To say this is not a good game is ridiculous. There are a few technical issues to be sure, which hopefully will be addressed in a patch. Once you get to Boston, things pick up. In reality, I'd give it an 8.5, which is still excellent overall. I wanted to offset the idiots who are saying it's a "0". Come on. But being honest, it's also not exactly a 10 either. What it is, however, is a truly unique experience with an amazing chance to play in the world of colonial America. If you're a prissy fanboy tool, don't bother getting it. Everyone else using a 10th of your brain or more will love it. Expand

The story is magnificently compelling, the graphics and the engine, seasons and all that stuff is mind-blowing and the character is an all-new, very different and interesting and fun character. I finished the game two hours ago and I still have stuff to do enough to make an entire game out of... This is superb AC experience... Yeah, there are an unusual amount of glitches and bugs which aren't as important as some people think. Besides, it caught my eye that these bugs lessen when you progress. Anyway, this is a magnificent game which is, in my opinion, Ubisoft's geatest work. Finally, the ending still left a lot of questions and also many new ones, regarding the outcome of the game's events. I think we're definitely going to be seeing a lot of AC still and most likely connected to this ending. Expand

C'mon, I really cannot believe you people are judging this game this bad. Okay, AC3 is not the best game in human history, but is not that far away from being such. Now, gamers do not depend in the story of the series- which, by the way, is still pretty awesome - to continue playing the game. The old "counter-to-win" style is not more so significant. The confrontations are more dynamic and the different kinds of missions make the game one hell of a good choice for the GOTY. The few things that can be said about this piece of art are definitely related with its bugs, loading screens, lack of involvement with some characters, and not-that-good ending. AC3 does not follow ME3 terrible ending model, as its almost certain the existence of a sequel for the game, but.... all fans that waited anxiously for the third episode of Desmond's saga won't be truly satisfied with its conclusion. I've heard some people say they don't like Connor which baffles me. Sure he is a little one-note, but the guy epitomizes courage and an unwavering determination. The difference between him potentially dying, and doing the right the thing, doesn't exist. If something needs to be done, he's going to do it any way he can. I suppose that isn't really a unique trait in a video game hero, but because this story is so steeped in history it dawns on you that a guy not unlike this probably did exist.

Branching off that, the biggest draw for me is the story (and always has been with the AC series). It's wonderful. The overarching story is great, and how it connects and parallels the modern day Desmond story is really very clever. I wish I could put this into my own words but GameInformer managed to say exactly how I felt about the main story as it's truly one of the best I've played in any game. "The storytelling that weaves through these many threads is stellar. Rather than hiding from the complex themes of freedom versus control at the heart of the series, Assassin

Not only is combat different, but the feeling of the game changes drastically as well. You'll find yourself actually worrying about other characters and the regular populace, completing more side-quests than you normally would. Notoriety is also a bigger part of the game, as once it reaches level three, it becomes impossible to navigate the city roads or rooftops without attracting attention. The characters are well-developed, I find myself hating the Templars as much as I love them. Overall, it depends on your point of view and how you're affected by change, as there is a lot of it in this game, give it a try, get used to it. 9/10 for a few glitches, some weird lip synch and for the general length of the game, which is insufficient. I feel like Desmond's story has been neglected since the first game and I feel we as gamers were robbed of the development of Desmond and having another great character in the series. You could take his story completely out and it would not bother me one bit. I wish more time would have been spent on developing Desmond but otherwise the series has ended strong. The new game mechanics are impressive, especially combat. It used to be combat was a breeze and you could take down multiple enemies in seconds, now it is more challenging and adds more depth to combat with the gun play since most enemies carry guns. The sailing was also well done, to my surprise. The ship was easy to control and also offered a challenge by having to gauge winds but lowering your sails. The game overall was impressive and I will definitely have another play through. Expand

Unlike previous installments, this one doesn't really tell a story, it's just a series of strung together missions with minimal transition between. Even the original AC was easier to swallow than this because it had a cohesive storytelling mechanism, but this lacks the thought and polish of even the original installment. Had Ubi put even a modicum of polish into this installment that they had in any of the previous ones, or taken the lessons learned from any of the prior 4 major console releases, this would have been a masterpiece, but in its current state, this is almost a big a steaming pile as Duke Nukem Forever. Quite repetitive and constrained, and also really annoying how you can't fully upgrade your homestead if you miss an upgrade during an earlier sequence. Hope the next one is an improvement...

I have been playing games and perusing Metacritic for years. ACIII is the first game to disappoint to such a degree as to drive me to comment. Wandering, lackluster, and frustrating. Ubi should be ashamed. This game can only meekly stand in the shadow of its predecessors. Go back, do it again, and get it right.

Story was, by far, the worst of the entire series.

Conner was a mental midget who spends the entire game acting like a petulant six year old.

On the flip side, actual game mechanics were mostly solid, with some improvements over previous games in the series. Unfortunately, I love(d) the AC story, and Conner's story was so bad, and Desmond's "end" was so bad, I have to give AC 3 a 4.

