Any game that can brick a PS4 is a zero. That isn't hate and is common sense! Anthem can and is destroying people's consoles if reports are true. Anything else such as the game missing game play and heaps of bugs and loot balancing issues is completely irrelevant. This game needs to be shut down and worked on for another 2 years before it is in a state that is playable and safe to play.

This game is literally the Fallout 76 of 2019! The loot is absolute garbage! The loading times are unacceptable! Now the game is actually killing consoles with their hard crash bugs and issues. This game cannot be recommended to anyone who actually cares about gaming and its quality and future!

It's a basic game...This is 2019...And we are rehashing old destiny and bioware.

This is a simple cash grab. Just like Ubisoft selling Far Cry 5.1 aka New Dawn (Far cry 5 didn't have the respect to survive a year before they regurgitated a lackluster "sequel"

Stay away. It feel fun though, but there are plenty of other games with better quality, cheaper price, and richer story.

An overpriced and unfinished game, it should be free.
    Long and many loading screens.
    Useless hub.
    Pointless character creation.
    A lot of servers disconnection.
    All weapons look the same.
    Boring story and missions.

The flying and gameplay are fun though. But not worth your time.

So the game is unplayable currently. I get booted every time with error when retrieving live data or error when retrieving pilot data or unknown error. What a joke! To everyone who consider to buy this game: please don’t do that. The whole gaming industry will benefit if the games like this fail. Absolute lack of respect for the players ea/bioware ! EA ruins yet another company. Maybe if they'd actually try harder to work on an a video game than pleasing people like Anita Sarkeesian, this could have been decent. The game can actually brick your console, what else needs to be said.

(Side note, If your console was bricked, look up how to start up your PS4 in safe mode and "Rebuild database", that makes the playstation at least turn back on.)

This game has so much potential but it is in reality absolutely terrible. Probably the worst gaming experience I have had ever. If I sit down for a 2 hour gaming session I probably get about 15 minutes or actual game play and that is so buggy and filled with lag that it's not even enjoyable. As much as I used to love Bioware, I hope they are disbanded so that talent can reemerge elsewhere.

Which no matter how fun the game is when you see these stories coming out it will be in the back of your mind. That being said I still had a bunch of fun when it came down to it.

Anthem has one of those ancients created old technology and we must stop baddy from accessing it. For some reason almost all Sci-fi games fall on this trope and I am not sure why. Regardless I was still enjoying the story. While your character never is more than a cypher that CAN TALK they never are more than a snarky badass. Your AI mission helpers/quest givers are full of personality and fun. I did enjoy the talking bits much more than I thought I would. Unlike Destiny, which this game is ripping off partly. They explain the plot right there not once did I wonder why I was doing anything, or why I was killing these villains. Yet again unlike Destiny they have multiple cutscenes that function like little exposition movies that are beautiful and entertaining to watch.

Speaking of beautiful this game looks amazing. I was in awe by the scope and look of each plant and explosion. The gameplay is if you were Iron Man on a distant planet blowing aliens to pieces. It is a third person action game with a dash of RPG in the mix. Of course it has loot drops for better weapons and you can play raids with friends, or even the story missions. What I adore was the fact that I could just play the story missions solo and not feel like I was being forced to play online. At least Bioware had the good sense to let me play their games how I want and not how EA wants.

Overall the game is a lot of fun, and with friends I could see the replay value through the roof. Yet if you’re me I don’t see myself going through this story more than once. It is more fleshed out then say Destiny is, but nowhere near how any other Bioware game typically is. I would say this game would be a great RENTAL. Play it over the weekend and send it back to Gamefly/Redbox you won’t be disappointed with it.

Much of the content shown in devstream cut and served on the grain in the form of new content.
+ crash (one guy flew 5 times during a raid), the loss of sound, the hang of missions (in one of the final missions, endless spawn of enemies).
Of course, you can always blame EA for all sins, but too much is hanging on the developers.
I was really looking forward to this game and my friends pre-ordered it only because I recommended it to them and constantly discarded the latest news from the developers. As a result - I am very ashamed.
I certainly hope that some time will pass and we will all get optimization and content, but what we have now is pitiable.

Same with mech enhancements.
I spent months playing Warframe, which is just as grindy, but it offered so many different things to aim for that it kept me hooked. Here you'll probably have fun during the campaign, especially if you play with friends, but after that there is literally nothing. The missions are always the same, and more powerful enemies are simply the same enemies with higher stats. I didn't last one month.

What can be said about a game that is bricking PS4 consoles and is riddled with bugs and ridiculously long loading screens.

You will be given a choice of NPC's to go and speak to which will raise one of your factions scores slightly. Some of them are interesting to listen to while others ... not so much.

