Battlefield could be, by far, the best FPS I played IF DICE/EA gave us everything they promissed. Come on? 4 months and we still can't play with our friends.. we setup a SQUAD before the match, get into a game only to find that half of our squad is on the other TEAM. I would even try to understand if this kind of thing happened by using the "Server Browser" because they just tell you how many vacant spots a certain server have but never tell you if they are on the same team but using the QUICK MATCH this is unacceptable. Not to mention the random "Bad Luck" kills. Also, the PS3 had a plus over the Xbox version: A damn input lag... come on, this worked just fine on the beta, how can it not work now?

Not asking for much... don't care about OP or weak weapons and all. I just wanna play with my friends... think you could do it? Battlefield:BC2 had this right. How can you screw up on this one?

Battlefield 3 is the ultimate tactical first person shooter, but it isn't free from numerous issues. There is no way to exit a game in between matches, there is no way to mute people, and the VOIP is really spotty (supposed to be fixed the latest patch). The single player campaign is also uninspired and feels like it was influenced by Black Ops's story. I give this game a 9 for 1 reason.Battlefield 3 is the ultimate tactical first person shooter, but it isn't free from numerous issues. The single player campaign is also uninspired and feels like it was influenced by Black Ops's story. I give this game a 9 for 1 reason. Its amazing multiplayer. The maps are numerous and absolutely huge. Most of the maps have a layout that works well for all play styles with a couple of exceptions. Operation Metro on conquest isn't balanced. The team that spawns outside of the metro almost always wins. The team that spawns in the metro gets stuck at multiple choke points where the only option is to bumrush up stairs and escalators and hope that they can get a foothold. Anyway, there are a TON of weapons and a TON of attachments. The kit customization is ridiculously awesome. The vehicles in the control well, and the helicopter and the jets take some training to fly but the payoff is worth it. I'll conclude this review with my most important point. I'm a huge PS3 fanboy and I love consoles. But if you have a computer that can handle this game, GET IT FOR PC! The game runs pretty slow and the graphics don't look that great on PS3; the graphics look even worse if you play on 360 and don't do the install. BUY THE PC VERSION IF YOUR COMPUTER CAN HANDLE IT! Step to the left and you die, step to the right and you live. No real reason behind it. You just make a mental note for the next try. Got a real thinking person's game here - not. Blah, blah, blah. One of Battlefields most impressive features is the sound effects within the games of the guns as well as incoming bullets and vehicles. The graphics are far superior to any shooter out there today and while the COD fans can **** and say its better, there mistaken. The online experience is by far Battlefields best feature with the intense game modes such as rush and conquest making returns. It is a real mans game while COD seems to be for the little kids. Battlefield had some trash talking going on with the Infinity Ward studio and Activision before the release of the two games and while Battlefield backed it up, Call of Duty stumbled. While there are some complaints in the game, such as the weak 4 hour campaign, and trouble connecting with friends sometimes on the EA dedicated servers. The games pros far exceed the cons and it is what i believe to be the BEST first person shooter out on the market. Battlefield 3 is EAs marketing giant offering the revolutionary Frostbite 2 engine. It takes place during a WMD crisis where are plot to attack New York and Paris is discovered. However the campaign is shadowed by the giant that is the Battlefield multiplayer.

    Story: 7/10
Battlefield 3's campaign is completely independent to prior games in the series, so you do not need to be a Battlefield veteran to get into it. The campaign is truly beautiful and shows how horrific war can be without taking away from the gameplay. However the story is a cliche of WMDs, terrorists and Russians making it difficult to stand out next to other modern shooters.
The characters are nothing special or particularly likeable but they seem like real people which only adds to the amazing war experience that Battlefield 3 has to offer. Gameplay: 8/10
The gameplay is similar but more refined that the Bad Company series which a stronger emphasis on vehicle warfare than ever before. However this concentration on vehicles puts infantry at a strong disadvantage on larger multiplayer maps where Apache helicopters can decimate spawn areas very easily. However the addition of Jets are breathtaking and can be used to support ground units or for intense dogfights with other fighters. Finally the improvements to character movements look brilliant but can put players at a disadvantage when climbing over walls etc.

    Graphics & Sound: 10/10
The graphics and sound perfect particularly on the PC version or with a headset. However the console versions are still unbelieveable. As I mentioned earlier the improvements to character movements look brilliant but should have been focused in the campaign rather than multiplayer. The destruction element to the Frostbite engine has been toned down in multiplayer but allows for stunning cinematic moments.

