Great graphics, great animation, great sound, great gameplay. in FAMOUS is the first open world adventure on the ps3 but already i think it tops GTA. The vast collection of moves and choices required to progress help to create this game what it is and the final relevation on both endings will leave you wanting more.

Now I'm all set to play the whole game again on Evil and eagerly waiting any word on DLC or a sequel. I didn't expect so much from this game but it really delivered. There were things that could have made it better and have more replay value, but it was definitely great while it lasted. I really hope Prototype can at least be just as good if not better. Expand

Infamous was the first game I finished for my PS3. I highly recommend it. Infamous has stellar gameplay; there are so many little features that make this game enjoyable. For example, instead of falling off a narrow rope (which happens in God of War), Infamous knows I want to stay on the rope. Infamous also understands that I do not want to walk off the edges of buildings/cliffs (which Infamous was the first game I finished for my PS3. I highly recommend it. Infamous also understands that I do not want to walk off the edges of buildings/cliffs (which happens in Batman: Arkham Asylum); if I want off a building, I will choose jump instead of walk. There is also a mini-map on the screen at all time (in Batman you have to exit to a full screen map). The mini-map even shows outlines of the building shapes (very helpful), and uses up and down arrows to let you know if your objective/foe is above or below you. In addition to the story, there are optional side quests to keep things interesting. Although you can play through as evil or nice, there is nothing else in the way of replay value (aside from working towards trophies). The skills in Infamous were unlocked at a nice pace. I also liked that upon receiving a new skill, you were given a mission to complete so that you could get used to your new skill. Infamous definitely helped me improve my FPS skills with the PS3 controller (big change from mouse and keyboard!). Expand

I see plenty of people bashing this game for minor technical glitches. If you focus on technical glitches, many games this gen are littered with them. Take a close look at the heavily praised Gears Of War games for example. They have their fair share of technical glitches, especially online, but they are good games so people look past it. If you have a strong focus on the negative when I see plenty of people bashing this game for minor technical glitches. If you focus on technical glitches, many games this gen are littered with them. Take a close look at the heavily praised Gears Of War games for example. They have their fair share of technical glitches, especially online, but they are good games so people look past it. If you have a strong focus on the negative when reviewing games then that is what you will find. Obviously there are visual glitches such as jagged lines and pop-in throughout the game. Glitches aside, I play on a 46" Sony Bravia HDTV and this is a very good looking game in full HD. The lighting effects and the textures are particularly well done. Also, the story is interesting and the comic book style cut scenes are beautifully done. While traversing Empire City what struck me is how fluid and intuitive scaling the entire city is. Cole can climb the way I wished that Altair could in Assassin's Creed. One thing I love is that I can jump off a tall building and land on a powerline far below if I aim correctly. I also like the fact that Cole can engage in a shoot out no matter what his position is. You can be hanging from the ledge of a building and still shooting reapers down below. The fact is, if Sucker Punch had created a game that was entirely derived from market research then we would have the same crap we have seen repeatedly over this current console generation. while playing Infamous I feel that I am playing a game that was designed first and foremost to be fun to play. I know that Sucker Punch designed this game, just as the Sly Cooper franchise, from the ground up with a fun gameplay experience being the main objective. They have achieved this admirably. This game plain and simple is fun as hell to play. That in my book is the most important factor in gaming. A job well done for Sucker Punch. I look forward to playing any future titles they release as well. Expand

Great game. Haven't yet completed, but have played enough to say that this is an amazing game. The only thing that keeps it from being a 10 is that there a lot of times when you really don't know what direction you're being attacked from if you're not paying close attention to the HUD. I'm doing a "Good" playthrough right now, then will do an "Evil".

The gameplay is exceedingly addicting, and the slightly repetitive side missions are made up for the new powers and upgrades that you get while completing them. Graphically it is very impressive for a sandbox game. Pop-in is at a minimum, and is really only noticeable when you're riding a train at high speeds. Choosing to be good or evil is a satisfying experience, and doesn't change the overall story enough so that the much hinted-at sequel will suffer from the karma differences. Despite all this, inFAMOUS does have its issues, including occasional glitches. I once saw a Reaper (the first enemies you see) that was caught in a falling animation and just looped through the same fall over and over again. I also fell through the world one time, but it didn't have much of an effect on the mission since checkpoints are sprinkled around generously. I highly recommend this game. It can be described as a shooter with electric bullets (that happen to come out of your and) with an open world and platforming elements. A very solid game that is well worth the cash. Expand

The graphics and cutscenes are completely amazing. I love the graphic novel style cutscenes. And the story of this game is beyond words. I have never bonded with a video game character since MGS4. You feel every consequence of the decisions you make. The emotional load you take when you decide to save or kill your girlfriend is incredible. You actually feel like you need to avenge her death if she dies.