The story is okay'ish. It isn't anything superb but it worked for what it was and I enjoyed playing through it and then it happened. I hit end game.

I call it end game but there is barely anything to do and nothing that would keep my interest for long.

You have 3 strongholds, one of which you've been doing since rank 7 and one is just a repeat of the last mission, the epitome of lazy game design.

The gear drops, oh dear the loot drops. Once you hit ilevel 400 in hard and got some masterwork weapons it's time to hit grandmaster. Now with the 165% increase in mob health and damage and a huge 75ilevel for the next grandmaster rank I expected the gear drops to be higher level than hard mode.

    How very wrong I was.

Drops in hard mode are ilevel 36 and drops in grandmaster are ilevel 36 which the occasional legendary that has a bit of an increase. This takes grinding to a whole new level because at ilevel 400 you are barely useful in a fight. Your guns do minimal damage and your abilities will barely scratch anything. The ult from my colossus at that level didn't even knock the shields from a legendary mob with all 3 hits. Speaking of playing colossus at grandmaster, welcome to revival 101 because that's what you will spend most of your time doing while running around reviving those that play like it's still hard mode and think they can fight the same.

I can see why they slowed gear progression down, there is nothing else to the end game.

The story isn't long enough to drag out the game and end game isn't deep enough to warrant me playing it on a regular basis. There is only so many times I can see Tyrant Mines or The Heart of Rage before the sight of them bores me and i'm beyond bored of the first stronghold by this point.

Now it has come to light that Anthem is bricking PS4 consoles and Sony is offering full refunds to anyone that bought it digitally, no questions asked. Just mail Sony and it's done.

Sadly I got mine from Amazon so i'm stuck with a game I can't play because I daren't risk my console.

All in all it's an average game plagued with more problems than it's worth. I cannot recommend this game to anyone. It was released far too early and BioWare can't seem to fix the problems the game has. Current issues are quite serious but nothing.

One thing I see a lot is the game is fun with friends. Everything is fun with friends. I could sit and watch paint dry on a fence with my friends and still have a laugh. If a game isn't fun on it's own right and needs your friends to make it entertaining then it isn't worth your money.

I pre-ordered Anthem and even bought a copy for my best friend because of the early E3 trailer and later "actual gameplay" trailer. Well let me tell you, those videos were outright LIES that are illegal under US law.

    The game:

    - Can't even be played at most times due to server instability issues
    - Forces you to hit a loading screen for practically everything you want to do
    - There are still constant Pilot Error Data bugs which prevent you from even getting into the one single instanced town in the game (where you start from on login)
    - The combat is a joke since combat is based on scaling (ie a lvl1 player joining their friend will do more DPS with a lvl1 gun than someone with a full MasterWork loadout)
    - Is horribly designed from the ground up
    - Lacks any true end-game and BioWare's 90-day Games As Service model puts the first event a full 3 months after launch which effectively kills the game in terms of the majority of players
    - Is a looter shooter..... WITH NO LOOT. The Devs refuse to make the loot rain despite receiving a THOROUGH post by Diablo 3's director who revamped D3's loot with 2.0
    - The crafting system is now unusable since the harvest nodes you farm to get crafting material with were nerfed into oblivion and harvesting is now a waste of time

I could go on and on about how terrible this game is, but the gist is that Anthem is a buggy mess that has far too many issues connecting to it's own servers for even a single-player instanced walk around Tarsis.

Do NOT spend your money on Anthem. And I HIGHLY recommend not buying any more BioWare or EA games ever again unless you want to be looked at as a cash cow meant to be strung along to pay for low-effort DLC, loot boxes, and low-effort cosmetics that aren't even what the players want.

Anthem has no content, no meaningful story, no characters, no deep gameplay, no optimisation. It's full of bugs and crashes (in some cases PS4 consoles can even become inoperable after playing Anthem). Loading screens appear every 5 minutes, it's worse than PS3/Xbox 360-era games which had constant loading screens due to the old consoles lacking memory. No way Anthem has been in development since 2012, it's EA/Bioware propaganda so they can dupe gamers.

Flying freely over the map like Iron Man, and some truly beautiful graphics (although they have been heavily downgraded compared to the reveal trailer back in 2017 even on PC), can't possibly redeem Anthem on their own. They can't make up for the lack of content and the bugs (not to mention bricking PS4 consoles).

In this game you just shoot brain-dead NPCs, loot them and repeat for an eternity. In the meantime you're expected to be kind enough to buy a dozen skins every month so EA can monetize the game, please their investors with higher profits, and their execs can afford a new Ferrari to smash.

    No thanks.

The main story is generic and not very interesting, with most players I speak to choosing to skip through conversations completely, as well as this, prepare to frequently cringe at NPC dialogue during missions and cutscenes, completely removing any sense of immersion or tension, and the ending will leave you more disappointed than most recent Star Wars movies.