The homestead missions are great, i felt myself growing attached to the various characters moving in on my land and enjoyed helping them out. The story is actually epic and cinematic just like Uncharted 2 and the gameplay feels facking relaxing just like World of Warcraft Classic and the RPG elements feels just as original as Fable 1: The Lost Chapters. In few words this game is insane and addicting with this relaxing feeling you probably had when you tried the first series of World of Warcraft role-playing games. Why? In Assassins Creed 3 they changed EVERYTHING from start to scratch. They even changed the way you use the buttons. They even changed the health bar and the sound effects. This is not Assassins Creed 1, 2 or the expansions... this is a brand new one which doesn't even remind about the old ones. It's a whole new project WAY different from the other ones. The graphics looks like Uncharted 2 and way more improved than the old Assassins Creed games. You don't hang around the streets everytime and searching for those Eagle Eye buildings to do sidemissions everytime. For the first time the game is actually telling the story just like they do in movies. This time it's DEFINITELY not about running on roofs and killing people. No... I've been amazed by the sheer scale of that game. It's incredible. The story is very interesting, the gameplay is fun and feels right. I was afraid of setting assassin's creed in america because I thought it would be impossible to beat a game that was set in the renaissance era. As assassin's creed 2 was a giant leap from the first one, assassin's creed 3 is giant leap from AC2. To me it is a big contender for Game of the year. We'll just have to wait and see for there are still other games that need to be released before giving the final judgement. But all in all, it's an amazing that I don't think anyone should miss! This game has amazing atmosphere and is the best one in the series in my opinion. The problem with this game for me is that the story is very boring for the first half of the game and I tried to stick it out, but the game is just ridiculously long.

I love the AC series, and although I was iffy on whether or not this one would manage to tie in well enough with it's predecessors, I was very excited to receive it yesterday. That is, until the gameplay started. The visuals alone save this game from an abysmal rating from me. They are truly amazing, and the developers managed one of the best looking games I have ever seen. Unfortunately, the greatness ends there. The rest isn't all horrifying; some of it is just boring. I like games that I enjoy watching others play. I loved Ezio and his story; Connor, while new and slightly interesting, seems to fall a little flat in comparison. I think I payed attention for the first half-hour of gameplay when we got it yesterday, and then I tuned out. Cut scenes, while nice, need to be limited. I don't think it's necessary to spend 5 minutes of a 12 minute mission watching the characters do their own thing. The new controls are not a favorite of mine; granted, mostly because I don't particularly like change in things that work well for me, but part is due to the fact that you are continuing a tradition containing 4 predecessors. Lock picking has to be my #1 pet peeve for this game. It is irritating and redundant. And the glitches!! Why show peg legs on my map when while trying to get them i fall off a cliff, land in a black spot with no way to get out, and have to commit suicide to get unstuck? How is it possible to get a AAA for this subpar, painfully flawed, and obviously half-finished pile of s***? Seriously, I hate to give up on this series, because until now it has been a great ride, but I pray that they're smart enough to end this joke. Expand

I loved all of the previous AC games and was really looking forward to this one.

Unfortunately, this game is bad. If it were the first in the series it would be the only one made. Like most of the previous games, they changed the combat controls. Where these changes previously made combat more fluid and enjoyable in previous titles, the combat in this game is clumsy and unrewarding.

Like most of the previous games, they changed the combat controls. Where these changes previously made combat more fluid and enjoyable in previous titles, the combat in this game is clumsy and unrewarding. The stealth aspect has also been changed for the worse- the cues you get as to whether or not you're in stealth are minimal, and the open world areas are simply annoying- once you finally get to them after playing a third of the game. Getting to that point feels like a chore, however, since there are so many cutscenes that you aren't really playing the game as you are spending a couple minutes fighting a horrible camera and clunky controls until you stumble into the part of the game that triggers another five minute long cutscene. I'm not kidding. The first third of the game is more cut-scenes than actual game play.

The things that made the previous games great: the fluid combat, the entertaining side quests, and the open-world parkour-like climbing have been replaced with large open areas where you just run forever along boring repetitive flat ground, and then they threw in some QTE sequences and the ability to... kill bears, deer and beavers.

The graphics are not as good as the previous games in the series, and the plot is so boring that a third of the way through I honestly stopped caring if any of the characters actually lived or died.

They took all of the annoying parts of the previous games and built an entire game around those then threw in a water-thin plot and a horrendous camera then changed the controls to make them even more cumbersome and called it a day. Rather than buying this game, you should just play the earlier titles in this series and hope that if they make another AC that it's actually good.

This game is an amazing new iteration for the Assassin's Creed saga, a worthy successor to its awesome predecessors, and an epic tale where you can enjoy the incredible amount of work that Ubisoft surely invested on it. Here the American Revolution feels alive and fresh, and it comes with a multifaceted and human hero: the memorable Connor.

This is so disappointing, missing audio, floating rifles, people disappear in the middle of a battle, assassinate mission where the target is missing... Never, and i mean never have i played a more flawed game, Ubisoft should be kicking themselves for delivering this piece of garbage...
How can you release such a flawed game and still demand money is beyond my comprehension...

Assassin's Creed III takes everything that worked well in previous titles, sprinkled in a touch of Red Dead Redemption, tweaked thecombat to be as smooth as Batman: Arkham City, borrowed the cinematic and character development of Uncharted 2, and polished it all off to be one of, if not the very best, game of 2012.

The game starts you off right after revelations where after Desmond seen the truth behind the 2012 incident years ago. Desmond and his crew went in the vault inorder to save the world but only to find that there is a series of power keys you need to find in order to open the pathway to something far beyond in the inner depths of the world. Desmond fall into a stasis and went back on the animus to find out that during the 1700's, he had other ancestors that related to the vault he was in. You start to play as Hathym(SP), an grandmaster assassin, trying to find the exact vault that Desmond is already in with a huge twist in the beginning. Sooner later You start to play as another ancestor, Connor Kenway(Ratohnhaké:ton) from child to teenanger, trainy, then a full pledge Assassin. There is some Desmond story throughout the hours you put into the game and talking to the crew: Shaun, Rebbecca, and William(Desmonds Father), though most of it is talking then taking small missions to obtain the power cells. Ubisoft made it more intriging to know the characters better as even a interative talk gives the characters more meaning and life. Some characters are brought back for explanation like Ezio, Altiar, Lucy, the alien gods, and Subject 16 with some new ones as well.

