This game really doesn't deserve all of the hate it is getting. I'm 99% sure that most of the people hating on this game are just Battlefield fanboys. But it's still the same Call of Duty formula, and it's just a well made, good game. The singleplayer is rubbish, so I won't cover that in this review, I'll just cover the multiplayer. The multiplayer is fun. And is a lot better than the absolutely atrocious game that Call of Duty: Black Ops was. Infinity Ward knows their stuff. This game is quite different in terms of classes and the way you level up now. Now not only do you level up, but so do your weapons. And you unlock different weapon upgrades as you gain weapon levels. I think it's a smart system, and a lot better than the terrible COD points system in Black Ops. Also new is the gun proficiencies. No there is no Warlord perk or some other perks that I forgot about, now they are proficiencies. Instead of warlord you have the attachments proficiency which let's you have two attachments on your weapon. And now there is no equipment section. Not claymores and other detection triggered explosives are under lethal equipment(the same category as frag grenades) and tactical insertion and other things are under tactical equipment. The few improvements that Infinity Ward made are really good, and make the multiplayer a lot of fun. Spec ops has a new mode called survival. But to be honest it's not that great. You can only have two players in it and you can call in a squad of bots which aren't that great. The survival could've been a lot better, but it's a lot more addictive than zombies, because the levelling up adds a new reason to play. You still buy weapons, but you have to be at a certain level to actually be able to buy them. I think it's a great system on an only ok survival mode. The bottom line is that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is no revolution, and it certainly isn't an incredible game. What it is is a fun, polished and well made shooter that will keep your attention for a while. The private matches work fantastically and it's a breeze to invite your friends to one. I don't LOVE MW3, but I certainly do like it. It's not my favourite game, but it's a game that I'll occasionally get out to play. Expand

Generally there is nothing wrong with this game specifically. It is everything anyone could want in a modern day shooter. The problem is not with the success of the game mechanics. The problem is not with the success of the game mechanics. Most users feel ripped off to pay for a game with recycled artwork, dated graphics, and minor tweaks to a game they just bought a year ago for the same price. The Call of Duty series has turned into the Nickelback of the gaming world. Mass producing the same thing over and over again just to fill the shelves with games that pander to the masses. But, we often forget, the masses need some games too, and those people are enjoying this game and the experience that comes with it, and that is what they are paying for. Not for a new game, but for a very similar game with a fresh start for everyone and some new features. All in all, this game goes against artistic integrity and what it means to be creative, but maybe we shall refer to call of duty as a commercial art, just as other games could be considered more of a fine art. The game does not deserve a score of less than 5 at all, but if the scale was based on ONLY other CoD games, then it should score a 2.2. Thank you. Expand

In short. It doesn't measure up to IW MW2. But it's slightly better than Black Ops and WOW. I've always preferred Infinity Wards' 'Feel' of the gunplay more. I would actually score it a point lower than BF3 just because in the couple of hours I've been online and the modes immediately available to me I've only experienced fast & furious gun & run play. I haven't opened a mode or map that would encourage sniper/overwatch classes or stealth having much emphasis. The Elite system is well set up, but currently overwhelmed by demand and rather unresponsive server replies. Expand

I expected this game to be full of excitement and great changes, all im getting is an expansion pack of the failure game mw2. Activation thinks they can sell the same crap but re-branded, and some people don't give a crap because they haven't really played a real shooting game.

I've never played Battlefield 3 or MW2 so I can only compare it to Black Ops. My review pertains only to the multiplayer game:

Pros: 1) better graphics and audio than Black Ops (e.g. environment has more detail and guns don't sound like toys). 2) Killstreaks have more options and are customizable by class. 3) Kill Confirmed is a fun tweak on Team Deathmatch. As for pros, that's about it,

As for pros, that's about it, in my opinion. Cons: 1) equipment and gun attachments/perks must level up (as opposed to purchasing with CoD points), so if you prefer a motion sensor--sorry, no way you're getting it until right before you prestige. 2) Sound quality of players' mics is poor. 3) Server disconnects/times out way more often than Black Ops. 4) I'm signed up for CoD Elite, but have yet actually see what it does because whenever log in, it kicks me out again. 5) Theater mode sucks: there's no first-person view for other players, and as far as I can tell, you can only watch your own games. If you want to watch other good players' games to get tips, you're out of luck.
    6) Many of the maps seem to be thrown together haphazardly and are not interesting.

