The gameplay isn't bad. Sort of an open world GI Joe game. The humor fell flat with me. It runs pretty poorly on the PS4, sometimes going down to the teens when alot of stuff is happening. It's to the level of an SNL parody on politcal correctness (back when they actually made fun of political correctness). On a team of 15 agents there's not one but TWO lesbians, both of whom are romantically involved with women and they make sure you know it. There's only one white dude, and he's a buffoon who is constantly made fun of by the rest of the team. There's 6 major villians, 2 of whom are women, and both are implied to have been innocent until they were manipulated by the evil men around them. It's funny, when you beat the game you get to see pictures of the development team, and they are 99% fat pasty white guys. This is the same company that is developing the Saint's Row reboot, so enjoy that. Expand

I had way more fun with this game than with Saints Row 3 and 4.

I dream of a AoM 2 with new-gen graphics, and why not as a game as service, adding for exemple a new town once a year, and new content regularly, new agents, new missions that will unlock new skins, new types of vehicles, etc... They could also add some loot with stats like in Borderlands or Diablo. It would be awesome.

As an absolute Saints Row fan, I really enjoy this game. Its kinda like GTA with modern MOBA-Elements. You start with three agents who play completely different. You unlock about 10 more through missions. Every character has a great voice acting a a variety of upgradable skins. Some of the characters are really well designed. And the humour is great.

The world has the perfect size, not to big and not to small, lots of collectibles, and beautiful.

Mission variety is a little dull. You kill people, destroy things or save/protect things/people. But its a one-of-a-kind-game and you will certainly enjoy it.

I wish I could say that this is a good game but it isn’t. After about a half hour to an hour, I started to zone out and ignore pretty much everything that was going on with this game. I just enjoyed running around and shooting people in this game.

The premise of this game is very interesting and very cool. That’s a major reason why I wanted to play this game. I liked the idea of instead of having multiple weapons, you have multiple characters. So as you’re going through the levels, you’re switching up your characters because sometimes certain characters work better in certain situations or because the health of a character is low. When you make the switch, they can start healing so that’s very helpful and why you want to be constantly switching.

I didn’t play this game like “you’re supposed to,” in theory the developers wanted you to level up all of your characters and use certain ones in certain missions but that wasn’t very interesting to me and I found 3 that I really liked and stuck with those 3. The game is kind of clunky and slow so I picked 3 faster characters to make it as close as I can to run and gun style of game.

I found this game to be a great podcast game, a lot of the levels had you doing the same exact thing over and over again. Because it was very repetitive, I could kind of half pay attention to the game and listen to podcasts while I was playing.

This is a game that I can appreciate the effort, I think the goal was to make a fun, weird game that was funny. The jokes didn’t hit, the game wasn’t interesting enough for to even pay attention to the weird stuff and level designs were uninspired. I can not recommend this game, there are better third-person shooters out there.

It actually does sandbox surprisingly well, but the city is not as large as GTA V's Los Santos and the vehicles are limited. But it's a superhero game so that wouldn't make much sense anyway. There's a bunch of characters to be unlocked with each a few cool outfits. The sense of humor might be a taste thing, personally I find a lot of it funny but I'm sure it's not for everyone. Anyway, I think this is in a lot of ways better than Saint's Row 4 and Gat out of Hell. If you liked those, I'd definitely recommend this. Especially now that you can get it at about €/$/£ 10. I got it at €8 so it's gonna be less than 20 cents for every hour of entertainment. You'll have a hard time finding that elsewhere :) Expand

Combat is very good. World is very nice. Concept is decent, but kind of confusing. Not sure I understand what the agents are fighting for. I think it's a bad idea to compare it to SR. Saint's Row had laugh out loud humor. The humor in AOM is just strange. It just isn't very funny, which was part of the SR charm.
AOM is Saints Row that has been sanitized by political correctness.

I'm sure there are some backers out there who like this game, and that is fine. But for me, I felt rather disappointed, almost mad even because I know Volition can do better.

Each one unique in their own way and every one of them fun as hell to play. Some are better than others but they are all a great cast with their own Set of abilities and upgrades. It can even be a bit overwhelming at first as there are so many different upgrades for not only the agents but the agency hub where you choose what missions or side quests, customize your gear and car, agents, legion tech, and dispensable gremlin tech which can get over the top causing snowballs to rain down on foes slowing and freezing them or lasers shooting down destroying anything in their path. The destruction and effects are absolutely stunning. Fire, energy particles, smoke, implosions all look amazing I never tire of blowing stuff up just for the gorgeous effects. The graphics are like a Saturday morning cartoon (a violent and r rated one mind you) come to life. The cutscenes also are well done and animated bringing that cartoon feel to life. The gameplay can get a tad repetive and sidequests aren't all that interesting but the main missions and agent missions (basically backstory missions for the agents) are all fun and more interesting than the filler side quests like take this outpost, save this civilian activities. The gameplay is highly addicting and can get challenging as hell if you up the difficulty, which there are 15 btw all awarding more cash and experience the higher you go. The open world is beautiful and lively with npcs littering the streets and freaking out when hell breaks loose. The game captures the spirit of Saturday morning cartoons well, complete with rather well done animated segments. The characters are all unique and interesting, and unlike other games in the similar genre each character has their own unique motivations for both fighting and joining Mayhem. These touches make for characters that are far more fleshed out than those in many other games that have big rosters. The mechanics for each character is engaging, and the game provides plenty of ability customization and strategic thinking when it comes to creating groups. The story itself is not the best, but as it captures the Saturday morning cartoon feel well I think that is fine.

