Grand Thef Auto IV has the best story of all gta games. Atmosphere is very dark and very dirty. Physics and mechanics are really good for 2008 year.

The best GTA game in my opinion. The tune is much darker than in the previous games. The story takes itself seriously without coming by as a parody like the previous games. The map is amazing yes it's small but it's filled with detail I never felt like going from one point to the other was a chore. Highly recommended for fans of the open world genre.

Grand theft auto 4 is one of the best games I have ever played. I like the graphics, AI and physics. It is good but I think the game could have added a bigger and more diverse map like gta san andreas or Gta 5. I think it is the only flaw of Gta 4. I recommend you to try it because it has one of the best storyline ever.

Overall, game is absolutely worth playing and completing, however, on pcs there might be a problem with completing DLCs as taking a wrong sequence of completing missions will freeze the game, forcing us to restart. I also noticed that the DLCs without manual fix are not possible to finish as the only mission needed to complete the game has freezing moment impossible to skip. Expand

Rockstar's physics engine for this game is still amazing. They created a great protagonist like Niko, becoming one of those unforgettable. Liberty City feels realistic. The only negative point, for me, is driving, which feels too heavy.

Anyway, it's a game you should definitely try today. Surely even with the music on the radio stations, you will enjoy it much more.

Also, for a game that strives for realism, I can't help but feel like they could really do more with some easy tweaks. Some of the behaviors of people make no sense at all. I shot the driver of a car in the face and stole his car, and the passenger waited until I made a complete stop do get out of the car! Also, the aiming mechanism is crap. PLZ FOR GOD SAKE MAKE THIS FRIEND OR GIRLFRIEND SYSTEM BETTER, it is for me that when finished a mission sum1 calls that "ooh lets go drinking or go to strip clup" it is fun... for while then it get's irritating like you need to go to some other place or you dont have much time to play he game sum1 like roman call let's go play pool, you say no and then what happens, he or she whines they like you lesser and something else. and it is terriple when 100 friends you are just thinking"oh shit when do they call or blablabla" you get my point. Initially I gave this game a 9, a single point short of a perfect score due to the somewhat clunky controls when walking, driving and shooting. These are smaller annoyances, but the car handling doesn't seem natural when small sedans feel as backheavy as big stationwagons. Lately I withdrew another point when I switched from a 29" SD CRT TV to a 37" full HD LCD TV. The graphics looked impressive in SD, because it blurs out all the little imperfections, but on a large full HD TV these become painfully easy to spot and the sum of them is quite detrimental. Shadows in particular are so badly made they look like something from a game made 10 years ago, and people, cars and buildings look so rough around the edges sometimes you'd think they were partly pixel-based. I can understand why it has got so much critical acclaim as it is a technical achievement in gaming. But it feels as though reviewers are too afraid to say what they really feel. In the fear of being criticized. I can see this game isn't all it was cracked up to be. The multiplayer needs A LOT of work. They need to fix the technical issues such as continuous loading. Definitely a strong addition to the series and a quantum leap in terms of city design and visuals. The combat is vastly improved (Gears of War has a lot to answer for), and missions don't feel as random as before; I actually relished a fire-fight this time, whereas in San Andreas I prepared myself for being hosed down by an enemy I couldn't even target. I can't quite put my finger on it though, but *something* is missing now; some spark of tongue-in-cheek, a hint of cheekiness noticeably absent. Being able to get a taxi anywhere you want removes the tedium of having to drive halfway across the city to pick up your buddy, but isn't driving everywhere what this game is about? I finished the storyline in a few days, and just thought "Oh, is that it?". Though I didn't want to see Nico stealing jet-packs from Area 51 or parachuting onto a dam to blow up generators again, I did sort of miss that vein of silliness, just a little bit. And I really miss dancing and lowrider challenges from the previous installment, GTA San Andreas. The story was much more compelling and discribing, telling the tale of a man rising up from the ghetto, and making a name through various activities and assignments, whereas GTA IV describes practicly the SAME thing, only slimmed down to fit two endings. Visually its great and the entire city is amazing in its detail. The missions are plentyful if not a bit of just the same old thing. Unfortunately what is otherwise an amazing game is let down by some absolutely awful driving controls. Considering this is primarily a game which revolves around driving, its mind blowing how badly the cars drive and the irrotating camera angles used when driving. Its made 100 times worse when driving a motorbike, and attempting to use a helicoptor is beyond belief!! This then bleeds into certain missions which require you to chase people down in cars, or on bike/mo-ped and its beyond frustrating. Those can be a nightmare. Then we have the issue of Missions... if you fail one, you have to restart the ENTIRE thing again from where you begin. Meaning you have to once again find a car, drive to another location (which may be a long distance off) then begin the actual mission. And if you loose your health or your bullet proof vest, you also have to eat and buy a new one, and new ammo BEFORE doing all of that. It would have been better if it respawned you nearer to where the action starts in the mission, and with all the health, ammo and armor you had at that pointt. But instead your health is down, your armor gone and you have to travel there AGAIN. It can cause a lot of shouting and screaming at the TV. But aside from those two big issues... its a great game. Quite honestly not all that different from previous GTA's but the graphics were better and the plot was very good. Missed the country drives of San Andreas and the various side-missions but on the whole still a very good game although I wouldn't say mind-blowing.

