  1. Bullfrog took on the near-impossible task of transforming a dedicated online game into a satisfying experience for the not-yet-online Playstation2, and completed it brilliantly.
  2. Its mists, textures, particle blood sprays and lighting make it the best-looking shooter on the PlayStation 2, and maybe even a competitor for best-looking overall game.

Quake III Revolution’s frantic combat is wicked fast and packed with addictive, exciting action that heavily favors quick reflexes and itchy trigger fingers over deep strategies.

All of this as well as crisp, colourful graphics and clean, clear entertaining sound make it the definite BEST first person shooter to come out on PS2 so far.

Looks gorgeous, handles sweetly and is ‘totally bitchin’ when played against other like-minded, bloodthirsty players – there must be some price to pay amongst all this triumph.
  6. It’s wickedly fast, good-looking, and mean – it’s the muscle car of corridor shooters. But where’s the online support?

The framerate is blazingly fast, even in four-player splitscreen, and there are tons of new levels, new weapons and new characters -- that actually play differently -- to frag your friends with...This is one awesome FPS.

If you're itching to have three friends over to play until the early morning hours, Quake III is the best multiplayer game on the PS2. I highly recommend it.
  10. If you take the time and play this game, without letting your bias towards the PC/online version get in the way (as I almost did), I think you'll find that it's a great game overall.

Everything you could hope for in a Quake game is present and correct, with two glaring exceptions - mouse/keyboard control, and on-line play.

On the whole, there's really nothing here compelling enough to attract owners of the PC and Dreamcast versions.
  13. Even with the additions and tweaks made to the single-player game, anyone familiar with other versions of the game will find Quake III Revolution to be rather limited.

A pleasant surprise - but it's still disappointing the game doesn't contain options for the future, when Sony introduce a modem and take the PS2 online.
  15. A visceral and exceptionally well-done PS2 FPS that gets by as long as you haven't played it online.
  16. While the PlayStation 2 version lacks many of the options available in its PC and even Dreamcast counterparts, the same adrenaline-filled action can be found.
  17. It doesn't offer anything that excites me over the other versions except for a few new arenas and weapons, but do those small extras warrant a purchase? Of course not.

It is the only title that still feels playable. Many many drunken nights with friends have passed trying to beat the campaign with all characters on Nightmare.

The controller settings can be modified in settings to mimic gameplay of the best current shooters. Taking auto-centre off, and altering sensitivity to 80, 120, 80 in that order. There's is also a pre-set button layout for bumper triggers and better analogie set up

Responsive, creative, timeless gameplay, truly feels like a modern shooter with older graphics.

Drinking game - Nightmare difficulty, Team deathmatch. You and one friend vs 5 enemies. Drink every death. Enjoy.

BTW Graphics card alone to get high end performance from Quake 3 and 4 was more than a PS2 and this game in 2007. This port is fantastic and fast for a PS2 shooter. Full Review »
