There isn't much that I can say about this game that hasn't been said. It is a (flawed) masterpiece. The story is great, Joker is peak here (maybe the best representation of him outside of comics), the combat is fun, and the setting of Arkham Asylum is just too fun!

My only two complaints about this game is the lack of enemy variety and backtracking. I played this game for the first time in 2022, and it holds up, but the enemy variety severely lacks, and the devs try to make up for it by just adding more enemies to encounters to up the difficulty. It does not make encounters more difficult it just makes late game fights and frustrating battle of health management. Back tracking is also a big problem. You will re-clear and go through each area 2-3 times in the game. It just isn't interesting. I'm sure there were technical limitations or limitations in how big the asylum could be in the logic of the story and world, it just didn't feel good.

One of my biggest praises for this game is the art direction. In 2022, the graphics obviously aren't amazing, but that is okay because the art style down to the architecture of the buildings makes this game beautiful even today. Art style will always be greater than graphics and frame rate.

My last big praise is the voice acting. Dear gosh, give Mark Hamill and Oscar for Joker in this game. Also, Kevin Conroy literally voices Batman for this game, it is just too perfect. From the moment I heard Hamill's psychotic monologue in the opening scene I knew I was in for a truly amazing Batman/Joker dynamic that actually gets their relationship. What a game!

As far as licensed games go this is definitely in a league of its own. I must admit, before the games release I was surprised at the attention it was getting and from looking at screens and reading previews I could not really understand it. I played the demo and was impressed but not blown away. I still picked it up because I have a fair wait until Forza 3 and GT5 hit later this year. I played the demo and was impressed but not blown away. I still picked it up because I have a fair wait until Forza 3 and GT5 hit later this year. After playing for a while I was hooked and enjoyed everything about it. The story, graphics and voice acting are all top notch and the game pays all the batman fans (I am not one) some service by having back stories and mentioning some villains from past comics etc. Picking up the interview tapes that are scattered around Arkham Island also provides some interesting bit of information. It is these tapes that create the 'Bioshock feel' that many reviewers have mentioned. At least thats what I think. Either way, whethere you are a Batman fan or not I would definitely give it a look.If you are looking for non-stop action then maybe rent it first. There is not a fight around every corner but I feel that that is one of the games strong points. The pacing is excellent with puzzle and stealth sections thrown into the mix. There is always challenge mode for full on fighting too. Anyways, thats enough from me. Check it out. Expand

The moment after I picked up my reserved copy of the Collectors Ed (in which I paid for months ago) from gamestop @ the midnight release I never put the game down until after I finished the story mode & solved every 1 of the riddlers riddles & I feel as if i've just played 1 of the best told stories in a videogame of all time. The story written by Paul Dini (from Batman: TAS) was phenomenal & the casting of Kevin Conroy & Mark Hamill as the Batman & Joker was equivalent to inhaling in a breath of fresh air on a hot day (it just feels right), the visuals are stunning, and the assassins creed style of fighting can only be described as poetry in friggin motion. The exclusive ps3 content of the Joker & extra dlc makes this games replayability even better & there is absolutely no reason why this game shouldn't be a sure contender for game of the year and I can't wait for the sequel that the ending kinda hinted torwards. & you know what, since batman has finally been put in a game that gives him the justice he so rightfullly deserves 1 could only hope that rocksteady, eidos, and another great writer from the dc universe team up again 2 help reedem Superman's image on console systems as well because his old games used 2 suck 2. Excellent game. Very immersive. Scarecrow FTW. The fighting mechanic is great fun as long you work the combos and use the upgrades. Surprising level of control given a 3rd-person POV. Length is a bit short, but I think that if it ran any longer, it would become repetitive - many games go on way longer than they should. Can't wait for a sequel.

One of the best games I have played since Fallout 3 and Fable 2 last year. Very similar in style to Bioshock but the quality throughout the game is faultless. The only reason I haven't given it a full 10 marks is the lack of multiplayer action.

Do superhero games almost always suck? Yes. Has there ever been a good Batman game? No. Those were two things i knew for certain as a well played gamer. That was until Rocksteady came along with Batman: Dark Asylum. With atmosphere to rival Bioshock and an intuitive combat system, this true to the source Batman experience made me a believer.