The graphics of this game is outstanding. To facial animations, little small animations that gives you the feel that your in the world, the detail on other characters and the world, setting and rich atmosphere of snow, rain, spring, etc. The 5 years that Ubisoft took on this game shows though the fire can be abit better. During when i was playing through Conners child missions, going in the burning village was really awesome but the fire kinda look like water colored with red, orange, and yellow. With some minor bugs that I experince with didn't ruin the game for me, but it can be silly to look at sometimes like a bayonette musket floatin in the air.

The gameplay is changed dramaticually in this game, making it more simpiler than the others. People who can't seem to adjust to the controls should have expected it because of the content in this game. There is hunting, running, fighitng, stealth, boat battles, uses of inventories, etc. It's endless and I can see why people think its all clustered. To me, i thought it was pretty played out well, except the few minor experinces with the parkour free run when I didn't meant to run up some walls but gladly they didnt bother me. The AI in the game is kind of wonky with me in where I was literally infront of the redcoats while in the bushes and I stook out like a sore thumb yet he didnt' notice me.Gives me that flawed Assassins Creed AI feel to me which is great actually. Combat is alot better with vaired of weaponary in uses which how you want to dispose the enemy, either tomahawk them to death, use the dagger?hidden blade, bow, dart ropes, swords, musket, flicklocks, etc. This combat made me feel more impact of the feeling of actually hitting them kinda like Uncharted and Batman since they give you the feel of acutally being in the fight. You can mash buttons but come on, alot of people do that. The sound of the game gives life to it. The crowd of its screaming, conversations, pigs, dogs, anything you see in real life is pretty much what it feels here. The voice acting is astonishing with Benjimin Franklin, George Washington, the natives, Conner. its all top notch thought the Indian Native language voice acting seems abit off sometimes but still give that cutural feeling. Gameplay sound is good, sounds more clear than the pervious games though sometimes the audio is cut out( I only experinced it once).

You can see that i greatly enjoyed the hell out of this game. I put over hours of this game and still loving it. I highly recommend to pick this game up. Even if you are or not an assassins creed fan.

I would consider myself a hardcore AC fan, after the disappointing Revelations, I was still optimistic that Ubisoft would pull back with a superior and brilliant title to the other four entries in the franchise, brilliant?Yes, superior? No, not quite.
There was concern way back early last year when Ubisoft announced AC III, a brand new era, location, protagonist, and much larger in size to the rest, many had grown to Ezio, Italy, and the vibrant Italian cites during the Renaissance. But I for one was excited by the prospect of the Frontier, sprawling countryside, snow, trees, the lot.
Without giving away too much, our new protagonist, Native American/British Conor Kenway, doesn't fully 'suit up' until the fifth sequence in the game.
The story, while attempting to place our new Assassin into the historical events which led to the Revolution of the United States, feels rushed and sometimes empty compared to AC II, the characters are forgetful and bland, and I think Ubisoft may have tried just too hard to place Conor at the centre of EVERYTHING.
Without delving too much into Desmond's story, some may have seen his finale as quite useless, but I for one am glad that closure was finally brought to his chapter, leaving room for a new idea.
This game did simply just feel incomplete.
But the reason it still has a high score is because it still has an excellent backstory, the combat is simplfied again but equally as excellent, the vast array of miscellaneous tasks here are brilliant, whether you're going to loot a convoy, build a homestead, or just plain old assassinations, there is plenty to do here in New York, Boston and the Frontier. Connor feels very assassin like, he's hell bent on revenge and has no problem being alone throughout his story.
The graphics are good, but not great, the game just couldn't capture the beauty of Red Dead Redemptions sprawling countryside. I found the frontier particularly annoying, the distant hills looked extremely cartoon-like, the game was also, at several times, glitchy to the point of many items not appearing and sound being out of synch with the person speaking during cutscenses. It also still bothers me that there is still loading times between cities/countryside, get used to seeing Conor in a bright white loading screen, you're going to see plenty of it.
It was obviously great to see another instalment this past year, but the changes simply aren't enough to justify an annual title, the improvements are there but more needs to be done to break the mould and to put up with AC II as being a breakthrough game of the generation.

See what used to be ok with past games such as Metal Gear Solid, Splinter Cell, and other stealth games, is no longer considered ok, as was proven in games such as Dishonored, Deus Ex, etc. Now we want choice on how to fulfill an objective, not just told it can be handled one way, and if you don't do it correctly, we'll throw endless waves of enemies at you until you figure it out. This is unfortunately AC3, where if you don't follow the way the devs want you to accomplish a goal, they make it as difficult and as frustrating as possible, until after much trial and error, you find that path they wanted you to take. Not fun.

Naval battles are boring and don't add anything to the story, nor does it fit properly in the context of the fiction. Side quests are pointless and not worth doing. Eavesdropping mission is easily one of the worst game mechanics I have ever experienced in my years of gaming. Overall the game was not that good. Has it's moments, as the fighting is fun and taking down an leader with an aerial kill is always exhilarating, there just isn't enough moments to make me want to keep playing after 20 or so hours.

