Definitely one of the greatest PS3 video games, which precedes Arkham City (even better). As an action/adventure game is a 9, and as a video game based on a comic is probably a 10.

The atmosphere is very faithful to the original, and the villains (Scarecrow, Joker) are frankly well rendered. Highly recommendable.

Rocksteady really understands the character and gave us in an awesome version, a serious and scary dude, who interrogate and do all he can to get what he needs. The villains in this game are awesome, in a way we never seen in any hero game before, unique ways to face almost each boss, be hiding of scarecrow, throwing batarangs at poison ivy or dodge bane runs. The combat against random enemies still differentiated, be face to face or stealth, are not boring at all, even that you do it the whole game, the stealth fights are unique with a few different moves that you can do to eliminate your target without being seen. About the level designer, it's fanastic, the asylum adaptation for the game it's very well detailed, both inside and outside, The ariety of equipments
is another differential that makes the game become more dynamic, simple puzzles and great story telling. Batman Arkham Asylum started the best hero series in video-games introducing villains and characters in an amazing way, the joker and harley quinn duo works in every single way, nothing bad to say about them. Only one thing in this game i didn't like, wich is the final boss fight, that was not necessary at all, could be solved and finished in a much better way without that, even if that happend, the fight could be any different, but does not take away the brightness of the work at all. Great game that even after 8 years it remains a must play for every gamer and hero fans around the world, just not 10 because the sequence is on another level!

"Batman: Arkham Asylum" is a video game adaption that matched the quality of the greatest Batman comics. A dark follow-up to "The Animated Series", it was named the best comic book game ever made by critics. Gameplay-wise, the game plays like"Batman: Arkham Asylum" is a video game adaption that matched the quality of the greatest Batman comics. A dark follow-up to "The Animated Series", it was named the best comic book game ever made by critics. Utilizing the Unreal Engine, the world of "Arkham" visually recalls "Bioshock" and the characters resemble the muscular soldiers from "Gears of War". Gameplay-wise, the game plays like "Metroid" complete with hidden rooms, scattered collectibles, optional objectives and backtracking.

The story was inspired by Grant Morrison graphic novel "Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth". In the game, Batman spends an entire night tracking down the Gotham villains that have been broken out of prison by The Joker. The best aspect of the game is how it makes the player feel like the Dark Knight. It feels like a simulation since it cleverly integrates every aspect of the character (sans the Batmobile) into the gameplay. Both the stealth segments and combat mechanics are fluid and perfectly capture Batman's unique fighting styles. A cool aspect is Batman's cape that can be used in combat as well as flight, as you can use it to glide through the environments.

As players progress, Batman will gain different abilities that can eventually be upgraded. Traveling through Arkham never feels like a chore since repetition is cut down to a minimum. You're always discovering new areas and abilities, while the action moments are used sparsely to compliment the adventure feel of the game. Additionally, combat challenge rooms open up to test your skill if you just want arcade-style fighting. The PS3 version includes exclusive Joker challenge rooms which include attack moves unique to the Clown Prince of Crime.

Overall, this is a near-perfect "Batman" experience with an outstanding story, amazing visuals and terrific gameplay. At the time of its release, this game was a pleasant surprise since its developer had never made anything great before. I would "Arkham Asylum" with a 9.5 out of 10.

Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham Asylum is a truly fantastic game. I wouldn't call myself a "gamer" but I love this film. It has a fantastic story, amazing gameplay, and the most perfect voice for Batman & Joker ever: Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill. In the end, this is a truly amazing game and I have loved it since the first time I played it. I would give it a 9.5/10

Even in 2019 this is one great game. The voice-acting is perfect and the graphics and level design still hold up against many of the latest released games. The story is a bit predictable but fine. I didn't like the combat however. It felt a times very slugish.

I play the batman arkham collection on PS4 and i really the game! For a 2009 game, the gameplay is very good and it has lots of options of stealth which is good. The story isn´t the best, but the characters are very good, especially of course, the Joker.

Solid start to the Arkham series. The atmosphere, plot, characters, and action are top notch. This game really does make you feel like the Batman. Weak bosses and clunky movements aside, it's not a surprise that this game is considered to be one of the best Batman games ever made.

Some boss fights are quite boring, bane is just typical titan thug fight, joker boss fight is very underwhelming. Luckily Ivy, Scarecrow and Croc are pretty solid. It's a very good game but i'm going to point out the negatives. first the story. It's a good story for a typical game but for a batman game there was so much more potential. Also the game is very simple reminding me of older games. That isn't necessarly bad . To conclude, batman is a very good game but there was potential to become much better.