    Extras & Multiplayer: 8/10
DICE's true calling is the Battlefield 3 multiplayer experience which is better and more refined that it has ever been. The balance between epic vehicle battles and close quarters gun fights is a nice change of base to other multiplayer games such as Call Of Duty. Battlefield has always been a team focused game and Battlefield 3 is no exception, this game is very rewarding to players paying in a cooperatively and assisting fellow team members. You can still play Battlefield 3 as a lone wolf player but your team will suffer because of it and you will not find the game as rewarding as you would when playing with a group of friends. The leveling of weapons and attachments are very well done and with the addition of new guns in dlc packs can only improve the game. The only problem with the multiplayer in this game is the balance issues, players can severly decimate opponents by rushing with shotguns with explosive rounds, charging points with vehicles or picking off opponents with sniper rifles from across the map.

    Enjoyment: 7/10
The enjoyment of this game is unfortunetly were this game suffers as will other games like Crysis and Killzone there is too much concentration on graphics rather than making the game fun to play which alot of games dont think about. However when playing with group of friends online this game can be very fun and you will keep coming back for more but when playing alone it will just seem like a well presented shooter.

Anyone who was dissapointed by Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer should and most likely will have bought this game as a substitute. Though the co-op is much shorter, less varied and lacking in leaderboards (not to mention that you can't play it on your own or even on splitscreen); the multiplayer is what most people are interested in - it's a Battlefield game after all. As a CoD substitute, Battlefield 3 is a pleasant change due to the different classes, attachments which have a point and the wide variety of map/mode combination to accomodate for different playstyles. Everything from Noshahr Canals TDM to Caspian Border CQ, whether you want infantry-only CoD style games, infantry objective like on Operation Metro, ground vehicles only like in Grand Bazaar and Seine Crossing or all out vehicle maps with jets and large landscapes, this game can give you it. The progression, ranking and unlocks is far superior to Call of Duty's and this is a much more satisfying game to play too. Given how every button on the controller is used (infact there's not enough room for some things such as squad commands and mini-map zoom) it would be easy to expect the controls to be clunky and unresponsive as on Bad Company. In reality, this game has the smoothest controls for any console FPS, with a wide range of sensitivity options and a button layout which may not be ideal but the best compromise for a controller and could not be improved in any way to make it more ergonomically comfortable to use. The only criticisms which can be directed to the console version of this game are almost entirely from a technical persepctive. The 24 player limit means larger maps are much less fun and not as much action as you'd like, making TDM more viable or at least smaller, city maps for conquest and rush modes. Field of View is far too low on smaller maps, making it difficult to see enemies right next to you. The graphics, though they still demolish MW3's IW 5.0 (which is pretty much the same as MW2's) are not as spectacular as the PC version, though this is not the game's fault and more the lazy duopoly of the hardcore console market who still haven't updated their console's hardware. Remarkably though, Battlefield 3 still is a great looking game and very much playable at 30 FPS even on the lowest possible settings and 1280x704 resolution, whereas on PC anything below 40 FPS seems unplayable. One of the biggest advantages of Battlefield 3 (aside from the fact that it takes skill, has no killstreaks and actually has recoil and suppression and tactics involved) is that it has dedicated servers, and console players are able to rent their own servers. The result is completely lag-free multiplayer - something which Call of Duty has been lacking since, well, ever. Joining a friend is quick and easy, and battlelog integration is seemless both online, on console and bf3stats.com. I would highly recommend this game to anyone who likes less arcade-style and more realistic shooters. However, if you want the ultimate Battlefield 3 experience get a PC that can run the game on High and play on 32+ player servers. Expand

Yes, its not 64 players, but you know what? Its one hell of a fun game in multiplayer. Heres some positives: I'm actually very surprised they included the option to browse servers which is very convenient. The sound? DICE is spectacular in their design and how much it immerses you in the entire experience. Graphics? Very detailed and well done. I love how the vehicles catch fire and explode, the walls crumble after being hit with and RPG, sunlight blooms and rain glistens when caught at different angles. I could go on and on but attention to detail is what is so awesome in the visual presentation. I enjoy the fact that you can be such a force in this game when you help your team. It makes the experience so satisfying when you revive someone, or fix your buddies tank after it gets hit, or be a gunner for a humvee driver. Teamwork is essential to success. Now some negatives: The Campaign is not bad by any means, but I just wish there would have been more freedom in the way you were able to tackle each level. The level of scale is great, but is hampered by the fact that the player is so restricted in where they can go and how to approach each mission. Co-op is fun, but can only be played online and I was surprised that only a few levels were available to play, but it is enjoyable. In Multiplayer I have minor compaints, such as inconsistant communication with my teammates. My voice as well as theirs would break up badly to the point where it was pointless to even try to talk to one another. I wish you could exit a match at anytime as well instead of having to wait for a match to start. All in all this is a fantastic game, and of course the Multiplayer is the star. If you enjoy intense, tactical gunplay and fantastic presentation. Buy this game. Expand