A lot of what went into this games exceptionally high review scores had to be fun, originality, and excellent work with an existing comic IP. It used to be that games based on comics and movies were generally not good, but the tides have turned and now they are mostly good or far better. The Dark Knight was my first real foray into the Batman universe, and I walked away from that film suitably impressed, but that didn't make me a fan. Now that Arkham Asylum has been brushed, I am not just a fan of the universe but I absolutely love and adore it. Part of my love for Arkham Asylum stems from the wide assortment of valuable collectibles strewn around Arkham Asylum. Whether it's audio diaries or riddler trophies or challenges, the game digs deep with a heavy and rich emphasis on Batman lore. This lore really engrosses the player into the universe and into each individual character, detailing the villain's irrational histories. The gameplay is an impeccable highlight too. Batman has an assortment of punches, kicks and special takedowns which can be all chained into combos and you can wrack up glorious counter kills. The AI is challenging, but only in packs. One thing the gameplay particularly nails, is the changing up and the variety mix of enemies you'll encounter- forcing you to think strategically about each encounter. If there's any conceivable criticism, it's that some of the boss fights are a bit too easy, especially the one involving poison Ivy. Also the island does come down as being a bit too restrictive for my liking. But for the sheer amount of epic moments involving Scarecrow, Killer Croc and other batman villains, along with the vitality of Arkham Asylum through the numerous facilities and the levity inducing characters (not forgetting the outstanding performance of the Joker) Arkham Asylum is absolutely fantastic, and an absolute must by. Your relationship with the source material is irrelevant in a game this well crafted. Expand

The script and voice acting are top and Mark Hamil plays the Joker fantastically.

Where to start? The game is packed with not only ideas, but activities throughout the game, making for hours of play. While some of these are, rather unfortunately, of the "collect all of the..." mould, Rocksteady have taken a hugely respectable leap forward, in allowing the player to butt heads with the Riddler, solving all the puzzles he leaves around the island. The island itself is well crafted, and large enough to keep most players happy, although if you hate backtracking, be aware that you will be retracing your steps more than once.

The combat is excellent, and for me, didn't get old. It feels as though you are connecting with each henchmen when you punch, kick and throw, instead of having a big burly character swinging his fists until he happens to collide with someone. Batman is a tornado of hurt, and in the middle of a crowd, even a novice player can quickly rack up the combos.

The story sometimes feels like it exists purely to bring out the big names in the Batman universe, but why shouldn't it? The villains are hugely entertaining, and hearing the Joker taunting the Dark Knight over the PA system is a neat touch. The boss battles are hit and miss, with some feeling like a by the numbers fight with an old school boss, and some feeling truly fun.

I would heartily recommend this game to anyone, not just fans of Batman, as it is hugely entertaining, well crafted, and imaginative. This could be a classic

I won't spoil anything for those who haven't played it but the gameplay and cut scenes for one of the villains whenever he turned up were so much fun I actually looked forward to his next appearance! The visuals in this game are downright stunning, and the atmosphere is plucked right out of a movie set. The characters all look great, and the levels themselves will give you a real sense of dread when you enter areas like the sewers Killer Croc roams, or the morgue.

The controls are very intuitive, but the combo system can take some serious getting used to. There were some trophies for doing giant combos that I feel are nearly impossible. None of this will detract from the game too much though, because the combat is tight and the gadgets all work great!

Lots of side quests will keep you going for hours, like solving Riddles. Locating hidden items, and separate game modes like challenge modes really keep the replay value high.

If ever there was an action adventure game you should go right out and buy this is one of them. The game has quite a few jaw dropping moments, that you'll certainly be telling your friends about.

The game has been out for a long time now and the sequel is about to be released, so you can find it relatively cheap. This game is worth every penny you spend on it, and an adventure you'll be glad you paid to be a part of!

When you progress through the game, you will get access to new gadgets at certain points, making it possible to explore deeper into the different areas. Its never completely obvious where you are supposed head the next which makes it all the more satisfying when you find a hidden path that will take you to a new area. Scattered around the island are also "question marks" and other objects hidden in well thought out places. These objects will reward you with a respectable amount of experience points which you use to upgrade your gadgets or to learn new attack moves. In other words, exploring the different corners of the island is always genuinely exciting.
The combat system works amazingly well and the many kinds of different attack moves makes for a really dynamic and challenging combat. The dialogue or more often monologue is really well written and the story is great.

One gripe I do have with the game is that most of the thugs you fight have similar models. A little more variety in the models would have helped.

    Sound:
No complaints here. Joker being my favourite. Damn that sinister cackle.