Customization of your Javelin is one of the selling points of this game, giving you the ability to combine 6 elements across your character, including textures, patterns & colours, and while this is a refreshing change, armour pieces are currently locked behind a coin grind/paywall, with only 3 or 4 options currently available.

Flying is an interesting concept, although combat is nothing revolutionary, as you will eventually tire of using the same COMBO attacks and a small handful of Masterwork/Legendary weapons against the same enemy types, enemy AI actually improves at Grandmaster 1 difficulty, but once you have beaten this, it also becomes repetitive.

Due to a current shortage of End Game content, the game feels unfinished, and the above issues turn an otherwise good looking grinding experience into a chore, upcoming patches and free DLC's promise to fix these issues but at this point, your money will be better spent on any of the other current games coming out on the market.

Note: if you have nothing else to play, or have very LOW expectations, you will enjoy this game for a week or two like I have, anyone rating this game 0-3 / 6-10 is most likely a TROLL, do not be fooled, this game is at best an AVERAGE looter shooter, and at worst a BELOW AVERAGE title given it's competition.

the world is so empty and i dont care what you say, this game was so heavily false advertised its criminal. it feels like such a huge chunk of the game was ripped out and we are left with the shell. All these "free updates" imo were already apart of the game but they are going to slowly give us these "updates" back into the game to make it seem like they're doing something. although to combat is fun and the flying is ok but some what limited for 20seconds or so before having to recharge, it doesnt excuse the fact that its worse than vanilla destiny, with so much content ripped from the game it makes vanilla destiny seem like a full game.

id wait a year before getting this when the actual game we should have gotten is ready.

Update: with the games recent update the game has become broken, the loot less rewarding, end game content being deleted from your map,the game constantly glitching out and restarting your game, errors, loading screens lasting 5-10min at times. I highly suggest everyone at this point not buy the game, its already on sale shortly after release as well so give it a while before making a bad investment in this game

Update from latest patch: do not buy this game, i have never felt so unrewarded for my time in my life. th eloot system is broken beyond belief that you could waste hours at end game and feel as if you have achieved nothing.

giving this game a 3/10 is extreamly generous for what is is like atm

Been playing this game quite a bit and I enjoy it a lot. The gameplay feels a lot like mass effect 3 (in a good way) and it's a blast to play with friends. Action and motion feels good, a lot of the abilities are fun and feel solid. I'd definitely say this is more enjoyable with friends than alone, however.

If you are reading reviews I would recommend looking into it a but further yourself and not buy into completely glowing reviews or completely negative bashing reviews. Try not to give in to bias one way or another and be objective. It isn't a perfect game but I have really enjoyed it and and am looking forward to more!

I mean the concept of having four javelins, flying around in an open world like Iron Man, and blowing stuff up is a winning for In and of itself, but only EA knows how to take a grand idea and completely destroy it.

Let me go ahead and talk about what I do like about the game first. You get four javelins to pilot each of which you can switch between at any time you like, all of which feel very distinct from each other, and you aren’t forced to stick with one, which I do like a lot. Gameplay is really fun and engaging with you being able to fire guns and unleash each Javelin’s abilities, in addition to zipping all over the place to rain down hell upon your enemies, set up combos, or flank around them. The game is gorgeous to look at it and the particle effects are spectacular if not somewhat blinding. The customization and ability to create your own unique Javelin is INCREDIBLY satisfying. And lastly the flying, oh man flying around in this game feel absolutely incredible.

... But that’s really all I have nice to say about this game because aside from that this game is RIDDLED with bugs and technical issues. I’ve encountered numerous audio glitches where the audio sounds like it’s skipping a beat, The customization is amazing, but there’s hardly any cosmetics to earn or to buy with coins, I’ve had several crashes, enemies have disappeared right in front of me, the frame rate drops to 20fps, status effects like being frozen completely screw up my javelin, game causes annoying lag when in Freeplay, cutscenes don’t fully play out, the story is just weak & uninspiring, the game is has the most laziest mission design I’ve ever seen in a game, damn near worst than vanilla Destiny, this game has the worst bullet sponges I’ve ever fought in a video game, and I just completed a lair, got to the end, and the little console that’s supposed to take you out didn’t even register.

Like seriously did BioWare even test this game at all, because the amount issues in the game is completely unacceptable. This is a $60 game, it’s not free to play so there’s absolutely no excuse for this and quite frankly BioWare ought be ashamed of themselves for releasing a game in the state that it’s in. Whether this is BioWare or EA’s fault I don’t care, BioWare deserves to get shut down for this because the talent this studio once had is clearly gone. This game feels like it was built by amateurs who had absolutely no clue what the hell they were doing.

