You could play a mission and ace it, then replay it step for step the same and get killed constantly.this makes it an exercise in frustration, impossiblevto master and basically a game of luck, which sucks for whats meant to be a cakculated stealth game.then theres the technical issues, sound out of sync with horrible animated cutscenes and constant lag with constant loadingscreens, a convoluted map with no waypoint, more frustation as you spend more time trying to find routes ti wwindowsills than anything else in this game.do yourself a favour and pass on this one, or il swap you my copy for anything really.its such a shame, it cuda been great. Load times are appalling (and way to frequent) for a modern game. This ruins any immersion or desire to explore. You are unable to jump (!) except on designated surfaces. The game seems to be hobbled together from earlier jettisoned versions of itself - the stealth portions are okay, but there are bizarre out of place Uncharted-style third person (!) climbing bits, etc. This is the first game I have ever returned, because I found it to be unplayable as a result of the various bugs and deficiencies in mechanics compounded by bafflingly poor game design choices. See for yourself if you must, but at least wait until the cost comes down. And note what other reviewers said - the PS3 version seems to be especially buggy. Some things may be fixed with patches later on, but you simply can't fix the poor game design choices made in this rushed cash grab. Expand

Unfortunately, I downloaded the game. Therefore, I cannot return it. WRETCHED audio, when there is audio. Cut scenes are completely void of audio. I was using my PS4 controller while playing on PS3 so I thought maybe this game doesn't properly work with PS4 controller, which is odd enough. But then it didn't work with my PS3 controller either. Maybe my controller broke down, even though it was fine half an hour ago. So I tried with another PS3 controller and the R2 wasn't working.

I did a quick google search and saw that I wasn't the only one. With the PS3 version of the game, the R2 button simply doesn't work for some players. I restarted and installed and everything but the problem did not disappear.

So yeah I was really looking forward to play this game and that's what I did. I got to play the game for 1 minute. I'm glad this was a PSN Plus deal and didn't pay anything for this. And I won't pay 30 euros for the PS4 version just to find out that it is as glitchy as the PS3 version.
0 out of 10, out of 5, out of what ever. This was just pointless.

El juego parece entretenido con una interesante historia, pero es aburrido y cae mucho en la repetición, no creo que sea por el juego sino porque el concepto ya fue muy usado.

So first and foremost do not even bother with the ps3 port for already terrible game. It is riddled with sound problems all throughout (audio completely drops off/ subtitles racing ahead/ random clicking noises), the frame rate is unacceptable, and I personally had the game crash on me at one point.

Now if you thought this low score was merely because of technical flaws, that is certainly not the case. The entirety of this game is pretty much linear, where the 'alternative' paths almost always end in a dead end with some loot if you are lucky. The world is uninteresting and completely disregards the fascinating lore it should be based on. The game even includes sections where you climb around in a third person perspective as if this was assassin's creed and there were even 2 or 3 sections where I was simply running from the explosions going off all around me.....The hub world is a huge nuisance to navigate and the vast majority of the side missions are lackluster and boring. The few side missions that were enjoyable were mere fleeting moments from the overwhelming drudgery of this experience. This game is basically deadly shadows (one of the more mediocre thief games) with worse level design, worse AI, more bugs, no story to enjoy, a burdensome hub world, and a ton of features to 'streamline' the experience.

I am just glad I only rented this one. Not only is this monstrosity a disgrace to the Thief franchise, but it is also a disgrace to the stealth genre as we know it.

I'll give it some credit. The core stealth mechanics are good and it's a stealth game that genuinely values being stealthy. There's no stepping out off the shadows here. Doing so is sure to lead to a quick death. However that's where the praise ends as everything else in the game is crap.

I'm just going to go ahead and get this part of the review out of the way before diving into the gameplay. If you're looking for story then look elsewhere. The conflict here is painfully uninteresting and the characters are bland and unlikable. It also tries way to hard to be "mature" by including things like nudity and pointlessly gratuitous violence. It doesn't work and thanks to it's presentation the game comes off as juvenile as possible.

As far as the gameplay goes like I said the core stealth works, but the level design often just sucks. It's a shame because usually the levels have cool themes. For instance a trip through an atmospheric asylum ends up being particularly memorable. However despite how cool they may seem at first irritating puzzles and confusing layouts suck the fun out of them before you're finished most of the time.

The same crummy layouts apply to the city you'll navigate in order to get to these objectives. This made me avoid the side-quests the game offers. It also killed the thieving aspect of the game for me as there are plenty of secrets hidden in the corners of the city that just aren't worth going through the tedium to collect.

Speaking of the actual thieving, levels will often have items scattered throughout them you can collect in order to get gold you can use in order to buy more items. However given the state the city is in there isn't much laying around. It feels kind of worthless to search through countless empty drawers and dressers only to end up with a $4 dollar pen at best.