Homestead missions added a lot of flavor to the character development in the community although the voice acting for the main protagonist was horrible (he did much better in the main quest). The naval battles were off the chart awesome...Ubisoft should seriously consider making a pirate game. Neither the story nor the main character are as engaging as past "Ezio" games except for the sequences with Haytham (best character in game) and at times if felt a little ridiculous with Connor being the "savior" of all these huge past events. The sequences with Desmond were at times more fun than those in the animus and the game is worth the price if for nothing more than seeing the conclusion to his story. One shortcut was taken that really annoyed me. In the frontier at least 5 viewpoints are trees....I have no problem with that except for the fact it's the exact same tree every time...and when you do them one after another to open up the map, it is really aggravating. 1. The game is very large. For awhile I was complaining about how ACB and ACR had small maps, well this game would surely shut any of those complaints up. 2. There are a lot of missions in this game. Plenty of things to do. Bad
The fact that I can't think of more than 2 good things about the game is a bad sign

    1. The combat is horrible. Basically the combat is circle to counter and square to attack. Even the first assassins creed game had more than 2 buttons used for combat. Certain enemies are nearly impossible to kill because you have no clue how to fight because it is completely counter intuitive and way too far from the other games.

    2. To make matters worse, the game doesn't have enough assassination missions. The game is basically you running around butchering people in broad daylight. There have been moments where guards will just randomly start attacking you, maybe it was because I killed too many guards, I don't know because there is no indicator for this like in the other games... 3. They took out abilities in the game for no reason at all.

    Want to jog? Nope can't do that! L1 = sprint, not L1 + X
Want to kick your enemy? Nope, remember circle and square are the only 2 actions
Want to air assassinate? Nope, never opportunities to air assassinate since the game is basically a bunch of wooden houses spread far apart.
Can I leap while climbing? NOPE

    4. Quicktime events. If you played RE6 before this game, you probably never want to see quicktime events ever again. Well bad news, they are all over the game. Random wolf attacks you, QTE, fail you pretty much die. THIS IS ALL OVER THE ENTIRE GAME. 5. You have no clue what the hell is going on. I actually found that I no longer cared, Connor is a boring character with no development at all. He is basically Jack the Ripper.

    6. I liked assassins creed 2 the most because the game offered a ton of beautiful maps. Florence and Venice are great locations. Sure they aren't as big as the maps in this game, but they are more dense and full of more life. I think it was a mistake to approach the american revolution as the setting. I want to go back to the renaissance era. Summary

The game is garbage. I gave RE6 a 4/10, the fact that this is getting a 3/10 means that the game is basically unplayable. Sure RE6 had **** quicktime events, but at least the game mechanics weren't absolute **** 50% of my score is based off of the controls, and if the controls suck ass then the game is basically worthless.

Like most games, This game hits it on the nail in some areas, and falls short in others. The beginning is boring. I don't just mean the first half-hour either... Luckily, this game is long, and once you reach sequence 6 or so, the game becomes a lot more interesting. The game is at its peak at sequences 6-10, but I found the last 2 sequences disappointing. In all, the main storyline is the best we've seen in the series at times, and the worst in the series at times. One moment you're charging across a huge, epic, battlefield on your own looking to kill a Loyalist general, the next you're doing a frustrating, boring escort mission. One moment you're engaging an enemy in a gorgeous, fun, and challenging naval battle, the next you're sighing at a glitch causes 5 city criers to spawn in the exact same spot. One moment your character is in jail, scheming his escape, the next you're on a boat, with nothing to do except dreadfully boring story missions. Also, there were very few classic assassinations (something that I feel Brotherhood and Revelations lacked as well). Some of the best moments in the whole series came during assassin's creed 1 when altair was carrying out assassination missions, and I feel like this is something that could be integrated more in the modern titles. The naval battles, the hunting, the tree-climbing, and certain parts of the campaign are the best parts of the game (seriously, the naval battles are f**king awesome). The plot is good, but not great. Connor is not as likeable as past characters. He is not humble and is extremely rude to his mentor. The game builds up a great deal of doubt to whether or not the assassins are truly on the right ride of things or not, and this weighs on Connor greatly. However, Connor never truly finds the answers to the questions he is looking for. Just as I was, he seemed confused and ungrounded in his beliefs at the game's conclusion. because of this, many people like me will be unsatisfied with the resolution of Connor's story. Connor's story also comes to a rather abrupt end. Desmond's role is much more fun and engaging then before, but it is still short and sweet. The ending of the game in the modern era is.... interesting. No spoilers but Its not exactly a good ending, but I don't think it was terrible either (not like ME3 or anything). It is definitely set up for more sequels which is good (and these sequels will likely take place entirely in the modern era, which will be very interesting). I did not have problems with being chased while incognito like a lot of other reviewers, but the game is still very buggy. I could go on, but you get the point. Must have if you're a fun, strongly recommended if you're not, however, This is not the game of the year material we were all hoping for. Expand

Overall, Assassin's Creed 3 is one of the best games I have played this year. It was definitely worth the wait since the cliffhanger in second installment. The story is set during the American Revolution where one will play another Assassin named Connor. The story was significantly long but enough to say that it was very well structured and well executed especially with the historic events during the 1700s. Character development was impressive especially the main protagonist in his quest for peace and freedom. I would say out of all the three ancestors you play, Connor is the one assassin that understood his main purpose in which was to achieve peace and freedom. The game play has been moved to the next level since the combat is more effective as well as skills. I am very proud to say that this game is a major achievement to a fantastic game series. Skin this, set a trap for that, wander through lots of snow. None of which are very interesting at all tbh. The towns are non-descript, they could be from anywhere. The dialogue is crap, the story doesn't hook you at all. And will developers of games please learn that we do not want to wander for hours to do missions, it was annoying enough in Red Dead at times but this is worse. All in all this game is just another cash cow. Up to Revelations I have loved this series. The wonderful backdrops, the engaging story, the brilliant characters and the way it added a little bit more every time it came out. This feels like a massive step backwards. Expand