At first I was afraid the way of controlling the game was a bit too different from the norm but the more I played it the more I started to love it. I don't have people lunging at me with knives and getting 1 hit kills. Killing with a knife actually takes some form of skill. The sounds are awesome! The sound of the explosions and gunfire really helped seal it for me. I gave it a 7 because of the Single Player. If they separated the SP and MP it would have been a 9. My only real complaint here is the quality teamplay capabilities, I have only been able to form parties of up to 4 (I believe this is intentional) which is much smaller than I would like in addition to this our group was often split up apon joining matches often onto opposing teams. The quality of voice communication also leaves some to be desired it is often difficult to understand squadmate and you can only communicate with your squad. For this I must dock battlefield points. Graphics - Amazing! Not that I really care about it. Not much to say here, but the lighting is good at some moments and bad at others. Not a big deal though. 100/100(A+)

Gameplay - AI is good, but all of them look exactly the same and shooting certain weapons and flying jets are very difficuly, but that makes it more realistic. Framerate is only 30 frames per second for consoles instead of 60 Frames Per Second. 60 FPS would make the game run a lot smoother and more intense. 65/100(D+)

Multiplayer - OK, but too team oriented. I hate being in squads, especially when the squad is terrible. All guns have 3 round burst as an option for some reason. I hate that there are vehicles online because I would hate to get killed by someone flying over me instead of doing it face to face. A lot of campers no matter what these fanboys say. You need an online pass, so you can't let a friend try out the multiplayer and take it to a friend's house and play it there unless you bring your game system with you or redownload the pass at thier house. Maps are too huge and spawning makes it worse. It's fun to play sometimes, but I have to be in a really good mood. 75/100(C+)

Playing Time/Content - My playing time with this game won't be much and hasn't been much. Now that I have Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3....I may never play it much again. Content includes a single player campaign and multiplayer. Nothing special. 30/100(F)

The downsize, and the fact I did not give it a perfect score is that, DICE is constantly patching the game with dozens of changes in weapons, vehicles and so, after spending a lot of time learning and feeling comfortable with a weapon and excelling the vehicles, the next month, all changes and you have to find another weapon to feel the most comfortable with. Though, some people seem happy the game keeps the balance.////////////////////////////

Battlefield 3 gives an unique experience to console gamers. The graphics are nice, but it's not such a big leap if you compare it to Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Sometimes I miss the big destructions in the single player and the use of vehicles. The story is fairly good (maybe the best one in the Battlefield-franchise). c) When you can play with your friends, you can't communicate with them, because comms do not work in this game. Even if they did, one of your squad is always on the other team, so you couldn't.
    d) There may not be as many "noobs" playing this game, but there sure are a lot of players who seem to be very experienced in the subtle art of laying on ones stomach, thrusting gently against the ground, and making full use of point a) with a large scope on their gun.

    Conclusion:
The game has potential. If they fix the in-game communications, the squad and team issues, somehow improve the visibility of enemies, and remove the bugs which plague the game's campaign mode, then it might actually be enjoyable. Until then, it's frustrating and incomplete, and far from the masterpiece that one-eyed fans of the series have touted it as. Starting with 10, 2 points off for not being able to see who's shooting you, 2 points off for the bugs and freezing, 1 point off for the communications issues, and 1 point off for the squad/team issues. 4/10.

When you fire a real gun you should be able ADS and follow your target and I find this really difficult. If I turn the sensitivity up my character turns too fast and makes it hard for me to move... 5) Where is the remote control chopper from BC2? 6) The game lacks direction, especially in the bigger multiplayer maps... a good example is that I'm 9 hours in and have yet to find/fly a jet. 7) Quickmatch takes like 6 tries to find a game and the load/death timers seem a tad too long. 8) You know the games in trouble when the reload animation works about 66% of the time... The single player is offensively horrible and a flagship example of EA's lack of understanding for narrative. But when it comes to Battlefield it's not about the narrative--it's about the online multiplayer and its amazing!

Battlefield 3's story campaign and multiplayer are two completely different games. They have the same graphic engines, controls, weaponry, and even locations--but they are nothing alike in terms of concept and enjoyment. EA/Dice attempt a low-key narrative about a soldier that uh...sits in a room and talks about past experiences that have marginally anything to do with a terrorist plot 8 hours from execution in New York City. This soldier informs his "keepers" that a man named Solomon is behind the attack. They aggressively...because aggression means drama right?...interrogate the solider about where he first heard of Solomon. We then flash back to the first real level--the vary familiar earth quake level from early demonstrations. Here, we undergo sniper scenarios, fend off an onslaught of stupid yet deadeye bad guys and deal with an IED. Not one time is the name Solomon mentioned.