    Gameplay:
Interesting action brawler, beat em up style gameplay, with a lot of riddle finding which was fun as many puzzles were interesting to solve. Some boss battles were kind of weak, especially recycled ones such as Bane, steroid joker, and big grunts. Also the croc fight was just plain disappointing.

When I heard about this game and all the hype behind it I feared for the worst. There wasn't a good batman game in years but this one seemed to be the turning point not only for the bat, but comic book games alike. First thing you'll notice is the game looks beautiful, being powered by the Unreal Engine and all. Controls isn't something I touch up but these are like the most perfect controls for a batman game. The sound effects, music, and voice acting are all top notch. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill reprise their iconic roles from the animated series as batman and joker respectfully. The story was handled by Paul Dini, who also wrote the animated series, and what a story it is. The joker allows himself to get captured only to lure batman to arkham asylum, where he has a plan to take it over and get rid of batman finally. I won't spoil anything, but the amount of villains put into the game was pretty amazing. The stealth mechanics in this game and they way they make you think and use your gadgets accordingly really stand out because of the way it makes you feel like you're the one wearing the cape and cowl and not just playing a game. Most of the boss fights aren't really that good with one exception. The island itself is a pretty decent size, its not exactly open world, but its a go anywhere do anything kind of game. The amount of collectibles and challenges kept me coming back for more after the game was finished. Graphics slowdowns and pop ins are minor and kinda frequent but not game braking. Minor bugs in combat also keep the score where its at. Also the lip syncing is a little off but the story is so good you won't notice it until later. I personally think the game is kept indoors a lot with the amount of are they had to play with but its all forgiven with a great overall product. I feel that some level designs about halfway through the game are questionable as they affected the ammount of replay value the game had for me. All that being said, the good out weighs the bad. With a great story worthy of it's own comic book run, graphic novel, or even a movie, excellent voice acting, an incredible world filled with iconic batman villains, tons of gadgets at your disposal, and a perfect combat system this game truly does its best to make you feel like you are the freaking batman. I’ve said it plenty of times before that my love for gaming as a whole is so big that I will not hesitate to play a game based on a series I’m unfamiliar with/not a huge fan of, if the game really looks great. Take “Batman: Arkham Asylum,” for example: while I’ve seen quite a few of the “Batman” films and enjoyed them (especially “The Dark Knight,” which is possibly one of my favorite films), I’m not deeply ingrained in the lore of “Batman” and, while I’m not the biggest superhero fanatic in the world, I tend to lean more towards Marvel than DC. You’d think I would’ve just ignored something like “Batman: Arkham Asylum,” but given that it’s one of the most critically-acclaimed superhero games ever, I wanted to give it a try. And sure enough, I absolutely understand all the love for the game.
Much of the hype around “Batman: Arkham Asylum” back in 2009 centered around how the game really lets you *be* Batman, but really, as much as it can be goofy to say that, it’s actually pretty true: Batman’s mechanics in the game, from his flight to his combat to his gadgetry, is so wonderfully-crafted to the point where you really feel like you really are Batman. The game as a whole builds on the foundation set by previous superhero games like “Spider-Man 2,” but adds its own fantastic and unique twist to it, adding in some heart-pounding stealth, clever puzzles, and presentation that feels true to “Batman” and his surrounding world. I think the visuals for the game remain great even after so long (and even after playing the remastered version on the PlayStation 4), the sound design is impeccable, the story and the writing just suck you in even if you’re not a “Batman” aficionado, and the voice work is top-notch. And the gameplay…wow, the gameplay. This game pulls you in and pretty much refuses to let you go: the combat is fast-paced and easy to learn yet challenging to master, the level design and creation of Arkham Asylum is pretty breathtaking and well-worth exploring, and the puzzles are challenging yet absolutely worth exploring. “Batman: Arkham Asylum” is the type of game you’ll find it hard to put down: there’s so much going on in it that gives it appeal to even those without much of an interest in the comics, world and lore of The Caped Crusader.
If I can make one comment about the game, and it seems like this has been said before, I think that the boss fights in the game are, for the most part, pretty bland and memorable only for the wrong reasons. Most of these fights become repetitive and stale all too quickly, relying on patterns that are all too similar and monotonous, to the point where they dull down the experience a bit. This really could’ve been an easy 10/10 had the boss fights not been such a weak spot in the game.
Nevertheless, “Batman: Arkham Asylum” has shown no signs of its age even after all these years, and it’s still a game that’s absolutely worth the massive amounts of praise that it’s received. Regardless of whether or not it’s still the #1 superhero game ever made, this game definitely sits in the masterclass of comic book video games, and it’s a game that even hardened, non-fans of “Batman” should play at least once. Rocksteady, way to do The Dark Knight justice.
Final rating: 9 out of 10 “Awesome”

