The gameplay is verry battlefield (if you know what i mean) and has been perfected over the years. The multyplayer is the real star here and gets you attention for months. The singleplayert and c op are also good but it felt like a extra and it was verry short only **** 6 hours. That doesnt matter because you buy this game for MP and it is brilliant. For my part a canidate for goty and one of my favorite games of this year Expand

I'm talking about the hit boxes they're great. The guns not-so overpowered the shotguns maybe -but hey they're shotguns. The Co-op I haven't really gotten into but it could be other peoples cup-of-tea, if you've played spec-ops on MW2 and liked it, then you'll like Co-op in BF3. All in all you should pick up this amazing game at a local retailer or online, its worth more than full priced. Expand

I'll keep this one short. No-one really cares for the longer reviews that waffle on and bore you to death. But one thing that you will be doing a lot in Battlefield 3 is dying. Because the standard of both the AI in singleplayer and the players in multiplayer are hugely superior to that of other franchises. With hundreds of unlocks, vehicles, and the best sound design and graphicsI'll keep this one short. No-one really cares for the longer reviews that waffle on and bore you to death. But one thing that you will be doing a lot in Battlefield 3 is dying. Because the standard of both the AI in singleplayer and the players in multiplayer are hugely superior to that of other franchises. With hundreds of unlocks, vehicles, and the best sound design and graphics available to a PS3 user, I'm struggling to see what can actually be better. Sure, the singleplayer could be longer, but that's the joy of Battlefield. You keep playing and playing and playi - oh wait, I'm waffling...
But one feature of this game I will always admire is just how extensive it is. Singleplayer has left me stunned, and wanting to play more. Co-op is like SP but with friends and randomised events changing both tactics and play-styles. Multiplayer is almost faultless. It will be said that this game will fail. But the only failure I can see, is that more people are obnoxious and buy Call of Duty than other games. But then that's also a good thing - it means those who do make the leap of faith and choose the other game are much more professional, better gamers who use team-work and tactics to win. For me, this game, and the series, will always be the one to buy.

COD is great also, these are two different games. Just depends on what you're looking for, and this is the type of game that I prefer. Actual battles that depend on tactics and team work, just like in real life. Normally I would be ok with this and just play some single player until the bugs have been ironed out but unfortunately the the single player is even worse, buggy and so scripted to the point of it being hilarious in places due to the ridiculous things it insists you have to do. Coming up the stairs in the Night Shift level only for the game to insist that you use a knife to kill an upcoming guard, why becomes obvious as there is a cut scene coming up invoving a struggle with him, you try and do anything else its mission failed! Enemys taking shotguns to the face and nothing happening, bullet proof glass in stair well in one level or car headlights that can't be shot out, so many things wrong with it. More of the same, nothing but FPS garbage. This genre has single handedly destroyed gaming and turned the entire industry into one that favors "safe" shallow gameplay with good graphics instead of games that are actually enjoyable.

The multi player, which i expected to be the highlight, was infinitely worse. The majority of the maps are like bigger call of duty maps, only suitable for close range combat. Guns that should kill quickly, like the sniper rifles and shotgun, are severely underpowered, while handguns and machine guns kill almost immediately. Don't even get me started on scope drift and all of the glitches that should have been fixed before they released the game. If you like call of duty, I'm sure you'll love this game. Same could be said for Bad Company 2. However Battlefield 3 really messes up a lot of areas for me. First the graphics are absolutely terrible on ps3/xbox. If you must buy PC version. Saying that though thats not enough to save this game for me. Dice should have focused on making an engine that looks great all across the board. I mean it looks like utter S***. Second the interface is terrible..terrible.. bad company 2's was much more classier. Finally the balance is so outta whack..one shot and your dead unlike 1943 which lets you use skill to land a number of hits to kill and enemy (unless a head shot). Only saving grace is the layout of the maps, the sound design is once again incredible, and of course the weapons, vehicles, etc are great. Servers are stable. As for single-player why bother with that (resources should have went straight into multiplayer) Overall I expected a more polished engine (graphics in bad company and even 1943 are WAY better) and better balance. I would recommend not buying this and saving the money. Buy if you must when it drops in price. Otherwise hold out till Dice gets their act together and delivers a better game graphically and gameplay wise. Expand