If you decide to play through the campaign (I did for the trophies) then accept that the narrative just isn't there. The most important details and most exciting level is actually at the end of the game. Up until then--it's basically a series of tasks that lead to cheap deaths and aggravation. I almost broke my controller in-half more than once. Because Dice thinks good lighting means glares and lens dust don't expect to have the easiest time spotting black-clothed enemies from black backgrounds. My tactic was to stand in the open waiting to be shot so I could trace muzzle flashes to enemy locations. Your AI buddies will take the best shooting locations and then fail to do much damage. And if you take the cover assigned to them, they'll push you out of the way. Now, sharp shooting enemies that don't need to raise their guns to get head shots is one thing--but the fact that you can't trust the game to direct you to your next goal safely is unacceptable. Most the game is spent following a specific soldier. An Icon will appear over their head and you must walk within a few feet in order for the game to progress. This is quite annoying when the soldier is standing in an open field behind no cover and every attempt to reach him leads to another death. Sometimes they're on the other side of a battlefield and every enemy you kill is immediately replaced, making it near impossible to get across without dying. What's worse--the game will ask you to do illogical tasks. In the first full level, you're asked to go up on a bridge that provides no cover and man a light machine gun while all 20 bad guys shoot at you. I died 10 times in a row without even reaching the gun. Finally, I crawled to the gun but accidentally hit reload. By the time I had finished reloading, the commander was already sounding retreat... One mission has you escaping to a plane...but the game won't allow you on until your teammates have boarded first. I didn't realize this till I was blocked from boarding by an invisible wall and shot to death. On my next try--I simply laid down behind some bushes until they called for me to board. It was an absolute miserable experience.

Yet with all these miserable attempts to make exciting scenarios no moment in the single player campaign, was any where as exciting as the many memorable events of online play. I was once involved in a five minute firefight in an alleyway. Our team needed to capture the alley to allow for flanking positions on an MCOM station and the other team obviously needed that not to happen. Rockets flew over head, grenades were thrown back and forth, soldiers were dying and being revived left and right--it was amazingly intense and despite coming out on the losing end, I had more fun in those five minutes than in the entire single player campaign. Makes me wonder why they even bothered. Battlefield 3's online experience is awesome and a great update from Bad Company 2. The graphics are neater (even with PS3 doesn't get the full glory of the PC version) and the gameplay is smoother. The levels are great and allow for a wide variety of strategy and challenge. There's no room for heroes or loners--you need to work together to succeed; communication is key. This is a game for those looking to use tactic and cooperation to win. There's plenty of points to be earned without killing a single enemy (mine mostly come from heals, revives, and base captures.) Of course, that doesn't mean you won't find yourself kicking a little extra ass from one game to the next. If you're looking for a chance to just kill-kill-kill--you may want to look elsewhere. But if you're looking for an in-depth battlefield experience--here it is as the name implies--and it does not disappoint.

The FPS genre is dying because of games like this. These days, you're given a choice of picking your poison instead of picking what's actually a good game. So once more, I find myself going back to Counter-Strike.

It's basically another series of spawn, then die. I find myself sneaking around, trying to be careful and checking my corners, (as in, NOT playing this game like Call of Duty, as some fanboys will no doubt tell me not to) only to get sniped from someone on another continent. When I'm not getting sniped, I'm getting blinded by taclights used by idiots who think they're being funny by keeping me blinded for five seconds just to piss me off. That, or I'm getting killed by vehicle hogs after burning through three rockets trying to kill them. I have to suicide just to switch to the class with the rocket launcher, because I either have no teammates with rocket launchers, no teammates who can be bothered to take care of it, or no teammates nearby, period. It's like I get a hundred deaths for every one kill I get. The only consolation is that I got to sell it to someone else for the price I bought it at. I hated this game so much I wouldn't accept what GameStop would've offered me for it.

I'm really, REALLY surprised that anyone likes this game. It's like some people will just fanboy a series all the way to the end, go all the way to it, and will never, ever admit that a game has flaws. Not that MW3 doesn't (believe me, I know it does), but this game has even more flaws.

Furthermore, EA insists that a used copy constitutes buying a new online pass to access multiplayer. Their official statement was along the lines of "it hurts us when you buy a used game, and that's why we're doing this".

Here's the deal, EA: Your cash cow is officially broken. Make a game that isn't a steaming pile of crap, and you won't have to deal with that. I'll be more than happy to buy a new copy. Considering how awful your track record has become in the last five or so years, good luck with that. o_o

Some of the maps are set up with choke points where you end up in a large group Mexican Standoff lobbing grenades at each other. Boring.

