And now, remastered on the PlayStation 4, we’ve got the game Rogue always deserved to be.

As a jumping in point, it would be difficult to recommend Assassin's Creed Rogue. However, as a product in and of itself, it is a cohesive experience with hidden levels of depth and progression possibilities, backed by exceptional presentation values and fun fighting and seafaring mechanics. Completionists looking for an irresistible challenge and franchise fans who missed out the first time around will find a lot to love here.

If you never played the original game or are new to the series, then purchasing this for your PS4 or Xbox One seems like a no-brainer and comes off as a “buy”. If you played the original game on a PS3 or XBox 360 then you need to decide if the modest price, of only $29.99 USD, is worth it if you want to play through it again plus the two bonus missions.

Technically well improved open-world action, with gameplay variety and an intricate story.

Considering that Assassin’s Creed as a series allows us to visit the past, Rogue Remastered ends up achieving the series’ purpose. It’s a romp through time, a showcase of some of the best that Assassin's Creed has to offer in both gameplay and story, and now visually matches its successors. While not everything about the game is perfect, I have no trouble recommending it, especially to someone that has not experienced it yet.

Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered gives players a chance to play an important game in the series' ongoing narrative, and this re-release looks (and plays) better than ever.

One of the most interesting stories in the franchise, which stands afloat, technically speaking, in the current generation. It suffers in comparison with how much AC Origins improved the mechanics.

Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered sees the return of a long forgotten entry in the series. Whilst the gameplay feels a bit dated now and then, the game delivers a solid adventure from the perspective of the Templars.
  9. 75
Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered is a stellar remastering of one of the series most overlooked entries. Though it pales next to Origins, Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered generous, content stuffed and budget priced effort still bears revisiting all the same.

This is the usual remaster of a game, better than what we could have remembered.

It might be unfair to judge a four year-old game by today’s standards, but after experiencing the deep open world of Origins, it’s hard to go back.

The game is one of the few entries in the series that manages to capture a feel of adventure, making it a worthy play for those who love stories where the main character raises from nothing to become the most important man in the world.

A very good remaster for an interesting Assassin's Creed chapter. Unfortunately, the game seems to be a little bit old today, especially after the Origins' revolution.

The visual rework may not be the best we've seen, but this 2018 Assassin's Creed Rogue edition is a true opportunity for all the players who missed the game in 2014.

Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered offers nothing really outlandish besides slightly updated graphics, and 4K for PS4 Pro and Xbox One X owners. As always, if you haven't played it go for that version, otherwise, don't bother.

Rogue still is very enjoyable, maybe even more than you think, but if you already played it this remaster doesn't offer anything new.

Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered is a strange paradox. It's a "link" chapter, that concludes the concepts born on previous gen consoles, but on the other hand it actually says something new about the series and its background. There are plenty of recycled ideas, but here they reach the better compromise between engagement, free-roaming, plot and optional tasks. The remaster also does not feature specific changes except from the stabilized frame-rate, so if you are not collectors you will not be so incentivized to rebuy it. If you have discovered the series from Black Flag and Unity, consider giving it a shot.

While the remastered version of Assassin’s Creed Rogue is not as graphically up-to-date as you would expect, this is a wonderful chance to add another great title in the series to your collection if you missed it 4 years ago.

But at the base of the project there is the same, amazing atmosphere of freedom, exaltation and adventure that was breathed in Black Flag.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue: Remastered offers a great story with an interesting main character. The dark journey of Shay Cormac is one of the best in the series, now even more with the enhanced graphics. Despite this, the gameplay structure isn’t aged properly: while the naval combat is still fun, we cannot say the same of the ground fights and activities.
  21. Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered, still have the problems of the games original release. Broken combat and movement mechanics is just no fun. The only good aspects of this game are the visuals and naval combat.

This still shows off one of the deepest characters in franchise history, but came across (and still does) mechanically as old-fashioned.

Assassin's Creed Rogue is a very unnecessary remaster because it doesn't improve the core game in any way. There are some minor tweaks in the graphics department, but it looks just like any other next-gen port of an older game.

The remaster goes back to everything we are a bit done with now. It is nice though, being able to play the most interesting parts of the franchise exactly like one should.

Despite the good technical remaster, Assassin’s Creed Rogue finds its definitive form out of time. It’s hard to suggest to play such an old episode of the Ubisoft saga when you can play Origins, which just gives to Assassin’s Creed a brand new life. However Rogue is a fair Black Flag spin-off, and if you are a fan of the saga and never had the chance to play the role of the betrayer of the Creed, it may be worth a run.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered has some noticeable graphical improvements, but not enough to overshadow the gameplay flaws of the original. At $30, the game is only really worth it for hardcore fans.

Assassin's Creed Rogue is an often-overlooked entry in the series. It's a fun compilation of all prior releases, and it has a cool story and strong characters. Its remastered version, however, doesn't add anything significant and falls flat since it doesn't offer any improvements to Shay Cormac's Assassin/Templar story.

A vital entry for fans who missed out the first time, Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered boasts an excellent story and beautifully upgraded 4K visuals, but feels extremely dated next to Origins.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered sits in a bit of an odd place. It’s a good game on its own, but after the release of Assassin’s Creed Origins and the major improvements it brought to the series, Shay Patrick Cormac’s trek across the ocean feels outdated only four years after its original release. If you can stomach a return to the franchise’s original formula, then the experience will be worth your while thanks to a compelling plot and excellent naval mechanics. But if you’ve grown tired of that recipe, Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered won’t do anything to draw you back in.

Shay is an interesting character, offering a maturity we haven’t seen much of in the series, his story is engaging, and the naval combat is still great fun, but none of it is enough to counter the frustrations that we thought the Assassin’s Creed series had left behind.

Even after all my criticisms with the game, the ending was both surprising and fitting.

    A 30fps last gen remaster? What a joke. 30fps is an unplayable slideshow, it's 2018 not 2008.

Its often compared to Unity as they were released around the same time for different generations, in this respect its better than unity and it has this AC heritage gameplay and feel to it with a lot borrowed from AC4 Black Flag but to call this a Remaster for this Gen's Hardware, not sure, it looks last gen to me. Overall its an enjoyable revisit of an AC that was a victim of Generation swap. Good news released at a budget price and discounted immediately. Full Review »

Firstly, me like many others i played the hell out of this game back in the PS3 era.
Now is this '' remaster'' a good choice of returning back to North Atlantic with shay patrick cormac?
the answer is simple if you are a die hard fan like myself yes all the way in, but if you are a casual newcomer then no especially NO if you have even see a glimpse of origins and you are so naive and expect that kind of magnitude.

The game is beautiful it is not verry different compared to the older version but the image is better
( the resolution as well as textures even in the simple PS4 which i own ) but most importantly the performance has been boosted.
I am half way in the game and not even one of the famous glitches and bugs were encountered.

I believe it is a great game and 8 is an adequate grade to a vast content.
The overall image could have been better but sailing in these water is just mouth dropping.
PLEASE DO NOT COMPARE IT WITH ORIGINS it is unfair, this game ( the remastered version ) stands pretty well, it's cheap and only 10gp of space, so please my fellow gamers play and enjoy a tale of a templar known as shay patrick cormac.