I've been a gamer all my life since NES days and first got into 1st person shooters with PS3's Resistance, not counting N64 Golden Eye, etc. That transitioned into COD4, one of the best shooters of all time. Next came COD World At War which was nowhere as fun. Then followed something a little better, COD6 (MW2), but not quite great due to annoying perks and sub-par maps. Battlefield 1943I've been a gamer all my life since NES days and first got into 1st person shooters with PS3's Resistance, not counting N64 Golden Eye, etc. That transitioned into COD4, one of the best shooters of all time. Next came COD World At War which was nowhere as fun. Then followed something a little better, COD6 (MW2), but not quite great due to annoying perks and sub-par maps. Battlefield 1943 was actually tons of fun and I enjoyed it very much, but I found less and less people online. Black Ops came out and is holding me up until today. Not quite like COD4, but better then its successors. Now comes out MW3 and Battlefield 3. I'm not a killing machine but my K/D ratio is at 2.58. I decided I wanted a game where I didn't have to kill like crazy and use more strategy, more like Battlefield 1943. So I went with BF3. Here are my thoughts ....

BF3: Graphics are great, air/ground vehicles are amazing. I was really pumped. After 2 weeks of playing all maps, and all game modes, I came to the conclusion this game is simply terrible.

    +PROS:

-Graphics amazing -Guns variety, attachments -Choppers, jets, tanks, cars -Map variety, sizes -Cinematic (chopper flying over you and unloading, etc)

    +CONS:

-Strategy. You get in a tank and the guy driving it is a retard. Probably a 5 year old playing it. This normally doesn't happen in the PC version as you need a $2000+ computer to even support this game and not too many parents are going to give their "kid" this to play video games. Way too many little kids playing this that are loners like me. Unless you play with friends, it's useless. Everyone does their own thing.

-Shooting. This is a mess. I swear to you I shot a guy twice with a sniper rifle and he did not go down!! Clearly I made contact because the landing bullet showed a red hit. I can't kill a guy next to me to save my life either. My K/D in every shooter has been between 1.86 - 2.58, not spectacular, but enough to say I'm pretty decent. I try shooting from the hip and aiming down the sights, and it is impossible. I tried several guns, still looked like a NOOB. I try camping, everything. Again, not saying I need a great K/D. I just want to be able to kill the guy I have in sight very close to me when he's not looking at me. Hell, I can have a great time being 5 kills and 8 deaths one game. Battlefield 1943 was awesome. Now that was a real simulator.

-Stabbing. The cinematic stabbing scene is great but seriously, when I stab, I just want a guy to go down and that's that. Not here, no way. A couple of times I tried stabbing a guy from behind while he was sniping and nothing would happen. I was hammering R2 and it looked like my guy had a stuttering movement. Finally after 6 secs, the guy turned around and killed me. Like I said, this happened more than once! Now I can stab a guy prone and it shows all this great action scene where I flip him over and stab him, but who cares? When I stab, I just want to kill the guy and move on! This is super annoying. I'm not saying I want to stab on the fly like COD but still, when the other guy has his back towards me, he should die.

    FINAL THOUGHTS:

You either make this a hardcore simulator all the way, or you don't. It shouldn't take more than around 4 shots to kill a guy. This is a game where you need to get inside a tank to do anything. I don't mind camping but this is ridiculous. You can camp for literally 5 mins waiting for a kill in a great spot, but you either wait longer or get killed. SHOOTING AND MOBILITY IS THE MOST ANNOYING FEATURE ABOUT THIS GAME. It's like spending $60 to watch a movie not play a game. Yes, it looks beautiful but plays like crap. If you want to buy this game, I suggest getting on blu-ray "Blackhawk Down" or "Saving Private Ryan", looks just as great and much cheaper.