Some of the Bad Company 2 flaws still exist. Since when can a shotgun kill a human in body armor from 50 yards away? Lame. Getting fragged the moment you spawn somewhere? Check. (This didn't seem to be a problem in BC 2). And how is it you can be blinded by a flashlight *in broad daylight*??? Seriously? Aiming seems terribly twitchy as well.

Graphically the game may be more detailed than Bad Company 2, but it's taken on a decidedly more cartoonish appearance with artificially-saturated color and soldier character models that somehow look and move less realistically than in Bad Company 2.

Most annoying of all is the inability to kill the voiceover sound. This option was available in Bad Company 2, but not in BF3. Yeah, I want to listen to voiceover actors screaming about getting "f**ked in the a**" (true quote from the game) constantly. Thanks DICE, thanks a lot.

I'll be selling this game the first chance I get. What a disappointment. I was hoping DICE would stick with the "Not Modern Warfare" model, but instead they've followed that juvenile game's lead and catered to that game's typical buyer.

This means that sometimes entire teams leave right as a battle starts, leaving you alone to defend until new people join. Also the leveling system is weird, and only allows one pre-set per class, so there is no way to build different presets for different situations.

Overall, it is a decent game, but it is really hard to get into and enjoy as much as previous games in the franchise and genre.

Well let me start with multi-player (where Battlefield 3 shines): The maps are huge and varied with decent graphics and frame-rate. Unlike COD you can play with little experience of on-line play. Granted you will die numerous times and not kill too many yourself BUT with COD you do get 'owned'. The points system and levelling and numerous types of multiplayer is great, along with vehicles. I generally don't enjoy multiplayer FPS but this I love.

Single player however overall is terrible in my opinion. This is not related to story, that is pretty decent, or graphics, they are cool. It is due to general playability. Firstly I have the enemy within my guns sights (very clearly too I may add) and I shoot but nothing!!! This has happened numerous times. Secondly the enemy can be so far away and dead accurate that you can barely see them and they kill you in no time. This is fine occasionally but it has been this way through most of the campaign. I am sorry but these issues especially, the aiming one, ruined these game for me. BF:BC2 single player was better along with COD MW1 & 2.

Overall it is a bit Jekyll and Hyde but due to being a (mainly) single player gamer I will have to give this a 6.

You can actually have your back to a wall and go prone, unlike Call Of Duty which will not allow you to do so because there would not be any room for legs, Battlefield3 does and your legs are basically fused into the wall with half you body sticking out, campers delight, the vehicles are not as spectacular as the commercial and "supposed unbiased" reviewers, showed and claimed they were to be, the jet fighter travel at an unbelievable slow speed, its not hard to get a target lock, but hey they have more counter measures than than a single engineer has missiles. the way they fly also looks very abnormal and is far from fluid. Bolt action sniper rifles in the game are so unrealistic, no sniper would ever take his eye off his sights to pull back the bolt, you cant switch rooms during game intermissions, you have to quit back to the main menu, and you can only customize your load outs during the middle of a match, spawn points are done terribly, spawn camping is the worst I've seen since Socom 3 no type of spawn protection at all. Now finally aside from some lag, the occasional error connection message when trying to get into multiplayer, lack of game modes, including a hardcore mode, whats good about the game you say, well ill tell you, i really like how this game uses bi-pods, unlike in COD where its only for show, Battlefield implements them to, my enjoyment, very well. i also like the variety of weapons and equipment for each kit, but its still no "create a class" like COD, that's about it this game does not live up to all the Hype, i wonder how much EA payed for those clearly bias reviews, this is why you cant trust certain media outlets, with all its problems its far from perfect. Being halfway through the campaign I found myself regretting what I had just done. I regretted buying this boring game. I am sorry but Battlefield 3 is by far one of the most boring first person shooters I have ever touched. The voice acting is not even sub par it's terrible. Nothing sounded real, there was too much cursing it sounded like whoever wrote everything was some foul mouthed teenager. The graphics are incredible but behind those beautiful graphics is one of the most generic shooters, I think ever. Theres a hell of a lot of bugs too. Did I mention that? I found myself getting blinded by street lights that would not go away unless I restarted my playstation 3, getting stuck on walls and going through walls are some of the many bugs I had. I eventually finished the campaign after hours of experiencing the magical repetitiveness so then I decided to give the multiplayer a try. It was incredibly fun at first, which is the reason why this game is getting a 2 from me. Team deathmatch is fun and has a few similarities to what call of duty has to offer but here is what I didn't like, it takes too long to unlock stuff - in these kind of games I like trying out new guns and it felt like it took forever to start unlocking guns that weren't worthless.. Playing maps with vehicles is incredibly boring even playing with friends I found myself being flat out bored driving around in tanks or helicopters. I don't care about people saying things about teamwork - when I play games I want to have fun. I would not recommend this game to anyone who is expecting a game with an epic campaign. The multiplayer is fun for a few weeks but eventually becomes repetitive with slow paced gameplay and slow unlocks. In closing don't be fooled at the videos people post on the internet of this game. It's more boring then it looks. I'm not sure where people got off calling this game more tactical then CoD but when I think of a tactical shooter I think of Rainbow Six not battlefield. Not to stir the MW3 vs BF3 pot any further, but I would take another rehashed Call of Duty over this turd. Expand

