This game deserves a high rating, because I know it's good. But the game keeps on freezing on ps3. Reinstalling doesn"t help tough. The CD has no scratches and harddisc is fine too. It is barely playable in this stage. Hoping for patches for such an old game is hopeless. Gonna try out the remake instead.

    A LOVELY SPACEWALK AMONG NECROMORPHS

    BEFORE WE BEGIN:
The game has been completed multiple times and in all difficulty levels present, as well, the platinum trophy has been achieved. It has also been tested at both 30 fps and 60 fps.

    EXTRACTION:
Unlike its predecessor, Dead Space 2 throws the player immediately into the middle of the action. In the first few minutes of the game, the story of the original is briefly hinted at with a nice cutscene following that brings up the beautiful necromorphs that clearly begin to slaughter anyone breathing inside the facility. Clearly, as is the first chapter, a chasing sequence will begin from which the player must escape unharmed, or nearly so, and then learn the game's first basic mechanics useful for mere survival. These are brilliantly placed in rapid sequence, making their learning and combined use, much more intuitive.

    FLYING THROUGH THE SPACE:
The gameplay of the game, as an excellent sequel to an already established still excellent game should do, brings back all those mechanics already present in the original, adding, as one would expect, new weapons, enemies and puzzles. The fluidity of movement has been greatly improved, making both dodging enemies, and catching them, from enemies, faster and smoother (Small note to Xbox Game Pass and PC, which make with 60 fps gameplay borderline to modern gaming). One of the big differences is the improvement of the Zero-G system, now adjusted for smoother and less restricted free movement, and consequently the addition of combat sequences and puzzles appropriate to the new mechanics.
The presence of new weapons of course is not to be ruled out, including the Javelin, a powerful spear-shooter capable of piercing enemies and then detonating them; the Seeker rifle, a high-caliber sniper rifle; the force gun, useful for throwing enemies against walls and keeping them well away and the Detonator, a simple grenade launcher. The game then has several difficulty levels as in its predecessor, including the infamous Hardcore Mode, which, however, will now be tied to a maximum of 3 possible saves for the player, making it a great challenge for any player. The reward for this feat will be the world-famous Pew Pew gun, also known as Devil's Horns or Hand Cannon, a baseball cheer mitt capable of one-shotting virtually any creature in the Dead Space world. The new enemies are many, and they go to highlight everything that might have been missing on Dead Space.

    THE SUN NEVER SHINES:
Visually Dead Space 2 also comes across as more arrogant than the original. By not being tied to a single spaceship design, the designers had much more field in which to express their talents, creating huge space cities, moon bases, deep space flight sections, and even a few goodies for those who played the original. The graphics turn out great for the year of release, and because of that it has managed not to age. Let alone the wonderful designs of the new weapons, characters, and enemies, which always look impeccable.

    SUFFOCATING SILENCE:
Everything that is already present in Dead Space 1 applies here. To make a long story short, the audio is always perfectly dedicated to what it's supposed to achieve, whether it's the suffocating silence of space, or the swarming noises of necromorphs in the ducts, or the heartbreaking screams of dying commoners, Dead Space 2 always gets it right, setting the atmosphere that every horror game should have.

    BUT WHY 9?

    PROS:
Dead Space 2 is the sequel in every way to its predecessor. Valueting the original an 8, cannot help but getting the sequel a 9, improving on or maintaining virtually all of the merits and eliminating most of the flaws. The gameplay is still fun even after multiple runs, even just dismembering necromorph bodies is highly addictive. The story is a continuation of the first, and it is much more extensive, explaining facts unknown in the first and giving the basis for the third. Objectively Dead Space 2 is a great game in the Horror genre and an expansion of the already established first Dead Space.

    CONS:
The path toward Action. This is what you feel when playing Dead Space 2, that middle ground between a true horror and a third-person action shooter. Obviously for those who have played the third chapter it will be clear why, it bridges the two genres. This is obviously a flaw that , however extreme, led to the downfall of the third chapter, and the subsequent closure of the development team, Visceral Games. Also, a second flaw, the game turns out, because of its size and setting, to be much more alive. This might be a pro for some, but in a horror game where the loneliness of the space is the focal point it goes to take away that side of eeriness that the first one had.