While I can't speak for how it stands up against other games in the "Thief" series I can tell you how it stands up as a stealth game on it's own merits. It's got solid core stealth mechanics that initially make the game show some promise, but it doesn't take long for the flaws to show up and leave gamers with what is just a bad stealth game. It's one I don't recommend and it's just not worth your hard earned money.

I've spent about 48 hours on this game, and I should say that I'm *very* glad I didn't buy it (a friend of mine was very kind to allow me to play his copy).

The setting. Remember the old three Thief games? Ok, now forget them! Since Thief 2014 is a reboot, you will encounter *nothing* from the old ones. I mean Eidos Montreal has *totally* destroyed and erased everything that made Thief series so unique: Keepers, Pagans, Hammerites, Mechanists, Kurshoks, burricks, and hell - even zombies! Everything!
The plot. Definitely the worst I ever met in video games. Just abominable! You still have some doubts? Ok then. Just try to watch the *bossfight* with Thief Taker General on YouTube and see for yourself. Yeah, *bossfights* in a *stealth* game.
The audio. It's just disgusting. All NPCs have just two phrases, and several NPCs have even just *one* phrase. And you know what? These NPCs will repeat their "repertoire" till the kingdom come, with just *one* second interval. Sound propagation works so erroneously, so it was a real pain for me to understand where the sound came from.
The protagonist. His new voice, by Romano Orzari, sounds so dull and boring! Instead, the old Garrett's voice, by Stephen Russell, was just brilliant! So if you still love Stephen Russell's voice as Garrett in Thief 1&2&3, you will absolutely be disappointed by Romano Orzari's voice in Thief 2014.

Bottom line: it's a tasteless hack, so make yourself a favour and save your money for something really useful.

This game feels like a slap in the face for everyone who ever loved Thief and its story. Thief takes away to much from the franchise to be considered a 'Thief' game. The only factor that makes this a Thief game is Garret. No Hammers, no Pagans and no Keepers. All lore removed, just Garret remains. This game will probably appeal more to the mainstream than the oldschool Thief fans.

    - Lighting is binary, you're either visible or you're not. Fog is everywhere but does nothing.
    - Sound is largely irrelevant when compared with previous games,
    - Controls are limited after being designed for controllers, 2 sets of crucial actions (Movement/Interaction) are grouped and unchangeable. Enjoy falling off a building after mantling when you intended to climb instead.
    - AI is probably some of the worst I’ve ever seen (Thief 1 & 2 actually have superior AI).
    - Level design is mostly corridors & shafts. In each level there’s 2 routes minimum, didn’t find more than 3. Obvious ‘stealth’ route, alternate route/Deus Ex HR-style ventilation shaft route & then a more ambitious, often vertical route if you’re lucky.
    - Missions: They very quickly devolve into find whatever/go-to wherever to watch the next cutscene and witness the atrocious story.
    - Garrett: Generic, modern protag who the world revolves around. No witty remarks, mostly just blurts out edgy comments or recounts information the player is already aware of.
    - Port: Pretty good except for the memory leaks & crashes.
    - Graphics: Bloated, old unreal engine 3 with improved crisp shadows. Colour palette: blue + orange only.
    - Story: I’d actually be wasting your time on this planet if I attempted to try and repeat it.

    More words:
    - Load screen & cutscene to gameplay ratio is ridiculous
    - You can’t jump (there is limited contextual jumping/mantling)
    - Viewmodel fov (T-Rex/invisible piano hands) is immersion breaking & may also induce nausea
    - There is a qte within the first 30 seconds of gameplay
    - Forced takedown sequences
    - Forced escape sequences
    - Thirdperson climbing sequences
    - Occasional QTE before load screens/level loads

    Well, they were right.
The plot makes completely no sense: it's too short to dive into anything aside from developing the prologue. No characters have ANY personality, Garret is very generic and even somewhat annoying and as cherry on top - the ending is a pure joke. Like, how is this even possible?
Gameplay and visual design are very flawed as well. Thief is your typical generic 'dark' fantasy with forgettable landscapes and whole black-ness. Maybe there's something wrong with my TV, but I couldn't see a thing like 30% of the time.
Gameplay is literally castrated Dishonored. Your only aim is to reach the end of the terrain with any means you like, but it suffers from lack of possibilities. You can either crouch to the finish or even SPEEDRUN right to your destination. You can't defend yourself, stealth is quite casual and bots are pretty stupid and riddles are that easy that any dumbass can solve all of them.
The game gets old very soon. Music doesn't help either and electro dubstep thingy just makes it cringy.

Technical condition is beyond good and evil - constant frame drops, audio glitches, missing cutscenes... Man, I literally saw a code line right after opening the game. How is this even possible?

I bought this game for 2$ so I'm not really pissed off, but I suggest you to avoid playing this game - even if you have nothing else to play

Between the hit-or-miss missions is an extremely annoying city hub map and a weak story full of bland characters, and Garrett himself isn’t as sure-footed as a master thief ought to be.
  2. While maintaining the original feeling, new Thief also adds its own characteristics into the series. It's not the perfect Thief game for which fans were waiting 10 years, but it's a close call.