While there are a few bugs here and there, it's nothing serious. The replay value of this game is mind-staggering, if you beat the game as a hero, you can play all over again as a villain and with a different story.

It has a great story-line that has a nice little twist which I only guessed right at the end of the game in the final boss battle. The fact that it has a morality rate (karma) of being good or evil will change the outcome of the game and changes your powers completely and makes you at least play the game twice to get a feel of being good and then evil. It's good how each karma status gives you different effects on your power upgrades, such as good being able to give you energy and health, and evil being more destructive. inFamous also includes a nice set of trophies that aren't silly things like killing 500 pedestrians and killing 1000 enemies, but more like completed all stunts and traveling on a train for 2km, etc. It also has trophies as you progress through the story line, a set for being good and set for being evil. I would say it only has one flaw, and that's not being able to go inside buildings, the whole game is set outside, but it would of been better to be able to go inside buildings and trash the place instead of just blowing up cars. I would have definately given this game a rating of 10 if it included being able to go inside buildings. Expand

Fighting enemies is very fun because the main character acquires many awesome electricity based powers, such as Shock Grenades which cause massive explosions and stick to enemies so that they become the center of the blast, Megawatt Hammer which is a power that lets Cole fire electricity orbs that act like rockets and by the end of the game he can create a lightning strike from the sky which can kill any enemy when they get into contact with it. He also gains powers which help him traverse through the whole city in the game faster, such as the induction Grind which lets him grind on rail tracks, wires and the like. I've been able to enjoy the game very much but there are a few problems with it. Like for example, the game has no new game+ option so you can't complete the game and restart from the beginning while retaining all your powers. After completing it you're left to explore the city and complete the side missions, get all the dead drops and blast shards, assuming you haven't done those before completion but most of the side missions aren't very fun and trying to acquire all the dead drops and blast shards get boring real quick. All in all, a very fun game with impressive features such as the karma system and fast climbing feature. I'll be looking forward to the sequel. Great work, Sucker Punch. Expand

I'm unsure why they happen, but invisible walls pop up every now and then, and your dodge button is your "run to cover" button, so often has you simply putting your back up against a car instead of dodging bullets, but the gameplay is almost perfect parting these flaws. Every mission, and every power is extremely well designed. More problems come from the cut-scenes. The animations are fairly poor, and the voice acting at certain points seems incredibly rushed. However, Cole McGrath's voice (voiced by Jason Cottle) is brilliant throughout the game, and the comic-style sequences more than make up for the poorly animated in-game cut-scenes. Overall; the game has a great playing system, and great storyline, but there are a few technical bugs which do tend to annoy me. I'd give the game a 95%, which I should round up to a 10, but I'm not going to. Expand

The combat is fun and there are several ways to handle any combat situation (the game rewards you for being creative). The story is a little lackluster, but the immersion is there. As perfect as it seems at first glance, I do have a few complaints. First off, sometimes the motion animations are a little wonky, this isn't a huge deal but sometimes I wish Cole would just stand up straight. Some of the sound effects (namely the running sound effect) are also a little... odd, especially the footsteps sound effects (which unfortunately you hear all the time). Those complaints are very forgivable and only skindeep. My biggest beef with the game is it penalizes you for playing realistically. Upper level skills are unlocked via the karma system, which only has 2 options, play as a saint, or play as the devil. If you try to take the middle road the game slams you by not letting you unlock the highest rank abilities. While that might not be a problem for some, for me it kind of hurts the immersion of the game. In one mission I might want to kill the guy who just called me a terrorist, but that doesn't mean I want to kick puppies later on, however the game gives you no choice if you want those amazing shock grenades. There should be an option to be neuteral and still be a badass. Those flaws aside, the game is ridiculously fun to play. The side missions are diverse and plentiful (and fun to boot) the story missions can be challenging at times but overall the game is at a pretty low-moderate difficulty. A very fun game none the less, if you have a PS3 you won't be disappointed buying this game. Expand

