This game was released absolutely broken. It doesn´t deserve any kind of gameplay evaluation. Will take a long time to EA, Bioware or whatever they get envolved to see my money again.

Bought this game June 2019, I played through the whole campaign and all of the strongholds. Missions all feel largely the same and uncreative. Graphics are decent but not mind blowing even on xbox one x. I would say that the game crashed back to the opening screen approximately 50% of the time after mission end leading to even longer load times to get back in than they already are. The story is uninteresting generic sci-fi loaded with overt and subliminal SJW propaganda (like most EA games) which you may or may not enjoy. I never felt the desire to customize my character at all after the initial build. The guns are generic as well, I found the LMG to be the only useful one. The character voice acting is good but it's hard to care about any of it and the choices made in the conversations do not seem to greatly impact anything. It is unclear what the motivation is to continue playing this after the credits role. It was a chore just to get that far. Expand

    So short summary:
    - Graphics, just state of the art not more (seen better on PS4)
    - A lot of bugs and crashes (still not fixed!) - The iron-man like fly is very funny and is very cool - Loading time is okay when you have an SSD installed in PS4, otherwise it is a joke - Fighting/Shooting compared to Destiny 2 feels not so well - Menus straight out of hell Currently I’d recommend

Currently I’d recommend to spend your money for one of the many other coop shooter.

First of all, I was about to just skip Anthem, because of the bad critics. However, a friend came up with the idea to play it as squad of 4, team of friends. We played other looter shooter or coop games in general in our 4 men static party. So we bought Anthem for 20 Bucks on PS4. So we were about “just let’s have some fun.”.
And we tried to have it, but the point is that the game is still not finished, it is full of bugs and unstable. There was nearly no session where not one of us had a game crash or stuck in loading screen. Sometimes one of us was not able to join the squad. It happens several times that the “connection to server was lost” during some kind of boss fight. Funny thing, it happened 3 times at the same boss.
We don’t care for the story, looter shooter… the game tries to tell an epic story, but it isn’t at all. It is annoying to run from npc to npc in town just to get ready for the next mission. They should replace the town for a text-based menu.
Menu, next point. I don’t like the menu in this game. It is too bulky, slow, never had issues with menus in games, but this is just annoying.
We played it for about 30 hours. And we stopped for another, real AAA Looter Shooter.

On the day of February 22nd I got home from school and immediately started playing. Then well the first loading screen took 5 minutes. I was annoyed but thought "They'll fix that" so I started playing. Well I was shocked. It was terrible but I kept playing thinking that the end game will be amazing because hey that's the case with many games. But well guess what it wasn't. Through about 4 weeks I slowly racked up about 40 hours into the game and then I just quite. I had a lot of loot and none of it was interesting so I got really bored. I write this review now because of cataclysms. Thinking they would like raids from destiny. And they weren't. They were terrible dumb mindless modes of just killing adds. DON'T BUY ANTHEM!!!!

Anthem is the perfect mix between... a mediocre Destiny and an awful Warframe. I think it is simply the biggest disappointment ever in my entire gamer's life. Congrats.

    Pros :
+ Graphics are nice most of the time
+ Animations and lip-sync are good
    + Gameplay is smooth

    Cons :
    - Everything else!

This game could've been a top tier Third-Person Shooter, except, it isent. The gameplay is bad. the only "good" thing on the gameplay is the flying mode, but the rest is stupid. Its an incomplete game, bad combat mechanics and SEVERAL bugs, the frame is terrible and the story is lame. Onlne is useless. They really shoud've used more of the flying.

The numerous amount of loading screens that takes way too long and ruins the pace of play in the game. And Fort Tarsis feeling like you are walking in a graveyard. This is not the same game that we've seen when they introduced this new IP back at E3 three years ago.

Now this game does have potential and can become a really good game with gamers have full customization with their javelins, which you can't really find in AAA games anymore. And the roadmap for the game showing exciting events coming up for the next three months. But, if you are reading this review to decide if you are going to buy this game, i would say wait three months to see what BioWare has done to improve the quality of life and playability of Anthem. I say that because right now this game is not the AAA game we were expecting and its also not worth 60+ dollars with all the issues and headaches that comes when trying to experience that game and make you regret spending that amount of money for a half-cooked game. Now, maybe my experience will change over time with Anthem, but right now, this is my opinion of the game.

After seeing Anthem presented at E3, I was sold. Bought the digital version. Played three missions without excitement and noticed that I had encountered a situation where suddenly I couldn't carry on with storyline. Well I decided to end my storyline with Anthem and deleted the game. First time I even would want a refund of this gaming experience. So many expectations and promises not fulfilled.