The first thing I want to say is that both the art style and and engine powering this game is so impressive it actually helps the game look just as good and sometimes even better than most AAA games released years after it's release and the fact that the frame rate is a LOT more stable this time on my PS3 is pretty much another thing worth bowing down to Visceral Games for. Also the game is shot in ALMOST a one shot camera just like both God of War games (albeit there is this one time when the camera faded to black and that was more jarring than you think). The zero-gravity sections INFINETELY more better than the first since you now float in mid-air and have 360 degree movement as opposed to the stiff and limited Superman jumping that I had trouble working around with. I definitely prefer this game's characters over the original since they're more desperate here in this game and 2 of Isaac's companions are simply brilliant due to how one is a badass and the other helps motivate the player to save Isaac before it's too late. Speaking of Isaac, the fact he has a voice fleshes out his character even more and I don't miss the "silent protagonist" in even the slightest. The combat is roughly the same as the first but the reason it still feels fresh is because the enemy variety is bigger here causing you to string up new "combos" (there's no combat counter here but it was the best way I could describe it) and the kinesis is upgraded in a way to now attack the enemies to the point where it feels crazy that this wasn't in the first. The game also takes a trip down memory lane (kinda literally) with taking a location in the first game and because of how it managed to scare you before, you're on the edge of your seat feeling extremely uneasy thinking a jump scare will occur. The atmosphere is divisive on whether or not it's better than the first and I would say most likely no but it's really close because some environments can get bright allowing to fight the enemies without feeling scared. The story is amazing since it showcases what's happening to Isaac after the events in the first game, you feel like you're gonna go insane with Isaac if you don't help him, and the lore is expanded with some of the audio logs being emotional to keep the game interesting. The horror is exceptional with the jump-scares being scarier, it drains your sanity constantly to ensure you stay scared, and there's this one particular moment at the end of the game that'll straight up make you not want to finish the game. Finally, the reason I give this game a 10 is because if you beat this game on the hardest difficulty, you unlock a foam finger that straight up ANNHILATES all of your enemies and it feels so satisfying when your enemies fall to pieces after they terrorized you for the past 10 hours. Now because of how I got this game not too long after The Callisto Protocol, the servers for the multiplayer have already shut down so I can't comment on it but I can definitely say the Severed DLC is strange because if you never played Dead Space Extraction, their character arcs make no sense and the DLC doesn't do nearly enough to encourage them to actually play DSE with short it is and how your upgraded weapons from the base game DON'T transfer over to the DLC. Overall, given how successful the Dead Space remake is, I have zero doubt this game is gonna get the same treatment and I hope that it's just as good since Dead Space 2 is the best game in the franchise imo.

Thanks to its awesome sound design, the game is still scary. But it is scary in a way that Aliens was, keeping tension constantly high throughout the game. There is also great replay value here, because you unlock different difficulty modes which you can complete with your upgraded weapons brought from your previous saves.

Overall, I loved Dead Space 2. I did not love it as much as I did Dead Space, but that is not a drawback, considering the first game is one of the best horror games ever made. I totally recommend Dead Space 2. It’s as good as a sequel can get.

This game takes place 3 years after the original on a ship named the Sprawl. Isaac starts of in an asylum for the insane and then the rest of the game plays out with Nicole and visions haunting Isaac. I love the story although it can drags at times. The game also has some really intense moments like a train sequence is great. The bosses also add a fun element to the game as well. The ending to me was fantastic in my opinion and where dead space as a whole should of ended, a sense of dread but satisfaction, I love it. We then get a post credit scene which set up Dead space 3, I liked it when I finished Dead Space 2 but now wish we didn't have it after playing dead space 3.

The new characters like Ellie are nice additions to the game and adds more to the game, the first one was about isolation for the most part but this game adds characters which betray you or help you, thankfully it works.

The psychological element to this game makes sense after the ending of the original and works really well playing with the player, what is real and what is not, Nicole is creepy as hell and gave me nightmares, that's what a horror game should do. Sure this game has a lot of jump scares and they wear off after a while but it also adds tension as you never know when something is gonna jump out.

The DLC was okay, pretty forgettable, but is really cool as we see what Isaac has left behind from the battles but sadly the character Gabe who appears in Dead Space Extraction (which is cool) was forgettable and doesn't really add anything in my opinion to the story of the second game.

This game was amazing to me and still holds up well to this day. Every horror fan should at least play this game through once, it is one of the few horror sequels which objectively can be said to be better than the original.