    Now on to the review.
This is a brilliant game. Definitely one of the best games to kick off a series. The atmosphere is set from the first cutscene, and doesn't stray for a second ingame. This is a brilliant game for fans and non fans of Batman. It follows the comics and animated series, not the Batman films, so don't expect to hear Christian Bale's growl anywhere. The voice acting is perfect, especially from beloved animated series stars Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark Hamill as the Joker. The freeflow combat system is fantastic, and although you are pressing square to attack and triangle to counter, the beauty of the simple controls is that you get to watch the amazing moves batman uses on his enemies. This goes for the Joker's combat too, his moves are funny as well as epic to watch. The story is epic, definitely worthy of a film, book, or graphic novel. The only issues one may have with the game are the boss battles can be repetetive, but I don't really see that as a problem, and the amount of mashing the x button you have to do (there's a lot of air vents and walls to pull down, which requires a lot of mashing) but I don't really see this as a problem.
This game is brilliant, definitely worthy of it's Game of the Year status, and one of my favourite games.

Great game! The sneaking is great, the battle mechanics are also great, but...... the bosses suck. You will encounter the same boss fight at least 5 times, & each with more enemies, to the point where it's crowded. I got the the point where I met joker, & he sent out 2 big dues, & I never played again.

There isn't much to say about the Arkham games that hasn't already been said. They redefine the standards for super hero games and games in general by staying loyal to its source material while putting the player in the shoes of the Dark Knight. They feature top-notch voice acting by Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, the definitive Batman-Joker duo. They created one of the best fighting system in gaming, making hordes of bad guys feel more than just typical button-mashing, but an orchestra of perfectly timed counters and takedowns. With all the immense hype surrounding the game, it seems impossible that Arkham Asylum can reach the lofty goals the gaming community set for it.
I'm happy to say, however, that this is not only the Batman game The Dark Knight deserves, but it's also the one he needs.
The story is riveting from start to finish. The Caped Crusader has just stopped the Joker from committing a routine bank robbery, claiming it was almost as if the Clown Prince of Crime wanted to be caught. Batman takes him back to the asylum where he belongs, only to find that this was the Joker's true intentions all along. With the help of several other of Arkham's most dangerous inmates, he takes over the asylum and traps Batman and the rest of the guards inside. In order to prevent them from wrecking havoc on Gotham City through a complex plan that reveals itself the deeper you go into the story, Batman must take down the Joker and his allies before they escape the island. From the first few minutes, in which the game throws you straight into the action, to each emotionally charged boss takedown, the story and atmosphere hit bullseyes. In addition, despite a few botched lines, the dialogue and voice acting also are flawless.
The best part of the game is the action, which makes nearly all of the other aspects of the game feel practically insignificant. Beating up hordes of bad guys never felt better. You create a symphony of punches, kicks, and blocks that makes you feel invincible. However, powerful Titan-fueled giants and armored thugs mix up the gameplay and provide challenge. Stealth mode also shines. In order to take out a room of armed henchmen, you need to use your wits more than your fists. Batman will die if he takes too many bullets, so each room must be prepared for carefully and the environment needs to be manipulated to your advantage to survive the night. For example, two guards might be faced back to back to cover blind spots, so blowing up a wall nearby might be necessary to split them apart and take them down individually. The AI feels incredibly real. I was detected when I was expected to be and when I felt silent and undetected nothing stopped me from delivering a neck-paralyzing punch to a thug. As I was observing the scene from the darkness above on a gargoyle, I realized that I didn't just feel like the Dark Knight. I WAS the Dark Knight. Arkham Asylum is one of the most immersive games ever created, making the player really feel like a hardened vigilante in a prison full of psychopaths. Every moment is fully engrossing and surprising; one shocking me so much I thought my PS3 had crashed and was broken forever. No other game in recent memory provides so many memorable moments that tie in so well with the DC Universe.
Despite all this praise, there are downsides. Detective Mode is important to detect bad guys and pathways thought the asylum, analogous to X-ray vision. However, you can't appreciate the scenery and graphics when the game gives you no incentive to turn off this vision since there may be bad guys right around the corner. In addition, the boss battles are downright miserable. Every one feels forced and repetitive, especially the "fight" with Killer Croc, which is by far the worst moment in the game. Even the Joker's fight is wrong, coming as a complete embarrassment to his character. For a villain who relies so much on evil planning and deliciously complex intelligence hidden beneath an apparent madness, his boss battle is just like fighting one of the mindless Titan-infused minions throughout the game, which comes off as a major letdown.
Despite all this, Arkham Asylum is a fantastic superhero game and game in general. While the boss battles disappoint and fighting feels rigid in certain areas, everything else in the game is pure, stylized perfection. There are Easter eggs and references for Batman addicts and enough engaging gameplay and storytelling to invite newcomers into the Gotham universe. But the game's crowing achievement, the one aspect that puts all others to shame, is the way it makes you feel like you are behind the cape and cowl, saving the world from the Joker one punch at a time.
    Welcome to the madhouse.

