Very good game. The story mode is more for killing time when you have nothing to do and the creation mode is where the fun is at. I played the beta and was immediately hooked! I don't know if I'll design my own levels, but I really loved seeing what others can do. I think this game is infinitely replayable. Some of the levels were buggy or had problems, but as people learn the game, they'll get better and better.

This game is one of the best platform games that I have ever played. It ranks right up there with Mario and Ratchet, I hope the game sells well as I would love to see a sequel. There is not much else to say besides that I welcome anyone's created content.

Very addictive game, fun and spirited. It's great to be able to build your own levels, game is very polished aside from the laggy server when it first came out. With all the user content people can make this should keep most occupied for some time to come well after the single player game is finished.

I really enjoyed playing this game with my little brother and my friends. The graphics are very good, the level design is highly creative and the game play is fun. I feel that I got a good value for my money, especially with the online component, where you can design and share your own levels. LittleBigPlanet is one of the finest games of this generation. Unlike some other reviewers on this site, I have a good deal of patience and can stand to go through one or two tutorial levels to get through to some of the most clever, inventive, and downright fun platforming ever. The controls are spot-on; don't listen to those idiots who say that the jumping is bad. If you can't figure out that you need to mash X to jump high, and tap X to hop a little, then you don't need to be gaming at all. My non-gaming girlfriend has a blast with the game, and not once has she blamed the game's physics for any mistakes she makes. In summary, LittleBigPlanet is one of the few games that, as you play it, will bring a smile to your face. It's really that good. Believe the hype, this is one game that deserves it. Expand

Little Big Planet is so big that you can make a shooting level, puzzle level, music level, draw-on-a-piece-of-cardboard-level? Heck, I've even seen someone create a guitar hero concept. This game truly lived up to my expectations, and then some. The only problem I have is the online and the way people attempt to invite/join you in game. I'm hoping Mm can fix these problems as well as some data corruption, as they are very annoying. Other than that a terrific game that will keep people hooked for quite a while. Expand

The only reason this game has a 6.3 is because of douches who give it a zero because it's not a shooter game. Shooters are great but they get old just like any game. Yes its good, but the campaign gets boring if you are not playing with a friend. The levels on the community search will never get old though, because there is such a variety. The Level creator is the highlight of the game, creating you own vehicles, enemys and obstacles is really rewarding. But this still shouldn't have beaten Killzone.

A great PS3 exclusive even almost 3 years after its release. There is no real story here because the game really only relies on gameplay: platforming. For a platformer, this game is a hit because of the level designs. The mission creator is also sweet because of its potential and how innovative it is. My personal game experience with it leaves me bored. Why do I give it such a high score? Because my wife and two daughters, age 5 and 4, are enthralled with it. They have had many hours of fun playing together (plays up to four players!). Dressing them up is a big charm for them. It's definitely a chick-game, but I've seen the results of how much it is enjoyed.

Charming and endearing little sack boys, they're so cute. The platforming is not the best or clever but it's far from entertaining , getting the responsibility to find the stickers add more content to the already lot of fun. Customizing your Sackboy is addictive, and pulls you to combine with all the clothes. Neat

It's amazing how this game includes physics in it's simple gameplay. Even though LBP may seem childish at first, it does challenge the player quite heavily, especially towards the end. With the option to play with 3 others, totally 4 players, this can include everyone in the room. The game mechanics are simple: grab, run, and jump. There are many moments when you have to time the combination of the three, and it's truly fantastic. Level designs are top notch and can have players smiling after solving a complex puzzle. There is a great amount of satisfaction to be had while running in and out of each level, yet there is more to be had with LBP numerous features, such as a level editor and a giant community of literally hundreds of thousands of levels to be downloaded. The characters can be edited beyond your imagination and it's incredibly fun to do so. The level editor may have it's flaws, but can be ignored when most creative ideas can be implemented and made possible. This is a must have for any PS3 owner.

The presentation is the best I've seen in any game ever - the way your little sackboy reacts to fire or spikes, and the yarn-world level selection menu. Granted, this game is not perfect, and didn't get a ten for a reason. The controls are frustrating and clunky, and the level design can get pretty basic, (though there are a few nice levels, and this is mostly made up for anyway through the player level creation). It's a genre of video games, if you like that genre it doesn't make the game bad, it's just not for you...learn to be more objective..or preferably more open minded about games.

That said, the game is a near perfect modern day puzzle/platformer that incorporates tons of cool mini-games and features within different levels that benefit or require having multiple players playing together. It's a very visually appealing game, it's cute, creative and imaginative. I've heard another complaint being how quickly the main story can be completed. This is true, the game can be beat with probably 5-10 hours of gameplay. But each level has tons of unlockable areas or features, awesome soundtracks, you can try to get all the stickers, but most of all this game gets its replay value from the minigames. I love this game, and I think people who really like platformers and puzzles and the art design of the game will enjoy it to. But considering how many people seem to not enjoy it, or just be horrible reviewers, I'd suggest trying a demo first.

My one legitimate criticism though, is that at times the game can get very frustrating because of one mechanical flaw... The game is a bit 3D, you can jump "closer" and "further" away from the screen in order to jump or climb over things or hide from something...That movement sometimes is hard to actually maneuver, and something so crucial to the gameplay shouldn't at all be remotely difficult...but it is, and so you might yell at your TV for that now and again.