The underlying problem I think the game has is in its open world and its enemies. The city you run around in is a bit lifeless and dull. I think the game may have done better with a different structure and avoided the open world structure. Attached to this are the lairs. Lairs are kind of like dungeons, and while they are fine they typically as bland and uninteresting as the open world.
In addition to that, I feel the game does not do well in its enemy types. They are typically all the same, and that means fighting them gets a bit boring and repetitive.

All in all, I'm definitely recommending the game. It has its faults, but the strength of its characters and the Saturday morning vibe more than make up for it in my eyes. It will not win game of the year, nor does it really belong in that discussion, but if you want a fun game then look no further than this.

+ No cover based mechanic, Just dashing, sliding and jumping while shooting.
+ The particle effects and explosion effects were pretty awesome
    + No Multiplayer/Co-Op

    Negatives:
    - Open World feels empty.
    - Driving feels good but I feel like this game didn't need it. But because you had cars you had to make the open world big wide and drivable which contributed to the world feel big and empty. Traversing along buildings felt so much better and I could only imagine how great it would have been if driving was excluded and the map was smaller and condensed.
    - The music was pretty non existent. Which contributed to the world feeling empty and dead. In a game like this inspired by the 80's I feel there was a big missed opportunity.
    - Character dialogue felt a little forced. Note just because your characters are constantly talking, doesn't make them more likable, its the opposite.
    - Can't backflip and shoot. It would have felt so good to backflip and shoot but currently when you try to step back and jump you just jump straight back no backflip animation which doesn't feel good or satisfying.
    - No wall running while shooting. Felt like it would have been obvious to add some kind of running off walls and shooting animation in a game so over the top but it may just be me.
    - Was not a big fan of Anime-Ish cut scenes unfortunately. It looked great but It would have been great if cutscenes were handled in engine.

Volition don't get discouraged by the negativity. This was a great idea for a game and I really hope you keep supporting it with expansions and DLC. I've watched all the livestreams since this games was announce and I know you guys put a lot of effort into this game. With some polish here and there you can have a hit. I hope this sells well because i would hate if volitions next game is another saints row game or some multiplayer game. I feel this game could have benefited from just having 4 small open world maps and remove driving completely.

But then I started exploring the city and playing more missions, and that's when it started clicking and started getting fun.
The initial movie and mission were a complete mess. I had no idea what was going on, who this evil guy was, etc. The evil guy and the characters did not intrigue me due to them being incredibly stereotypical and done 1000 times before. But again, after I played for a while, I started getting into the grove. The game is actually very fun and the characters are basically different weapon/abilities/defenses. Instead of equipping weapons and armor, you equip a character. Each character is VERY fleshed out... it's not just window dressing. Each has different strengths and weaknesses that you must match against the types of foes that challenge you. You can also upgrade each character in a mind boggling number of ways. There are vehicles and weapons you can earn/craft. Also I found out after playing for a number of hours that there are a lot of different characters you can unlock. If each of these characters has as much customization as the first three (as I suspect they will), there should be a ton of gameplay here.
Additionally, the city is smaller but the DETAIL is INCREDIBLE. They really focused on some highly creative architecture and design. It's also a future time setting, so you get future technology observable in the world, e.g. driverless billboard cars, automated street sweepers, etc. There is also some really nice asian architecture and sprawling palaces. Really cool stuff.
Additonally, there are lots of unlockables and hidden crystals to find that level up your characters and open up new vehicles, gadgets, and abilities. Think of these crystals as being similar to the orbs in SRIV, except you need a lot more to power up and some are not as easy to get due to you not being able to jump so high. Some require out of the box thinking to get to so are kind of like puzzles.
Overall, the game starts slow but PLEASE keep at it for a few hours until you get into the flow and get what's going on. Highly recommended!

Cartoons, evil geniuses, good guys, stylish humor (mostly hit-or-miss) and, of course, tons of pure, entertaining action. The variety between the well-designed Agents is what truly makes the game shine, and it’s a shame that the open world of Seoul is so repetitive and, despite the many colors and explosions, dull. It basically emulates every part of a classic “mediocre open-world game”.
