Often in spite of itself, SEV2 is a really fun and captivating experience whether played solo or with a friend.

Overall, it's a fun game that I would play again just because it's exciting and offers a sniping experience that can't be found anywhere else.

I went into Sniper Elite V2 with one desire: Disfigure Nazis from hundreds of meters away. The game delivers on this core mechanic beautifully. While I would have preferred enemies with less superhuman vision and better stealth options, at the end of the game I couldn't recall a scenario I didn't enjoy. Sniper Elite V2 is a must for anyone interested in a smart shooter with an emphasis on gore.

Never before has a game so gruesomely represented the impact that 9.3 grams of lead travelling at almost one kilometre per second has on the human body. Thanks to this game's disturbing X-Ray Killcam, players are treated (subjected?) to a clinical view of each bullet passing through their target's vital organs whenever they pull off an especially good shot – and by 'good' we mean 'life-ending'. It's brutal, it's disturbing, and we're not quite sure how it got past Australia's over-eager censors. [June 2012, p76]

While the ground combat and close-up encounters aren't as tight as you'd expect from a common shooter, the sniper gameplay is front-and-center here, and it's delivered with top-notch class and authenticity.

While the inconsistent A.I. can be distracting, and the occasional problem with hit detection can be frustrating, it's a game that rewards patience well and there's nothing more satisfying then clearing an area of a dozen enemies with a round of carefully-placed headshots.

Despite some graphical and AI issues, Sniper Elite V2 is a good game. Rebellion revamped some of the original charchteristics, adding totally new and realistic ballistics.

Great sniping and robust multiplayer do a lot to offset the awful non-sniping sequences which there are far too many of. Rebellion and 505 should stick to the rooftops if they revisit this series.

Soldiers 200m away can miraculously spot you crouched on a rooftop, and with their rifles, shoot you through the head within two attempts. Enemies are generally psychic: if they find a dead body, they are automatically alerted to your precise location. Shadow and darkness count for nothing. In other games, 'going loud' is a decision you take carefully as it may bring a lot of trouble; here it makes no difference as they'll find you whatever. I'm still playing because I love so many of the sniper function, but it is difficult to carry on when the rules of the game are so far from reality. Full Review »

The single player game is short but somewhat replayable as the difficulty levels affect bullet physics and how much the game handicaps you. The co-op multiplayer modes are fun and require teamwork. Best played with a friend and not a total stranger as communication is essential. It is very difficult to follow the stealthy approach in this game, and if you aren't careful, you risk turning the game into a mediocre third person shooter experience. Setting traps, timing who you kill and when, and luring the survivors into your trip mines is extremely satisfying. The game performs a CSI style kill cam highlighting body parts in x-ray vision that you've nailed with your bullets. Testicle shots are included to much glee. All in all, great co-op game, good single player game. Recommended despite the stale WW2 setting. Full Review »