Connor's voice acting is very stale and cheesy at times. The worst thing about this game is that sometimes it loses fun and feels more like a chore. However, given the sheer number of things to do, and the fact that the old Hidden Blade hasn't yet lost its thrill, I would still say that AC3 is a good game. you know, i honestly can't decide if i like this game or not. I'm playing it, and sinking a lot of time into it, but I have a nagging feeling that i'm not actually enjoying myself. I'm apparently 50% through the game, though i don't know if that's story completion or a GTA style overall completion. I somehow feel directionless. The story just kind of feels like, ok, we're doing this now,you know, i honestly can't decide if i like this game or not. I'm apparently 50% through the game, though i don't know if that's story completion or a GTA style overall completion. I somehow feel directionless. The story just kind of feels like, ok, we're doing this now, it doesn't feel vital. Or it doesnt feel necessary. I often feel like if I was Conner I'd be saying screw you guys, I'm going home. I'm not doing that crap. Your explanation of why i should help you is flimsy and I'm not murdering countless people on faith.

There's too much side crap that I feel like I'm doing for no good reason. Its like the first AC. they put all those flags out there, and I'm searching and collecting them, and my girlfriend comes in and asks why I'm collecting the flags, and I couldn't give her a reason. There was no benefit, nothing gained. They fixed that in AC2, i forget what you got, but you got something. But with this one, why am i telling this guy to make me barrels? Why am I collecting the damn feathers again? Why do i want to make sure I kill each of the animal types in each hunting area? I don't friggin remember. I've been running for so long that the flies on my decaying corpse finished eating the carrot that they were dangling in front of me.

And why cant i take a leap of faith off the damn synchronizing trees? I really have to climb back down this damn thing? maybe it doesn't make sense that there's a pile of hay at the base of every tree, but dammit, I'm jumping.

And there's something about our portrayal of native american's that bothers me. The way we make these characters speak and emote is lacking something. I just don't have the connection with him that I had with ezio. Even Altair did more for me. For a while i just thought he was a dick, but at least i felt SOMETHING for him.

And the other characters. Leonardo was awesome in the last one. I don't know what it is, but the portrayal of all these American Founders comes off hokey to me.

I don't know man. I'm still gonna play it, because it is still calling to me. But I'm still very ambivalent about it. It may just be that they're making too damn many of these. Releasing them before they actually have something interesting for me to play. And that's the problem. I dig Assassin's Creed. I like the premise. I like the gameplay, and the freedom. But i haven't been allowed to miss it. I haven't been left waiting and wanting. I haven't even had a chance to play Revelations yet. For example, I'm really psyched to play Bioshock because the absence has made my heart fonder.

Ubisoft, take a break. Come back to the table refreshed. Take some time in production. And bring us a game. A good game. Not a bunch of game elements that don't entirely work together cohesively as a whole. Maybe a little deeper in the game they provide a good reason for me to be making barrels. If so my bad. No, their bad for leaving me with this crap to do and no discernible reason to do it. But if they don't have a good reason, maybe another year at the design phase would've helped them come up with one.

I'm British myself and couldn't wait to take on the relentless Redcoats and teach them a lesson in manners that apparently all Brits in the media are portrayed to have! This it would seem would be incredibly easy, every Redcoat in AC3 is simply obnoxious, now considering many army regulars were criminals or the lowest in social standing and many would have never seen a native american, a reaction for the worst would be expected, however considering that most 'Natives' sided with the British concerns me with regards to accuracy! You are repeatedly told the British are coming to take your lands, within hours if you actually watch the 15 cut scenes it takes to get you to collect a feather from a tree also bothers me, I'm certain it was colonial American expansion that worried the natives! Poor Charles Lee, he had a particularly bad war, he wanted Washington's job. history suggests he didn't get it, but to make him out in early scenes to be a lovable rogue and in later scenes to be a child prodding sycophant is pushing it, he died of a fever with his hunting hounds. Sadly inconsistencies are throughout this game, even the weaponry is incorrect, I know I'm being a nerd here but how long and how many people were studying the history for this game? The animation of loading is great though, I loved the (mostly) full loading procedure! Especially when it meant I got stabbed! It was realistic! The gameplay is ok, the free running thing is great but you hold a button and push forward, you sometimes have to press down, it looks pretty sweet though, however fall into combat and much hilarity ensues! Now I may be wrong, but I have not noticed a difficulty button, so it may be me making this combat system appalling. Press a button to parry when the screen slows down, then press kill, is not a challenging attack system! Sometimes they parry your parry and you might have to press x! The sheer cramp this failed to give my hand concerned me further! After single handedly taking on 40 Redcoats I should be jaded, not bopped the lot in exactly 80 very slow button presses! There were so many features in this game I wanted to be good, listening to, and solving frontiersmen challenges and filling my homestead, but making bloody barrels and nails isn't a trade system for an action game, give me something I can bury into Sir Howe's forehead and send us pesky Brits to the other 20% of the world they owned! If you want to have a game that has a pretty standard story that has some easy to digest history, albeit wrong, interest is better than nothing in my eyes! You can execute British troops all day in all manner of hilarious and buggy ways, double dagger to the face and leave them standing, check! Tomahawk to the shoulder and subclavian arteries! Watch him, he is going to parry you, and fantastically cliched cut scenes go for it!!! There's a lot here. Just everything seems to be ok, nothing makes you gawp at the screen or chuckle to yourself, or even make you think you achieved something beyond timing a button press! The naval battles though!! Do em, again and again, just please don't ruin Trafalgar for me as well with some end of world of witchcraft! Expand