The game mechanics, whilst not quite top of their class, are solid and work very well. The combat mechanics are particularly fun with Batman looking like a real pro as he cracks some bad-guy skull. The way it flows is ridiculously accurate to how a cape should move. You will get it occasionally to clip into the floor however and facial models can look a bit dated at times but nothing major. The art style is classic Batman, with it's creepy, classic noir with a mix of modern detail to it. Every character aside from Bane perhaps and Harley's new nurse outfit is a hit or miss looks exactly how they should and the knew Killer Croc and Scarecrow designs are fantastic. P.C is clearly the best as it has added effects and better quality overall. PS3 and 360 versions hold up but like most multiplats the PS3 may have the occasional FPS dip. Still looks great though. 9/10 easily.

Gameplay: The gameplay is separated into two styles. Melee brawls and stealth sections. Melee Brawls put you against waves of thugs and utilizing "free flow combat" You take them out with a variety of punches, counters, kicks, throws etc with your combat arsenal growing bigger as unlock upgrades via XP you gain, ranging from more armor to more combat moves. Early on the game can be tempting in just mashing the attack button to win fights while tilting the stick in the direction the enemies are facing. Though the fights are nicely animated it can get tedious. Luckily the enemies eventually upgrade to shock batons and knife wielding goons which let you change your tactics and taking down a group of enemies makes you feel like your the Batman himself.

Stealth is a bit more complex. Basically Batman finds himself in a room full of Goons armed with fire arms and since Batman is still a normal human you have to take them down silently, using stealth knock outs and various gadgets such as Batarangs and explosive gel. The thing that gives you the biggest edge however are gargoyles that act as perch points and Detective vision mode. The mode allows you to view the environment in a completely knew way, highlighting key points of interests, enemies through walls and such. It's useful, but almost too useful. The Thugs A.I isn't particularly fabulous as if detected you can simply grapple up to the Gargoyle perches and chances are they'll lose you. The game itself is pretty forgiving in that regard with Detective vision becoming simply overpowered at times.
When you're not beating people up you'll be collecting trophies and solving Riddles around Arkham Island left by...well you know. How he did it is a bit ridiculous but suspending your disbelief is something you just have to do with superheroes. Solving riddles unlocks concept art and character profiles of certain characters to the Batman mythos/ Rocksteady clearly did their homework in this regard even for the most minor characters you've never heard off. Although it's a bit easy and repetitive if you don't use your imagination it's still solid. 8/10

Story: This is your typical B level comic book story. After Batman returns Joker to Arkham Asylum,he stages a break out with the help of Harley Quinn and other villains, taking the entire place over while Batman desperately tries to stop him. The plots pretty basic and the writing won't win any awards but it's focused and works well. It'll also last you about 12 hours on normal difficulty. 7/10

Characters: Like most of the game every character acts like they should. Batman is an intelligent no nonsense vigilante,Harley Quinn is a ditsy psychopath and Joker is the hilarious kind of psychopath. Other minor characters like Commissioner Gordon are good as well. Bane is a bit of a lumbering idiot which he shouldn't be but I can over look it. 8/10

Sound: This game has some acting chops. Kevin Conroy as Batman,Arleen Sorkin as Harley Quinn and Mark Hamill as the Joker all deliver top notch performances with Hamill stealing every scene he is in. The Thugs and police sound a bit generic and bland but they're not the focus of the game so it's easy to look past. The music in the game has a creepy, faithful ambient sound to it that fits the Batman universe perfectly. 9/10

    Overall: 82. Great Game.

Gameplay is good not messy and voices in Spanish were decent. About graphics, well, this is a ps3 game so you'll notice the difference if you have a ps4 but it's still a good game, maybe I would have given it a 9 if I had played this game when it was released but not more. It took me about 11-12 hours.

    What Kind of Adventure?

    Third Person Action Adventure

    Was it fun?

Its a good game and it was enjoyable.

    Are there any similar games?

The combat system is a lot like Shadow of Mordor. The difference is, I found the combat system in Shadow of Mordor to be more satisfying.

What did you think of the story?

I wasn’t overly impressed with the story. There was nothing special about it, Joker is crazy. Tries to do some some crazy **** and Batman stops him.

    Favorite Character?

I guess Batman is kind of cool in this game.

    Favorite Boss?

In my opinion, the boss battles were a little underwhelming. I guess the final boss? Juice up Joker was kind of tough but it took me 2 tries.

