Thief was one of my favorite stealth games of all time. When I bought Thief, I was expecting a great and fluid stealth experience. What I got was a game that was EXTREMELY easy, with no challenge and terrible A.I. The gameplay is boring, and the environments look gorgeous but feel recycled. I must say, Thief has officially jumped the cliff, and is possibly dead.

I bought thief without really reading the reviews, something which I never usually do. I have not finished it yet, but I am about 75% of the way through at this point.

I feel like this game has been rushed out, as there are some problems with it that bother me. Sometimes, in cut scenes, the voices of the characters go so quiet, I had to put the subtitles. The AI characters often wander about repeating the same sentences, without finishing the first one.

It also feels oddly dated. The exploration is broken up into small segments of map, which are hard to navigate and are more of a hindrance than a help. The graphics are not up to the standard of current games, and the characters are not always in sync with the words they are saying.

If this game had been released a few years ago, I would probably give it a higher score. But since it borrows heavily from Dishonoured, Batman, it does not have its own identity. Even Garett, a brilliant character in the original games, is somehow lost here. Instead of being the snarky, witty narrator who made people fall in love with the franchise in the first place has lost his identity. He is just a growling mess of various gaming stereotypes, who has become completely un-relatable

Whether intended or not, this game looks like, plays like, and acts like Dishonored. Unfortunately, the differences between the two favor the predecessor. This game lacks the difficulty that makes a full stealth completion feel rewarding. The storyline lacks spark, the characters are forgettable, and the map is clunky.
The worst part is that Garrett's upgrades should provide a way for you

The worst part is that Garrett's upgrades should provide a way for you to tailor his skills to your preferred game play method, thus providing replay value. However, they do not.
I would ONLY rent this game since you can beat it in one day.

First of all I would love to compliment the game designers on the look and tone of the game it's great. I felt like I was in a Tim burton meets Len Wiseman type world and I loved that feeling. I think the cutscenes are good and tell a clear conscience story that flows in its own darkness. I love the mystery surrounding Garrett that I think shows in his image really well. I love the mystery surrounding Garrett that I think shows in his image really well. About the gameplay. I find it to be exciting and fun defiantly worth the play but there is a lot against the player in it. Example Garrett can hardly defend himself face to face with guards and I know stealth but come on we're not all stealth players. The bows you get only hold a max of five arrows and unless you hitting heads on the enemy they won't kill first shot which is a problem with multiple AI attacking you. The enemies have swords and you have a batton! Uh no way a batton could ever beat a sword in dominance so your out manned there too. I just think that the character of Garrett could have built a little more equip and slightly tougher but get there's always a sequel right guys? Expand

Hmm tough one here. I dint enjoy this game as I thought I would. The voice acting was sub par for me and the game too linear. I felt driven in the one direction despite the odd dead end side quest. Graphics are quite nice but textures did pop on my ps3 version and it didnt blow my mind like The Last of Us or some of the other late releases on ps3.
Fans of this series will either love it

Fans of this series will either love it (cause its more thief) or hate it (cause its not as good as the old ones). This was my fist foray into the Thief franchise and I was left a little underwhelmed.
Again its not to say its a terrible game, just not my type. Id suggest either waiting till the price drops and getting it in a bargain bin or merely trying out Dishonoured a they are quite similar,

Between the hit-or-miss missions is an extremely annoying city hub map and a weak story full of bland characters, and Garrett himself isn’t as sure-footed as a master thief ought to be.
  2. While maintaining the original feeling, new Thief also adds its own characteristics into the series. It's not the perfect Thief game for which fans were waiting 10 years, but it's a close call.