Indeed, weighing psychological soundtrack, Silent Hill 2-like dead girlfriend theme, hallucination scenes and, of course, scary locations full of darkness, unexpected monsters and creepy background lore - what can be a more impactful mix of horror? But more important is an addition of new higher difficulty level - zealot. At last, I finally felt uneasy while journeying through necromorph littered Titan station - two hits are enough to tear Isaac to shreds while ammo reserves barely covers your accuracy expenses. Speaking of journeying - Dead Space 2 is now seamless, without any backtracking, voiced protagonist and lots of breathtaking actions scenes (‘BOOM’ and all all that). These action engravings are weaved flawlessly into survival-horror core, evoking only positive emotions and rapture. Add to this general gameplay improvements here and there (like refined graphics, more convenient controls and interface, removal of questionable gameplay elements like puzzles and minigames, reworked space traversal) and you will get a model example of how a sequel must be done. Classic Dead Space highlights remained absolutely the same (and thus perfect): limb shooting, unconventional weapons and extremely satisfying feel of combat in general. Dead Space 2 does not touch elements that are already in the right place - another property of a successful sequel.

I scored predecessor with 7 because I felt it to be too templated and careful in realization. Well, Dead Space 2 resolves exactly this problem - it is independent, challenging bravely new heights and masterfully achieving them.

Dead Space 2 is the repetition of a story already seen: a second chapter that, although distorting the nature of the first, is considered by most reviewers, critics and players, better than the previous one. We saw it with Mass Effect, for example. I don't agree with this logic and here, I will explain why.

Dead Space 2's plot takes us back where it had left us. Isaac Clarke was "recovered" and 3 years later, found himself placed in an asylum, due to his connection to the Marker's effects. From there on, things will only get worse, with a large-scale of necromorphs outflow. Nice: the story immediately begins with a bang, compared to the slow start of the first chapter. It's an interesting plot and certainly pushes strongly until the end of the story. I liked the Sprawl setting, but I preferred that ship stranded in space, called Ishimura. However, what I didn't appreciate, it's not only the excessive enigmatic halo linked to the events, but also the way in which they take place: in the first Dead Space, each chapter was concluded with a monorail tram system that brought you to the next destination, to the next chapter. You felt satisfied, relieved, and yet you knew that when that tram stopped, you'd have a great deal of work again. Not in Dead Space 2: the plot is a simple straight line, no interleaved pause, each chapter of the game comes and you couldn't even notice it, if it's not for a shy written line down-right the screen. This brings us to the second point. Isaac is an engineer, and it was nice to play his role in the first game: each chapter was a task, an effort – even professional – aimed at solving a situation, increasing the probability of surviving and get home in one piece. In Dead Space 2, a good part of the game is nothing but chasing people, and trying to reunite with certain characters encountered in the events. An almost constant "We will meet there" rigmarole. A few times, Isaac's actions really make the difference and if the difference is there, it's little perceived. It is a plot inferior to the one of the first Dead Space, substantially.

Gameplay: what a second chapter should really give to be superior to the previous one? What was improved? The movements of Isaac, faster and more fluid, even in the beating with the foot or in the slap, far too slow in the first chapter; other plus points are the possibility to interchange suits, select them at will, the space flight sections with the suit, the freer gravity zero phases and the bypass method of electronic systems. But there's a problem in how Dead Space 2 manages to be a more difficult game than the first, even if it's less survival horror – I played at "Survivalist" mode the first time. In a survival horror game, few resources must be managed to deal with enemies that, in a higher number than yours, will try to kill you. In Dead Space 2, on the contrary, few resources must be managed to face many, too many, enemies in situations that have nothing to do with survival horror. Think about the ridiculous section with Tripods in the elevator (chapter 7), or the section on the mining drill (chapter 12), which is more acceptable but nonetheless out of place. Dead Space 2 mixes two genres, action and survival horror, that have nothing in common. I can't face dozens of enemies with 20-25 of Plasma cutter energy cells, just as I can't be scared if all I do is shoot as if I'm playing Uncharted. This paradoxically makes the game more difficult not for its survival component, but because I have to use few ammo (typical of survival horror games), to face dozens of enemies (typical of action games). Obviously other changes are aimed at simplifying the gameplay: removed the map, one of the things best done in the first game, to leave only the ridiculous "Navigation System", which now provide not only the goal to be reached but also the nearest store, bench and save station! In addition to this the power nodes can be freely reassigned, and their quantity (seemed to me) is quite excessive. My guys: Dead Space 2 has an identity crisis, this is the point, it is difficult in the wrong way. And despite everything it can be fun and even scary, but I can't accept a so messy mix of ideas in a game that is a sequel to one of the best survival horrors of the past decade.

Graphically the game is undoubtedly better than the first one, and excellent even after more than 7 years. The soundtrack is good but it's in the ambient sounds, in the chilling echoes and screaming moans, that the game gives the best as the first Dead Space.