The game is flawed and many minor details lack this game behind from greatness. But for the most part, this was a well made game and offers a different environment to the action-adventure genera. The character cast is superb and the creativity of the game, which defines the characters and game play, is well created.

I didn't know I loved Batman so much until I played this game (and then watched the new movies). Awesome stealth-mechanics, awesome fight-mechanics, awesome environments and atmosphere, awesome voice acting, and varied enemies and bosses! The sequel, Arkham City has you swooping between roof tops of a part of Arkham City, but I prefer the closeness of the Asylum!

Wow , when I bought this off the bargain bin at a local store I never expected it to be one of the best games I've ever played. This is a great product and you're gonna have a lot of fun playing it no matter what.

So, as far as the gameplay is concerned it's flawless , except perhaps the enemy NPCs who are a bit too stupid/blind (you can stand right next to them and they won't see you if you're crouching. Then again I guess they're not any worse than the guards in the Assassin creed games). Now Arkham Asylum is pretty short (12-13 hours on normal), but this isn't really a disadvantage - that's the way the plot is (which by the way is amazing), so the length seems appropriate.

Then there's the challenge mode (it's like a battle arena, where you beat the hell out of various opponents), which is great fun and you'll definitely want to play them all after finishing the story mode (you can even play as the Joker). Problem is, to unlock them all you'd have to complete all side-objectives (namely to collect all "trophies" scattered around the island, or solve riddles), which honestly feels like a chore. You'd have to spend inordinate amounts of time to do it yourself without checking walkthroughs on the internet (something the game cheerfully aknowledges). It's a chore, but a pretty fun one, cause navigating around the Arkham Island is a very interesting experience.

There's one tiny technical problem with the game; the music and sound effects are too loud compared to the dialogues, so you'd better turn subtitles on (or turn the volume up during cutscenes, then back down, cause the voice acting is top-notch). Overall this one's a blast and you gotta play it.

Batman Arkham Asylum is a fantastic game where you actually feel like you're controlling the Dark Knight himself. Combat is satisfying and the setting is very dark, which suits the game well. Batman fans rejoice! Finally what we've always wanted from a super hero game. In this review for Batman: Arkham Asylum, I will give my opinions and ratings on the following: Gameplay, Story, Sound, Graphics, and Last Impressions. This will be followed by my overall score.

    Gameplay: 9.5/10
    - The introduction to the now popular (and possibly over used) freeflow combat system. The first time I got my hands on Batman Arkham Asylum and found myself surrounded by foes, I couldn't help but drop my jaw at how choreographed and fluid the combat in this game looks. There's a crunch to every punch, kick, and counter and it all just feels so good. The predator/stealth sequences deliver as well. There are many different options on how to take out your enemies, but after the first few predator encounters you may feel like the options are limited at times.

    Story: 9/10
    - Arkham Asylum delivers a new story for the Bat. Lead by Batman, Oracle (Barbara Gordon), and of course the Joker, the story had me wanting more until the very end. The delivery is excellent and cutscenes will be engaging for any Batman fan. The only thing keeping 'Story' from receiving a 10/10 in my review is the fact that it is quite short (about 10-15 hours). There is some more to do afterwards though (collectables and challenge maps).

    Sound: 9/10
    - Voice acting is done wonderfully by all expected voice actors and as I mentioned before, the combat has great sound effects.

    Graphics: 8.5/10
    - The whole Asylum has an awesome look to it. Scenery is excellent and well designed, characters all look how you'd expect them to look. Common NPC's you talk to throughout your journey on the other hand... don't look so good. Whenever the Bat is in an in game conversation is the only time this game doesn't look so good. Cutscenes and gameplay during combat and exploring both look excellent and run smoothly.