What an incredibly bad game. Single player is cliched and quite frankly boring, whereas multiplayer is infested, yes infested, with campers, hackers, boosters, and the lowest forms of gaming life. As for the gameplay the guns are pathetically weak, the graphics trying desperately to hide the ugliness that is the real Battlefield 3. Save your money and buy MW3, Uncharted 3, or Skyrim.

Battlefield 3's multiplayer has got to be one of the most immersive multiplayers yet, and still retains to be noob-friendly while still rewarding the dominant of players.

On a side-note, the single player is completely trash and feels heavily scripted, but on the other hand, the multiplayer makes up for this.

The game also has some co-op missions but they're lamer than the campaign and honestly just feel tacked on. On the PS3, players will notice that DICE has implemented a server browser which makes it all the more easy to select games you want to get into. With the addition of prone, jets, flashlights, melee kill animations and falling debris that can kill you, this game definitely adds new content to the Battlefield series. Rush and Conquest remain as the primary game types which encourage players to forget about personal kill/death ratios and go for the greater good of the team. Seeing your team emerge victorious just seems to be more gratifying than boasting about how you got a ton of kills and only a handful of deaths; that sort of thing is done in another not so unfamiliar FPS game. What many veterans of the franchise may not like is how the game has been injected (or infected, if you will) with a certain style of play not original to Battlefield. An example would be the playstyle on the map Operation Metro. This map is devoid of vehicles, turrets or anti-air guns. What usually occurs is a short skirmish o gunfights that leave the player thinking "Hey, what I've just played through doesn't feel so much like Battlefield is supposed to feel like". I'm not mentioning any other game but I just disliked the fact that BF3 sort of tried to be like other FPS games when it excelled best when it presented it's unique style of the FPS genre. That being said, BF3 boasts its addictive multiplayer experience and should definitely be one of the games you get this year. Maybe even for Christmas. Pros and Cons +Addictive and powerfully engrossing multiplayer +Great graphics on the PS3 +Improved internet connection from BFBC2 +Battlelog which tracks your stats and also your friends' is a welcome addition. Best part is that it's free -Sometimes gameplay tends to imitate other FPS and it does not suit BF3 -Coop seemed unnecessary and a bit uninspired -If you've played a lot of FPS campaigns, BF3's bet seems like a hodge-podge of campaigns, not an entirely unique and new adventure Expand

While Battlefield 3's technical achievements and incredible multiplayer standout, the single player has a weak story and is often slow. The poor menu designs and lobby features don't help the game either. That being said, if you are looking for intense multiplayer action, Battlefield 3 is worth a purchase.