The graphics are fairly good, the textures are absolutely terrible, though. To be honest, the graphics don't push the current generation of gaming consoles at all. The hunting in this game is pretty fun. I enjoy killing the animals with my bare hands. The story is also weak, and not engaging. My main complaint is the unfinished feel this game has. There's just something about this game that gives off an unfinished/unpolished vibe. Maybe it's because the free-running isn't smooth, or the lip syncing is off, or the combat is a Batman ripoff, or the terrible textures, or the fact that the 'stealth' in this game is atrocious. The beginning is already confusing as hell. The gameplay was terrible, especially the combat. The counter feature is completely shot, I've never had a harder time killing guards. There are so many glitches in this game that I don't know what to do. I've had endless guards spawn for fights, inability to complete missions because something isn't there that I need, and losing 100% synchronization because of a pebble I tripped over somewhere. I'm telling you, whoever is reading this, play at your own risk. The stealth factor in this game is horrible, there is nowhere to hide, and even if there is, guards can still detect you easily. There aren't any armor upgrades, and you have to do way too much upkeep at your "home base" in my opinion. Back in AC2 and Brotherhood, Ezio's side missions (which were a lot more inviting to play) increased the homestead. On top of that, money is scarce, unless you're willing to run through every god forsaken forest and pass every tree to find forts to conquer. Hunting is pretty pointless, and the animals are **** everywhere. I couldn't pass through the forest without having to fight several packs of wolves. In the end, I was so fed up with the hunting regions that I just fast travelled everywhere. The aspects of this game aren't satisfying, they just make you want to run through the sequences and finish (which is what I did). There is no incentive to spend time improving the lands or yourself, or trying on the missions, because you get so damn fed up with glitches, lack of combat, and the ultimately boring storyline. 3/4 of the game is all about bringing up the past, and it just seems like one big tutorial. You spend the first 1/3 of the game just figuring out who the hell Connor is, and the rest of the game, he's a rookie. After years of "supposed" training (that you don't go through, it's just a cutscene and suddenly he's an assassin) he still can't get **** straight. I didn't like his character. He was driven by revenge I guess, but his drive wasn't in the right places. He just seemed to bounce around with his thoughts too much, and not focus on being a kick ass assassin. Come on, Ezio wanted revenge, and he did whatever it took to improve himself. He didn't go blindly running after people. Connor just seems like a bitter, little boy. There was no part in the game where you got to bond with the character, like Ezio. I don't know about everyone else, but I felt like I was constantly waiting for a moment where I would feel connected to the game, like I did for AC2 and Brotherhood, AND Revelations (Even AC1 for that matter). It never happened. I'm clearly unhappy with this game, Ubisoft screwed up big time. I will say, I did enjoy the Desmond parts of the game, being in the different countries and all. I wish there was more Desmond involvement. One thing I liked about the AC franchise was the history. They go back in time, right? This game was so bad I preferred to be in the present. I could go on and on and on, but you get the idea. It was terrible. Like I said, **** on a disc. I can't believe I paid top dollar for it. Even the DLC didn't help. I won't spoil it, but that ending? Expected much more than I got. It really is unfortunate that they'd incorporate such a bad ending in an attempt to milk the series in the future. Don't expect anything groundbreaking.

After the inherent failure that was Revelations, Ubisoft made an ambitious but risky leap into a whole new world with Connor and the American Revolution. The story crafted around this period is a little less exciting the fighting the Pope under the Vatican, but it does present opportunities to take part in events and meet characters that no other game does. The plot itself is a little shaky, with various holes in the storytelling, however it still has the intricate Ubisoft feel and is told magnificently throughout the game, and yet again leaves us with many questions at the end of the game. The game-play itself has changed, in some ways for the worst and in some ways for the better. The game is more fluid and has a better constructed combat than before, but the linear missions take away the freedom we had in previous Assassin's Creed titles, which is disappointing. The expansive world created for the game is not only breathtaking but alive as well, which means there will always be more to do, and the side missions have gotten even better. The game is plagued by several irritating bugs, which can get in the way of game-play experience, but hopefully future patches will correct this. To conclude, both Assassin's Creed and non-Assassin's Creed fans will love this game, but it is not the 'next-gen' title Ubisoft hyped it up to be. Expand