Same with mech enhancements.
I spent months playing Warframe, which is just as grindy, but it offered so many different things to aim for that it kept me hooked. Here you'll probably have fun during the campaign, especially if you play with friends, but after that there is literally nothing. The missions are always the same, and more powerful enemies are simply the same enemies with higher stats. I didn't last one month.

2 things this game does very well:

    The music is very good.

The characters are great, well acted, and interesting.

The story is a real let down, it feels unfinished anti-climatic, dull.

The flying feels great, but it's extremely limited flight time is a real irritation for no apparent reason.

The combat/ abilities are good, each javelin feels unique and useful.

The loot is boring, doesn't seem to matter much, an absolute death knell for this kind of game, how do you screw that up? Definitely something they can fix though.

The voice chat is very poor and doesn't seem like anyone even tries to use it anymore, there is no written chat, this game feels very much like you are playing alone, not a good thing for this kind of game, this game is hurt by it's poorly functioning online features and offers no benefit in return. UPDATE: had to downgrade the score and give it a 2/10 the game just got worse! i feel like bioware is shooting themselves in the foot! i really love bioware but todays bioware is just a disaster! i wish i could love this game but i just cant anymore ! it crashes my ps4 everytime i play it ! there is absolutely nothing to do in the game after you finish the campaign, and the game itself is buggy AF!!!! its so buggy the game itself is a huge bug!!! anyhow im out of space here but please do your self a favor and stay away from this game ! PLAY WARFRAME !! trust me you wont regret it its more polished and its free and the microtransactions are worth it (you dont have to even buy microtransactions in warframe you can just grind the game doesnt force you to pay, anthem indeed does force you to pay more than what you already bought plus anthem is way more trash than warframe !) anyhow dont spend your time and money on anthem go to warframe!

Most of the things people are complaining about are inaccurate, and are just people hating on EA. Form your own opinion, and give this a chance. - Edit: I tried to support it, but every update makes something worse, and content is releasing at much too slow a rate. Everyone is down the developers throats and rightfully so but i believe that EA is really to blame. BioWare has been making games that cater to their audience. There are some dedicated BioWare fans out there that will live and die by their games and for good reason. I firmly believe that Anthem's downfall is completely to blame on EA. As long as I've been gaming i have come to realize first and foremost that EA does not like to compete. NBA Live pretty much disappeared for YEARS because 2K was just a better game and had the basketball audience captivated. They've since then released new games and they're still not as good and they don't seem eager to compete at all. Remember Medal of Honor. In concept it was a great game and my friends and I loved it but because of a ton of bugs EA gave up on it and it was never spoken about again. I'm pretty sure the Battlefield team ran out of new innovative ideas thus after Battlefield 4 they went back in history as to not compete with Call of Duty's more modern games. EA owes us our $60 back for selling us a "complete game" that was clearly still in Alpha phase. All just to beat Division 2, which in change i think they actually booted Division 2's sales because how horrible Anthem was. I gave this game a 1 because the flying was actually really cool. Outside of that, the game gave me nothing to come back for. Loot was sparse, enemies were all the same, the weapons were just about all the same, when i did get loot it was almost the same thing, the missions were literally all exactly the same. At least have the enemies spawn from different points. The load screens were absolutely horrible. I haven't waited that long for anything to load since trying to watch porn on dial up internet when i was a kid. What actually made this game the absolute worst was the fact that your console was literally in danger for trying to run it. This game bricked my system for a day. I thought it would not turn back on and Sony will not do anything for you because in all reality it's not their fault. Its 100% on the game devs that it bricks your system. EA and BioWare need to come together and scrap this and give everyone their money back or take their time and make Anthem 2 as a free to play phenomenon. Expand

Perhaps people just expected too much. Maybe it helps that I wasn't even aware of the game until the free trial beta weekend. I've seen the developers work on patching in a timely manner, and they take all of the feedback they get from players into account as far as I can tell. I pre-ordered Anthem and even bought a copy for my best friend because of the early E3 trailer and later "actual gameplay" trailer. Well let me tell you, those videos were outright LIES that are illegal under US law. The game: - Can't even be played at most times due to server instability issues -

I pre-ordered Anthem and even bought a copy for my best friend because of the early E3 trailer and later "actual gameplay" trailer. Well let me tell you, those videos were outright LIES that are illegal under US law.

