strong. You meet Jacob, 20 years after Syndicate has ended, he apparently started up his own Brotherhood in London but now these killings have started. After the cut scenes you start as Jack the Ripper himself and it’s a powerful opening.

But it quickly jumps off a cliff from here. You switch over to Evie who comes back to London to search for Jacob. And boy has India not been kind; her face model is now ugly as sin and doesn’t look anything like her previous one. You can no longer do assassinations or any sort of killings whatsoever. The scaring power is ridiculous; it just causes people to run around the map like crazy people.

The story is paper-thin and what could have been a promising few hours, fell flat with a hurried ending that made no sense whatsoever and wow there’s Jacob, we’ll cover this all up so this never happened, the end. Don’t waste your money, I don’t know what those reviews were talking about, this DLC is not worth your time. Syndicate itself wasn’t good, but this is even worse.

I enjoyed AC Syndicate, but this DLC was terrible. You know all those cool weapons, outfits, and skills you earned in the main story? Well, apparently Evie lost and forgot pretty much all of them in the 20 years since the main story, because who needs a near magical outfit that makes you invisible... Well, apparently Evie lost and forgot pretty much all of them in the 20 years since the main story, because who needs a near magical outfit that makes you invisible... You know all that money you saved up in the first game? Did you like using kukri or cane swords? Too bad, now she only uses brass knuckles. Remember the hidden blade that has been a staple of every AC game since the first? Seems you don't even have those anymore either. Remember how frustrating it was early in the main game when you had to walk slowly with kidnapped targets and constantly hit a button to keep them from escaping? Well, now you get to do that constantly and there is no skill to dispense with the annoying escape attempts.

The entire fear mechanic this DLC is built around is stupid. That is to say, it is slightly interesting the first few times, but then it just gets annoying listening to the guys scream and watching the enemies run away. The story may be good, it was definitely interesting for the time I played, but it the gameplay became so annoying and boring that I just quit, the first time that has happened to me in any AC game. The absolute worst experience I've ever had in an AC game, and I played all the way through Unity. It pains me to do so, but giving this DLC a 3/10 is being generous.

I loved AC Syndicate and scored it with 10 here on MC. As Jack the Ripper theme was intriguing I was very excited to play it. Unfortunately, it become not good. While ACS was fun and perfect regarding gameplay they significantly changed gameplay to worse. It took a lot of fun out of the game. Pity because that theme deserve better DLC!

  1. Jack the Ripper offers interesting storyline and gameplay mechanics (Fear), but this time the AI is a total disaster.

It's indeed pricey, but if you enjoyed Syndicate, this will offer you some good gameplay sessions, crafted with a good deal of charm.

A decent DLC, with a passable storyline and good content. It doesn’t really add that much to the formula, but it’s still a good buy if you liked the base game. Separating it from the main story also gave the developers some freedom when it comes to story twist, and this is a good thing.