The gun/equipment leveling up, server problems, and theater mode are the biggest flaws in my opinion. Overall, I'm sure it'll provide plenty of entertainment, but the shortcomings of the multiplayer experience are heavily outweighed by the improvements.

I give this game a 7. Maps overall maybe a little bigger for some of them (some of them are actually pretty good) .. I traded in my worthless Black Ops, so I only paid about $45 for the game. So not out that much overall. Are there things I would like to see in the game? Sure. Part of the issue was obviously Sledgehammer not being used to the IW Engine 4.0 enough to upgrade it to a true 5.0 iteration. So it's basically IW 4.4 Engine (some of the stuff from MW2 is actually directly copied over in the multiplayer campaign which WAS somewhat lazy on their part)

If you like campaigns, it's not bad. Short, but almost all of the shooters are. It felt somewhat less "roller coaster" over Black Ops, but it is still a linear story (obviously)

There are many things I haven't even really used yet, like changing up killstreaks. There are some different ones.

The game is worth playing, but I wouldn't suggest getting CoD Elite, and if you can find it used (which I'm sure after all of the raging there will be used copies popping up) I would go for it. It's definitely not as bad as Black Ops, but it's not as revolutionary as it could be either.

Now that the "comparison" of BF3 to MW3 is out of the way let me get on with my review of MW3. Having played the COD series from the very beginning and feeling the game come into maturity as both IW and 3Arc passed the torch back and forth each year, I have to say that COD4 really set the stage for the modern 1st person shooter and like any great movie the sequels are hard pressed to hold their own against the original. MW3 borrows probably 90% of the textures, sounds, and map objects from the last 2 games. The cliche if it isnt broke dont fix it comes to mind. The multiplayer is where the game still remains at its best - (once you look past how similar to MW2 it really is), You will bgin to notice that the small tweaks that so many wanted from MW2 have been implemented in MW3 - it no longer takes an entire magazine to take down an enemy player on core mode, gun balance has come into line, perks have been adjusted to be less of a hassle so that true player vs player is the focus and finally the maps and layout of each seems to make for a better flow of battling and prevents slow gameplay. The only real problem with this game is that most players are Veterans of the series and were expecting a "NEW" game but were given MW 2.5. The game is still fun and enjoyable and with the added Spec Ops ( modern day live zombies ) and the stackable kill streaks, you wont regret purchasing it as long as you didnt buy the $99 version. For the new players that this is their 1st time playing the Modern Warfare series will find this one of the best games they have ever played and it will be well worth it. The biggest issue this game has to overcome is the purchase prices of $59 when it should be closer to $39 as an upgrade to MW2 Expand

The multiplayer, however, is largely the motivation alot of people, including myself have and will have for buying this game. Comparing it to modern warfare 1 and 2, it is much the same; however, if you've been playing Black Ops for the past year and want a fresh start, this is it. Multiplayer is based much less upon 'who can run around knifing the fastest' and more upon 'how can you best kill the other team?' It's much more fast-paced that MW2 from what I have seen, but is a whole different ballpark to Black Ops; an experience that won't let you run-and-gun and kill everybody just because you have the fastest reflexes.

How do you judge a game? On graphics? The textures, colours, overall feel of the game is much better than, say, blackOps, but I don't think it's anything to be amazed about- at the very least, it does a bit better with framerate. Audio- I'm not sure if this is because of me being a former blackops regular, but the gun sounds seem a bit more... I don't know, iffy? More 'pewpew' than 'BLAMMM'..... I'm not sure how to fully express that.

Single-player- a must ONLY if you really really care about the endings to a mediocre storyline

Multiplayer- only if you care about chasing the majority of the multiplayer community who, whether they reviewed this game well or not, will be playing online and constantly saying 'THIS GAME SUXXX!'. Yes, the 12-year-old prepubescent idiots are there still, as are the cashed-up-bogans.

Overall; Okay, the review is my own opinion of this game. I'm not going to say it's shattt because, like I said, I actually quite like to play. But I can also see how this game has shortcomings of its own. Between this and BF3, I'd play BF3 for the grand experience of a warzone; I'd play Call of Duty to be a one-man-army. Neither game is monumental, and neither should be GOTY. I give this game a 7/10 because, it's not the worst game in the world, it's not the most amazing game in the world, and yeah, I actually DO play this game.