It certainly is a great game, but it doesn't wow you like the others did. San Andreas was leaps and bounds above those two, in regards to the sheer amount of activities and cool characters. 4 is good, but I can't help but feel that everything new it brings to the table, they should have gone that 1 step further. The sheer number of radio stations is brilliant, but none of them have as much depth as the smaller number in the previous titles. The friends system is brilliant, but you run out of activities to do with them all pretty quickly and it becomes a chore. The stand up is hilarious, but it doesn't take many visits to exhaust it all. The tv stations are great fun, but only 2 means you'll burn through it all pretty quickly. Multiplayer is great fun though and a very welcome addition. I don't mind the step up in realism, I prefer it. It's what made San Andreas so far ahead of the others. It also makes police chases so much more intense when your vehicle handles and damages realistically. I would 100% recommend buying the game, but don't be too worried about waiting until November for the PC release. If you want it for a console, I recommend the x360 version over the PS3 version because with the x360's better triggers, aiming is quite a bit easier. Ultimately though if you have both consoles, or are looking to buy a console, get it for whatever system your friends have, as bashing around with a group of mates online is fantastic fun. Expand

Niko Bellic bored me; I didn't care about him, I didn't care about his friends, and I didn't care about his enemies. GTAIV suffers from that prevalent yet unworthy trend among games - the quest for realism. Perhaps the physics, story and [most of] the missions are more 'realistic', but parachuting on top of gang leaders and stealing fighter jets is fun, and visually Liberty City appears as though viewed through a scratched, dirty pair of sunglasses. It lacks the cartoonish colour and vibrancy of previous GTA games. Sometimes - in fact, often - realism does not make for a better game. GTAIV is the first in the series that I left half-way through and returned to at a later date. I didn't think much of it at the time, but in hindsight the game obviously didn't pull me in and entertain me.

Of course, this isn't to say it's not a very good game; rather, it suffers from over-hype and exaggerated critical appraisal which, in light of the accusations leveled at Rockstar over their Red Dead Redemption PR, leaves a fairly bitter taste. Very good game, but it is certainly not anywhere near perfection have some reviews would have you believe. The Saints Row games feel more â