I agree that a few of the side missions are a bit tedious (following the courier comes to mind), but what game HASN'T had tedious side missions of some sort? The replayability is a tiny bit above Grand Theft Auto 4, with a whole set of new missions for an "evil" playthrough, Cutscenes, while sparse graphically, are still interesting and fit the story perfectly. The "comic book" feel is really prevalent and I enjoy it thoroughly. Combat and controls are EXCELLENT. While still challenging when thirty people are shooting at you from surrounding rooftops, it's easy to feel like a superhero when you do a charged drop on a group of bad guys and spin around shooting bolts of electricity everywhere. Incredibly satisfying too. Honestly, I'm a bit wary of people who have rated this below a 7.5. Not that I don't believe that they have their own opinions, but out of all of them, Eurogamer is the only site that has had any sort of justification other than "I don't like it, it sucks" generalities and various nitpicks. The story is rather subtle because, you know, it gets in the way of the ''blowing **** up'' part of the game. The dialog is simple enough and has it's charm. The comicbook style of the game is very cool and the characters are interesting. The fact that you can choose how to play the game(evil or good) isn't that importent, except that you get a few different powers and moves and the story barely changes. of course, it's stil a nice touch. In inFamous, you play a messenger known as Cole McGrath. After a freak explosion, which caused Cole to gain electrical related powers, you go on a journey throughout Empire City to find out the truth on why this happened to you. I really like the comic book layout when it is displayed through various cutscenes, as it gives a true sense that this is a 'superhero' kind of game. One of the main factors that I really liked was the whole Karma system. The Karma system throughout the game, is where certain decisions you make in the game, affect your appearance, the colour of your electrical powers and how characters react to you. Basically you can either be hated upon, or looked upon as a hero in the eyes of the stricken city. The Karma system gives more depth and realism to this sort of game. Instead of just being a straight forward game, where you just have to play as the 'hero', this game gives you the choice. You can help the citizens of Empire City or restrain or kill the citizens.
For all of you that have a Playstation 3, this game is a must buy.

Story: A take on the superhero genre, InFamous is set in the fictional Empire City, in which a massive explosion causs the rise of superpowered beings known as Conduits. Cole MacGrath is one of the people who turned into Conduits. Armed with electirc abilities, Colde must deal with the threats on the city in the forms of three Conduit factions, led by the aging Alden Tate, the deadly Sasha, and the mysterious Kessler. Now, he can choose to be either the city's savior, or its greatest enemy. - InFamous tells an amazing story of a man with superpowers who can decide if he wants to be a hero, or a villain. While the first half of the story is very good, the second half is simply outstanding, packed with emotional tones and enjoyable action mixed together so well. The characters themselves are well-written as well, from protagonist Cole to his BFF Zeke to the antagonists. 9.5/10.

Graphics: InFamous uses an in-house engine. Honestly, the game is somewhat inferior to other 2009 titles such as Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2. Thankfully Cole's powers look so good and the city, while a bit too brown and grey, is very well-designed. 8.5/10.

Sound: Top-notch voice acting alongside matching soundtrack done by the joint effort a five-man team. Some of the sound effects are rather hit-and-miss. 9/10.

Gameplay: Think of GTA mixed with super-powers of thunder and lightning. Throughout the game Cole will learn and upgrade more abilities. For the most part, it work, great. The boss battles are fun and well-designed to test the player. Platforming works very well and is easy to execute. There are, however, some AI problems, and the city itself feels somewhat lifeless at times, compare to GTA IV and AC2. 9/10.

Lasting Appeal: Story is 20+ long and has good/bad paths, so players can replay the game at least twice. There's a lot of side stuff to do after the main quest is over. Plus, it's just fun to be dicking around in Empire City. 10/10.

Verdict: Powered up with huge playground, enjoyable gameplay and powerful story, InFamous is a superb title in Sony's PS3 family, and a must-own for sandbox-genre or comic book fans.
    Final Score: 9.2/10

When inFamous started out, I was doubtful of what this game would turn out to be. Then as the story progressed I understood of why everything was happening and during the last cutscene, my mind was blown. It was genius. Anyways, without any spoilers, inFamous is a fun game as you take the role of Cole Macgrath and it is up to you to defend....or destroy your city. The choice is yours, have fun.

Pretty fun game. The story has nice twist at the end that none of us could expect. The game's difficulty gets more challenging which some people may not like but it was fine for me. Also, PLAY BOTH GOOD AND EVIL.

Who doesn't love to have the options of just going crazy on the baddies or the civilians/police.. and now we get to do it using the most electrifying moves ever invented. It takes a while to get all the powers, but that is when it truly gets entertaining. Having evil and good powers and endings make you want to play it over and over again.

It was really refreshing to see a new game with a new hero and the story, I found, was so satisfying. The game play combat and moving around etc was great, never any issues. The system of acquiring new moves was really good all dependent on that morality system everyone seems to be using these days. While the choice system is pretty black or white it is really fun and brings you into the game, it means you give your Cole his own sense of character which is good cause he needs it from somewhere. But the ending in terms of whether you are good or bad is very much similar so be ready for that but that in no way annoyed me as the ending was genuinely surprising and made me want to get the next infamous so bad... soo bad. So the story was great and original, the power and the way you obtain them was wonderful and it was really refreshing to be a super character in an open city. I really loved it and I don't think you will regret playing it. Sorry if I am wrong though. Expand

Great story, great game-play. Who doesn't want to be a super hero/anti hero. Who is able to shoot electricity out of his hands. The minor characters were a of a disappointment besides the main antagonist. Zeke did not get his big break till Infamous 2. I really liked the set up of Infamous a normal guy gets gifted with amazing powers. Its truly a great experience.