I heard good things about it, but I prefer to try them myself, And Thank God, they were all true: this game is fun! Not flawless, sure, but it's a huge step forward in comparison with Modern warfare 3. I'll mostly talk about the multiplayer because I haven't finished the single player campaign, but with that I mainly ahve one complaint: the story is realistic, ok, but it's too fragmented and it's hard to follow, and it's also a bit repetitive. And I heard it's also short. Anyway, the multiplayer of this game is fantastic: there are various modes which are actualy well made, and the maps fit perfectly the various modes (infact, it's basically the same place, just divived or restricted depending on the type of game). Of course the "main" mode is actually conquest, which you use tanks, cars, choppers and even planes to fight the other faction; then there is rush, which is a capping/defense mode; Team Deathmatch, which basically one faction against the other, and Squad Deathmatch, which is 4 squads against each others. Unfortunely there is no free for all here, and it's a bit of disappointment because, I think, it's a team based game, but yet the classes are...the same. They only differ from weapons and accessories, but not even much of that because some classes can use the same weapons (like the shotgun): they have almost everything identical and none of them has a superior stat or whatever (they have the same health too). Maybe I'm wrong though so take me lightly! Coming back to the Multiplayer, as usual you gain experience and gain both ranks and class levels, as well specific levels for any kind of vehicle you use, encouraging to play more and more a single class and vehicle: the reward is extra perks for your vehicles, weapons and moe accessories for your weapons to attach. I honestly don't like grinding, but this game does one thing right: it really encourages you to try everything. Once you get few unlocks, you hardly change your weapons, because you'll want to discover what more you can use, and I honestly enjoyed unlocking most of them for my weapons...even though some don't really differ a lot, but actually they differ from other internal stats, like the recoil, the speed of shooting, some accesories, range of the bullets: this actually makes you try every gun you have in order to see what fits you most, and it'll make you unlock more attachments (and starts, that shows you how much you've used it). There are perks also for vehicles, as I said, although that can be only done in few modes only, and here I noticed ONE big problem with the vehicle perks: it's HARD! I played for more than a month, but I still didn't manage to unlock the first perk for most of my vehicles, and unfortunely the missiles are the first to unlock: until then, have fun shooting down your enemies with a minigun! Also, in conquest mode the vehicles will be a huge hassle, because they can (of course) be hurt only by rocket launchers, mines, and explosives in general, downgrading the roles of your soldiers, unless they use tanks as well. There's also a co-op mode in which you play 6 different mission with an online companion, and I'll probably suck saying that "they are pretty hard!". However, playing co-op is encouraged because you unlock special weapons that can't be unlocked in the normal multiplayer, and it's not even that much hard. It's time well spent, in other words. Sorry for the wall of texts, but this game is huge and I really gotta say that this game is very, very well made, with very good maps where you can see the cure in details (and the frostbite2 engine shows it), a good "grinding" system that it's not bad and it's at least enjoyable, and (at least to me) a good netcode on the ps3 (infact I barely lagged and I just Dc'd 3 times in total). Only big loss is maybe that you won't be able to play with more than 24 players, making conquest mode a bit....loose, but that actually benefit any other type of gameplay. I really enjoy playing this game so far, and If anyone had a doubt between this and Modern Warfare 3, I'll simply say that "what MW3 does, BF3 does it better". Expand

There is a good mulltiplayer aspect to this game, but some flaws mage the game almos unplayable:

    1) A lot of people (me included) are experiencing an enourmous amount of input lag (some youtube videos measure more than 300ms); 2) Deadzone is too great (you have to move the stick much more than normal to start turning); 3) Aim acceleration is strange, when you move the stick just a little

Join these 3 things and you have a crapshoot, you can only hit stationary target with consistency. If a patch solve these things, it would make the best online experience to date, but for now, stick with BF3 on 360 or PC.

PS.: If you think you don't have the input lag issue, try playing any other FPS game (especially others with 30 fps like BFBC2) for about 30 minutes and then come back to BF3. You won't like the results.