    The game:

    - Can't even be played at most times due to server instability issues
    - Forces you to hit a loading screen for practically everything you want to do
    - There are still constant Pilot Error Data bugs which prevent you from even getting into the one single instanced town in the game (where you start from on login)
    - The combat is a joke since combat is based on scaling (ie a lvl1 player joining their friend will do more DPS with a lvl1 gun than someone with a full MasterWork loadout)
    - Is horribly designed from the ground up
    - Lacks any true end-game and BioWare's 90-day Games As Service model puts the first event a full 3 months after launch which effectively kills the game in terms of the majority of players
    - Is a looter shooter..... WITH NO LOOT. The Devs refuse to make the loot rain despite receiving a THOROUGH post by Diablo 3's director who revamped D3's loot with 2.0
    - The crafting system is now unusable since the harvest nodes you farm to get crafting material with were nerfed into oblivion and harvesting is now a waste of time

I could go on and on about how terrible this game is, but the gist is that Anthem is a buggy mess that has far too many issues connecting to it's own servers for even a single-player instanced walk around Tarsis.

Do NOT spend your money on Anthem. And I HIGHLY recommend not buying any more BioWare or EA games ever again unless you want to be looked at as a cash cow meant to be strung along to pay for low-effort DLC, loot boxes, and low-effort cosmetics that aren't even what the players want.

I am only about 8 hours and am really enjoying my time so far, I have heard that the missions and enemy types can get repetitive and I believe that will happen for me, I paid £50 for the game, ill probably put 30 hours into it as a minimum, money well spent in my eyes

Ill edit my review when I am deeper into the game, but it gets a solid 7 so far

the world is so empty and i dont care what you say, this game was so heavily false advertised its criminal. it feels like such a huge chunk of the game was ripped out and we are left with the shell. All these "free updates" imo were already apart of the game but they are going to slowly give us these "updates" back into the game to make it seem like they're doing something. although to combat is fun and the flying is ok but some what limited for 20seconds or so before having to recharge, it doesnt excuse the fact that its worse than vanilla destiny, with so much content ripped from the game it makes vanilla destiny seem like a full game.

id wait a year before getting this when the actual game we should have gotten is ready.

Update: with the games recent update the game has become broken, the loot less rewarding, end game content being deleted from your map,the game constantly glitching out and restarting your game, errors, loading screens lasting 5-10min at times. I highly suggest everyone at this point not buy the game, its already on sale shortly after release as well so give it a while before making a bad investment in this game

Update from latest patch: do not buy this game, i have never felt so unrewarded for my time in my life. th eloot system is broken beyond belief that you could waste hours at end game and feel as if you have achieved nothing.

To put it simple, do you want to gun down enemies like Destiny and earn loot, this is it. Fof everyone else you can keep going to something else.

Nowadays, to make a game-service, a very slippery track.

Developer’s view of the start and development plan, these things are beyond our understanding.

There was hope for patch 1.0.5

    But he - could not.

The sound also lags and buggy in the free mode, as well as new problems.

It is not worth 60 dollars (even at a big discount)

Waiting for her in ps plus.

Even now, weeks after launch, I am still experiencing an unacceptable number of technical bugs. From the scores and from the potentially poor sales numbers the game is receiving, people have had it with games being launched in a state that would make the word Alpha blush. I don't care how ambitious your game is, I don't care what road bumps came up during development; it is unethical and simply bad business practice to release a game that is not ready. If the game isn't ready THEN DON'T RELEASE IT. Simple. Why I seem frustrated is because this game at it's core is very fun and very addictive. It had the chance to be a great looter shooter with a robust gameplay loop. Instead the developers have decided to keep dicking around with the player base and keep the loot economy crippled, despite everyone's incessant call for loot changes, Bioware had decided that they know best, and their game will fail for it. Bioware doesn't have the luxury of debating game direction with their fans. They are lucky to still have any at all. I would say simply that unless you are a die-hard looter shooter fan like me, steer clear of this title. If you want a looter shooter fill then maybe try out Division 2. Hopefully it launches in a better state. Expand

ORIGINAL: I'm going to be honest right here. I want so much to love this game. It has SO much potential, but it is unacceptable how many bugs and glitches there are. As a gamer, I am actually okay with a delay of a game if it's necessary. In fact, delays are sometimes necessary. This game NEEDED to be delayed.

I picked this game up on Day One. HDR was broken, and I'm not playing a crappy looking game without HDR on my 4K HDR TV. 2nd time that I tried playing this game, I couldn't even get in because there was a problem with the servers. 3rd time, I was in the middle of a mission and I got the PS4 error blue screen. Then, after playing for a solid 4 hours, my guns suddenly disappearing off my Javelin in between missions. This is unacceptable.