The story once again is madly confusing but still has those epic Call of Duty moments. Really the story goes like this WW3, Makarov and explosions. I think I liked this campaign better than the BF3 one because of those moments even though it is short. I played this on hardened and got through it in about 5 hours so that is sorta disappointing. Graphics wise MW3 doesn't disappoint but still they could have stepped it up after Battlefield. I think that also has to go with the sound grenades are the best example I died most in multiplayer because I could barely hear the grenade. Spec Ops is also back it has missions based around the story and a new survival mode which sees you fighting off waves of enemies and able to call in air support and but ammo, guns and grenades. It's nothing special but it will keep you occupied for a couple of hours. As always the longevity in COD comes from the multiplayer. Here is the downside with this game it is exactly the same 1 new mode some new weapons and exactly the same style. You may as well play MW2 because this just has a new skin attached. The new maps feel like copies also. Overall the MW3 provides a solid single player experience and very old multiplayer experience.
    The Scores
Graphics=7-Modern Warfare 3 looks good but not as good as most current shooters
Sound=6-The sound design sounds exactly like MW2 and that just is not enough
Value=5-There is a good amount of singleplayer but the multiplayer is where the longevity usually is but not this time
Story=7-Great moments but the story like the other games is way to confusing
Gameplay=7-This is a raw barebones shooter with fun gameplay but no depths
Overall=32/50-MW3 is now becoming a dated experience but provides some good fun.

Based on playing spec ops and survival modes co-operatively in split-screen, I can say that Modern Warfare 3 does not fail in this department. Of course, the lack of staffing and time to produce this game has meant that, as with the multiplayer, a lot has been copied over from both CoD4 and MW2. However, the survival mode is something new- kind of a cross between spec ops and zombies. It's very simple but still fun to play, but is not as gripping or addictive as zombies in World at War, for instance. You face attack helicopters, riot shield juggernauts, juggernauts, attack dogs and ordinary soliders. Unlike zombies though, the number of enemies per round does not increase; rather their difficulty and the types of enemies does instead. You can purchase upgrades such as weapons, attachments, perks, killstreaks and even a squad to help you by earning money, and XP ranks you up so you can buy better stuff once you hit the top level 50. You rank up in both spec ops and survival, and as with MW2's split-screen multiplayer, your progression and unlocks are saved in survival/spec ops. The good thing about survival is how you can play them on all multiplayer maps, so it's not like zombies where you have only a few to choose from. Whilst survival makes a genuinely decent addition to co-op, spec ops only manages to copy over missions from the campaign and ideas from both CoD4 and MW2. If you've played them two games, you won't be surprised by anything here. Some missions they've made the copy and paste VERY obvious (like Mile Highjack being a direct copy of Mile High Club). In terms of variety, there is a fair amount. There are a good mix of missions here, not all completely different from each other but an entertaining mix nontheless, with quality being the same as Modern Warfare 2's spec ops missions. The difference is that in MW3 each mission has criteria for high score, which may range from explosion kills, sniper kills, headshots, accuracy time, difficulty etc. What's more, each mission has leaderboards for both co-op and solo, which is nice because it gives them replay value which MW2 lacked. The missions themselves are your usual mix of firing range time trials, bomb defusals, objective collection/extraction, hostage rescue, providing cover for teammate in AC130 or sniping, stealth and just run and gun action. The missions themselves are actually pretty fun in co-op and the variety means that if you're bored of one playstyle you can easily try another mission or have a crack at getting a higher round on survival. Make no mistake, Modern Warfare 3 is by far the best Call of Duty game yet for co-operative gameplay, but I somehow feel that it's below Call of Duty standards. Don't get me wrong, it's just as good as MW2's co-op, but while Modern Warfare 2 pushed and raised the boundaries, Modern Warfare 3 hasn't really done anything new. There's nothing you'll be amazed by at all, and you will frankly laugh at some of their attempts when they blatantly copied and pasted some stuff over such as a building in the CoD4 Pipeline map in one of the spec ops levels. Once you've played the missions a few times though, you will get bored of them easily. However, due to the great variety you may find a few you like, so you could spend hours trying to improve your leaderboard ranking. Personally if it was me, I would much rather spend that time improving high scores in CoD4's arcade mode, as the levels were miles superior to any spec ops mission in MW3. Overall, it's a credible component of Modern Warfare 3 and if you purchased the game for a reasonable price you will not be disappointed. It's a solid co-op, but nothing new or mind-blowing. It's a safe bet for a co-op, but nothing special. Expand