This is a next gen shooter there are things in this game that no one has done before. Tell ya what stuff MW3 and go for this because this is officially the best game ever. Sorry Deus Ex but you have been beaten. The single player story has a real black ops vibe to it but in a fresh modern setting you are Sargent Henry Blackburn a first recon marine that has 'information on a terrorist that the CIA need. You are sent into flashbacks like black ops into modern warfare like settings with big buildings and even deserts in spec ops mission not the best game story ever but is has heart and some twists to keep you engaged. At first you might think the games controls are clunky but then you realize they are really fluid and better than other FPS configs. But I must add that this game really shines in it's engine. Frostbite 2 is the new benchmark for FPS and it's detail is incredible from the sound to the graphics and this is the best looking game I have ever seen everything has detail from the dust and water on your face to the small rocks and pieces of destroyed buildings. Each gun really has their own distinct sound with a hearty kick in them the sounds of explosions in the background to the close up firefights. But the most impressive thing about the engine is the animation finally an FPS where there is such things as hands and feet when you are moving prone you are actually moving. DICE said at the EB Expo that they borrowed the animation and physics from FIFA 12 and it shows. The gunplay is solid and you really have to shoot the enemy hard because they are pretty tough. When you shoot them they grab where they have been hit then crumble to the ground. But the best bit about Battlefield is the freakin fantastic multiplayer. I have to say I suck at this multiplayer. Im getting better but still I love it it brings out strategy and you are fighting not just for xp but because of the feel the glory of getting a headshot or the hilarity of you crashing your helicopter into the sea and killing your squad with you. To unlock gear you have to play that class to unlock attachments and weapon or gadget upgrades for that class this encourages you to use all your classes and unlocking the next bit of gear at the same time unlocking specializations for your character. You can even unlock abilities for vehicles it is really addictive and I can see myself playing this for hours. There is a facebook like service online called battlelog where you can create platoons or if your a pc gamer launch matches. It is really helpful but is still doing matinence so I haven't checked it out fully. There is Co-Op but I haven't tested that either. After all this I don't think you can compare Battlefield and MW3 because they are different games. COD is a fantastic raw shooter but Battlefield go's in depth to the shooter genre so really when someone asks you the question MW3 or Battlefield you say both because they are different games. This game is an excellent multiplayer and singleplayer game that has set a new benchmark for all games this is an undoubtedly 10 out of 10 game it is a must play. Expand

Call of Duty is a fun game and is addicting, but after WaW, they seem perfectly content on putting out the same exact game just with different tweaks, how much more can gamers take before they get fed up with it. If you love online shooters, this game is for you. It has vast maps, hundreds of variations of perks, vehicles, and killing tools. But in this title, it simplifies the formula in a good way and adds Team Deathmatch, which I found was a shocking absence in BF2 especially if you weren't up to a 20 minute match. This title is a beautiful blend of realism which mixes the likes of COD and Tom Clancy titles together. The online is simply.... perfect. However, the story... not so much. Lots of times with these new shooters... they make an amazing online experience but make a lackluster campaign, which has set the bar low. And although BF3's online is amazing and makes up for it, BF3 is just too comfortable just settling for that low bar.... Expand

Gameplay, in campaign you are assigned certain tasks, jet gunner, sniper, tank driver. Always has lots of action to keep you going and entertained. The campaign makes little sense at first but you eventually begin to understand what's going on. The last level really makes up for a lot of the campaign. Co-op(online only), it's difficult to get past the 2nd mission/fire in the sky, due to the incredible difficulty of flying a helicopter. Otherwise okay, but best played with a friend and have a mic each. Now competitive multiplayer, although not as balanced with the pick up and play ease of Team Fortress2, (you will find quick-scoping nigh on impossible), it reminds me of star-wars battlefront a bit due to large maps and style of multiplayer. It is addictive and tricky at first to get started but getting the physical warfare pack for free of ps-store helps with a access to a semi-auto shotgun(dao-12) and a sniper that helps start you off.

