Games Master UKBeneath that cutesy exterior lurks a game that's superior to "Virtua Tennis." Believe it. [June 2007, p.72]
-
Hardcore GamerIf you like tennis games and you have a Playstation 2, it belongs in your gaming library. [July 2007, p.62]
-
Play MagazineBottom line, as with all the Hot Shots games (I have had enough golf though, thanks for the change Sony) Hots Shots Tennis is big on fun, end of story. [July 2007, p.63]
-
Game InformerThe gameplay mechanic itself is ultra smooth and simple, yet satisfying even after hours of play. [July 2007, p.99]
-
Thanks to its depth and ease of use, it can be greatly enjoyed even by folks who aren’t usually into tennis games, as it’s got an easy learn curve and even includes a training mode that concisely explains things for players who might feel overwhelmed by the intricacies of the game.
-
It’s a solid if shallow title that lacks in content and difficulty but has a really well implemented engine.
-
Playstation Official Magazine UKDespite the uber-cute looks, Everybody's Tennis isn't a game that wants to hold your hand, and that only adds to its considerable charm. [May 2007, p.119]
-
AceGamezAlmost an amazing game; with a little more variety and a few extra game modes, this would have been a real classic. However, for those of you looking for a very entertaining arcade game that's great fun alone or with a friend, this comes highly recommended.
-
Official Playstation 2 Magazine UKMaintain's the "Everybody's" good name by being a deceptively brilliant sports sim that constantly surprises and challenges. [May 2007, p.78]
-
A sports game with a sense of fun and, perhaps crucially, provides a great series of single player matches to work through. Most notably of all though is the fact that it’s made its way into our pile of games to be dug out at parties, alongside "SingStar."
-
PSM MagazineThoroughly enjoyable. [Aug 2007, p.84]
-
A must play for anyone who likes tennis games. Hot Shots Tennis has done for this sport the same things it did for golf – bring out the essence of the sport and leave everything else behind.
-
Hot Shots Tennis is as fun and challenging as you want it to be.
-
It’s not going to blow anyone away with the features, but Hot Shots fans should definitely check it out along with fans of tennis games in general.
-
Hot Shots brings its fantastic gameplay and cutesy characters to the tennis court. We would have liked more character customization, but the fun factor does not disappoint.
-
Overall, Hot Shots Tennis does the job just fine for someone looking for a cheerful tennis game on the PS2. It doesn’t do anything exceptionally well, but is entertaining as long as you aren’t expecting anything deep.
-
The title is asking its simple gameplay to be the sole reason you keep playing. You can't customize your character's appearance or stats, so it's going to come down to you beating the bejesus out of everyone in an attempt to unlock some umpires you're never going to use. Then, the game'll be over.
-
With the three different ways to play Hot Shots Tennis, including single player challenge mode, the co-op versus mode, and a training mode for those of us that need that extra little bit, the game brings the fun to the PS2.
-
PSM3 Magazine UKCute, accessible and fun, but lacking oomph. [May 2007, p.78]
-
A spunky game with enough depth to make things interesting, yet it still retains a goofy arcade charm.
-
The Hot Shots series proves once again that it can serve up addictive, accessible gameplay with its first foray into the realm of tennis. This simple approach is fine, but the lack of modes, online multiplayer, and character customization leave Hot Shots Tennis stuck in the last generation of expectations.