    Pros:

    • Spectacular particle effects
    • Absolutely gorgeous graphics
    • 4 very unique javelins to pilot
    • Incredibly detailed customization
    • Intuitive flying mechanics
    • Hiding soooo much potential
    • Satisfying combo system

    Cons:

    • Repetitive & monotonous mission structure
    • Completely boring mission design
    • Annoying bullet sponges
    • Completely broken game plagued with technical issues
    • Game crashes incredibly often
    • Weak uninspiring story
    • No map marker to make navigation easier
    • Doesn’t reward the player enough for their efforts
    • Incredibly lame/poor weapon design
    • Weak uninspiring guns
    • Sheer lack of cosmetic items like armors & gear pieces
    • Incredibly unreasonable grind for coins to purchase cosmetics
    • Forces you to have an Internet connection to play
    • Currently unable to replay story missions
    • Missing key quality of life features

Like for me this is the most broken game I have ever played. I’m not saying it’s worse than Fallout 76 as I’m sure 76 is worse even though I haven’t played it, but for me personally this is the most broken game I have ever played. Hell I’ve played classic retro games that run better than this “Games as Service” garbage. After this I’m never ever buying another “Games as Service” ever again. Thank god I rented Anthem from Red Box and didn’t waste my money on it or I’d be VERY unhappy.

Good job EA, once again you ruin another great game and another once beloved studio. I hope you burn to the ground in the next 10 years, if you even last that long at the rate you’re going.

Most serious is the current bug on PS4 where the game, upon crashing, will hard crash your entire console and force you to cut the power in order to reboot it. This is taking bugs to an extreme where it is actually causing damage to a $400 console.

I wanted to enjoy Anthem, and their is the glimmer of a good game underneath the creation which we received, but with the current state Anthem is in, I feel completely justified in giving it a flat 0.

Sometimes I could get back in after several attempts and minutes, and sometimes I could not. Sometimes I kept loot and sometimes not. I stopped playing after it completely shut down my PS4 and I had to run through the diagnostics to start it up again. I can't risk mt PS4 dying because of the errors and build of this game.

Flying is fun, exploring new world is fun but not enough to overcome major issues
    1. technical errors/ problems
    2. mapping - where are events? where are team members? How do I know someone is down and needs to be revived? When I need to be revived all I can do is just sit there with no hope of coming back without revive and can't see anything except my downed prospective. Can't crawl towards a safe place to revive. Can't see through my team mates eyes, etc.
    3. I pick up a weapon and can't use it until getting through several loading screens and back to fort? Fat chance of me getting through those without getting kicked.
( I understand not being able to use armor pieces immediately, but guns? That I am obviously holding because I bring back to the fort? WHAT??!!?!!)
    4. very repetitive. I felt I was completing same mission over and over. kill, defend and fetch. over. and over. and over. I waited years for this game. It is not the game promised and hyped.

I am done with pre-ordering. I did it with Fallout and said never again for Bethesda, and now Anthem has finally got me to say no more to any game.

If you enjoyed Mass Effect's combat style then you will probably like Anthem's combat. The story, yes not compelling but it's not really supposed to be in this style of shared experience game. Don't expect a rich story or deep characters, expect fun content and good visuals. My rating of a six is based largely on the fact that I found this game to be next to unplayable on Xbox One. I upgraded to an Xbox One X and the experience is much better. I full expect there to be some future support for Anthem, the 'games as a service' model has worked very well for Ubi and I think we will see EA on that bandwagon as well with this title. Expand

The gameplay is something quite new, that on top of beautiful graphics is definitely making a great impression, and that's as far as the positive aspects go. The first impression goes away within 10h, so you're left dealing with game that has a TONS of loading screens, short, shallow story, small map that's mostly empty, THREE STRONGHOLDS ("endgame"), uninteresting loot, and almost no armors. All you do is play with colors - that's pretty much as far as customization goes. Weapons are uninteresting, all feel the same. There's literally a handful of weapons and all that changes is their rarity and level. As far as I can see 3x weapons of each type, and there's like 6 or 7 types. Stupid and completely ridiculous design choices that are worse than all mistakes looter-shooter games in the past did (Destiny, Division). Question comes to mind what in the hell did they do for SEVEN YEARS!? You put in 10h, 20h max and you're done. You've seen it all, there's nothing more. Anthem is a strong contender for the worst game of 2019 and I'm pretty sure it will take the crown at the end of the year. I'm not even hating, I really had high hopes, and I really, really tried to like this game. I wanted this to be successful but it won't be, bugs aside - this game's core is so broken it's beyond repair. You had one chance bioware. And little online (in my country, idk what in other countries (I live in Sweden)) is a proof. Sorry, BioWare... but YOU need to give apologies, not me. Thanks for wasting my time, Electronic Arts! I will never buy FIFAs anymore. And never donate to your games... and never buy them. Expand

The vitriol for this game is completely unwarranted.