The graphics are really realistic: Character models are rendered beautifully as well as facial features and the lip-syncing is accurate most of the time. Liberty City looks awesome and the textures of the alleyways, the road and buildings really enhance the realistic feel of the city. The cut scenes have a cinematic feel to them and help you to get sucked into the lengthy and interesting story. The game play is also great just like any Grand Theft Auto game I played and also improved with the introduction of a cover system which makes the combat a lot smoother and easier. The cars handle with a kind of weighty feel which is a good change from the more twitchier and floaty feel of the cars in Saints Row 2. A great feature of this game is that Niko can socialise with other characters. The various characters that you meet while you complete the story mode may - while in free roam - call you up and ask you whether you want to go on an activity with them. These can range from getting food at a diner to playing bowling. Some of these activities such as bowling and playing darts make up for some simple but somewhat enjoyable mini games. The amount of stuff that you can do is mind boggling. Even after you finish the story mode, there are still lots of side missions to do like vigilante missions, taxi missions and much more. The dialog is well written and due to the huge wealth of dialog in the game like general conversations, the dialog doesn't get tedious very quickly. What makes this game a little bit less frustrating than previous Grand Theft Auto games is that if you die or fail a mission, you receive a text message and you have a choice to restart the mission instead of driving (or walking/running) back to the start marker for that mission to try again like previous Grand Theft Auto games. The graphics maybe ultra realistic but at times it can be too dark. For value for money, this game is phenomenal. Even Rockstar North added a neat multiplayer mode to extend the lifespan even more although I wished you could play through the whole story in co-op mode with a friend. The realistic feel and attention to detail will appeal to some gamers but some of the fun has been sucked out because of this. Don't get me wrong, this is a really good, solid sandbox game and probably one of the best games I've played and captures reality really well but this game does take it a bit too seriously like the fact you can have a relationship with a girlfriend and play bowling, darts and even watch TV! This may sound great but come on. It's a lot better to just play bowling, play darts or socialise with actual people in real life. I mean why we would want to do it in a video game I don't know. Doing these activities in real life gets you more involved. The lunacy and humorous atmosphere that Saints Row 2 has just makes it more fun and enjoyable despite its inferior graphics. Saints Row 2 is a game that like I mentioned in the game review for that game, is a game that doesn't take itself too seriously. Don't let this put you off Grand Theft Auto 4 though as it is a great sandbox game with great depth to its game play and deserves a place in any gamer's action collection. Expand

Did it's controversial formula got old or gamers never gonna get bored in killing innocent virtual pedestrians? STORY: Niko Belic is a Serbian illegal emigrant in America who met again with his cousin Roman and wants to start again his life in, the gloriously described by his cousin, Liberty City (New York) where he will soon realise that it isn't exactly as described. Niko will get involved in situations that aren't that legal "kinda smoothly"but that until he gets his hands dirty, afterwards he gets deeper into the crime scene. Niko's story has a lot of variation and "flavors", he will meet new friends (and some old too), new enemies and a lot of wacky personalities. He will get trusted and betrayed, loved and hated and maybe in the heart breaked.

GAMEPLAY: GTA IV runs on the rails of the previous releases. Niko steals cars, bikes, trucks, choppers etc.He kills innocents with no reason, runs from the cops and gets to work for some not that much of innocent guys. Theres a bunch of cool mission on the basic storyline with drug dealing, car chases, executions and many more which won't let you get bored and will take you about 30 hours to complete. There are also a lot of side missions which can be enter via a PC in an internet cafe, but they get boring soon since the most of them involve stealing and delivering specific vehicles. Another familiar gameplay element are the minigames such as darts, bowling and pool (snooker) and also the options of going on dates, on strip clubs, bars, and banging hookers in your car (no hot coffee). Driving aroun Liberty City is really fun but not flawless, the armory includes a lot of nice weapons and the cover system is pretty good. Of course I have tell you that Nko carries around a mobile phone which won't stop ringing.

GRAPHICS: Well..... they could be better but they are not bad either. Sure, you will find your self trying to set the display options since brightness and saturatiion need fixing but that's not that much of disturbance. The cars look ok but they could have a bit more textures on them, the bikes on the other hand are nicely done. Framerate is steady but rarely will "tremble" a bit (not much of a serious problem). The huge map of Liberty City is filled with nice skyscrappers and big buildings, the streets look good and especially the most of the alleys. The majority of the main characters are nicelly scrapped with decent facial expressions. but the designs of the overall varation of city's populations lacks in number.

SOUND: Music didn't draw me in, mostly because its biggest part is heard through a car installed radio with some fake radio stations which always repeat the same playlist of 4-5 tracks for each one of them.
Though the music in some action scenes is good. The sound effects are there too with the most of the guns sound pretty much the same and pedestrian screams all over the place and the car sounds aren't that much of a treat either. But the real deal in GTA IV's sound design is the voice acting, it is really great. Niko has the appropriet voice and Roman too, the accents are exactly as they should and the acting makes the characters more believable. Another great thing is that in a multi-ethnicity game like this we get to hear the real languages [Serbian, Albanian, Russian, Greek (taxi drivers), Spanish(Mexican) etc.]

VERDICT: GTA IV is a worth byuing for core-gamers and a must buy for all the GTA fans.
Sure, it has it's flaws but they all get over-shadowed by the fun gameplay.

