Oct 28, 2013Though The Guided Fate Paradox is a very difficult game, with the danger of being overwhelmed and losing everything you've worked for constantly looming overhead, I can’t get over how streamlined, easy to understand, and enjoyable this particular adventure is.
-
Dec 13, 2013For those that can stomach some frequently-used tropes and are patient with the way it mixes story and gameplay, The Guided Fate Paradox is likely to provide a wild ride the likes of which nothing else out there can really provide.
-
Dec 5, 2013The dungeon crawl aspect of it can be a little repetitive at times, but for the most part it’s a fun, engaging game with plenty of humour, action, and randomly inserted titty jokes.
-
Feb 6, 2014Wearing its weirdness and humour like a badge of honor, Guided Fate Paradox is a fresh take on the Roguelike genre with a quirky tale and dialed-back difficulty that ensures it's accessible to all audiences.
-
Nov 6, 2013It’s an excellent title to introduce those unfamiliar with roguelikes to the genre, and those already a fan will find much to like here.
-
Aug 23, 2014Lots of depth and replayability, but a few unexpected surprises like unusually poor voice acting dull the shine.
-
Nov 4, 2013The Guided Fate Paradox may not have the most engrossing story, and at times, it can roll at a snails pace when in full swing, but its overall attention to the little things is what makes it one of this year's surprises.
-
Oct 25, 2013The Guided Fate Paradox is a niche game, but that shouldn’t scare off anyone who has a taste for Japanese RPGs.
-
Oct 21, 2013A punishing tactical JRPG in a deceptively cute wrapper, The Guided Fate Paradox is for those who love Disgaea but wish it was just a little more complex. The difficulty of dungeons ramps up at an overwhelming pace, and doesn't ease off.
-
Oct 15, 2013The Guided Fate Paradox is an interesting mashup between the typical tactical RPGS and the traditional dungeon crawlers. If you liked the Disgaea series you'll fall in love with this funny, deep and stylish Japanese game.
-
Oct 15, 2013The narrative and characters are varied, quirky, and interesting, and while the core action does get a little repetitive, the plot and constant dialogue will undoubtedly keep you entertained.
-
Nov 11, 2013An atypical roguelike that subverts expectations but still falls flat in some areas.
-
Oct 28, 2013The Guided Fate Paradox might be a bit frustrating and unfair, but it's still a very well designed tactical jRPG which will delight especially the most hardcore fans of the genre.
-
Oct 31, 2013The story of this anime-style rogue-like is quirky and the characters and locations are positively freaky – but the visuals are completely outdated.
-
Oct 16, 2013NIS does what NIS does better: a great mix of strategy and RPG. This is not their best game, but it still is a solid adventure you should try if you are interested in what it has to offer.
-
Nov 7, 2013The Guided Fate Paradox isn't a bad game, but it's not as good as its spiritual predecessor.
-
Oct 24, 2013A unique tactical JRPG with plenty of humour, battles and a quirky storyline.
-
Dec 6, 2013The Guided Fate Paradox suffers from uneven difficulty and customization that could charitably be called "byzantine," but it manages to overcome many of these flaws with its over-the-top sense of humor and rewarding strategy.
-
Nov 17, 2013The Guided Fate Paradox is tons of fun, especially when it comes to wish fulfillment, but it could have benefited from less hand-holding and more powerful angel companions.
-
Nov 14, 2013In the end, this is a good attempt at blending genres together to give a satisfyingly challenging RPG.
-
Nov 6, 2013For me, this is the real paradox of Guided Fate Paradox. On its own, it is a fine game. Heartily recommended, even. But in light of its predecessor, it is a crushing disappointment.
-
Oct 22, 2013The Guided Fate Paradox is lively and fresh, going to recover the formula of a PSP pearl never exploited.
-
Oct 17, 2013NIS's latest work tries to bring the interesting gameplay mechanics of Zettai Hero Project on Ps3, unfortunately that kind of gameplay is way more fitting for a portable console, and while faster and more original than the common "tactical jrpg formula", it's also less tactical and kinda repetitive. A pity, but jrpg fans will find a lot of stuff to like anyway.
-
CD-ActionFeb 10, 2014Nippon Ichi tried to develop a game that would appeal to a wider audience but made it too complicated and therefore wearisome. [02/2014, p.70]
-
Oct 30, 2013The real Paradox, then, is what exactly this game wants to be: visual novel or hardcore dungeon crawler. What’s here is entertaining enough, no need to worry about that, but you’ll enjoy it more once you accept that you’ve got a slightly sleazy schizophrenic on your hands.
-
Playstation Official Magazine AustraliaDec 2, 2013This is a random dungeon roguelike where if you die, or don’t use an ‘exit item’ in time, you lose half your cash, all of your stash – and it’s thrilling. A must-have for old-school masochists. [Christmas 2013, p83]
-
Nov 6, 2013With its intricate leveling system and randomized dungeons, The Guided Fate Paradox succeeds in creating a game that can easily gobble up biblical amounts of time. It's simply too bad all that time spent ends up feeling like a waste when there's no great payoff for all that hard work.