Survival mode is addictive and fun but at times it seems impossible. All though Firefight and Horde mode from the Halo and Gears franchise are still much better survival mode is still a great game mode. The multiplayer is where Modern Warfare 3 shines. But the multiplayer doesn't shine at all. Like all other parts of the game the multiplayer is still "been there, done that". Same guns and same layout nothing new there. This trend continues with Modern Warfare 3, a game that has already broke new records in sales just like its predecessors, yet shows no signs, while playing, that the game is more than a budget title from amateur developers.

The campaign is over quickly. It has some fun moments, but it's so on rails it could be a Kinect game with very little tweaking.

The online is the true disappointment. The netcode performs poorly under the best conditions, and the best conditions occur very rarely. The peer to peer network system, coupled with the poor netcode and matchmaking, make the online multiplayer a game of chance rather than skill. It really just boils down to who has the lag advantage.

It's my opinion that releasing these games yearly isn't terrible in and of itself, but Activision has no appreciation for its fanbase, and they just under deliver over and over again, praying that their over the top marketing will net them the sales they want.

These reviews of 0 are quite ridiculous, but so are the 9 and 10 reviews. The game contains a lot of content for your $60, but not one piece of that content is anything more than mediocre.

Unfortunately a few tweaks here and there, a new gameplay mode, and the same game engine aren't going to cut it. The multiplayer is still fun, but that's not enough anymore. I'm hoping IW is working on a new engine.

To give a score of 0 to this because of the similarity to previous incarnations is childish to say the least. It is MW, if you liked 2 then you'll like this, simple. It is still a great game, easy to pick up and play, the new maps are very much in favour of the running around like a headless chicken variety, so tactically, your options are very limited, but as a way to waste an hour or so with some mindless carnage, it certainly delivers.

    My Gripes:

-The maps are uninspired and too small in comparison to previous installments. Sniping should be pretty much overlooked.

-The control sensitivity is not precise enough. At the lowest setting, I can barely turn my view. Just an adjustment above that and it's extremely sensitive, making it hard to aim. I never had this problem on MW2 or Black Ops. There definately needs to be some fine tuning.

-Running around feels as though I'm skating on ice. Never got this feeling in the older games.

-Character models look too similar. At one point, I'm running around in a map where both my teammates and enemies are wearing grey uniforms that look nearly identical.

The game definitely feels like a poorly done DLC and I'm already wanting to sell it and put the money toward Skyrim. I've been playing CoD for years now and I always found it to be a superior game to Battlefield, until now. Go buy that instead if you want a great multiplayer experience.

This was my forewarning. I should have heeded the advice and listened to my intuition and not get the game new but BF3 beta sucked and cmon its COD. And no I am not a fan boy or a hardcore fan either. I have played all the cod's and I have played them all online Mw2 and Black ops being the most played online. My suggestion would be to just get it used. If u dont have money right now or r freaking out dont sweat it. It's not that great of a game i'll be playing this game mostly for the campaign and ma b some new spec ops missions. In my opinion Mw2 was way better. That game for me gets a 9.5- 10 while this one gets a 6. I can honestly say tho that I wish I didnt get this game new. I also think sledge hammer studios ruined this title. It is similar to the way StarWars kotor 2, Devil may cry 2 and Socom Confrontation was butchered. As I previously stated do yourself a favor and get this used if u can. If not just buy Modern Warfare 2 for half the price. Add me on live I'll b online playing BO's and Mw2 as soon as I beat this campaign =]. Expand