    - To much blur and an awfull blue tint
    - Lack of interesting features outside of the storyline (clubs, barbershops, car dealerships etc.)

While some of these missing features was added i TBoGT many of them should have been in the game in the first place. I like the serious tone GTA IV story has, but the problem is, that outside of the story, the game often becomes repetetive and dull. There is simply not enough features; clubs, more races, drug deals, golf etc. Mission design is quite poor and the creativity (not talking about over-the-top action in TbOGT) is somehow diluted, and the game almost have the same mission design as in GTA III: Go there, kill a few people, go back.

Graphics: Right now, GTA IV's visuals are nothing special, but back in 2008, I'm sure the graphics were innovative. Facial models are above average, but the one place GTA IV excels at is the world design. Liberty City was suppose to be Rockstar's version of NY, and even to this day, LC still looks great (especially at night). The atmosphere is great, and each pedestrian I meet looks different from the last.
Gameplay: One innovation added in GTA IV is a cover system which is not bad, but I've seen better in Gears of War and Uncharted, the hand-to-hand combat felt awkward, and the shooting still works (auto-aim can get annoying since it sometimes aims at civilians instead of enemies). The vehicles are fun to drive, but the brakes take a second or 2 to work. Since the story is long, there are going to be a lot of missions to complete (94 in total). The biggest problem I had with this game is that the mission variety is low.(Shootouts, Running from the cops, a few heli missions, and vehicle chases). I really hated the motorcycle chases since I kept falling off the cycle, and the guy I'm chasing can handle 30 SMG rounds and not fall off the bike. This meant I had to RESTART THE MISSION since there's NO CHECKPOINT in missions there are checkpoints in the episodes however). I was also disappointed by the short number of cheats in the game.
Multiplayer: Even though more people are playing on the episodic multiplayers, the main game's multiplayer is still fun to play. You got your standard deathmatches, races, and story CO-OP missions, but you also got free roam which is a blast to play online with others.
Overall: GTA IV is starting to feel outdated with all the new sandbox games coming out, but that doesn't mean it's not fun to play. With a good story, funny dialogues, and crazy multiplayer, GTA IV is definitely worth $20 Rating: 8

This is a great game! However, the frustrating save system and some boring missions that feel like they were just added as filler to make the game longer hold this back from being the instant classic that it could have been! but this is still a great game that anybody who is a fan of crime/ mobster movies should definitely check out!

Driving around the city and doing your own thing is where the main fun of GTA:IV lies. If only I could without being called every five minutes. Bowling anyone?

GTA IV is quality. The expanded game world and other additional features enhance game-play, and its undeniably long storyline fails to become un-exciting, even after hours. The new Liberty City is memorable, and provides the perfect backdrop for GTA IV's story to take place.

The 10's given to this game by "professional" reviewers are clearly not just about the quality of the game. The reviewers have clearly been influenced by other factors. Gaming review scores in general have clearly become favors to the game developers, and this is an example of that taken to extremes.

Now, having said that, I am not saying this is a bad game. In fact, it is actually a very good game, but to call it perfect or near perfect is absurd. It's also very odd that a lot of "professional" reviewers are indicating that they are scoring the game higher because it is newer and has better graphics, etc. Since when did we start doing this? If this is how we are going to look at games then all of the new games are all better than older games. I guess "Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare" is way better than the original "Alone in the Dark" because it is so much newer and has graphics that are far more advanced. No, that can't be right because "Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare" was almost universally declared a piece of garbage, while "Alone in the Dark" is frequently listed as one of the best games of all time. (It's worth mentioning that the game developer for the newer game threatened reviewers with a lawsuit over their reviews of the game when it came out.)

Getting back to GTA IV, there are far too many flaws for it to be considered near perfect. This one is obviously subjective to some extent, but the music and radio is very disappointing when compared with previous versions. I'll allow this to not even count since it is so subjective, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. I quickly turned off the radio and left it off. I never did that in any of the previous versions. Still, this is one of the great features of the GTA series that makes it standout from other games that do not even have this feature so I won't count this.