You don't like EA? Don't bother with their releases. You've gone off BioWare because they 'don't make games like KOTOR anymore'. Unfortunately, that's the way it is. This game is far from perfect, but it is a very solid start and with some tweaks I'm sure it's going to become an excellent game. Once April rolls around and new content has been released and the game has had a couple more patches, maybe we will start to see a clearer picture of the direction BioWare are going with this. Right now, it's just a hell of a lot of fun, and addictive to boot.

Instead of writing a massive essay, I'll throw down some pros and cons:

    Pros:
    -Flying is delightful
-The game is absolutely beautiful. Graphically, wonderful.
-The battling is a lot of fun and not too complicated.
    -The physics are almost perfect.
-The teamwork aspect of it is great and, at the moment (on the PS4), everyone seems to be keen to join forces and work together to complete missions/objectives.
-Plenty of customization opportunities for each Javeling (exosuit)
-Each javelin plays completely differently and changes the way you approach situations. For example: I am currently spending most time in the Storm javelin which has mage-like abilities (elemental attacks etc), but is weaker than the others. The Storm javelin allows you to hover for much longer than the other suits so you can hover above the battlefield and rain down holy hell. very satisfying. The colossus, though, is the tank javelin and that's barging in and blowing the crap out of everything. It also has an ability to essentially taunt enemies and force them to attack it. As it has the best defence (by far), it can take a lot of punishment.
-Plenty of loot to go and find and plenty of variation (I think).
-Being able to customize your exosuit paint job is awesome (and no, not using microtransactions).
-No microtransactions for anything other than cosmetics (different suit parts which don't affect abilities).
-Story is interesting and I'm intrigued as to where they will go with it.
-BioWare already set out a 90 day road map of new content - starting in March with the next Act of the story plus other things.
-Bioware already released 3 patches over the weekend (one was 10gb) fixing some initial issues.

    Cons
-Long loading times. This needs to be remedied really. It doesn't bother me as much as it appears to be bothering others, though.
-The characters have no base stat information so I'm still a little unsure of what my character's overall stats are after customizing them.
-Could do with a few more mission/objective types, but I'm sure that will come. Really missed a beat not having some kind of flying chase mission. Maybe later on. It's so much fun battling and flying around that, for now, there's enough variation for me. It reminds me of Diablo 3 in this sense. It's Diablo 3, with guns and flying (but much more beautiful and, dare I say it, fun!). Diablo 3 really is just fighting through hordes of enemies and collecting loot. Very few other things going on in that game. Very few puzzles or anything like that, but it's a hell of a lot of fun. Same with this, except there are a few different types of mission that you have. Protecting people, putting a relic back together whilst fighting off a Scar horde, collecting data for someone etc. It's mostly about the loot and, for now, there's more than enough of that. They will need to add to it though eventually!

I've seen too many reviews from people who haven't even played the game. Absolutely toxic and pathetic. Rent the game if you're not sure whether to buy it and see for yourself. If you like it, great. If you don't, there are plenty of other games out there for you.

Not as a single player story based game, as that is not what it is, I’m not going to rate it as mass effect 4, as that isn’t what it is. This has more in common with a game like Diablo than it does a classic Bioware story based single player adventure. I will be giving my honest opinion from playing the game over this weekend, around 12 hours and I will amend should my opinion change further in.i

Firstly, the presentation of this game is great, the feel of movement, flight, combat are all strong and although I suspect built on the building blocks of ME’s third person shooting but a fair bit tighter. The setting is large, sprawling, beautiful and interesting. This large scale area can be a bit empty, but there are rare chests, hidden areas of interest, codex entries and lore for places of interest should that be something you want to delve into.

The player hub which is a town to pick up missions talk to NPC’s to get some more info on the world and access your javelin to customise it and equip different skills, weapons or buffs which are all loot picked up from enemy drops or chests found dropped from completed events. One thing I found jarring from this is playing a mission with friends, you all go back to town, talk to people, amend your loadout watch a cutscene, but your squad may all be at different parts of the story, meaning there can be a lot of waiting, and whilst the plot interests me and the conversations I want to be engaged in I do find myself distracted worrying about holding up my friends while they wait for me. But the town is where you find the story and interesting characters you may expect from single player bioware titles but much in simpler form mainly because this isn’t an epic single player bioware game but a looter shooter with bioware flavour. This shouldn’t surprise anyone.

The game is really fun to play, the loot is varied and interesting a good number of skills to interchange and combo with eachother, components to boost damage types, weapon types, and all gear including weapons can bolster your skills too so with some gear some great combinations can be equipped to suit your build or compliment your allies abilities. Which for me is enough to say that this game is enjoyable, it’s fun to play and I truly believe I will be playing it for some time.