Having a year to make things better, storyline and multiplayer, it doesn't seem like it was upgraded at all. They didn't start from scratch but from a template of the past games and modifying it thinking that people wouldn't notice. It appears to me that the game wasn't given enough effort to be produced. The overall game is alright. The story was fine even though I got pretty bored after a couple missions. May I also mention that even on Veteran, it was easier in this game than in the past Modern Warfares, namely the first one. The multiplayer was crazy in a way that the whole map is like a maze. You move a few steps and there are 4 paths to choose from. The graphics are slightly better but if you are one to compare to another fps that came out recently, it isn't as great. This CoD game was made to make people play and enjoy due to the way the developers decided to make things more even, especially to those that are new to the game and not good at playing it. Overall, the game has not been improved much from its predecessors. The weapons, perks, the kills, the graphics, and even the maps. Really? Maps being reused? Seriously now, at least improve the reused maps. Make it better. Expand

Spec Ops is Modern Warfare 3's strong point. Survival mode is probably the best addition to modern warfare since the franchise started, and while many people say it's "copying" GOW or Zombies, it's still fun! They took a few things from those games and made a fun mode out of it. The missions are what you'd expect, exactly like the modern warfare 2 ones, but they're fun enough to not drag down Survival.

Multiplayer is a failure. Unfortunately it seems that Sledgehammer couldn't develop their own game. They took so many elements from Modern Warfare 2 that it seems that multiplayer is just a bad DLC for MW2. The maps are flat, boring, and encourage sprinting-and-shooting that turned off many gamers from MW2. The guns are well balanced and although Assault Rifles yet again dominate the battlefield, they offer enough variety to be tolerable. Overall, MW3 isn't much to get hyped over, and definitely doesn't deserve it's record-setting performance, but it is a COD game, and no COD is complete without SOME way of stealing hours.

    2) I really like what they have done with the kill streaks. The introduction of the support package is brilliant and makes the game more enjoyable for the average player that can't get a 20 kill streak every game.

    Cons:

    1) The lag is worse than ever. More than any game I have every played, your performance is directly related to your internet connection. This is the biggest letdown of the entire COD series. It's very frustrating hitting an enemy with half a magazine only to have them stop, turn, aim, and shoot with a pistol and kill you with one shot, then have the killcam show you never even fired.

    2) The spawn points are ridiculous. Just like MW2, you constantly spawn in front of an enemy, away from your team, only to get shot immediately. Why can Treyarch get this right and Infinity or Sledgehammer or who ever the heck can't?

    3) Speaking of not getting it right, what is the deal with quick scoping sniper rifles? Treyarch did a decent job of controlling this but the quick scoping idiots are back in full force in MW3. That had to be one of the 3 biggest complaints about MW2 and COD 4 and they still can't fix it? A sniper rifle is supposed to be a sniper rifle, not a close range single shot kill shotgun. Absolutely unacceptable.

    4) Campaign is utterly forgettable. I remember what an intriguing and amazing campaign COD 4 had, but apparently Infinity shot their load with that one installment because the last two Modern Warfare campaigns have been a monumental waste of time.

    5) Spec Ops mode is ok to play through once but there is no replay value what so ever. I found myself playing Black Ops zombies incessently because it was a ton of fun and always interesting. Plus you could play it online with 3 other people which always makes it interesting.

Overall I would give MW3 a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. But multiplayer is the only reason to own this game. Black Ops is cleary the superior game in all regards. Treyarch is now the premier studio under the Activision umbrella.