Before buying this game, I went solely off the videos released for this game. It looks awesome. It actually feels awesome. I like that I can wreck things using the Colossus. I love how beautiful the game looks, and that I can fly around in an "Avatar-like" world.

    Here are my gripes:
    1) The amount of bugs and glitches, including trophy glitches. Then again, this is something I should expect from EA at this point. Don't want a bad reputation? Stop being dumb.
    2) Why is there overheating when I'm flying? Seriously. It's an annoyance.
    3) The missions are predictable and feel like busy work. Kill X amount of enemies, find X amount of runes, etc.
    4) The enemies are bland and boring.
    5) There is one area. Destiny had a variety of planets and enemies (although I'm not a Destiny lover..I have my problems with that game as well).
    6) WHY IN THE WORLD DO I HAVE TO GO TO THE FORGE EVERY TIME I WANT TO CHANGE MY WEAPONS?!?!?
    7) Why no mini map or custom icons? When I go collectible hunting, this makes it easier. Come on EA, you're a AAA developer.

I truly feel like this game were rushed and deserved a few more betas. Gamestop has a trade-in deal for this game before next week, so I'm going to play what I can, trade it in, and pick it up later for cheap when it's more complete. Sorry Bioware, but this was a mis-step. Focus on Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

-The story is very bad, predictable and childish. The characters have no charisma.

It's a pity they did not wait to get it out when fully developed. When it came out it could have been a very developed beta. Right now the game sinks content endgame in addition to failures in the loot system that would have been solved if they had tested it before.

The most positive thing is that EA is listening attentively to the community and they are adding big patches every so often.
It is a very ambitious project to abandon it so I am sure that in a short time we will be facing a huge game.

Which no matter how fun the game is when you see these stories coming out it will be in the back of your mind. That being said I still had a bunch of fun when it came down to it.

Anthem has one of those ancients created old technology and we must stop baddy from accessing it. For some reason almost all Sci-fi games fall on this trope and I am not sure why. Regardless I was still enjoying the story. While your character never is more than a cypher that CAN TALK they never are more than a snarky badass. Your AI mission helpers/quest givers are full of personality and fun. I did enjoy the talking bits much more than I thought I would. Unlike Destiny, which this game is ripping off partly. They explain the plot right there not once did I wonder why I was doing anything, or why I was killing these villains. Yet again unlike Destiny they have multiple cutscenes that function like little exposition movies that are beautiful and entertaining to watch.

Speaking of beautiful this game looks amazing. I was in awe by the scope and look of each plant and explosion. The gameplay is if you were Iron Man on a distant planet blowing aliens to pieces. It is a third person action game with a dash of RPG in the mix. Of course it has loot drops for better weapons and you can play raids with friends, or even the story missions. What I adore was the fact that I could just play the story missions solo and not feel like I was being forced to play online. At least Bioware had the good sense to let me play their games how I want and not how EA wants.

Overall the game is a lot of fun, and with friends I could see the replay value through the roof. Yet if you’re me I don’t see myself going through this story more than once. It is more fleshed out then say Destiny is, but nowhere near how any other Bioware game typically is. I would say this game would be a great RENTAL. Play it over the weekend and send it back to Gamefly/Redbox you won’t be disappointed with it.

For me the combat and flight is really fluid and the upgrade/progression system is strong, the world is beautiful but feels dead, after finishing the game I had no idea what the Anthem is nor what it meant and its real significance.. running around in the base is also too slow and there is so much dialogue after every mission its ridiculous, I stopped caring half way through and smashed that skip button, there are still dodgy connection issues, and a metric crapton of bugs, missions don't have variety and is a rinse repeat model. the game lacks purpose.. and diversity.

The sheer amount of loading screens often lasting 1-2mins each is frustrating on top of the fact that endgame quickplay on GM1+ is always dropping you into either bugged missions or finished missions (!!) so you'reloading in and out all the time is gamebreaking.

Originally rated 5 but downgraded rating to 2 after spending 20+hrs endgame, the game has broke me in a way in which I stopped caring about the game. time to move on.

This game has so much potential but it is in reality absolutely terrible. Probably the worst gaming experience I have had ever. If I sit down for a 2 hour gaming session I probably get about 15 minutes or actual game play and that is so buggy and filled with lag that it's not even enjoyable. As much as I used to love Bioware, I hope they are disbanded so that talent can reemerge elsewhere.