    Last Impressions
    - Arkham Asylum is an excellent game for any Batman fan. It is one of the very best super hero games I have ever played and because of the excellent story, feels timeless to me. I finished the game 3 different times and could see myself playing it again sometime down the road. It is a must play for any Batman fans.

    Final Score: 9/10

Back in my Arkham Knight review i mentioned that if the rest of the Arkham games were just as good, if no better than that game, then i would be in for a treat...probably the most correct statement i made so far.

STORY: After capturing the Joker with no effort, Batman goes to Arkham Asylum in where they will incarcerate Joker. However Batman gets a bad feeling about this and decides to follow the Joker, and just like he thought, the Joker escapes rather easily and with the help of Harley Quinn and some other villains, he quickly transforms Arkham Asylum into his own playground and Batman sees himself in the middle of it. So it's up to the Dark Knight to explore the Asylum, beat the ever living **** out of everything and stop the Joker from provoking chaos.

PRESENTATION: For a 2009 PS3 and Xbox 360 game Arkham Asylum still holds up extremely well even by today's standards. The framerate doesn't drop all that much, the environments have tons of details, the voice acting is performed by the actors you know and love, the models are well constructed, the animations are spot on (except for the dialog segments), it's just overall a nice game to look at. Of course there's some popping, dated textures and models and every once in a while the game loads in the middle of the adventure, but that's it.

GAMEPLAY: Batman Arkham Asylum is a pretty unique game if i can say so myself.

The game has different things going for it and i feel like the combat system is the biggest one. By mashing the attack button Batman will do attacks up the wazoo that will easily combo enemies. While the combat system is very fun and satisfying, is not until the last hours of the game where you really need some strategy, since most enemies can't do **** against you, plus you have counter-attack button that will also put enemies on the ground, but you have to react fast enough. When an enemy is on the ground you can finish them off, but leaves you vulnerable, so check that there's no one around you before doing it. The game however does throw enough enemy and attack variety to not make the combat repetitive, but it does become a little tiny bit shallow.

When you finish fights you'll gain experience points that you can use to upgrade Batman in 20 times, whether it's giving him a new gadget, improving combat or toughness, the experience points help to make the game a little more addictive than it's already is.

Along the way Batman will get new toys to play around with. You either get them by upgrading Batman (like i said before) or by just going through the game normally. This tools range from variations of the batarangs, to explosive gel, to a hacking device, ect. This gadgets are used for either combat or solving puzzles and situations that the game presents you and they're really fun to use. I specially love to use the explosive gel to set up traps, man does that feel good.

But of course Batman is also the greatest detective and for that we get Detective Mode. It's as simple as it sounds, Batman will start seeing things in a blue fashion, it can detect enemies, DNA trails, breath, fingerprints, clues, etc. Detective Mode is great, but perhaps it's a little too great, since there's no punish for using it, you can approach every challenge very prepared, effectively making the game pretty easy. Because of that you'll be in Detective mode throughout 80% of the adventure at the cost of not seeing the game's graphics.

In terms of what you can do in the Asylum, there's some collectables and riddles to solve. The former being character biographies, tapes and the riddler trophies, while the the latter is something that the Riddler has prepared for you. You can find all of these things scattered all around the Asylum, but if i were you i wouldn't bother with it.

However were the game really drops the ball is in the Bosses. To know how they are you just have to take the Bane boss battle, a muscle dude that rushes towards you, you throw a batarang, he hits himself and then you hit him while fighting some mooks, then rinse and repeat and there you go, those are the bosses of the game. The only bosses that mix things up are Scarecrow, Poison Ivy and Killer Croc, but even those have problems. Killer Croc is more boring than anything else, if you can even call it a boss battle and Poison Ivy is just more mooks with a giant plant in the background. Really the only boss i thought it was design well was Scarecrow, here you have to avoid being spotted by him, while going through a 2D course that tests your platforming and fighting abilities, that was a pretty good boss.

Overall Arkham Asylum is a fantastic game, i can definitely see why it was the GOTY of 2009. There's plenty of content i haven't talked about yet, but honestly even when considering just the single player and the game's flaws...it's still amazing. The bosses may be uninspired, but the game kicks *** in so many other areas that i don't even notice.

    I'll give it a 9/10.

The whole game is a class act. The fighting is sophisticated but arcade-addictive, the visuals are stylish, and the Lara-like exploration is smartly done.