EWWW! WOW!" it was not a perfect game but it was very entertaining. Then it was time for Assassin's Creed 2, and oh my it was fabulous! it fixed most of the problems in AC1 and the setting was really interesting, The Renaissance...Beautiful architecture, interesting characters and this time actually fun side missions!
Let's get to the point already, Assassins Creed 3 has been out now for months and after playing it for 51 hours and 23 minutes i can safely say my opinion about it... You all know the setting already in this game which is the American revolutionary war....Which is not that interesting.... It was the first let down for me, Boston and New York are not just really beautiful places unlike Florence and Rome were in the previous games, the buildings are not very tall and it makes climbing really boring when there's like 100 houses after another which look exactly the same.... well i wish you luck staying on rooftops because of the guards on the rooftops... i mean WHY is there so many of them???! You are destroying the element that got me interested in AC years ago! So they almost force you to stay on the ground level all the time. The story is pretty annoying, mainly because of the protagonist, Ratonhaketon AKA Connor Kenway..He is annoying, childish, naive and the list goes on... Oh and you will be hearing a lot of "What would you have me do?" Lines from Connor...and that really tells you about the level of the dialogue. Disappointment after another....The soundtrack= No more Jesper Kyd with his ambient music, now it's just movie music you hear everywhere, it just doesn't stand out! And oh the BUGS, it almost literally drove me insane especially during missions where you have to achieve perfect sync... I seriously wish i could recommend this to you AC fans, but i just can't..... this was a huge game of let downs and it is a disgrace to previous AC games, i mean it.
Oh and did i tell you about the horrible, anticlimax ending? See for yourselves...

First of all this game has glitches. Not ridiculous glitches like some other mentioned here but glitches that should not exist in such a game. For example. In the cut scenes, subtitles appear and the person is actually talking, but his mouth is not moving. Also,I have experienced a lot of frame rate issues.FPS is ok but only until you reach an area with a lot of people or a lot of objects. Those are the issues I have experienced thus far.Now to the pros. This game just does not feel as boring as AC Brotherhood and (possibly) AC Revelations.AC Brotherhood in my opinion was a copy of AC II,but well,a lot worse.Revelations felt, once again, generic. This game though, feels interesting, fresh.Of course, the story telling in all previous games is better and Connor is not as like able as Ezio BUT,when all other games failed(with the exception of ACII)this game succeded. If you are a lazy person then do not play game like this, where you have a lot of story telling and a lot of cut scenes. The first couple of hours in the game(make it one hour)you will spend doing things such as climbing and the game will let you familiarize yourself with the controls, before you get into the game.I haven't used the multiplayer feature yet so I cannot say anything about that. Please,PLEASE do not fully take into consideration the negative reviews, which, most of the time, are from people who expect way too much from one game.Of course,it is not as good as ACII and it does have some issues, but it deserves your 45-60 pounds because of the hundreds of games out there, this one is definitely worth it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I would have given a better score, but am a bit disappointed in this title. It was one if the highly anticipated games for 2012. The graphics are the highest point for me. The storyline lacks, when compared to the other titles in this franchise. We all know the storyline of the assassins verses the Templars. But when I discovered the plot twist of the assassin and the lead Templar in this title, working together. I put my controller down, ejected the game from my ps3 console. That is exactly how disappointed I was. Not to mention the horrible control of naval vessels for naval warfare. I find it ridiculous that ubisoft didn't take enough time to develope this, and made a joke to the assassins creed series. Expand

AC3 is largely disappointing. There's no improvement over previous iterations in any way that matters and it, in fact, fails where prior games didn't. To start, the first six sequences are literally a drawn out and exceedingly padded tutorial. Every minute game mechanic gets its own mission. It's unforgivably stupid, particularly given that game plays exactly like previous AC games inAC3 is largely disappointing. To start, the first six sequences are literally a drawn out and exceedingly padded tutorial. Every minute game mechanic gets its own mission. It's unforgivably stupid, particularly given that game plays exactly like previous AC games in every regard and that the mechanics are incredibly simple to begin with. I can't imagine ever wanting to play through this game again simply due to that. The game is only twelve sequences long and five of them are tutorials. It's ridiculously blatant padding. Combat is exactly the same in most regards though you're even more powerful that previous games. It's prettier but that's the most that can be said for it. There is absolutely no reason to ever buy new weapons as your base set can handle every foe in the game with ease. Like the entirety of the game economy, it's pointless and cosmetic time wasting that in no way effects the game. Equally superfluous is the Assassin mechanic taken from Brotherhood. Not once ever in the game will you need to use it expect when the game forces you to. That brings me to the biggest gripe: the missions. They are the least imaginative and most frustratingly rote main missions since the first AC. What game designer in their right mind thinks eavesdropping is a fun and interesting mechanic. Worse, there are missions that require it along with other requisites. Given that there is no real stealth mechanic and the checkpoint system is senseless you will be forced to listen to same conversation a lot. And about the stealth mechanics? Exactly the same as previous games but now you can lean around corners. "Stealth" still only involves hopping from cover to cover as opposed to, you know, being stealthy? In this day and age the mechanic is so dated it's an insult. It's incredibly jarring to be hiding then try to move to the next cover and Connor pops out and walks around like he's taking a Sunday stroll. Also, the main missions are so scripted it removes all player agency to a ridiculous degree. What's the point of a sandbox game where you can't apply creativity and the supplied tools to the task? Chasing someone? Don't bother doing anything other than what the game tells you. You'll start over. Catch up with your target prior to the subscribed time? Don't bother. He's invulnerable until the game says so. Don't bother thinking, just go from point A to point B like the game tells you to. The vast majority if the main missions are incredibly constricted like this, not to mention uncreative and dull. Many are outright misleading. Don't listen to NPCs when they tell how to order your men in the major battles. You'll get overwhelmed. Just run back and forth like a fool giving the order to fire as soon as able and your fine. That's just the game designers talking to you through an NPC trying to give the impression they put a lot more thought into they did. The naval battles on the other hand are quite fun. They are also the only reason to bother with tedium of the incredibly clunky convoy mechanics. The ship upgrades are fairly expensive and, unlike everything else in the game that you buy, they actually effect gameplay. Everything else you do to upgrade the homestead is cosmetic and you'll have to slog through incredibly bad designed menus to do it. All the menus are horrible actually. Like previous games you can instantly look at the database entry for historic tidbits. You'll quickly tire if that though as you end up in a giant nested hierarchy that requires you to back out of all of it to get back to the game. Your weapon menu? There's a minor load every time you use it. Want to use any of your many tools? Same menu and you have to wonkily scroll through and ever growing list to even switch through staple things like whistling for your horse. In other words they somehow found a way to make the controls more clunky that prior games. Not everything is bad. The world is pretty though the cities naturally lack the verticality of prior games. It's not even that everything is bad, it's just more of the same. Same dodgy stealth. Same bizarre AI that can't detect you in a two foot bush but can spot you from miles away otherwise. Same lack of meaningful economy. Same senselessly placed guards hanging out on rooftops when no guards ever historically did that. Same guards that climb as well as you. What's so special about your abilities if even lowly militia can do everything you can? Same combat rhythm with the same trope of certain guards needing certain counters to hurt them. There's no step forward here like Ubisoft claimed. The mechanics have dated for years and they just put shinier window dressing on them. So if you liked the old games you'll likely enjoy this one. For me, I too often felt like a pawn running from one cutscene to the next. Expand

