Creating a gamer's game through and through, Traveller's Tales has delivered a 60 fps cartoon epic without sacrificing expanse, dwarfing boss encounters or vivid effects by skillfully balancing model and environment integrity with performance. [Oct 2004, p.69]
  2. Whoever got the idea that being good was bad and that being bad was good wasn't as smart as the person who thought being good and bad at the same time was where it's at.

Splendid stage architecture, superb puzzle planning, and, yes, even the odd snide remark give it way more charm than most competitors. Despite limited replay value and slight conceptual deja vu, the title will entertain all age groups.
  4. Crash’s current developer Traveller’s Tales does the series great justice by adding new elements like free-roaming environment and three very noticeable new gameplay mechanics, but all in all, it’s the evolved sense of humor that really offers Crash a new hope.
  5. I was pleasantly surprised by what I found here. When it wasn't kicking my head in for little to no reason, Twinsanity's a fun and funny game that's well worth a few hours of your time.
  6. I liked it a lot without being blown away by it, and it's the extra flavour that kept me going more than anything.

Publisher Vivendi Universal and developer Traveller's Tales have infused so much humor and likeability into the game that you will literally laugh out loud. You'll look forward to defeating each boss not just because you're that much closer to beating the game, but to witness some of the best in-game dialogue and funniest voice acting around.
  8. Something different for the PS2 collection in that it’s a well executed platform game with a lot of varied gameplay.
  9. Great fun for our gaming youth and a humorous piece of nostalgia for veterans keen to spank their bandicoots, one last time.
  10. A decent game which is heavily pulled down by the lack of save points.
  11. It's a little rough around the edges, and it doesn't break new ground for 3D platformers, but it gives the series the shot in the arm that Wrath of Cortex failed to, and what it does, it does pretty well.
  12. A small section of gamers could well find Crash: Twin Sanity not quite offering enough new ideas to please but the majority will probably find this the perfect mix of all that is best with the platforming/action genre, especially the diversity in graphic sets, which must be applauded, along with the mesmerising sound effects and in game animations that move the game along!

I'm not sure this game will give him that dimension that he needs to compete in the mascot-rich, gaming universe but it's a spin jump in the right direction.
  14. The gameplay variation is there for all to see, and when it hits the mark it - believe it or not - is every bit as enjoyable as the very best the genre has to offer, with some true high points to look back on.
  15. Far from fresh or innovative, it's still a fun title to keep the kids happy or blow a rainy day playing.
  16. It's double the insanity for all you psychopath-loving gamers out there, but it's half the fun for gamers.
  17. Somehow, flubbing the gameplay itself surprises me; it's like showing up to a party and finding that the snack bar consists of really butt-kicking salsa and a bowl of live lobsters to dunk into it.

If you are looking for a reason to throw your Playstation 2 against a wall, I would recommend this game. If you are a fan of the series, maybe I am missing something.
  19. The unforgiving nature of the game and the constant restarts of certain areas are bad enough but add the constant unskippable cutscenes that you are forced to watch in full every time you die just tips it over the edge for me.

Though the game looks and controls well, levels appear to be designed to kill the player in as many cheap ways as possible. [Dec 2004, p.78]
  21. The puzzles are clever and the variety is terrific, but it can be too tough and frustrating, particularly for the young audience the game would otherwise appeal to.
  22. The development team should perhaps be reminded that players tend to take it personally when their progress is halted by poor design.

A good platformer buoyed by some interesting gameplay concepts and hindered by certain design flaws.
  24. The pinpoint difficulty of the proceedings also limits the game’s appeal to either small children that will play anything or hardcore “Crash” fans from the PSOne era.

While it pains me to say this, maybe Crash should make like the entire cast of "Blossom" and disappear. [Nov 2004, p.146]
  26. All the ingredients for a nice simple and playable game are here, it’s just that carelessness and an unpolished roughness drags the game down to mediocre levels.
  27. It doesn't do anything we've never seen before, but what it does do is usually done well.
  28. A decent game and offers a few neat tweaks to its classic formula, but in general does very little to break the mold of its predecessors.
  29. It is definitely the best Crash-starring game to come along in a long, long while, but in comparison to today’s top platformers Crash Twinsanity can’t compete in any way, shape, or form.

