The problem is that it doesn't last very long before you get bored. [Issue#196, p.93]

It's fun in spots, but the gameplay is extremely repetitive, and there's no incentive for you to get better. Feels like a tech demo haphazardly turned into a full game.

We have other complaints; the action is too abrupt to hold any momentum, hazards appear too suddenly, and although branching paths and gravity-mocking grind rails pay homage to SSX, things never flow well enough to complete the tribute. [Nov 2010, p.70]

The game tries to mix things up by throwing in tightly-placed bonus gates, hidden branching routes and aerial grind-rails, but the game never really flows fast or smoothly enough to properly invoke the spirit of SSX that it's clearly trying to recreate.

For such a strange game, I was really hoping that this title would showcase the potential of the move technology but in actual fact, it's a rather ho-hum experience that we've already seen on the Wii.

Kung Fu Rider is definitely not as funny as it thinks it is, and not really much fun either.

Most people will have a laugh at the mere sight of the game, but if they actually play it, and want to be good at it, a lot of frustration is in store.

Bogged down by inelegant motion controls, frustrating gameplay, and a sheer lack of content, Kung Fu Rider is a hard sell for Move early adopoters. The concept may sound enticing, but this is one downhill race you'll definitely want to sit out.

KFR was a daring launch title in regards to the PlayStation Move. Unfortunately, KFR comes across as a shallow experience marred by overuse of the PlayStation Move.

All the interaction it requires could be better executed, with equal intuition and far greater reliability, on a joypad with an analogue stick. [Nov 2010, p.94]

This wacky action game doesn't contain any of the fun hinted at by its goofy premise.

The levels are also incredibly samey and brief – Kung Fu Rider is basically an arcade game that would have played better with a regular controller, and might have been worthwhile as a $10 PSN release.

Sadly outside of the main mode Kung Fu Rider offers very little else for your money.

Kung-Fu Rider is a pretty unique idea, that was always going to be difficult to pull off and unfortunately Sony hasn't quite managed it.

A crazy arcade game that's just too limited to be worth your money.

Tedious and with poor controls - avoid this one like the plague.

An original concept and good graphics for a horrible game, with unresponsive controls and unfair difficulty level. If you're thinking to buy this as your first Move title... you should think again and leave it on the shelf.

Kung Fu Rider seems an incomplete videogame. A game which could have worked if only its release hadn't been so determined by PlayStation Move launch. It reminds a no-brainer PlayStation Network game.

Kung Fu Rider is the most stupid game that uses the PlayStation Move. You start at the top of a mountain and on your desk chair you ride off the hill. Steering and kicking goes with de PlayStation Move, but the sad part is: it doesn't work, the story is crap and the price is way too high.

The graphics aren't stunning, the sound is very poor, no atmosphere: Kung Fu Rider fails to impress. This title has no right to be in your collection, just like big cities are no suitable environment for office chairs.

Kung Fu Rider is a good example of what you shouldn't do with the PlayStation Move. The controls are frustrating and the few levels are repetitive. Don't buy this game, not even if your live depended on it.

How Sony thinks Kung Fu Rider justifies being a full retail release (even with the reduced $40 price tag) is beyond me.

Kung Fu Rider is not a good game. The controls are terribly unresponsive, the game punishes players unfairly and the level design is repetitive.

At least you won't have to suffer long as Kung-Fu Rider clocks in at about 4 hours or so of gameplay.

Once the novelty of the game concept has worn off, which doesn't take long, the frustration caused by the controls really kicks in.

There's a difference between a game that is wacky and a game that is wack. Kung Fu Rider desperately tries to be the former but winds up being the latter. [November 2010 p67]
  27. Oct 21, 2010

The simple fact is Kung Fu Rider would have fared better on a traditional joypad (it still wouldn't be that much fun), therefore making the entire game ultimately pointless. Studio Japan has blatantly given a half-arsed approach to their first PS Move title and there's absolutely nothing to recommend. Pointless, frustrating, irritating.
  28. Oct 21, 2010

Kung Fu Rider's bizarre and broken controls bear little correlation to what's going on in the screen, and overall the game would function far more effectively if its commands were simply mapped to a DualShock controller. It would still remain utterly terrible, however, as the game is an uninspired mess built entirely around a core conceit that gets old surprisingly fast.

he Move hardware is great - software like this is drivel.
  30. Oct 21, 2010

Overall, the benefit of the PS Move is questionable for this game, all the more since the accessory sometimes mix up the movements to accelerate and those to jump... To cut a long story short, Kung Fu Rider is a poor way in for the PS Move.

Kung Fu Rider remains virtually the same from the first moment until the last, and singularly fails to justify its frankly baffling price tag. [Issue#101, p.126]

While PlayStation Move undoubtedly has a lot of potential, Kung Fu Rider is one of the worst possible titles to show any of it.

Pure garbage is one way to put it, but it would be strict. This ridiculous racer has it's moments, deeply hidden in between terrible controls that will make you test if the Move controllers can destroy a TV.
  34. 30
Kung Fu Rider is a bland racing-inspired game that quickly becomes frustrating with its poor use of Move and the dreadful controls. The game would have been better suited for a standard controller.
  35. Oct 21, 2010

Kung Fu Rider is essentially a terrible example of what Move can offer. Whatever you do, don't judge Sony's new motion sensing hardware on this title.

The world would be quite boring without those typical strange Japanese games, but unfortunately they don't always work out that well. Kung Fu Rider has a lovely ridiculous premise but the way the Move-controls fail to work in combination with the hectic gameplay is very frustrating.

There are far better games available for Move currently, pick up the Move edition of Heavy Rain for the same price and embrace the goodness. Hell, spend £4 on Flight Control HD and the rest on beer whilst you smash jumbo-jets in to each other – just don't buy this or we'll have to send the lads around and have a word. I grade this title an A-F: Abject Failure.

Kung Fu Rider is an incredibly poor game. It's a rain cloud hovering over a bright sunny PlayStation Move launch.

Kung Fu Rider is a lot of things, but entertaining certainly isn't one of them - weird, boring, repetitive, frustrating and ultimately pointless would be much closer to the mark.
  44. Oct 21, 2010

Not only the worst PlayStation Move game but probably the worst motion-controlled title ever. Riding through traffic on a real chair would be more entertaining.
  45. Oct 21, 2010

So what we have is a game that should be kitsch, daft fun but instead is dull, broken and mildly sexist.

It's a nice game and full of challenges. Sure, it could be repetetive, but at least a mediocre game if you play it in small doses.

The game is basicly about riding random four-wheeled objects down the street, while kicking yakuza (gangsters), grinding on long poles and reaching the goal within the time limit. This is what you do the whole game. However, there's a bunch of locations and the premise works pretty good. With a total of 20 levels and 6 additional "freeplay" levels, there's a lot to do. It can be beaten within four hours, but even that is fine considering the price this game goes for on ebay. The music is just running in the background, but there was one particular (vocal) song that made me hum to it.

The only thing that really bothered me was the recycled areas. Some levels had obviously ripped off parts from other levels, which is really lazy. There's also some really unforgiving levels where the yakuza is impossible to kill, and even if you do manage to ride past them, the time limit will end you.

Play the game in small doses and it'll be a good ride, half a hour or so. I must admit I got tired after playing this non-stop for four hours, but I'm sure it would be better to take a break every five level or so.