I haven't been more excited for an Assassin's Creed game since Brotherhood, and this one is no let down. In fact, it is the best in the series for many reasons, number one being the complete overhaul of the engine and controls. It is as fresh as AC2, and is also miles ahead in terms of story, character depth, and game play quality. Despite many reviews citing the glitches in this game (there are a few, but none that completely ruin the experience), I can't seem to run into any of the worst ones. I did pick this up day one, so it is possible these reviews are pre-patch, which is already an issue when trying to determine your purchase. Overall, I give it a 9.5. The graphics are fantastic, the combat (once you get used to it) is very fluid, if not sometimes frustrating when you fail to time your counters and attacks properly, and the story is very well written, down to the normal NPC citizen dialog. The only issue I really seem to have is not being to put this game down. It is not a perfect 10 as there are some glitches that I found a bit annoying when they popped up, and only one really big break on a fort attack where the entire regiment disappeared forcing me to come back later in the story to complete, but these were few and far between in my game. So given the amount of fun I have had with this, I can not honestly rate it any lower. Expand

The game starts off really slow you don't play as Connor for 3-4hrs and you get to him at Sequence 3 or 4. There are glitches everywhere in this game! When i was in the lake near the Homestead i saw Achilles' cane floating above the sunken ship. What pissed me off with the game play was that...it just sucked. The whole "press O" to do a counter or break defense i couldn't stand it and a lot of times it different work. Ubisoft should've left the controls the way they originally were. I thought the Revoluntionary War was going to have a huge part in this game, but it doesn't to the point where you forget that there's even a war going on. What was the purpose of having that as a trailer? There are a couple lags where someone is talking, but their lips aren't moving. Stealth is horrible. When a guard detects you, you hide, and of course they come over to investigate, instead of going away right way they stand there for forever. Horse riding sucks, the horses run really slow (they were way faster in the previous ones) and when you get shot at the horses fall over. In my opinion its faster to get to places on foot. What's the point of recruiting assassin's? They're completely useless and i hate the way of getting them. You have to do 3 missions just to get them and for third mission the icon DOES NOT appear on the map. You have to go look for them yourself which is a pain in the ass. Viewpoints.....doesn't uncover a huge chung like it did in previous games and even when you do all VP's the map still isn't fully uncovered! Notoriety....you can have NO notoriety and then out of nowhere guards attack you for NO REASON! It's hard to escape them because there are guards on every corner. I should'nt have to walk/run down the street worrying if guards are going to attack me or not. If you're into getting Full Syncs its like almost impossible to get them in this game. One for example: in the last sequence you're chasing Charles Lee and their optional objective is "Stay under 50m" from him. IMPOSSIBLE! How can i do that when the guards, who are blocking you from catching him, shoot an explosive barrel that makes you fall over? Or if you don't get hit by the blast the guards will just push you down and Connor takes forever to get back up. The story is ok, Connor is a bore and is too serious all the time and i really wanted to like him, but i kind of don't. Oh yeah and sometimes Connor acts like he can't climp up a damn ledge. I personally say don't listen to G4 or whoever that are giving this game a 10/10 because it definitely is not. 5/10 Expand

as is ubisofts want, the control of the character drastically failed towards the end of the game, the cutscene quality diminished, and the over all interaction of the game failed. the programmers need to get their act together and actually properly finish a game instead of halfassing it just to get it onto shelves.

In Assasin's Creed III, you are someone who looks lile a drug dealer with something to hide. Despite that, you seem to be in the past as everyone looks like they're in the 1700s, except for you, of course. The gameplay is ridiculously boring and I claim this as the most overrated game of 2012.

The Assassin’s Creed formula of fighting and parkour is starting to get old, even with the ability to climb trees now. Maybe it’s the repetitiveness of the series, or maybe it’s just less interesting to toss crates of tea into the harbour than to hunt and kill corrupt bishops.

This review is getting long-winded so let's wrap it up. Assassin's Creed III is the biggest and most ambitious Assassin's Creed title yet, but a few missteps leaves it short of being the series' best. In spite of my excessive nitpicking, Assassin's Creed III is great game and a must-have for any Assassin's fan.

A great continuation of the Assassin's Creed series because of the strong visuals, gameplay and story. Though it must be said that the story gets somewhat boring towards the end, which leaves a sour taste.