Graphics it had a cool artstyle with great looking character models, and the framerate was for most of the time consistent when things got really hectic during combat.

Gameplay All the controls felt good, during combat and roaming around empire city. The only problem i had was using the sixaxis during supermoves. Other than that the game had multiple side missions, along with main missions, and fun challenges. The only problem i had was that sometimes it felt like that a lot of the side content felt repetitive and rehashed.

Audio This was excellent, the music was perfect during combat, and the voice acting for cole was perfect. He had the gritty voice that help portray his character in a unique way.

Overall This is a pretty fun game, with some excellent level and free roam designs. Has a cool story with some cool graphics, and just running around the city being a superhero/ supervillian is a cool idea. The only problems i encountered were some repetitive side missions, and some inconsistent framerate when a multitude of things are happening on the screen, like multiple explosions.

Since the scoring on this website goes up bye 1s, i gave it a 9/10, but to me this game is more like a 8.75/10. Just some more polish and different side missions would have helped it to be a even better game.

    Good job Sucker Punch

The powers in the game make it great to explore the map, they are also a good fighting mechanic. The upgrade system makes you feel like you truly are an average person who is still learning how to use these powers. The moral choice system is also a nice addition as the story will have a different outcome depending on your choice of if you wanna be good and save the city or evil and bring it down. Minor complaints I found with the game. Maybe a glitch or two but nothing you won't look past or even notice at all. The game looks beautiful and feels alive as the people around you flee during your battles and notice you actions regardless of good or evil. The sound and voice acting is well done especially for the lightning effects. What was really well done was the way the story was told, this superhero/villain story is told in the form of comic book pages instead of actual cutscenes and I found that to be really cool. Overall, a must own console exclusive and a must play. Expand

Infamous is an amazing game that had never really been witnessed before when it came out. It blends a wonderful combat system with cool characters and an unforgettable choice system. One of my all time favorite games, and one of my all time favorite series.
    PROS:
+Original at it's time, and it still does the concept of superhero better than any other game out there. Not even the Spiderman 2 game can touch this.
+Wonderful, delicious, and juicy 3rd person combat. While ducking into cover can be a pain, it never dims down in terms of action and overall insane intensity - it also flows pretty smooth.
+Writing, it's off-the-wall! While Trish is without a doubt the most dull of all the characters, you're exposed to the hilarious and somewhat charming Zeke, the crazy and lustful Sasha, the bias and hateful TV people/"The Voice of Survival", the old insane and broken Alden, and the star - the intimating agile hero and/or anti-hero: Cole.
+The moral choice mechanic: it is wonderful! While some games like Paper's Please do it more subtly, Infamous also has an unforgettable and, in my opinion, better moral choice system. You way out the pros and cons of the choices you make in your actions, and you get the choice between being selfish and benefiting yourself while hurting others, or taking a hard hit to protect and save the innocent civilians.
+You get the vibe you're in a hopeless environment - one that is barely standing and needs hero to carry it, or a villain to bring it all-the-way down. The people in the quarantined city say things like "I was only supposed to be here a day," or "help, I can't find my daughter!" It delivers a feeling of eeriness and despair.
    CONS:
-Some missions are so difficult it leaves you scratching your head saying, "what idiot came up with this level."
Must buy. If you don't have a PS3, buy one just to play this!

The City of Empire City is so big and fun to explore and its alive too with cars on the street and people either praising you or attacking you depending on how you play the game, I forgot to mention that the city is quarantined due to the explosion causing a biological hazard which I wont spoil.

The extremes were then translated outside of the main missions in terms of how you react to distress signals from civilians.

You have to play through it at least twice to get a full understanding of the story. Your character also developed differently, depending on which extreme you chose on each mission. You could really resonate with the pain the main character had as he tried to make amends barred in a hugely dark, urban, depressing yet fascinating environment. A sandbox environment that was pulled off really well. Taking control of districts by completing side missions which also added to the depth of playing this game the way you want to play it. The freedom is awesome. Graphically the game was fantastic. The characters each paid great dividends to really amp the story in an awesome way; this made them really interesting and memorable.

There were also many different ways you could approach areas and complete certain missions in terms of the way you travel, the way you fight depending on your upgrades or whatnot weighted on either karma extremes. This made the game very fun for me because of the wide range of possibilities I could choose to act upon them.

The only reason I would give this amazing game a 9, that delivered a completely different experience after transitioning from PS2 - apart from the self-explanatory graphic improvement - is because of time-to-time glitches that were slightly irritating from time to time and the ridiculous amount of shards you had to collect to fully complete the game! Way too many, I mean I eventually did it but man that took a while.

To sum it up, awesome game. Would totally recommend to anyone that wants to go back to PS3 and start-up one of the older, classic great games of that generation.