There is no doubt that Dead Space 2 is a game that has improved in some things and that is able to make genuinely fear. However, some naive errors in wanting to merge two different genres, action and survival horror, made it a strange jumble. No doubt that many more people appreciated it and sales prove it. However I continue to claim that Dead Space 2 is far from being better than the first, fascinating, Dead Space.

Despite my experience slaying the shambling horrors of Dead Space, I was on my toes and cautious a good way through the sequel, and I did jump frightened at some bits. Many things are the same, but the new setting of the sequel, being an actual city rather than a dark and dank mining ship, has you feeling unsettled in a different sense than the first. You now feel that this is a place where people actually lived, coming across residences and shopping centers and schools, being all the more poignant when these familiar settings are overrun with the Necromorph threat, with corpses abound and blood staining the floors and walls.

A new addition to the previous gameplay is the changes to the zero-G sequences. Instead of the clunky act of jumping back and forth between surfaces, you are given full three dimensional control over in the air with your suit's thrusters, allowing you to fly through the air and adding a whole new aspect to combat in these areas, letting you fly around over your foes and blast them with superheated plasma. It's fun, and even though it's not as scary overall as the first Dead Space, it definitely does feel like Dead Space, still remaining true to its core of staying alive against the Necromorph menace.

Dead Space 2 is great and is another successful installment in the Dead Space franchise. Copying the formula already established in the original, Dead Space 2 improves on everything Dead Space already established, and while that's all I hoped for, I can't help but feel it falls a little behind due to all the new features and tweaks added.

Dead Space 2 picks up 3 years after the original. After his successful escape from the Ishimura and the Necromorphs that haunted it, Isaac Clarke has been kidnapped and forced into experimentation in an attempt to study the after effects of coming into contact with the marker. Unfortunately, Isaac still suffers from the Marker's effects and has to deal with the hallucinations of his dead girlfriend. To strengthen the story, Isaac has been given a voice and Isaac works well as a main character with a personality, and his struggle with madness makes up the better parts of Dead Space 2's journey. The other aspects of the story hold up well, with interesting side characters and an interesting setting, with the only real weakness centering around the weak antagonist, Teidman. Overall, the story is excellent.

As for the gameplay, it largely remains the same. Necromporphs are fast creatures with blades for arms and the main form of killing them is to severe their limbs. The gameplay requires a cool head and percison, making every kill satisfying and rewarding. Many new improvements have been added to make gameplay smoother as well. The laser sights have been centered to make aiming at long distance easier, but the original aiming is still available. The stasis bar now has visible segments and regenerates to a certain amount, since kenisis is now needed more. You can now use kenisis to impale enemies with weapons and the necromorph blades, and all enemies now drop items and ammo. Power Nodes are more plentiful to make upgrading easier, and the new game plus can now be used to take on higher difficulties with full upgrades in tow.

Overall, the game is still fun, with one important caviot. The previous Dead Space game was a blend of horror and action. This sequel opts for trade offs between action and horror and as a result, combat has gotten more hectic, with more enemy varieties, numbers, and an increase in enemy projectile based attacks. This more action focused gameplay could've worked if the core gameplay was adjusted to meet the new standards, but it wasn't.

With the increase in enemies and enemy types, the hectic combat has made it very easy for the necromorphs to sneak up on you from behind. It may be more realistic, but without a counter measure or new mechanic to deal with these rear attacks, combat ultimately becomes cheap. This is something that never happened in the previous Dead Space, so combat was rarely frustrating, but here, it's a normal occurrence. Plus, the influx of enemies create a few scenarios where the fighting lasts too long, and combat can become overwhelming. There's also more enemies equipped with projectile based attacks, but no dodge mechanic to compensate. Lastly, it does't help that some of the little problems in the first game haven't been fixed successfully. Your kenisis based attacks and stasis move will randomly miss, go through enemies or do no damage upon contact. It's not common, but whenever it happens, it can be infuriating, esecially in the heat of battle.

With the new focus on action gameplay, Dead Space 2's gameplay just wasn't tweaked well enough to meet the new challenge. While still fun, combat is also a very frustrating and unfair endeavor, especially in the last few chapters.

Strangely enough, this game has also added a multiplayer mode. The premise is a team of humans going up against a team of necromorphs. The humans have to complete an objective within a limited amount of time while the necromorphs have to do their best to stop them. For the humans, controls largely remain the same, and ranking up unlocks more suits, upgrades and weapons to use in battle. The necromorphs are controlled not just by AI, but by players as well. The controls are simple and easy to get the hang of, but I do wish there was a tutorial teaching you to use them. Getting thrown in the deep end from the beginning wasn't easy.