Game was really fun at first and the art style is awesome. Got boring after a couple days though. The level editing was nice, but the gluing/ungluing behavior started to annoy me pretty quickly. Coming from editing tools for 3D PC games, it really didn't stack up. That's probably an unfair comparison though since the controller is a bit limiting for that. Online has a few good user created levels, but you have to go through a bunch of junk to see it (search sucks, really confusing). Didn't get the point of multi-player with this game either. Made it harder to play since the camera keeps moving around to fit the players in the frame. Tired of folks asking for hearts. Note to Sony: never make getting a trophy dependent on other users helping you out. Too much spam. Overall: Good attempt, but needs some tuning. Expand

This is a solid game with notable problems. If you've ever considered yourself a fan of the genre I'd say it's worth a play-through, just don't buy into the hype that it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, because while I guarantee the first couple days you have it you'll be thoroughly engaged, it is rather surprising how quickly it becomes tired and the flaws you initially overlooked start to grate on you... much in the way that a really hot girlfriend is great at first, but then just starts to annoy the hell out of you. The physics and controls really are problematic (while at the same time, oddly enough, the physics for objects seems to be VERY solid, when it's applied to your avatar it becomes splotchy, particularly in regards to jumping, which... in a platformer becomes frustrating). I was also surprised to see basic innovations in the platforming genre absent (such as grabbing onto ledges and wall-jumping). However, at the same time, you do have the capability to grab ahold of certain objects and pull-triggers, but as this capacity to interact is selective in level design it becomes the equivalent of a quick-time event due to it's restrictions. Overall, I haven't played it for a few days, but know in the back of my mind, I'll likely pick it up and play a few levels online today or tommorrow or the next day and it strikes me that that may well be the best measure of whether or not this is a "good" game, is it something I'll wax ecstatic about for years to come? No, not really, but it's a decent game that I'll check in on from time to time and spend a half hour to 45 minutes fooling around with before putting down and going on about my day. It's casual gaming, it's very pretty, the presentation is exceedingly well-done, and there are plenty of moments that will be both elate and infuriate you as a result of it's design - but don't expect the second coming, this simply isn't the killer app PS3 owners have been waiting for and I don't expect you'll see a boost in system sales as a result of this game. Remember, any game that will do that has to be damn good to get people to choke up $400 in the mass market and, to date, there hasn't been any game on any of the seventh gen consoles that has been that good, but here's hoping Sony will turn it around yet! Some of the features seemed really odd, like limiting how much stuff you can put on an object, and not being able to change the color of the material w/o a sticker (seriously, what the crap?) but the creator overall was a blast. The only reason I give it a lower score is because the tools for a great game do necessarily make a great game. That's like saying a pile of lumber is awesome because it could be a huge mansion, or that a blank canvas and a bucket of paint is brilliant because it has the ability to be turned into a masterpiece. No, what the players do with those tools is great, not the tools themselves. I praise Media Molecule for offering such a rich tapestry of creation tools, but those alone do not make the game for me. My friends and I had more fun using the original head, body and arms control to make awkwards situations instead of running through levels. In the other hand, never before a game has offered that much options to build your own levels. Not only you can build levels, but with the vast list of tools and the awesome physics, you can also create enemies, rides and much more. LittleBigPlanet is charming, cute, innovative, and creative. Creating your own levels with its powerful designer is devilishly fun, but unfortunately, playing them proves to be a bore at times. LittleBigPlanet is an ever-growing game that really never ends, due to its dedicated community and large playerbase. There is a main story mode that really only serves to get trophies and new items to design your own levels with, because you will often find more creative levels made by other players. As well as the ability to create your own levels, there is an incredible amount of customization in this game. You have your own personal pod that you may customize to your heart's extent, and obviously, the cute little Sackboy player you control has many customization options. It's all fun and silly, making LittleBigPlanet the perfect game to play with friends. However, if you look at the gameplay at its core, there isn't much to it. The only buttons you use pertaining to traveling through levels are the left analog stick, the X button, and R1 (the action button). Everything else is dedicated to communication, customization, and custom emotes, only reinforcing the fact that LittleBigPlanet is meant to be played with other people. Overall, LittleBigPlanet should be played by those who enjoy the idea of creating their own levels for others to play, but don't expect anything prolific in the gameplay department. At $30 for the Game of the Year edition, there really is no reason not to have LittleBigPlanet in your collection, so do yourself a favor. Expand

It feels like Media Molecule could've tried much harder with creativity, varying gameplay and simple care put into the levels. You just build weird stuff.

Quality platforming with the ability to create custom content. And locally, it is just fun.

This merely a simple game, it can only jump around, making face and expression.. the fact that this game give the player a tools kit to make a level does not make this a game deserve a 10 score.. for me this is a mediocre game.

My advice for our faithful users is focus your attention on the Metascore for this game and not the thousands of user votes, most of which have been submitted before said users have played the game. This is a gaming community, and if people want to stuff the ballot box, there's not much I can do at this point. If You're playing with at least 2 people, this game is a 10. If you're playing by yourself, it's a 5...so i met myself in the middle. Single player is definitely creative, but very monotonous. Grab a buddy, and the fun starts...and doesn't stop. Wierd, but that's the way it goes. Buy if you've got a couple buddies who will play with you.

Good game but doesn't deliver on all fronts, Playing online is a lag fest, finding a usercreated level that is acutally good is unheard of, allows one to make their own level and use their creativity to guide them.

Standard platforming with poorly-implemented, overly-robust physics engine. User-generated content is a big plus, but level-design tools are weak, time-consuming, and condescending. There simply isn't anything else like LBP on any system, anywhere. It's a beautifully elegant and powerful creative tool that puts unlimited potential in the palm of your hand. [Nov 2008, p.92]
  2. We're just happy to see a flagship game for a modern system that's about running from left to right and jumping over things. New ideas are great, great old ideas are better, and LittleBigPlanet has both: it's the future and the past of videogames, rolled into one.
  3. Little Big Planet is revolutionary thanks to its flexible, fun and powerful editor. Creating a quality level takes time but the feeling of achievement is overwhelming. A must for everyone who loves creativity or likes to explore what the creativity of a passionate community can produce.