    Would you play it again?

No, I won’t be trying it again. At this point I’ll just move onto playing Arkham City.

    Any Complaints?

Don’t get me wrong at all, the game is not bad. Its just nothing special and nothing stood out to me. Maybe if I played the game back in 2009, I would be saying something different.

How many hours did you play it?

I beat the game in 1 day and it probably took me about 9 hours to go through the whole thing.

Batman has always been one of my favourite heroes, however, I don't think I've ever played a title based on him.

Arkham Asylum is one of the best experiences of being Batman.

A simple but bat-worthy opening story, major villains, a gameplay that mixes combat melee action, stealth, small but explorable maps, and puzzles create a pretty fun mix.

Walking down long hallways hearing the laughter of the insane patients that inhabit the Asylum make this game at times feel like a horror title. Some people might be dissapponted because the game is almost completely linear and the combat is simple. For me, collectibles are the problem. They are really boring and they try to distract you to spend more time playing but at the end, they just interrupt the story flow. All in all, a good Batman game.

Expand

Probably my least favourite Batman: Arkham game, but even that is telling of how good the series is. The combat, while not as good as the later games (understandably), is still fun, but its best quality is arguably its atmosphere. The only downsides are that the boss fights aren't amazing, and, while the story is consistent, it doesn't reach the heights of the games that succeed it - 8/10.

Punch, counter rinse and repeat. The invisible predator mode is the best thing about the game and is the only thing that keeps it from an even lower score in my book. Another thing is that game is really easy as the puzzles are moronically simple to solve. Seriously, if you can't beat this game in under 8 hours then you are doing something wrong. It's short but doesn't offer much replay aside from the little fighting room mini game with the Joker. The musical score is amazing, voice acting is amazing, story is good, graphics are top notch but that can't save the core game from being extremely shallow and generic. The RPG system where you level up techniques using XP is as simple as it comes. Why even have it if there is no depth? Why not just automatically upgrade attributes. At the end of the day I would say Infamous offers more value for the money and a better experience. This game is really only for Batman fanboys. I can't see myself playing this after I get the platinum trophy which I'm only few trophies away from doing right now. Gameplay - 5 Story - 8 Audio - 10 replay - 7 graphics - 9 Controls - 4 Total score = 43/60 or 7.0 overall Suggestion: Only buy it if you are a hardcore Batman fanboy. The game is wonderful from a graphics and sound standpoint, but fails at gameplay, and thus is not even close to the game it could have been. Disappointing. Expand

I too thought the game was quite boring. I just felt there was too much of crawling through duct work and messing with his special detective vision and way too little action. The enemies are easy to defeat and the AI is unintelligent. Batman actually moves like he is wearing a rubber suit that restricts his mobility, unless you

I was a bit let down by it. After reading all the high scores I expected so much more. It was fun, but NO WAY a 9 or 10 score that it got. I can see a Batman comic book fan drooling over it, but the game was simplistic, button mashing, with stupid AI. Having to play sooooo much in that

This game is very overrated. The reviewers only gave it such high scores because they were too distracted by the visuals and appeal of the "Batman" brand. WAY TOO MUCH of the game consisted of repetitive, mindless button mashing. The fighting sequences were just so repetitive and dumb. I don't see how a game that has so much button mashing could get such high scores. There were entire 5-10 minute stretches of this game where all I did was mash attack buttons until my thumbs were tired - how is that interesting or enjoyable? I liked the stealth sections, because at least then I had to think and use some strategy...I wish more of the game relied on stealth and strategy, and less of it relied on mashing buttons - a monkey could do that crap. I wish game developers would stop dumbing down their games just to appeal to the limited abilities of 10-year-olds and mentally challenged adults. Expand

The whole game is a class act. The fighting is sophisticated but arcade-addictive, the visuals are stylish, and the Lara-like exploration is smartly done. Plus the DC heritage feels all-encompassing like a big blanket. Arkham Asylum is comfortably the best comic book game that PlayStation's ever had, and is up there with the system's best actioners, full stop. [Sept 2009, p.95]
  2. Batman: Arkham Asylum is this year's "BioShock," not just from the connection established with the world, but from its ability to innovate where new ideas are needed, and moreover, deliver an adventure unlike any other. [Sept 2009, p.82]

Yes, this is the Batman you've been waiting for...It's a wonderful experience, beginning to end, never taking the easy or familiar route, and infusing each shift of the story with original ideas that cut no corners. [Oct 2009, p.70]