Even though the multiplayer can be fun, it's not very deep. With only one mode (complete the objective) and a small amount of maps, multiplayer is fun but doesn't have enough meat on it's bones to encourage you to buy Dead Space 2 specifically for it. The campaign is still the strongest aspect of the Dead Space series while the multiplayer is just a fun distraction, but it's not anything that will be missed if ditched completely.

Ultimately, Dead Space 2 is a worthy successor and sequel to the groundbreaking original. While not quite as good as the first due to all it's new flaws and lackluster multiplayer, Dead Space 2 is still a well made game that fans of the original have to play.

Seems that they wanted to make harder game than 1st part but did it bad and on wrong places, so some situations in game are more funny than scary as it should be.

Dead Space 2 gives you a Bioshock feel especially early on. Whereas the Ishimura just gave the feeling of a functional ship, the environments in 2 feel like the sum of their parts. Games like this can easily fall into a cliché story, but Dead Space 2 does a nice job of being more original than falling into the same story arcs of other horror stories. Nothing is too overplayed: music, enemies popping out of nowhere, etc. Very linear. Might’ve been moreso than the original. Another negative is that as the game progresses, you’ll figure out what enemies and how many will be coming based on the room layout and size. There’s also the occasional problem with the story where it’s the usual “Oh man! Item A broke down, I’ll go fix Item B, so we can progress”. It is not as noticeable as other games, but it gets tiresome in the later chapters. Despite the linearity, the pace is differentiated by varying elements. You’ll have the usual flying in zero gravity as well as feet on the ground sequences. The game is not too long and not too short. Like the original, it is completely up to you how you make your way through. This is welcomed freedom. You can upgrade any weapon, or not even use a weapon at all. In fact, the gameplay is basically a carbon copy of the first. Whereas in other games I’d find this a significant issue, I did not mind. For a price of around $10, this game is definitely worth picking up. Expand

DS2 doesn't have big improvements over the first, but lots of small ones. There are a handful amount of characters and all their performances all top notch. Clarke be praised. The story itself is one depressive yet epic trip through the head of Isaac. This game had lot: ''Is this game scary?'' questions. On easier difficulties. No it's not. But if you play it on Survivalist or Zealot on your first or second run (Zealot without new game+). Oohhh you'll get brutalized, you'll feel the intensity and sometimes you'll feel hopeless. And there is a Hard Core mode. 3 Saves, No new game+, Survivalist/Zeolot mix, low ammo and med packs. And if you die, you'll go back to your last save.
DS2 it's single player has a high replay value like old school Resident Evil. With that I mean: Speedruns, X weapon only, No med packs, etc.. This game is just awesome. It has action and horror and survival on the higher difficulties And DS2 pulls off the combination perfectly. It had me in a chokehold from start to finish, and I watend more. And a game like that deserves a good score. Oh, multiplayer is fun with friends for a bit. But yeah... in DS2 the single player matters the most.
Love it with every cel of my body. A great update of the first one. Isaac really needs a shot to redeem himself from DS3, for real.

However the awe and wonder which it’s predecessor struck in the heart of the player has gone. Whereby you knew your ship inside out and how it was all interconnected in “Dead Space”, powering on the Engines, restoring oxygen in Hydroponics, powering back on the communications array… You now traverse from room to room on The Sprawl and feel like the developer is trying to show you cool and interesting things rather than them existing naturally. You go from an amazingly built Church of Unitology to a kindergarden to a life support generator which makes you wonder… “Who would build these next to eachother?”

Because of this seemingly poor level design structure you get off the Sprawl without any sense of real achievement. You didn’t really power back on anything, the developer did. Going from epic scene to bossfight is great if you can also believe the world you are in. Ultimately, “Dead Space 2″ is overshadowed by it’s predacessor and has lost the immersion that it once had. The best part of “Dead Space 2″ wasn’t flying through space or shooting 100 monster-children in the Church, it was when you returned briefly for 1 of the 15 chapters to the location of the first game and you remembered how amazing it was to be once onboard the famous USG Ishimura.

like its predecessor it had a awesome and scary feeling, the story chains together in my own opinion, because if you played the first dead space, you literally see back key location you had to fight trough, you sometimes get memories from the first game, what ain't make sense if you never played that one.

09/10: good game play, scary game play, good story, challenging enemy's.
the only downside was the multi player, it died to fast, and it worked mostly on the fact how fast you can press a button, what makes custom controller users in a big advantage..