The graphics on the PS3 are much more impressive than I was expecting, the Frostbite 2 engine easily lives up to the pre-launch hype. Thank You EA for raising the bar for future FPS games. Battlefield 3 will be talked about for a long time. Map design, from both the advance of Rush mode to placement of vehicle opportunities, lacks the freedom of previous games, and there seems to be a very prominent problem with field of view and accuracy. I stopped buying MW after the mess that MW2 had become. infinity just rewraps the same bullsh*t add a fresh coat of paint and shoves it at you an call it innovation. When BC2 came out it was like no other game. You could do and destroy anything!! You think you're gonna camp here for the whole game? WRONG, there's no wall behind you! Drive tanks, fly ATTACK helicopters, 4 wheelers, UAVs and turrents! You name it BC2 provided and then. BF3 was announced and we got word of all the wonders that would befall us in this game. And show the COD franchise how real developers and networks stand by their fanbase. I refer to all this is to emphasize how utterly disappointed I am in BF3. I realized from Beta that this is NOT the BF I knew and loved. This felt cheap. And EA chose the absolute worst map to allure players from COD as it was not displaying BF's to its truest. We all know of the annoying network outages and glitches that happened in the beta stage and EA assured us that what we were playing was not the final product so I shrugged it off. Now that the final game was released I hoped it would be the same as BF2, IT IS NOT. Those users saying the game play is the same WRONG. The game play is no where near as smooth as BF2 and that game could have been smoother. This game is a pretty mess. I will only be referring to Multilayer as Campaign got me so angry I had to take 2 xanax (I think I've made my point here). From a simple thing as the inability to walk over a tiny object on the ground to the daunting task of getting out of a room, this game has become what I hoped it wouldn't... COD with vehicles. EA if you cant do something right, dont bother doing it at all. How is it that you can shoot a person square dead in the head emptying TWO clips one from you main and the secondary after switching to you side arm and your opponent will have enough time to stop. turn. shoot you once and you are dead.? EA can you PLEASE explain this cause I am stumped. I have had folks massacre me on 0%. 0%!!!!! I was killed by a ghost y'all!!!! Why can't I cook a grenade?? Why is player mute either you mute the entire squad or none so if I have a team member that is actually benefiting to the team and a kid screaming at his mommy I have to deal with all of that or mute them all? HOW do I end up in an entirely different class when a new game starts? WHY the **** does it take to goddamn long to get up from prone!!??? WHY all the theatrics to knife someone??!!! You have to ensure NO ONE is around you if you're knifing someone cause the length of time it takes to do that crap will get you shot! I have to wonder if EA just focused all their energy into just making the game look pretty and sounding fantastic and just left out the heart of the game. Cause that is what I got from the store. So thanks EA, thanks for ruining a great game! And replacing it with cheap, marketing MESS! Xoxo!â Expand

This game is completely broken on PS3. It is plaited by controller input lag, and severely broken mics.
The input lag makes aiming a pain, and the broken VoIP system makes communication with your team nearly impossible .

But the online multiplayer blows all other FPS military sims out of the water. Multiplayer maps are varied enough to keep both the run and gunner and the sniping camper entertained for months. Couple this with interesting game modes not found in other mil-FPS's and you have a recipe for game longevity that will make the $60 price tag seem like a bargain.

For those not sure if they will like this, if you've enjoyed any of these games -Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare, Battlefield 2, Bad Company 2, Red Orchestra, and GTA:IV - I really feel that BF3 has taken it to another level. I bring GTA:IV into the equation as BF3 has so much mayhem and depth for all of the vehicles presented plus you get a sense of freedom from the large scale.

I think some of the complaints have merit (ie. some graphics issues, overly bright flashlights, ho-hum single player) and I think DICE could address some of these. But when you look at the full scope of the multiplayer it doesn't take away from what there is. I was actually quite surprised that they were able to get the PS3 to pull this off. The bad size is, lack of resolution, lower textures, nowhere near as realistic lighting effects (but still good), no anti-aliasing. I know the PC Version must be incredible, but the game mechanics are intact on the console. The animation look identical and some of the modelling is quite good given the PS3s limitations. Also the lower player count is okay, but DICE have ensured the maps are balanced. Some map areas may be a bit smaller, but be reassured, these maps are still huge even compared to Bad Company 2. There may be even some benefits of having the console version (albeit minor) such as having an integrated server browser/filter. You need to use the server browser to get into the Hardcore modes or smaller infantry frays. CoD players should give this a go - you can even have infantry only servers if you want. What I like about BF3 (and Bad Company 2 for that matter) over CoD is the destruction, suppressive fire, and battle effects that really effect how you play. You don't feel like you are fighting in rat maze.