A bummer - it's a tragic tale of missed opportunities, as a funny, engaging platformer shines through the me-too muck. [Nov 2004, p.124]
  31. Basically more of the same, albeit with a little more freedom to roam.
  32. All a bit pointless, really. We've no love for something as simple as this while Ratchet and Jak just get increasingly complex. Let Crash die with some dignity. [PSM2]
  33. While seasoned gamers will be turned off by the game's countless cheap deaths, bad controls, inept camera and uninspired gameplay, Crash rookies might find something to like.

This game rocks the party like it's 1996 for all the wrong reasons. It's a PSone game with sharper graphics.

The final levels positively encourage you to achieve zen-like levels of concentration as you determinedly edge your way carefully through without losing a life because failure means having to play it all again and the rage meter bubbling over.
  36. Completely and utterly relentless...It's totally unforgiving... For devotees and masochists only.

Funny writing (courtesy of an ex-"Ren & Stimpy" scribe) can't save this uninspired rehash of antiquated Crash antics with lackluster visuals. [Dec 2004, p.170]
  38. Full completion of the game takes time, and whilst there are some nice extras on the DVD to unlock, you can't get around the fact that it's time that could be spent doing something far, far better.

Crash TwinSanity is a great platformer game. It may not be in the same league as the PlayStation Naughty Dog Crash titles but Traveller'sCrash TwinSanity is a great platformer game. It may not be in the same league as the PlayStation Naughty Dog Crash titles but Traveller's Tales Oxford has a good stab at making a different Crash game. The game follows on from Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex where 2 new antagonists known as the Evil Twins want to destroy the world along with Crash and Cortex. Cortex? Unlike the last game, Cortex is now an allie to Crash and the two become comedic pals and swore to stop the Evil Twin's plan. The game play is similar to previous Crash titles but instead of selecting levels from a warp room, Crash TwinSanity features a 3D free roaming environment where you progress through a series of 4 world hubs and complete levels. The platforming element is similar to previous Crash games but now coloured gems (which are found dotted around each level) unlock Artwork in the Extra's menu and Crystals are used to power Cortex's teleporting machine later in the game. Obstacles such as the TNT and Nitro crates return and the usual smashable crates such as ? mark and arrow bouncy crates return. You will also encounter flying penguins (!), Tribesmen and other enemy types. TT Oxford also do a good job of implanting some of Crash's enemies from previous games into the game like Dingodile and N. Tropy and even some make a hilarious cameo at the start of the game. Some of Crash's past enemies and new enemies even make up for some great boss battles. The tone of this game is different from previous Crash games in which TT Oxford have created a funny Crash adventure. There are some funny pieces of dialog and the plot is good as well although it does lose it later on in the game. Cortex plays second fiddle to Crash as his right hand helper and this is implanted into the game play for some of the levels. Crash can use Cortex to double spin, use him as a mallet to break unbreakable crates and throw him over gaps so that he can use his gun to activate switches for bridges to help you across a gap. Crash and Cortex also at one point have a bit of a fight and you control them (while their fighting!) through a cave and avoid obstacles (similar to the ball stages in Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex). Some levels require Crash to clear a path, free of hazards for Cortex who gets chased by something. There are also a few levels where you get to play as Cortex and use his blaster to shoot your way through his sections which are nice and theres a level where you play as Cortex's Niece, Nina Cortex where she can latch onto rings, Spider-man style to climb rooftops with her bionic hands. The graphics are quite nice and colourful despite a few graphical issues and glitches and the music is awesome. The games cutscenes which despite pointless at times can pop up a few comical moments and this game does do something different for the Crash series. However, I don't like the personality changes of the two main characters Crash and Cortex: Crash just looks and acts dumb and Cortex acts like a coward rather than the dark antagonist he used to be in the PlayStation games. Also, at some points of the game, there are few checkpoints and this can become annoying, particularly at one point of the game (which I won't spoil). Crash TwinSanity is a interesting Crash game which every Crash fan should like. Full Review »
