A nice online experience but a trivial main adventure, dull and repetitious. If you are not scared by creepy graphics, and you like multiplayer madness, you should give Transformers a chance.
-
What goes around, comes around: It wasn't the best idea to implement an outstanding intro just in front of the mediocre game graphics. Camera, handling and repetitive gameplay are weak points, but nevertheless it seems to be the best Transformers game in ages.
-
The game is not without its growing pains as the graphics suffer at times, offline co-op is absent and the Multiplayer can become a lag fest. However when the dust settles and you step past these issues, you are left with one of the most enjoyable games featuring transforming robots in recent memory.

Playstation Official Magazine UKNever destined for greatness, but hugely likeable despite the flaws. [Aug 2010, p.110]

Playstation Official Magazine AustraliaFar from mindless but further from brilliance, War for Cyberton is fun without being engaging, ideal for an undemanding audience. [September 2010 p.76]
-
As a shooter, Transformers is purely about running and gunning, and the lack of strategy causes problems with difficulty-balancing.
-
There's a lot here for fans of the Transformers to admire, but strip away the pop culture veneer and War for Cybertron is a slightly above par entry in the annals of gaming.
-
The well-realized license in this third-person shooter can hide the myriad problems for only so long.

Transformers : War for Cybertron is a solid TPS, although a quite straightforward one if you play it alone. Going multiplayer gives it added depth, since using and mixing powers in teamplay make it more interesting to play. Alas, its lack of inspiration in terms of level design, its annoying frame rate issues, improvable story and french voice acting, as well as its average production values and too few multiplayer maps are a disappointment. However, for absolute fans of the franchise, it remains one of if not the best adaptation of the show, giving back their pride to Autobots and Decepticons!
-
Its campaign is only worth seeing through if you're extremely curious to see how it ties into some of the other Transformers lore out there, and the multiplayer is solid, if perhaps a bit uninspired. It's a good diversion that'll keep you engaged for a few days, but don't go in expecting long-term excitement.
-
Overall the game feels a little half baked to me, and not something I'd suggest to anyone outside of the hardcore Transformer fan base.
-
Though one could claim that the campaign and online rewards/achievements and the mediocre level of character customization online make the game worth looking into, in truth, this is a title that doesn't warrant your attention unless you're starved for a taste of Transformers flavour and the most basic gaming experience.
