Sniper Elite V2

It's a bit of a shoddy finish that doesn't marry up to the realistic bullet physics of the hardest setting, but this is still a sniper's Mecca, perfect for those that like to do their shooting from as far away as possible.

Sniper Elite V2 is an original third person shooter with some good ideas. A poor story and some gameplay glitches spoil an interesting experience.

An atmospheric and compulsive experience. It's only taken three versions of the same game for you to notice it exists, and if you can ignore the clunky controls and concentrate on aiming that gun, there's much to enjoy.

The truly patient may find satisfaction in meticulous planning, but it's too easy for those plans to go wrong. When they do, this is just a simplistic shooter. [July 2012, p.100]

Sniper Elite holds just as many pleasant surprises as it does disappointments. Despite the well-done gunplay and unique aesthetic flares, there are simply too many areas in which the game feels underdeveloped.

You really feel like a sniper in this game... that is, if you overlook the visual mediocrity, a weak story and the incredibly dumb AI. Overall, Sniper Elite V2 is a major disappointment.

Sniper Elite V2 pins almost all of its hopes on its sniping mechanic, and it enjoys some success as a result. The game's disappointing presentation and lack of variety prevent it from providing much more than disposable entertainment, but with engaging gunplay and some decent replayability options, it's an enjoyable distraction when experienced in small chunks.

Its dedication to the nuances of sniping is interesting, but that's unfortunately all it has going for it. Unfortunately, a game that only does sniping well really feels like only half of a game. In fact, it feels like the designers spent more time designing the gruesome kill cam than the non-sniping portions of the game.

There are moments of brilliance, but also frustrating inconsistencies and technical limitations that ruin what could have been the ultimate sniper game.

It's hard to be definitive with SEV2 because it does fall victim to its own unique premise and gameplay speciality. It's somewhat limited, but adding more whiz-bang and flashiness would only dilute its core sniping gameplay, which is exactly what makes it stand out from the crowd.
