This year, NBA Live falls just short of continuing its dynasty as the best basketball game around. [Nov 2006, p.73]

The deep Dynasty mode is the only feature worth the price of admission. The day-to-day tasks are organized better than NBA 2K7’s Association mode, and new features like the NBA rumors and managing assistants give sports fans a greater sense of control.

A slick and entertaining basketball sim, but then again so was last year's. [Dec 2006, p.100]
  4. Live 07 won't blow your mind, as many of the changes from last year are of limited value, but it's certainly worth a look if you like your basketball games a little up-tempo.

NBA Live 07 is a lot like its cover athlete, Tracy McGrady: It's capable of some stunning moves, worthy of the highlight reels, but is a little too offensive-minded and selfish. It's got a lot of skill, but doesn't do enough to get to the playoffs.
  6. The bottom line is that NBA Live 07 is a pretty darned good hoops sim - once you adjust the wonky default sliders. Without it, the shooting doesn't give an inch, no matter how well you time your release.
  7. A solid game of basketball, but not one worth your money if you have Live 06.
  8. While NBA Live 07 is a generally decent sports game with near-average replayability, it doesn’t “capture” anything. You’ll be amused but not engrossed. It’s an update to last year’s game, not a sequel.
  9. A severe disappointment to fans of the genre. While EA has added many of the features that were missing from last year’s offering, there are still too many issues that need to be ironed out, including the animations, the flow, the online gameplay, and the challenge.

But this year EA slapped handcuffs on gamers trying to shoot over 50 percent from the field. [Dec. 2006, p.126]

The game is full of bugs and glitches that make it almost impossible to play, and the few additions with the X-Factor and "redefined" Freestyle Superstar controls don't make enough impact on the game to make it playable or enjoyable.

The heavier focus on animations makes the controls feel sticky - press for a pass, a rebound or a block and it might not happen. [Nov 2006, p.103]

I really find the gameplay hard but die-hard basketball fans would love this game.

Players do get hurt, tired, injured, and this stuff happens in everyday life, and you have to account for it. College guys usually average about 30 minutes a game, and players in the pros average about 35-38, with some going 40, but not all. It's because coaches like players playing with close to full energy, and tired players can slow down the game and they may risk injury. This accounts for pace, and you can adjust the sliders. The only goofy thing I find are that the dunk, layup, and shoot buttons are 3 different buttons, but if you play it long enough, you get used to it, like learning another language, but then you get the grasp of it. It's still the same great style, fast paced, and allows hard-core game players to set realistic rotations and use set plays, matchup, or so forth. Good if you're a hardcore fan....if not, you just might be lost in the shuffle." I agree - you get used to the gameplay, and after a while, it's actually quite fun. I enjoy playing this game.