And as for Battlefield 3, nice try EA. Call of Duty killer? Not even close and not even worth a review.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Being a Call of Duty fan since Activision release Call of Duty: Finest Hour, I can say that Modern Warfare 3 disappointed me. I thought it bring back the glory of Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2, but it didn't pan out that way. For starters, it really irked me that they killed off Soap after he just survived a knife to the chest, I would have rather it have been Price and Soap finishing off Makarov then Price and the useless character Yuri, who dies at the end anyways. The multiplayer is teeter totters between horrible and good, its not unplayable but the game lacks the gun game Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games kept badgering at. The player speed even with extreme conditioning is really slow, I don't even think that any of the previous Call of Duty titles were as slow as this game. Being as slow as it is, the guns can kill you faster than a speeding bullet. I would be fine with the guns being as powerful as they are if it wasn't for the lack of speed where you can't escape the gun fire. The multiplayer maps are by far the worst i have seen in a Call of Duty game, they are claustrophobic and leave little room to maneuver. The one shining light is that the spec ops is impeccable. The missions are pretty varied and fun with a friend and the survival mode is also enjoyable although i don't know why the developers wouldn't have made it four players instead of two. While this game isn't bad, it could have been great, instead you get a game that tries to be what the original Call of Duty 4 was except that it failed by using small and cramped maps and slow movement. The 2 head developers for Infinity Ward left. So you have the 2 key people developing your game and they leave so if you were Activision, what would you do? Do you get a new team (Sledgehammer) and rush to create a brand new game from scratch and HOPEFULLY keep everyone happy? Or, do you go the safe route and try to recreate the greatness from the last game, with a few tweaks here and there to make people at least a little happy? When you have almost 2 hundred million dollars in projected sales on the line and a possible billions invested in future titles, you take the safe route. Now, told start freaking out saying I'm wrong and whatever. I AGREE that the multiplayer is bad. I have had lots of lag issues and overpowering of the hosts and etc. I AGREE Elite (as of right now) is worthless. I AGREE that the campaign is Hollywood blockbuster style. (I havn't touched Spec Ops so I cant judge that) But here is the thing, all and all its not a 0 out of 10. A 0 is ET for NES. The multiplayer will surely have 20 thousand patches like every other Call of Duty and there will always be bugs. But in the end, we can't go back to Black Ops because its probably gonna be hacked to crap soon cause no one is monitoring it anymore. You could go to Battlefield but I hate vehicles. So you have 2 options, enjoy MW3 until White Ops or whatever the next one from Treyarch will be, or till Respawn Studios (The 2 guys who left Infinity Ward) make there new game. Or you can broaden your game interests to other great games like Uncharted 3 and Batman Arkham City for PS3 or Gears 3 and Skyrim for XBOX360. This game is not worth $60 in my opinion, either rent it first to see if you like it or find a used copy.

If you have just started playing call of duty and by this I'm assuming the last and only COD game you've owned and played is Black ops, then you will enjoy this game. A greater balance is achieved between weapons and kill streaks giving players a much more leveled playing field. The game contains "epic" set pieces that will make you feel like you're in a Micheal Bay movie with tons of explosions and bullets flying by.

The singleplayer continues the story of Russia and America fighting a war just because one man tricked the world. You play as a lot of characters, and the story is intense. Characters from Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2 return which will make you smile since they survived. The singleplayer has an incredibly good story and you'll be all over the world fighting the bad guys and the ending will please all fans. The gameplay is also intense and as always, a certain scene has been added which can be viewed as "shocking". It's not as shocking as the nuke in Call of Duty 4, but your jaw will drop. The shooting is great and you won't be bored if you play at the right difficulty.

    Multiplayer
The multiplayer is like Call of Duty 4 but with a few new features added. At first it can be really hard since it doesn't play like Modern Warfare 2. Getting kills is harder and don't expect to get a 20 kill streak as easy as in Modern Warfare 2. It feels like Infinity Ward finally listened to the community and made the game harder. Camping will get you killed and rushing aswell, so you'll have to move and work with your teammates to survive. They also added a new gamemode (kill confirmed) which will keep you bussy. The leveling system is better then ever.

The only thing that really bothered me is the fact that they used gunsounds from Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2. It feels really cheap but it won't bother you for too long. Buy this game if you enjoyed Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty 4.

Anyone who's been actually following the story from the first Modern Warfare game will agree that it was, @ the very least, interesting the way Infinity Ward tied it all together. Well @ least I loved it, more so than the second one anyway. Not much to say about the gameplay, only difference is the addition of "dual sights" allowing the player the use of a more close-range sight like a holographic sight & a longer range option like an ACOG for enemies that are further out on the battlefield. While the game looks pretty good & is very fluid, what in the he'll happened to the sound!?!? It's completely unrealistic & "muted" I hateto be one of "those guys" but Battlefield got it right. I remember the first fire fight because I had my sound turned up to hear the voices & then all of a sudden the **** hit the fan & the gunfire was loud & the bass thumped hard! I'd unload my magazine after I killed te enemy in front of me just to hear/feel the gunfire & enjoy tue experience the only way it can be enjoyed, in a virtual environment. In MW3, you can always hear voices extra loud over really muted gunfire.. Ok enough about that. Multiplayer. It's got it's strengths & weaknesses which basically boil down to your preference in franchises. If you LOVE COD chances are your mind will be closed to what Battlefield has to offer that's fun & engaging. Not to say that MW3 isn't fun in it's own right. Between the perks, fast level-ups & modes of gameplay it's pretty fun. Kill confirmed is an excellent example of this, that is my favorite mode of play, but there are numerous others. Sorry can't speak to what COD Elite has to offer, but from what I've been hearing about it, I think it's kind of funny that people are so upset by EA's decision to make people who buy the game (Battlefield 3) pay $15 to play online. @ least everyone's on the same playing field once they buy in & don't have to contend w/ goofballs who are willing to shell out another $50/yr for maps & added perks/advantages.