It's funny how I read a guys review on here he gave it a bad review saying that it's the same game as the 1st one, but I went into his profile and he rates CoD Modern Warfare 3 a 10? Call of Duty sucks balls and people are manipulated by the micheal bay syle campaign. It sucks and is for casuals anyway.... Dead Space deserves a good score, you can tell they worked their asses off on this game. I do not like EA but this game is an exception. This IS a unique game because you can't just shoot an enemy normally, you have to shoot off it's limbs so they die. I don't care what anyone says because this game is scary, don't tell me that you never jumped or twitched at all in this game, unless you had the sound off. Play this game alone with the lights off. If you jumped then that means you were scared, don't give me any B.S.... The game has a lot of replay value so it's an automatic success considering most games these days are a play once then forget about it. Yes the were more action oriented in this game, but the game stuck to it's roots and still felt like more of a horror game. You still got to play alone and fight things alone,You do end up meeting up with people but only for like 2 secs. The death animations were awesome and monters are pretty cool. One thing I didn't like about this game was when you got close to the end of the game from chapter 10 and up, the game started getting cheap, the first 10 chapters enemies wouldn't appear behind you, but in the last 3 or 4 chapters you would be walking along and an enemy would spawn right behind you and it's hard to figure out where the enemy is comming from, plus I never play my games on easy or normal I play always on hard. Well I played on Zealot and these parts were the only parts I constantly died at. The last boss wasn't as fun as the last boss in Dead Space 1, but the way the story was in the second game made it to be the perfect way to end the game. The game has no loading and has short ingame cutscenes which is amazing, you never get distracted. The graphics are nice and the controls are pretty good. The weapons are cool, but on Zealot I just used a fully upgraded plasma cutter and no other weapons were nessessary, although other weapons are fun to use. Yes the game is linear but this type of game was meant to be linear, it's like a 3rd person corridor shooter. Frankly if this game wasn't linear it probably wouldn't be as good because the game wouldn't be pacing properly. People have to realize that linear doesn't really mean bad, it's just that some devs make horrible linear games. Visceral (Dead Space) did it right. The story is also unique and fun,you never quite no what's going on until things become revealed to you. The people who voted negative on this game need to put down Call of Duty and appreciate a work of art such as this, because this franchise is the last hope for the horror genre, because Resident Evil is not horror anymore and never really was because it never made me jump and I played all of them. Silent Hill feels outdated but still has really creepy elements to it atleast, Silent Hill was always more scary than Resident Evil. But Dead Space just feels good..Good story,Good Controls,Good Scares,Good third person shooter,Good detail, Good game. I hope Dead Space 3 continues to WOW it's real fans, and I sure as hell hope they do not go the Route of Resident Evil. I know Dead Space 3 will have online Co Op, I think this might not be a good idea but I said the same thing about Dead Space 2 before I bought it, and the devs are smart and they know that Dead Space is a horror game and they know it. Aslong as they do not sell out like almost every other company then they will be fine, but considering EA is a **** company it wouldn't surprise me if Viseral catches the Greed. Most devs are catering to the casual market, when they sell out their hardcore fans. Without Hardcore gamers, gaming would be nothing today. Let's hope Viseral keeps to it's roots :) Expand

I am a hardcore fan of the Dead Space series so I wanted to nostalgia of playing Dead Space 2 die down before i wrote a review. When i first played it, i couldn't stop raving about it. It seemed perfect, but now i look at it again and i do see some faults to it. EA listened to the community after the first Dead Space and tried to fix some of the problems of the first game. Isaac now has a voice, he is disturbed by the thoughts of what happened on the Ishimura, but mostly of his deceased girlfriend, Nicole. Hearing him talk makes Isaac a more likable character, you now know why he is doing what he is doing and hearing what he is feeling. Combat is much improved, but more badass weapons in taking out necromorphs and Isaac can now "fly" around in space with thrusters on his boots. The game takes place on a space colony called Sprawl, meaning the badies can now take the form of children and more complex types of enemies. All of that makes the game feel more complex and the addition of Isaacs voice makes for a better story and more emotional connection to things, but after it all the scare factor is almost game. Dead Space was scary, which made it so much fun, but its sequel tries to ake the player feel more powerful with more weapons and Isaac feel like a badass, meaning less time feeling scared and more time feeling powerful enough to take the whole Sprawl on. That is why i can't give this game a 10 even though i love it so much and it honestly takes everything I had a problem with in the first game and fixes it, i didn't get scared and it didn't feel like the same game. It's a great game, and as a Dead Space title i love it and other fans of the series should too, but it just isnt as scary so that might be a downer for some. There is also multiplayer, but getting on today is near impossible on PS3 and even then it feels like an afterthought. Playing as a necromorph is cool, but it can get repeditive fast and sometimes the human side can get too overpowered and playing as a necromorph then is just no fun. As an entire package, just the single player alone is amazing but not as scary, the multiplayer is fun but is hard to find and if you do those playing it will be overpowering. I love Dead Space 2, I just hope they can make the next one more frightening. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's get something clear here. Dead Space 2 is a fantastic game, but it's not scary, and nor was the first game. Both games were tense and innovative, but neither was scary in the slightest. Oh, and the multiplayer isn't interesting. Now that we have my biggest concerns with the game out of the way, let's get on to the good things, shall we? Dead Space 2 is phenomenal. It's an experience that's even grander than the first Dead Space game. Why? Shooting mechanics have improved, sound design has improved (Isaac talks now), the objectives aren't as linear and repetitive, and punching and stomping are generally much easier. I noticed in this installment (perhaps it's just me) that money and ammo come around much easier, ruining some of the survival horror atmosphere. Indeed, the only genuinely hard part of this game was the final chapter. Killing necromorphs is still just as satisfying, and the chapter where you return to the Ishimura is the closest the Dead Space series has come to terrifying me. The storyline flows nicely as well, and it has a much needed and satisfying conclusion. If you buy this game, you are doing yourself a good deed. It's downright good. Expand