Hard to believe Destructoid gave this a 7.5 and gave Killzone 3 a 9?! KZ3 was graphically and sonically beautiful but unfortunately marred by spawn camping madness, godlike radar, predictable maps, and unbalanced sniper class. Its multiplayer has nothing on BF3 or even BC2. Also, those who enjoy tactical shooters or realistic shooters such as ArmA2 may find they really like BF3, as though not nearly realistic tactically, BF3s immersive elements of visual, audio and 'battlefield' effects bring a level of psychological immersion not seen before. To me this is almost the perfect game. I don't think Dice have 'sold out' or been tainted by EA or big money. If anything, they've both suffered and succeeded for being so ambitious.

Those not wishing to shell out $1000 or more for a new game rig will find that BF3 on the PS3 will tide you over - until next year or after, when even mid-range PCs deliver the graphical guts required to render this game in its full glory. BF3 comes just at the right time with winter around the corner. I'm tempted by MW3 as well, but really, the amount of gaming hours available in BF3 are staggering - there are probably 100s of hours here, and with new maps on their way, a massive tech-tree of unlocks, this has the potential to be a seriously dangerous habit.

I bought BF3 for multiplayer only and i would be happy not to see single player at all if it meant additional multiplayer maps in the game. BF3 is certainly the best BF version on consoles to date. Graphics are solid but animations feel like taken straight from Bad Company 2. Overall not as good as one would expect from watching all advertising material from EA but still the best on consoles to date. There is bunch of small changes, tweaks that I like in BF3. Addition of prone position into the game is a big bonus in my mind. Overall I find multi player game play better then in previous BF on consoles. I like urban setting of some maps. Smaller maps offer tight space and fierce fighting with 24 players. Truly tons of fun. However 24 players on some larger maps just feels not enough. Battlefield 3 is not great departure from previous BF games but it is non the less the best BF on the consoles to date. I hope EA and Dice will not make the same mistake that it did with BC2, namely releasing "new maps" which are the same maps already released with new game modes. This was a huge turn off for me. I am willing to pay $$ for truly new maps, with new settings and graphics. New map packs made me happy for months with COD and this is the reason why i got rid off BC2 but still have Black Ops. I also hope that EA will not charge $15 per map pack like Activision because this is seriously too much money for a game add on. I highly recommend for you to pick up BF3. But overall the MP is a ton of fun, hundreds of unlock to keep the game fresh and Frostbite 2 in a master piece.

Verdict: must buy, but if you are scared of glitches, wait a few weeks till they patch everything then hump in one of the best FPS ever

Tons of weapon upgrades which actually affect the weapon characteristics. Online feels solid. I'm dropping the score by a notch, due to some minor glitches (sure to be worked out via patches) and the overly scripted train intro sequence (been there done that). Well done! Expand

ONLINE ONLY: The game is what it wants to be, a realistic shooter with grit that offers something different for shooter fans sick of the Call of Duty series......Where it falls down is the fact that I was never able to finish a game of Rush before the game crashed and kicked me. It was so bad I traded it in for MW3, that's saying something......Such a shame

As a bad company 2 player, I had high hopes for battlefield 3. And for the most part it meets and even exceeds some of my expectations. Firstly just to get the elephant out of the room or in this 'review', the single player. Battlefield series has never been much of a single player title and battlefield 3 is no different. Due to very restrictive gameplay, very cliché story and worst of all, getting repetedly killed by an enemy from one corner of the room whilst you are dealing with the enemy in the other die. The only reason why you will want to play the single player mode is to unlock the maps in CO-OP missions. I am not going to talking much about the CO-OP missions since i have only played 2 matches. However the main reason why anyone is going to buy BF3 is for their multiplayer mode. Dice really have shown what they can do with the frost bite engine 2.0 here. From the amazing vehicle damage to the the complete destruction of building it really is a unique experience, compare to other FPS in the market. All of guns feel solid and powerful. Graphically the game looks amazing but I do feel DICE could have done better however what it lacks visually they more than make it up in sound. Its is mind-blowing. From assault rifles to snipers they all sounds amazing. I cannot even tell you the experience of hearing the building next to you being completely obliterated, coming out of the head set. YOU NEED TO HAVE A PROPER HEADSET FOR THIS GAME.