Sorry for the less than objective review, but hey this is a public forum & I'm not a professional writer..

It was the same levels over and over you would start off silent and then it would hit the fan and a huge gun battle would ensue. As for for spec ops survival and mission. Survival is probably the best part of mw3 it was a needed addition and probably what made give this game a score of 5 it would have been lower without spec ops. As for the mission portion it was thrown together with hardly any thought, they just threw it in there it is not fun and it takes no teamwork i could run through the levels on my own without my partners help if i wanted to. Now as for the worst part of the game, online. This part is garbage, the maps are horrible besides a couple, every gun is a sniper rifle it seems and any noob can go 1 to 1 in this game. It has no skill and no teamwork, it endorses camping because people want to get there killstreaks and even when someone does get a killstreak it gets shot down seemingly right away which i have no issue with but im sure others due. Infinity ward and sledgehammer wanted to go back to their roots but in no way is this game anything like cod modern warfare. It is a bland adaptation with a few improvements that should have been done in a patch or update to mw2. In my opinion and again it is my opinion this is the worst call of duty game on this generation of consoles. honestly i am already waiting for the next adaptation from treyarch at least they aren't scared of trying new things. All in all if i knew this game would be this bad i would have never bought it but instead rented it and definitely wouldn't have waited for 3 hours in the rain to get it. Expand

Graphics: 8 they are still good but a new engine really needs to be nesscary.
Gameplay: 8.5 the gameplay is probally the best for run and gun type games but more innovation is nesscary.
Multiplayer: 7 although it is fun campers and hackers quickly take that away.
Singleplayer: 7.5 it is solid but feels more of the same scripted action and gameplay.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 isnt a map pack described in the reviews of the haters but isn't a totally new experience either. The engaging formula of CoD its now back and pulished with the fast online matches, the awesome Killstreaks and Perks. But where is the real Weakness in MW3? Its in the Single Player Campaign and its Graphics (That aren't bad, just ... old?). Let me explain the problem with the single player campaign: In the trailers we saw awesome Gun Fights in the Modern World War III and it looked just epic but the problem was that Activision made the customers to expect a Lot from the Campaign but the scenes played on the Trailers, were the best action scenes we saw in the whole Game so, it was a little bit dissapointing. I have to admit that I get a little bit emotional with the death of Soap Mactavish but just that ... Modern Warfare 2 had a better story than its sequel, when we saw Ghost Death we all fell anger and we just wanted to kill Shepherd and in the end of the Washington Level we were anxious to atack Russia ... You understand no? That was a shooter with a Great Plot! The gameplay its ... its more of the same but isn't bad, practically you just Shoot, Run, Cover, Follow, plant C4 and kill some Russian Bad guys but it works its simple and addicting ! What can I say? I really love CoD and my favorite was MW2 followed by Black Ops but after playing this game that wasn't bad but it was dissapointing in a new level of dissapointingness (I was expecting a better final to the story of Soap and Captain Price) but ... meh, the multiplayer its more of the same with different scenarios with 3 or 4 extra perks and Killstreaks OH! and there isn't a lot of hideouts for Campers (AWWW YEAH!). In defense of MW3 as a creative work, Activision and company have been resting on those laurels for the last 4 COD titles. It just took this last one for the majority of consumers to notice. I say "last one" because if you, the consumer, allow this franchise to steal your money again you're crazy. Much like all the reviewers who gave this game anything abouve a 7 out of 10. First off I want to say that the campaign is preatty good although very short and feels like more missions to mw2, (this could be good or bad depending on whether you liked mw2). It is highly cinematic and very intense. The high intensity and the fairly good story is great but the fact that it only took me four and a half hours to complete it is preatty terrible. Now time for the spec ops. The missions in this game are kind of dissapointing to me. Where as in mw2 you had to earn a certain amount of stars to unlock the next set of missions, mw3 allows you to unlock them through levelling up your spec ops rank. This wouldn't be too bad but you unlock all the missions while you are still a fairly low level. The survival mode is better then the missions, however it is still no zombies. In total I spent around 8 hours with the spec ops mode. Now on to the main selling factor... Multiplayer. First off I think it is very impressive how infinity ward included 15-16 maps. The multiplayer in this game is feels very recycled. The main thing in this game that makes it feel fresh is the new strike packages. I also found it fun to level up in this game because there is so much to unlock. However after you have seen all there is to unlock I found I didnt really have much to do any more because just playing for the fun after you have seen the unlock feels highly boring because it feels just like mw2 which I played the heck out of. I have roughly 30 hours on this multiplayer component. My verdict is that if you have owned past call of duty's and played them a lot then you might want to stay out of this one and pick up a more quality release like battlefield 3 uncharted 3 or skyrim. On the other hand if you have never owned a call of duty before now is the perfect chance and this game will give you more enjoyment then past call of duty's. I would give this game around a four or five if you own past cod's and a solid eight if you havn't there fore decideing to give it a six. :D Expand