I'd have liked to see more new monsters, but as the overall antagonist of the game is largely the same force, I don't hold too much of a grudge. Minor complaints aside, every single thing about the original has been improved (aside from the Marker's monster repertoire, which has inexplicably decreased) and I had a great time playing it. Dead Space 2 continues the story of part 1's main protagonist, Isaac Clarke, who gets, unwittingly and amid confusion, thrown into the events which unfold in this 2nd episode of the series. The game gives you a vast array of weapons to dismember and decapitate the ruthless, bloodthirsty necromorph army. My best advice is to play this game on a large HD screen with the lights turned off, and your PS3 connected to a digital surround sound system or if you don't want to wake up your wife and kids and give them nightmares, then a high quality set of surround earphones. If you don't get even slightly scared with the above set-up, then I'm afraid you are possibly a freak who has become desensitised to violence and horror, and you probably need to have your head checked out by a shrink! lol. The games oozes with tense atmosphere and is complimented by great sound effects. The story takes twists and there are a few "shyte in the pants" moments, depending on how strong your rectal muscles are! Be warned, don't play this game in front of children or the squeamish. I also dabbled into the online multiplayer part of this game but found it underwhelming. I wouldn't recommend it as an alternative to other much more polished online shooting experiences such as Killzone 3 for example. All in all the single player game gets a huge, bloody and quivering thumbs up. the multiplayer needs a lot more work to hold my interest. I'll be getting DS3 when it arrives, for sure. Expand

Dead Space 2 features a number of sequences that are less shoot 'em up and more a little different. Now, there's plenty of shoot 'em up and the new design structure seems about less spawns, most of the time, less ammo, and more intense fights with less enemies. Those enemies that are more swarmy are fully intended to be so; easily killed by the pulse rifle in a few hits. Overall, the game is more intense and better pace than the original, with a smaller body count but a much more fulfilling one. Story is better told and paced, along with thank the lords, the protagonist gaining a personality and soul. Silent Protagonist is a boring, out of place thing on a character with a defined look and name; you can't place yourself in the role anyways, so why make them silent? It's an old throwback. Beyond the digression, some of the new guns are fun editions, and nearly all the new enemies are worthwhile additions. The Rams definitely make for some unique and frightening sequences. I loved the game, enough to give it a twice over. Kinda wish it had a harder difficulty than Zealot you could take your pimped out game completion character onto to keep progressing! Expand

Dead Space 2 was quite a disappointment. It's a linear shooter - go down the hallway, get to the room, shoot the necromorphs, repeat a couple hundred times. The level design couldn't hold a candle to the first game, and the story was nothing but back-story which was slowly revealed to you over the course of the game. None of it had any effect whatsoever on the actual gameplay. It seems that they abandoned the whole action/adventure genre in favor of trying to copy Call of Duty's shooting gallery gameplay. I found it uninteresting, uninvolved, and a very disappointing follow up to one of my favorite games of all time.