The campaign is fairly solid. I mean the story is nonesense (isn't it always with these games?) but that doesn't detract too much from a lot of the good things the games does. For a start it does look stunning. All the PC fanboys will moan that, against their high powered rigs, it doesn't compare but on console there few better looking games (think Crysis 2 calibre). It's all about the lighting; it gives the whole campaign atmosphere and tension and the sheer scale will leave you on occasion just looking round and taking it all in. The missions are varied so there's plenty to keep you guessing and it all seems a little more like you're involved in a military operation (rather than Modern Warfare's one man army scenario). But there are bugs. Some seriously, annoying bugs. First off, the enemy AI is fairly useless. They'll run around on predefined animation sequences and rarely seem to react to what's ACTUALLY happening. Second, they only seem to shoot at you, not your squad. In one level I tested this by hiding out of sight and watching my squad member (who was stood out in the open). Not only did he not get shot (even though bullets were raining down on the wall behind which I was hiding) he didn't fire at the enemy. At all. They also know where you are no matter how covertly you crawl behind cover. In a game that looks so stunning daft things like this stick out very quickly. Alot has also been made about the fact that MW3 runs at a solid 60fps and BF3 (sadly) doesn't. This is particularly obvious when you're watching vehicles - the animation on occasion almost seems stuttered. Personally I didn't enjoy the sniper moments - it felt too arcadey and non responsive. Add to that the fact that some enemies cannot be shot mid way through an animation (eg. climbing a wall, opening a door, exiting a car) and it can really get annoying. But, it is challenging, different and (bugs aside) enjoyable. Multiplayer is excellent. Far fewer bugs (clearly this is a multiplayer game and shouldn't be purchased for the campaign - rent for the single player, essential purchase for multiplayer) and again, the lighting is spectacular. Now, being a MW fan, I'm used to things being accessible and (dare I say it) easy to master. BF3 multiplayer, from the moment you pick it up, is a beast that demands time to master. This isn't a 'I've got 30 minutes while the missus is away, lets bosh on some free for all and rack up 100 kills' experience. This feels more like a 'battle' in comparison to MW's 'fight'. It's on a far grander scale and teases you with so many different opportunities (take a jet, take a chopper, take an APC, etc). I guess that's an achilles heel to a certain degree; as a novice you're thrown in with endless choices against (mostly - at least it was for me) guys that are pretty damn good! It's easy to get intimidated by the fact that the jets are tough to control and the fact that it can take a few minutes of wandering round a vast map before you see someone only to get shot immediately. That's the crux of why MW sells; it's a pick up and play fight to the death. BF is an art that needs to be learnt and, unfortunately, it doesn't teach (a tutorial, a 'me versus bots mode' or even a 'practice zone' for the vehicles - especially the jets - would be great). BF3 is what it is; tough, uncompromising and damn frustrating but the rewards for mastering it are unparalelled. It's just gonna take hours of frustration to get there. CAMPAIGN - 7/10 (good but buggy), MULTIPLAYER - 9/10 (great but tries too hard to be inaccessible). OVERALL - 8/10. Expand

OK!This game is nice.really nice .Not only the story which as cool as a really movie.but also the AI .However there are few disappointment about the cooperation system.
why can't i play with my brother by one PS3?and too much bugs in the story mode.Sometimes it save game after you are killed.than dead and dead again until you restart whole mission.Or you can not move after climb the stair.

I agree with killagoose, I too did a review and said how much of an improvement this game is over Bad Company 2, and I highly recommend it. I don't understand as I notice a lot of the positive reviews are being deleted. Why are the high reviews being taken down and not any of the low ones that are obviously bias towards Call of Duty???????

If I was to judge this game purely on the single player campaign it'd receive a 7....I'll get onto the multi shortly. Graphically it's stunning, and the sound is excellent, we all know this. The AI is weak and while I have no complaints about the game being linear, but the way in which certain battles play out are quite poor and I quickly lost faith in the campaign. I played on hard difficulty in a hope to compensate for the AI. The first couple of missions I was impressed with, until i reached 'Guillotine', which I found very dull, and was disappointed in endless wave after wave of infinite enemies until a certain point on the map had been reached (I'm guessing that this was an issue in earlier levels but didn't experience it)...from that point I lost interest, as I felt each battle after this point I was unsure whether there was a set number of enemies I had to defeat or simply reach a HUD marker to stop the respawining. This kind of game play is really unrewarding and unsatisfying. The story on the whole I think was pretty good, people criticise it...and yeah it's not that original but I mean how to you make a modern fps story original? It's all been done before..but the way DICE deliver the experience is damn good apart from the negative points mentioned above. Tone and atmosphere at times are spot on.