Some, like Infinity Ward, believe their MP sucess comes from updating the MultiPlayer Scene every year. This is WRONG. In this sense it is the WORST game in the seires. However, This can also be described as the BEST game of the series. The weapon, perk, proficency, and equipment balance seems to have been extremely stressed. The proficiencies have made unpopular or unusuable weapons quite effictive. I also like the new sounds despite the Deagles wimpy sound. The addition of Survival mode has made the co-op section of MW3 compete with Black Ops's Zombies. The SP is decent and will provide a good 4 hours of challenging fun. I felt that CoD4's SP was better, but the last mission of MW3 was a stumper and added a strong closing to the Modern Warfare Series. To me, both quanitity and quality were in mind with this game. New modes, more weapons to tinker with, and will certainly fill your appitite for newness, at least until the DLC comes around. However, I still feel they went overboard on quality and quantity of content (other than maps) and dragged the maps behind. This game is my grandmother stuffing bittersweet chocolate into my mouth. I did however enjoy the CoD4 references such as Kamarov and Cpt. MacMillan making small returns and watching the sniper shot to Zakhaev and Al Asads nuke going off from the other side too. I wasn't a fan of the original spec ops and I'm not too impressed here either. The missions are recylced with different objectives and I personally didn't find it all that fun, even with a friend. Survival mode is a new addition to mirror Nazi Zombies and holds up well. You can choose from any map to play on and have access to air support and an armory. It's fun but why can you only play with one friend? If you could play up to 4 it'd be even better. Now the main part of CoD, the multiplayer. On paper it seems the most balanced CoD yet, there doesn't seem to be any overpowered perks and strike packages add a new twist to let even the worst of the players achieve something. The weapon leveling I approve of too. But the map design is awful, I could find 2 or 3 maps that I really enjoyed to play on. The rest have no flow to them. I'm not the best CoD player nor the worst but even I couldn't find that much fun to be had here. It's still a lot of headless chickens running about with UMPs or ACR's and you're killed almost instantly. Still it's always fun to kill half an hour or so. Overall I'm not impressed with this game. It is the same as before which is both good and bad but the CoD series is getting very boring to me now. If anybody reads this I hope it somewhat helps you. First the multiplayer. My #1 issue is that it's really sensitive to lag. Now, you're probably thinking, "Oh he must have a really bad connection." That's actually true. I live in a university dorm. The internet connection couldn't be more temperamental. But BF3's multiplayer runs mostly lag-free, and when it does lag it cleans up pretty nicely. Not even MW2 or MW lags as bad as MW3. Otherwise, it's pretty good.
Second, the campaign. It's too short (unsurprisingly). While it is action packed and surprisingly fun, it took me less than 5 hours to beat it. Not good. What's more, it can be frustrating sometimes. I'm not going to give away anything, but one level where you have to control an assault drone comes to mind. It can't take much damage or else you're dead. It can get EXTREMELY frustrating because it's all too likely drive right past an enemy without realizing out. Then they take you out from behind and you're left there, scratching your head wondering what happened. Don't even get me started with the helicopter part of it.
Overall, it's a great game. Go ahead and get it. You won't regret it too much.

There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class.