So...number two...was the story better, no, were the characters better or deeper, no. Were the floaty bits in space epic, no, in fact they were tedious parts where you carry out engineer activities, avoid flame and enemy fire. what they have essentially done is take all the best bits of the original that happened every now and then and just flooded the game with it. You need to stomp every enemy you come across, after a while it goes from cool to boring, 90% of enemy's are waiting for you, so you are very rarely unprepared so it is less jumpy. The game designers have death scenes for every enemy and due to their hard work they want you too see them all, and you will with instant death always around the corner. Most of the enemys you have seen before, but now they are placed in certain situations to be the most annoying for example you try to run away from a fast enemy hunting you but you can't as issac is very slow so you manage to evade only to be set upon by very small crawling enemys with slow you down upon contact and as you turn the corner you bump into an enemy who explodes upon contact killing you instantly, never did i seem to enjoy myself each corrior was a arse-ache experience, by chapter 5 i was bored, annoyed and wishing the story would pick up, ever did, all in all it was the same game as number one only the best bits were abundant so they became the norm and were not replaced by any decent surprises, its worth checking out but in truth the first was better, if u have not played the first get it as its cheaper and more enjoyable Expand

I actually had some trouble getting into Dead Space 2, but once I got into it I was hooked straight. Areas look nice and story is pretty good. Only real problem I have is during my hardcore play. Which is the absolutely worst time for any of these to happen. I've ran into glitches and bugs where it could potentially ruin your save. I've also fallen through the map a few times as well.I actually had some trouble getting into Dead Space 2, but once I got into it I was hooked straight. Areas look nice and story is pretty good. Simply OUTSTANDING. Visceral and EA took one of the best games of the last few years, fixed everything that was wrong with it, and called it done. One of the must-play games of 2011 to be sure.

This game in 1 word is Awsome, I'm a but fan of Resident evil, and I have to say this game is like RE on steroids. One of the few games I've actually completed 3 times.

I loved Dead Space. Dead Space 2 takes it to another level. Isaac Clarkes Journey through The Sprawl is Thrilling and captivating. To stop, calm down, and use your brain a little would have given the player a moment to think about what the past level has revealed in terms of the story, and what upgrades would be best to choose to really give those necromorphs a hard time. And to suck in the atmosphere for a while, because it really is a detailed, and beatiful space station. MUST BUY! Expand

I really enjoyed playing through Dead Space 2. If you were a fan of the first, I see no reason why you wouldn't like the sequel. Luckily one hit isn't going to kill you unless your health is low. The multiplayer is quite fun as well, especially when you're on the necromorph side. All in all it's a great second outing for a great new franchise. I hope Dead Space 3 is on the horizon. Expand

Rarely does a sequel live up to the hype it is surrounded by, and they barely ever surpass the original. Whether DS2 does the latter is debatable, but it easily lives up to the hype, and matches the original in many key areas. The story first then, is beautifully pitched, giving a perfect mix of action, and pure terror, as you think you have cleared a room, only to turn around to collect the contents of a crate you saw before dispatching of a good number of necromorphs, only too see a raging mutant screaming towards you, arms flailing, looking you rip you a new one, before dismembering it, and stamping on its twitching corpse to a wholly satisfying crunch/gush, as the bones shatter and the blood flows freely onto the floor all around. The Sound is truly noteworthy, whilst we are on that subject, whether it be silence, or the screech of a necromorph bursting out of an air vent, one extreme to the other, it can really have you cursing yourself for the stain now gracing the inside of your underwear. The atmosphere that the music and the lighting can throw up is just so immersive, it draws you right in, then throws a colossal boss at you, that you will surely fail to kill at the first attempt, not because it is hard to kill, because most of the bosses in the game are fairly easy, buy because you will have recoiled so much from the shock that the boss has caused you, that you simply wont be able to get back to the game in time. The single player has the addition of the mini-game style zero gravity, and the return of the hacking of control terminals, which can sometimes provide a very welcome break from the terror of the main gameplay. The one criticism of the single player storyline is that the game can seem quite repetitive. Donâ Expand

What an awsome game Dead space 2 is..Great Graphics, story, gameplay the whole game was amazing.and even the multi-player was fun,the only complaint I have about DS2 is that I had a few problems with multi-player kicking me out of rooms and not finding games alot of the time, besides that DS2 is a great game.

Perhaps the lack of anything new limits the impact of this sequel. The storyline isn't riveting, far from it in fact, but for players who reached the end in the original; you'll want to see what else is going on in the Dead Space universe.

The transition between CGI and gameplay delivers a great horror atmosphere. Isaac Clarke's got personality and we are only missing some bigger bossfights.

With this sequel, Visceral Games has masterfully expanded on the first Dead Space. They've revved up the series with tougher guns, a bigger setting, and online multiplayer, but kept the spirit and, most importantly, the scares of the original in tact.