Onto the multiplayer. A straight 9 here! It's got scale, epic battles and the Frostbite 2 engine really shines. I'm a CoD bloke really, but I'm sold on this title. Vehicle combat is great, the classes seem pretty even and all have their uses, there is a counter for pretty much everything, so it doesn't feel unbalanced and no quick scoping! (that I've seen). Definitely worth a purchase. Best game I've played in my opinion since MW2.

And all the people I've seen complaining about the rental not containing multiplayer, don't be such a tight arse and just buy the **** game.

A little background- I never played the earlier Battlefield games, played MW2 a little bit, and sunk over 8 DAYS in Black Ops, so I compare BF3 to COD a lot here. Also, if you are looking for a campaign review, look elsewhere because I haven't played it and probably won't. My first impression of the graphics were 'meh'. In all fairness, I guess all console graphics are underwhelming after coming fresh off of Uncharted 3 though. But the more I played, the more I appreciated BF3....the lighting, the sun in the eyes, smoke, fog, rain, etc are all stellar. I got killed once because I was just standing there in awe admiring the corpse of some poor camper. I'd just blasted the back of his head and the blood was splattered against the rocks he was hiding behind in a level of detail unseen so far on the PS3. Just beautiful. After playing for nearly an hour I was questioning my purchase, but after 4 hours of deathmatch I can safely say the conversion from COD fanboy is complete! If the early reports are true about MW3 not really upping the ante, then 6 months from now this will be the military shooter real players are playing. The housewives and the kids will be left to duke it out on COD through their pink heart shaped reticle. For better or worse, there isn't much customization here. If you want to play dress up with your character like its a freakin Barbie doll I recommend the Uncharted3 experience...kill people with a sweet fedora and then do a dance. I'm not really into that. If you want to enter the closest thing ever to a real warzone then BF3 is the way to go. Once the match begins is where BF3 really shines. The sound is also incredible. If I could rate it 11 in that category I would. Everyone gives EA servers crap, but unlike BlackOps, I didn't get disconnected once, and experienced zero lag. I was worried about 2 things on this game- that there would be too many campers and too many snipers. Unless things change, neither has been an issue for me. In fact, I'd say there is much more of both in Black Ops. Based on what I'd heard about BF2, I was also worried that the maps would be too big and I'd have trouble finding the action. No problem there- I had more action than Ron Jeremy. A couple of times I got shot in the back immediately after spawning. It also spawned me behind a solid enemy position once or twice & I got some cheap kills of my own. 95% of the time though, spawning is a non-issue. Overall, it was a welcome relief to not constantly be shot in the back as happened oh so many times in Black Ops. Knife kills aren't as fluid as BLops, but look cooler. Killcams are also not as good. Much like the useless Uncharted 3 and Resistance 3 killcams, you ID the killer, but it doesn't really help you see where you went wrong or give away the killer's position as well as COD. Another minor gripe is that I couldn't figure out how to easily leave the lobby. I had no reason to, but if there had been a bunch of douchebags blasting their hiphop through the mics it would be nice to quickly back out and join another match. Maybe this option is there and I'm just not familiar enough with the interface yet. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Battlefield 3, while it may look nice on a PC and be groundbreaking graphically on a PC, lacks, incredibly on both the PS3 and 360. The entire game, is lacking.

Battlefield 3 is supposed to support the most realistic graphics of any game out there, bringing a large amount of reality, with the simple physics the game has, to the FPS genre. Well, it doesn't. The game looks no where near as well as it was advertised too. While they may have been showing the PC graphics, no mentions nor footage was made available in any advertising of the let down the consoles had to offer. For being such a hyped part of the games advertisement campaign, I am very upset with both DICE and EA on this one. And this is only the graphical fidelity, I haven't even touched on the many, many in game graphical bugs that are absolutely game breaking. Part of the "realism" is the lighting. Honestly, it is some of the worst lighting I have ever seen in any game. Rather than the enviroment looking as though you are a person seeing everything, it appears that you are in fact just a wet camera lens. Every light in the game gives off a blinding glare. Even flashlights from 600 yards away, in the middle of broad daylight, will blind you as if you are starring into a 5 million candle powered mag light. I won't even go any further with these horrendous problems. For what the game was hyped to be, graphically, it is a gigantic let down filled with a multitude of bugs, at least 10 of which I haven't even spoken of.