This may also be subjective to some extent, but the story and characters are boring with a capital B. The characters look and sound boring. We went from actors like Ray Liotta as the main character in "GTA: Vice City" to the crap in GTA IV? I'm curious if anyone out there cares about Nikko and his cousin at all. Even the other hoods that give you your jobs are boring. While watching and listening to the video in the game for the first time I wanted to just skip over it. For me, the music, story, and characters alone make this game far less entertaining than all previous versions of the GTA series. This version of GTA is also too serious. I always thought some of the negative things (violence, sex, etc.) said about the GTA series in the media were a bit ridiculous because it was hard to see how anyone could take the games that seriously, but with this version I can see their point a little, (Just a little!) because it's too serious. One last thing, the game seems much less creative in it's content than previous iterations.

I am not going to go over the good or great facets of this game because that has been done to death. I just wanted to post a review to comment on how overrated the game is, even though it is still an excellent game.

'Grand Theft Auto IV' is, lets face it, a great game.

I found GTA IV to be so fulfilling, so deep, so interesting. The story based around Niko Bellic is a great one, possibly one of the best in the series. But, this great, beautiful game has a lot of drawbacks that for me lowered the score.

The first; is that it isn't fun. Yes, GTA has always been fun, but, I feel that Rockstar wanted to create a dramatic, serious film-like game where we just sit back and watch. I did mission after mission, because I couldn't find fun stuff to do in the spare time between missions.
The atmosphere in Liberty City also makes the game seem boring, drab, and bland. Everything is colourless, grey, and just has an overall sad feel to it.

The second; is that your friends will constantly call you whilst you're doing something important. I can't count how many times I've heard Roman (Niko's Cousin) ask me if I wanted to go 'bowling' with him. This may not seem like a major issue, but, I warn you that it will get very annoying when your cousin constantly interrupts your daily shoot-out with the police, or a very important part of a mission.

Other than these issues, I found 'GTA IV' to be enjoyable. But, I have to say that I didn't enjoy it as much as I did its predecessors. Overall, I recommend 'IV' for a hardcore fan of the series, but, I must warn you that although 'IV' is similar to its predecessors, it lacks a lot of traits that made the previous installments so amazing!

It's a great game overall. Maybe it's a little bit too realistic. I wanted to see a little bit of unrealism in it. I also think that the game is overrated. Like I said, it's a great game, but previous GTA games were better in some ways. So, 8/10

Pretty good. There's a lot of detail and effort put into the game, some mechanics may seem outdated, but it lives up to its legacy. The framerate in PS3 might be a problem, but it doesnt break the fun overall.

It may not be the best gta game but it is one of the best games I have ever played. Its got great graphics, great voice acting, so many memorable characters, good sound track, good realistic driving physics and one of the best stories I have ever seen in a videogame.

But that doesn't mean the game doesn't have problems. Sometimes the framerate drops when the action gets too explosive, so many nice features from San Andreas and other previous gta games have been removed, its smaller than San Andreas and once you have finished the game there aren't a lot of fun activities to do but once you are in this situation you can always have fun with your friends using online multiplayer(just check out KYR Speedy's videos on youtube).
My verdict is that even though its different from previous gta games its still a great game for current gen because of its graphics and physics but don't go into this game expecting it to find features from other gta games just play to experience the thrill of playing a gta game on a new gen of consoles.

Story:The story is very simple at times and very complicated in others but it is nothing very special except the final missions which were awesome. But the story in general will be just enough to get you going. The story took me about 25 to 30 hours to finish it.

Graphics: The graphics are great and big improvement from previous titles in the series.

Notes:The clothing options were very limited and most of them were not even good but the game is great and I totally recommend to everyone to buy it ,this game worth the full price.

First of all this is a great game in a great serie, no arguying there, but for me it did not feel as alive as some of the others, especially Vice City, which are my favourite. Some of the mission just did not feel that exciting to me, maybe because it is similar to the other gta games and It did not feel fresh anymore.

  1. Grand Theft Auto IV is not a perfect game, but it is fantastic through and through, from start to finish and beyond. It is so massive, vast and impressive that it is almost mind-boggling to imagine how much work must have gone into the game to come up with so much detail.
  2. But GTA IV will never get old, or start repeating itself. It will always offer anyone who turns it on an experience to savour.

GTA4 is a traditional crime story through and through, with a script that rarely strays from its purpose, a pitch-perfect supporting cast, and an expert combination of in-game storytelling and crafted cut-scenes. [June 2008, p.80]