One criticism I do have from playing is the mission types seem similar, it’s fight several waves of enemies, guard an area for a time/pick up objects nearby and collect them together, defeat a boss. Mission complete, this is also similar in free roam with the random events so it’s not very imaginative. But the core gameplay is fun, and the bosses are interesting so far, so that doesn’t bother me much.

In Summary, I do not think this is a 10, but I know this is not a 0, this is a 7-8 in my opinion with the potential to grow with its evolving world and planned free additional content. I am basing my opinion on my enjoyment of the game and not out of nostalgic loyalty to Bioware, politics or a general dislike of EA. Some pro’s and con’s.

    Pros
Beautiful local with points of interest to explore.
Tight and challenging combat that encourages teamwork.
A decent loot system including skills as loot.
Interesting Javelins that play and feel different.
A good fun multiplayer looter shooter.
Town parts and conversations are interesting and a bioware seasoning upon this different style game

    Cons
Town conversations cutscenes make multiplayer awkward at times.
Not good variation of mission types, only 3-4 formulas that are repeated

Rewarding this an 8 on light of the above comments and based on my own experience of the game. I will edit this once further in should the above change as I progress.

The numerous amount of loading screens that takes way too long and ruins the pace of play in the game. And Fort Tarsis feeling like you are walking in a graveyard. This is not the same game that we've seen when they introduced this new IP back at E3 three years ago.

Now this game does have potential and can become a really good game with gamers have full customization with their javelins, which you can't really find in AAA games anymore. And the roadmap for the game showing exciting events coming up for the next three months. But, if you are reading this review to decide if you are going to buy this game, i would say wait three months to see what BioWare has done to improve the quality of life and playability of Anthem. I say that because right now this game is not the AAA game we were expecting and its also not worth 60+ dollars with all the issues and headaches that comes when trying to experience that game and make you regret spending that amount of money for a half-cooked game. Now, maybe my experience will change over time with Anthem, but right now, this is my opinion of the game.

The game suffers from network issues that are getting worse by the day. They have become so bad that i had to google the end cut scene just because the game lost connection and counted the mission as complete.
Edit: Connection issues now happen that need to close the game. Closing the game crashes my PS4
    for some reason as well.
Micro transaction are not to bad the price of items for in game currency was defiantly increased but the cosmetic items don't look that great that you would want to spend real world money on them so far.
The game is repetitive but you have to expect that in a looter shooter and the javelin mechanics do make it fun.
I rarely ran into any bugs but the connection problems are a huge issue.

if the game fixed the connection problems and the story for future expansions if any are massively improved then the game could be a 7.
at this point the game is a 4 if not for the connection issues being so frequent id give it a 5 but the game does show that it was not ready for release.
Edit: I now rate the game a 2 since the network issues are still getting worse and now its becoming a danger to my system.

Game incomplete released. Missing end-game content. All missions are very similar. Very poor customization. Constant disconnections. Lots of bugs. Frame Drops in areas with many enemies is recurring and annoying. But the worst is that the game sold at full price is still full of micro-transactions. I do not buy an EA game again.

It seems that when they were acquired by Electronics Arts; many of their games have had trouble, due to EA’s thirst for monetization and demand for deadlines. EA is killing games and BioWare is one of their victims.

I buy my games, I do not rely on developers codes and I do not get paid to review games. For me, if a game is not fun, it is not a good game. If a game is unfinished, it is not a good game. If the game is a grind, it is not a good game.

I play games for entertainment and I am not beholden to being blacklisted if I give a bad review so here it goes.

The graphics of this game are a bag of mixed nuts. Some areas are simply beautiful, some areas are full of pop-ins, and for the most part, after the first hour I was frustrated. Additionally the loading screens are horrendous. Finally I found myself getting dizzy.

This game is unfinished with boring missions, boring and some unnecessary NPC who for some reason want to tell you their life stories. The enemies and basically the same and the main villain is treated poorly.

I want to go on, but simply put, I cannot get my money back so I am left with reselling the game or trade it in, which is a shame since again, BioWare did not deliver on its promise.

I end with one question: Why BioWare, why have you given us another vanilla shooter?

Sure, there's a few bits and pieces that need to be polished and a few bugs, but nothing game breaking in my opinion. There was in the demo, no argument there, but since they patched on release, the game has been running very smoothly for me. I'm on a PS4 Pro with an SSD which helps with the loading screes, but they are definitely not as long as people say/think. I wait longer for strikes in Destiny, or a match in Rocket league most of the time.