Now gameplay for BF3 is split into two areas, a Single player campaign and the online multiplayer. I've played both, and both are terrible. Every single scene from the single player campaign, has been ripped from a call of duty dating back to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. From a terrorist setting of a nuclear weapon, a top down mission from a jet fighter reminiscent of the AC-130 level in CoD-4, ride a lont rail shooting levels like that in World at War, shooting innocent police officers because they get in your way in a crowded public area, Modern Warfare 2, to the entire back drop of the single player campaign where you are being interrogated and are playing through flashbacks, Black Ops, to a destroyed Paris overflowing with nerve gas, Modern Warfare 3. There isn't a Call of Duty, that the single player campaign hasn't stolen from. It really is, pathetic. Just more proof, that BF3 really isn't "above and beyond the call."

Now, multiplayer. Where do we begin? Should I start with tactical flashlights that when mounted on a pistol can blind in broad daylight from 500 yards away or should I start with how if someone is aiming a weapon with a laser sight on it at your feet you are for some reason blinded? Not only are there some terrible implementations like these weapon attachments, but some previous mechanics such as destroying a tank, has been made near impossible without an entire platoon working on it at once. It takes 7 rockets to completely destroy a tank in the multiplayer. Yet only maybe 5 seconds to fully repair a tank to full armor. Some terrible items have been added, such as the Recon classes Recon Drone, which for some reason, you can run over and kill someone with a flying object the size of a basketball. The weapons are completely inbalanced, the bullet drop system only works half the time, the suppression system is just havoc, and once again the EA provided servers are absolutely terrible beyond usage nearly.

Honestly, this game would not even be worth a rent. I feel bad for the person who buys my used copy from the game store after I return this, only to have to purchase an online pass to play this lackluster title and just become frustrated with it.

The game isn't perfect, but MW3 being so poor makes it look so. BF3 needs a training mode otherwise it is madly frustrating getting owned by some 30+ rank dick of a sniper. Couple of the weapons need rebalancing. Couple of the maps are frustrating. Love the size and scale of the maps on Rush mode. Getting your hands on a jet is rare. Too many idiots grab a tank and then waste it by charging into the enemy and getting blown up. The best fps on the market Expand

Multiplayer has no good game modes. Maps are huge without enough players. No lobby between games sucks. The only thing saving this game from a 0 is the vehicles. Jets are sick, choppers are sick, tanks are sick, everything else is wak. This game has the potential to be AMAZING. But its NOT.

Great shooter, true successor to BFBC2, and much better than MW3 (I've played them both). If you want a true challenge and no bull, pick up BF3 and play a real game.

Online play is fluid, realistic, and just fast paced enough to keep your attention without making you have seizures. The graphics are amazing for a console game, on par with some of the best high-end PC graphic card required games. Personas don't look like cartoons anymore. The leveling system is a huge leap forward from the Bad Company 2. Highly recommend this one.

Amazingly realistic graphics, intense gameplay, and a incredibly fun team focused online multiplayer. What more could you ask for from a first person shooter.

Hopefully EA reconsiders its approach to toppling Call Of Duty in the future, and allows its games to develop their own personality, rather than imitate something else.

Despite its incredible competitive online play, we can't ignore the shortcomings of its campaign and Co-Op. [Jan 2012, p.66]

The nine multiplayer maps seem to be designed specifically to let players come up with their own creative strategies. Compared to COD, this gives the player a real sense of freedom. There is no such thing as a perfect strategy or a trotten path. [December 2011, p.74]