One other thing DICE have successfully done is rewarding you for every action you do in the game. The game reward you for almost anything you do, so you can be the best player of the match without even killing any of the enemy player. In my opinion Battlefield 3 is the best shooter in the market. DICE have truly have made something special.

Big maps, incredibly awesome sound, nice teamwork, vehicle warfare. All ruined by a 30-FPS limit. No shooting game should EVER run at 30 FPS, specially the multiplayer. This ruined the experience for me.

The campaign was rather quick but it was a fun time. The vehicle missions were very unique and those are the ones that stand out once you finish off all the missions. The only issue I have with the campaign is that it's told very similar to Black Ops' campaign in that most of the missions are flashbacks from a soldier being interrogated. The threat in the campaign hits pretty close to home in the present day. The multiplayer is a lot of fun too and it's very team-based, which brings a welcome change. This is certainly one of the best FPS games on the market. Expand

In my opinion it's going to be the last actually decent Battlefield game and modern shooter before this FPS bubble pops.

The singleplayer is not that great and it is comparable to COD in aspects of linearity and blockbuster type action and yet I'd say superior writing and atmosphere. CO-OP is a bit better with 6 missions that are pretty fun with a friend.

What it shines with is multiplayer. You just don't find a shooter with team orientated framework built into its design anymore with the last one I remember being Team Fortress 2, although it's not that heavy. It's balanced and skillful with deep weapon progression and long term investments in unlocking new gear and ranks. Vehicles are an important force and staple on the field, but not instant death machines and they also require some work to use properly. You can be 4 different classes and all of them have helpful items for your team and you play in squads and feel part of a unit instead of people in a map killing each other.

I love Battlefield and the unique experiences it offers in a sea of modern shooting games. You just won't find anything else like it unless you like simulators like ARMA.

I can't think of a way to finish this, but I really recommend picking it up.

Without a doubt this is the best MP military shooter this gen. The control is the best I have encountered. The shooting and vehicle control is so natural. I have driven almost all the vehicles and they were extremely easy to control. I was afraid to try the helicopter because I had trouble with BFBC2 but to my surprise I lasted 10 minutes flying and strafing the enemy before I got to **** and crashed. Being an Attack Helicopter gunner is pure bliss!! I squad-ed into 2 players that were in an attack helicopter. I was on the machine gun and found out we were being attacked by a jet. Turned and luckily blew the jet out of the air and the next one. While we were waiting for the next jet to come we were strafing soldiers on the ground. The third one got us. Ended up in the water and committed suicide because it was to far to swim! :)

The graphics are right up there with Killzone 3 and Uncharted. They are very detailed and I am so impressed with the new Frostbite 2.0 engine's destruction!! The texture work is amazing for this scope of a game. Everything looks pretty but is still fluid. I haven't noticed any screen tearing which means if there is some the action is so good I don't notice it. The models are some of the best I have seen.

The audio is a major player here. The guns explode true to life. Explosions BOOM and the vehicles sound authentic.

I have to say the maps are fantastic! There are your wide open maps and your closed in maps. The subway map was unreal in it's destruction coming from close combat. Played in many wide open maps and that is were BF3 really shines. So many ways to get back in the action. This saves BF as having to run to the action can take a long time. Squads FTW!

PRONE!! This single addition has made the game more realistic to me. It's been fantastic using it and getting killed by it. I just sit after being killed thinking to myself that's what it would be like in real life. My enemies would go prone in that situation!! Love it! I am also very impressed with the lense fair! I have especially enjoyed the melee kills that are reminiscent to the Brutal Melee kills in Killzone 3. They don't have the Brutal aspect like no gouging the eyes but they do go into a little auto kill while you drive the knife home.

I haven't played the SP yet but I am sure I will enjoy it since it's not the focus of this type of game. I never get my hopes up for SP since BF is all about MP.

I am a little disappointed that the COOP is not full game. This doesn't make any sense to me. Maybe they can fix it in a future patch or DLC.

I did experience some connection issues. It took 5 connection tries to get into a match last night. I have had failures of 2 and 3 connection try attempts on separate occasions. However, once I am connected it's vary stable and I have not been disconnected in 8 matches so far.

I was able to get a copy of the PS3 Limited Edition and cannot wait to get the Back to Karkand DLC! That will be fun going down memory lane!

Battlefield 3 is the epitome of War. This is what it would be like to be involved in a major conflict as far as I am concerned since I have never been in the military. I am thankful the military risks their necks daily for our security as I am only able to do it in fantasy. Thank you men and woman of the military for giving me an environment where I can enjoy awesome media like Battlefield 3!

The nine multiplayer maps seem to be designed specifically to let players come up with their own creative strategies. Compared to COD, this gives the player a real sense of freedom. There is no such thing as a perfect strategy or a trotten path. [December 2011, p.74]