The game is FUN. It's really cool to zoom around the map like Iron Man, and come crashing down on your enemies. One thing I would point out to newer players is don't worry so much about your guns, they're useful, but you do more damage with abilitites. Learn how to combo, and work with your team and the game is way easier and more fun.

I've put around 30 hours into the game now, I think and I really have no complaints. Considering I got the game for $66 AU, I'm very happy witht my purchase so far.

Comparing the gameplay with Destiny and The Division, Anthem is MUCH MORE fun than those two, specially when you select harder dificulties later on. Its really challenging and teamplay is essencial.

Unfortunately, the major mechanics of the game are broken. The loot system seems quite unimpressive, even when you defeat hard stances (called fortress here), boring items, few weapons designs (even the same models with diferent stats... LAZY!). Before the launch, Bioware showed us tons of cosmetic appearances for us to choose and buy with in-game money or real money if you want. Where are those? Cosmetic shop is a JOKE! Not even woth spend time farming for those items.

Loading screens are also stupid! Imo, its look like they had problems during the production of Anthem, because there is 5 types of zones that needs loading every 10-20 minutes:

1 - NPC area (where you grab your quests, talk to NPC for missions and choose stupid dialogues that there is NONE repercussion in the game. Like, why they implemented it? Its useless..
2 - Lobby area. You can meet other random players here. A small garage with some short cut to grab contracts, use your vault, and etc... its basicaily Social area of Destiny 10x worse.
3 - FORGE. YES, you need a load screen to access your itens. Never seen this in my life... one thing is prevent switch equipments during a misson (im ok with that 100%). Other is a damn loading screen in and out of the inventory.
4 - Loading screen for world map.
5 - Loading screen for dungeons and sarcophagus rooms (yeah you know what im talking about LOL).

Map is almost useless. Cant ping, cant mark, no N/S/E/W, no world events mark, no nothing. Crap!

Imo, every one who is in doubt of grabbing this game should wait until the major patch coming in april or may, OR at least fix these issues that i mentioned.

Like i said, gameplay wise its the best loot shooter game in this generation, but all the other thing are poor.

Yes gameplay is fun BUT having basicly same amount of content as Destiny after it failed miserably because of that reason and release the game in a state that does feel like a alpha build and yes i mean that it feels even worse than a beta build. And unlike a lot of co-op games, we're not leaving each other behind by playing alone--everything scales and we can join each other's missions and freeplay sessions and help each other out. It is a glaring omission that there are no non-voice communication options beyond a couple of emotes--but BW has already made updates that *have improved* the game (being on PS4 w/out early access, I'm seeing a huge improvement from the Demo weekends to release and am really encouraged by the improvements). Is it a finished game? Probably not, but it has so much potential, and wasn't Destiny a disappointment when it first released too? And you have to pay out the ass for every xpack. This doesn't seem to be the case with Anthem... you can choose to get vanity items or not and it doesn't detract from the gameplay. My big fear is that they'll give up on this game like they did Andromeda--which was also hugely improved after release, and knowing no single player xpacks were coming for that just sucked my motivation out of wanting to finish it. Anthem's combat and mechanics are a lot of fun to play, co-op has a lot of potential (contextual communication wheel ala Fortnite maybe?) and I've even had a good time teaming up with rando's to defeat Titans in freeplay. I'm not giving up on it. Expand

Total uninspired drag. Does what it needs to mechanically...kind of like watching Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2 from the early 2010's. By the numbers, soulless, not special.

This game deserves a 2/10. 1 point for the gameplay, and one point for the graphics. That's all this game has to offer. Absurdly repetitive grinding. Story? What story? Poor BioWare ruined but it's publisher...

Very good game, fun, has a good lore and great gameplay. For those who like this type of game is excellent. it's a bit repetitive but it's normal in this style of play

Anthems World design is incredible! Each Javelin feels unique and fun in their own way, with build diversity somewhat akin to Diablo 3. Great for looties and abilities. Good times to be had here.

There isn’t much innovation. The loot is bland and uninspired which is one of my biggest gripes. The world is beautiful but every location looks similar, fighting around a few rocks. I skip most of the storyline which says a lot. The seamless transition that was promised in this world is actually full of loading screens. For a game in the making for 6 years it’s not good enough. Fed up with devs releasing unfinished games then working in them over time. Might as well wait a few years then buy the complete game at half the cost. If you have the money to spend then buy and enjoy it for what it is. But if cash is tight, i’d Pass for now. Expand

There's a good game in here somewhere, but only the flashy, satisfying combat stands out amongst a background mess of shockingly bad design decisions and woefully undercooked systems. ANTHEM feels unfinished and, frankly, undeserving of your time when there are much better live titles currently available on PS4. Check back in a year from now, and we might be onto something. 1080p graphicsThere's a good game in here somewhere, but only the flashy, satisfying combat stands out amongst a background mess of shockingly bad design decisions and woefully undercooked systems. This is what happens when a terrible Publisher forces a good company to make a cash-grab clone with the depth of a puddle.

