PSM3 Magazine UKThe real genius behind SNATWE comes in the creation of your battleunits. [July 2008, p.78]
-
It has major shortcomings in plot, graphics and linearity, but the good points help to overcome the flaws. That said, it's not a strategy RPG for someone new to the genre; while it's a fair bit easier than even Disgaea, Soul Nomad has very little tutorial on how to use its varied systems, and even when using the manual as a guide, if you aren't solid on how this type of game works, it's very easy to get lost.
-
If you loved sinking hundred of hours into earlier NIS strategy-RPGs, you’ll still find plenty to enjoy in Soul Nomad. If, however, you’re new to the genre, we recommend picking up "Disgaea" instead. While Soul Nomad has its entertaining moments, it doesn’t quite meet the bar the previous games have set.
-
PSM MagazineIf you can get used to the emphasis on room construction (over in-combat strategizing), you'll have fun with Soul Nomad. [Nov 2007, p.88]
-
Official Playstation 2 Magazine UKSoul Nomad is no more "tactical" than a game of mouse trap. [June 2008, p.69]
-
Soul Nomad & The World Eaters may be a disappointment to a minority of fans, being Nippon Ichi’s most mainstream release.
-
For a game so rich in character and brimming with originality, there's simply not enough strength or depth here to compete with the likes of Disgaea or Makai Kingdom.
-
With the powerful spirit Gig trapped in your body you must must use him more than he uses you if you want to stand a chance to save the world. This latest RPG from Nippon Ichi demands some invested time and effort from the player, with a complex gameplay that erects an unnecessarily high level of entry. But a solid cast of characters and plenty of units to build your army from makes this a worthwhile title nonetheless.

Hardcore GamerSoul Nomad is a surprisingly radical departure from type for NIS, and it's largely successful. It's just more frustrating than it needs to be. [Oct 2007, p.57]
-
Play MagazineStrategy fans who are hungry for a change of pace will appreciate Soul Nomad's many innovations, but be forewarned--they come wrapped in a pretty lousy game. [Oct 2007, p.82]
-
Soul Nomad appeared to have a lot going for it. The gameplay was interesting and fairly different from the norm, and the story seemed to have promise. But it isn’t long before you realize that the game isn’t going anywhere.
-
This game is not fun, and should be played by no one on this planet. Period.
-
This game is not for the faint of heart and should be reserved for those that enjoy repetitive battles and watching badly built sprites bumble across their television screen.
-
The more discerning gamer will find themselves assailed by Soul Nomad & The World Eaters' obnoxious characters and confounded by clumsy menus and insufficient in-game tutorials.
-
Edge MagazineUnderneath these niggles and inconsistencies lies the kernel of a solid and interesting game that could blossom if pursued in a future release. [June 2008, p.96]
-
Games Master UKWhat it lacks in terms of presentation it makes up in detail. RPG fans only. [June 2008, p.80]