I've played PC and PS4 and I can say without a doubt this is a console game. It just runs so much better than PC. This game has a lot of fun mechanics that work well together and the story is mediocre as a stand alone, but what was released is chapter one. This should be considered when reviewing the story and as such I can't go beyond it's decent so far.

The end game is very shallow

The end game is very shallow and players should not race to get to end game for the first few weeks. You could do this in week easy, but you would cheat yourself.

The gameplay is scarred by a few nasty bugs or mechanics decisions, but thus far Bioware has delivered on fixes. Through the onset I constantly saw comments of "no way this can get fixed in before beta". Bioware fixed it. Then I saw, no way can this be fixed for early release on PC. Bioware fixed it. Then the hatred crept in and I saw "This game is unsalvageable, no way the day 1 patch could fix things". Well, it definitely fixed issues for me. Bioware has earned a little patience from me to see where they are going. This is definitely a game to try. Also if reviewers gave fallout 76 a 6/10 this deserves at least that.

Anthem is a game that is going to become amazing in two months+ time. Right now, it has amazing gameplay mechanics and feedback loops. Sure, it has a few bugs but that's on EA's side of things for not giving BioWare enough time. This is not a classic BioWare game, it's new, it's different and if you give it a try, you may love it. Great Gameplay experience. yes a few bugs here and there and load screens, but as a Game, Anthem is far better than what Division or Destiny was at launch. Javelins Rocks! Much better than any other gameplay experience.

Even Monster Hunter World is comparable though obviously more set apart due to its structure. Let's go through the critical issues one by one.

Bugs - Many of the bugs critics complained about are already squashed and the rest obviously will be squashed. There's no way Bioware is going to let them be. Comparisons to Fallout 76 are a downright lie and whoever spreads those lies should be ashamed of themselves. I've experienced some minor bugs and so the game does lose some score for that.

Story - Look, it's not Mass Effect but mainly because it's linear, not because it is any less quality. I am very much enjoying getting to know the colorful cast around Fort Tarsis and there is at least one twist I didn't see coming. Now sure, not everyone has to love the story, everyone is allowed to have their opinion. However, the story of Anthem leaves Warframe, Destiny, and Division in the dust and that's indisputable. Anyone saying otherwise is lying to you.

Graphics - Everyone agrees these are great.

Sound - Everyone agrees this is great.

Gameplay - Everyone agrees this is great. It's super fun. The combo system is a joy and unlike Destiny you can make some actually diverse builds with the gear in the game. None of the 4 Javelins plays the same. I stomp around the battlefield like Hulkbuster Iron Man in my Colossus and am constantly cycling between all my abilities. From sprinting through mobs with my shield, to air slams, to mortars, to flamethrowers, throw in some auto cannon and grenade launcher, and just keep on going. Anthem is an Iron Man simulator and it is a glorious one.

Endgame grind - Is pretty typical for this genre. Now, grinding isn't for everyone! That's cool. However, the grind is absolutely comparable to anything in Destiny, Warframe, Division, etc. If you don't like the grind in this game, you just don't like looter shooters.

EA hating - I mean, I'm totally with you that EA is a bad company but I'm not going to drag down a good game just to hate on EA.

Microtransactions - Are only for cosmetics, and all DLC is free. Yes, it sucks to have micro transactions in paid games but we crossed that bridge a while ago and it's a thing now. I won't drag down a good game to hate on micro transactions.

Day one patches - Yes, it sucks that games release and need day one patches. Again, why should we drag Anthem through the mud to complain about that practice? It is also a lot more forgivable with a game like Anthem as it is a live service that will evolve over time. You don't like these new live service games? Bully for you, don't play them, Cyberpunk is being worked on as we speak, doesn't mean Anthem deserves to be dragged down. Personally, I enjoy the journey we take with these live service games, still have fond memories of the Year 1 Triumphs from Destiny.

Overall, the core fundamentals of this game are solid and a blast. There are some minor rough edges that need polishing, some UI fixes, some bug squashing. You skip this game because of the critics, you're missing out.

There’s an intriguing game buried somewhere in Anthem, lying broken beneath its loot and structural frustrations like chunks of fossilised dinosaur bone.

Even if I ignore all the bugs, glitches and disconnects I had, Anthem is still, by and large, a mediocre game. The lackluster story, loot system and gameplay make this game one to pass on. At least in its current state.

Though it’s one of best-looking titles on PS4, Anthem’s uninspired action and obsession with grindy tasks mean BioWare’s mechs aren’t on song. [Issue#160, p.83]
