    The comparison is unavoidable, as it's clearly a direct reference and shares the same structure, but I'm honestly liking it more than Left 4 Dead.

    Cant understand all that 0 reviews so far. that game is insane! i think the most ppl dont play on very hard and with friends - this degree of difficulty and higher are a pain in the a.. . and u cant play it without a 4 player mate team. its way better and harder than l4d2. the gameplay and hub is stolen from Division 1/2 but its ok.

    Giving it a 10 to counter the Steam trolls review bombing the game. It probably deserves an 8 in my opinion. Great game so far and a blast in coop. Great graphics and truly impressive hordes. It feels like a natural evolution of the Left 4 Dead series with XP and progression. I love how using the guns you like leads to upgrades for those very guns which tailors the game to your playstyle.

    World war z is a wild game in a good sense of the word.Board a good coop game,I did not play.Everything is here for a good time.Multiplayer top guns a lot.The graphics and music of course harcout,but it's not peshay enjoy the game.In General I advise everyone!

    There have been many games trying to revive the Left for Dead franchise and I think this is the closest someone has come.

    It reminds me of Left 4 Dead but with character progression, weapon leveling and adding russian and asian characters, which is always nice

    Great Co-Op zombie shooter it's the closest thing to left 4 dead 2,
    overall i really recommend this game if you are into zombie shooters, the game has online co-op campaign but you can also play the campaign offline, the multiplayer is quite intresting there are alot of different game modes.

    This is the best coop game since LFD!!! Play with your friends on at least 4 stars difficulty for true experience! huge maps, great challenge (on 4 stars), supportive narrative, beautiful characters, deep and useful progression and upgrades system, massive replayability, best gunfire experience ever, millions of zombies

    Truly an amazing game! The dialogue is hilarious it can be random and on different difficulties provide different speech, memorable characters who have interesting story lines. TONS of replay-ability!!! This isn't a new L4D and this has its own unique spin on the zombie world. People who rate this 0 are giving the game 0 chance. Remember when L4D came out, it was rather bare, not a lot ofTruly an amazing game!     WoW! Cool game! I got it free from epic store! It's basically a 3rd person clone of l4d2 but it does have it's own original stuff too!
    I love how the zombies scream like in the movie, really makes you feel like a rush is coming!
    It's nice for something new, I played a lot of Left for Dead!
    Thanks epic for this cool freebie hopefully see you guys online so we can coop! :D

    Fantastic Co-OP Zombie Shooter, and a 3rd person shooter at that! Very unusual in western markets! Its super engaging with great level up mechanics and randomized factors on each level. I strongly recommend this game for fans of zombie shooters or even 3rd person shooters in general.

    The real successor to the Left for Dead series, World War Z hits the fun notes, massive hordes of Zombies and a lot of mindless pew pew. The game attempts to inject the same teamwork like L4D, and it does so credibly. Though like any game, the hardcore gamers can solo the game. A great game and a fun romp. Just don't think too deep into the simple mechanics.

    The game leaves only positive emotions. The picture is visually pleasant, the game has no lags and freezes, game characters move naturally, easily and pleasantly.

    Of the minuses is a small amount of Pve missions, but there are difficulties so that you can play for weeks.

    I hope the developers will actively support the game by releasing external skins for real money and free add-ons.

    If you like PvE L4D, then this game is really is for you. A very solid PvE coop zombie shooter with a lot of customizations and leveling. There are plenty of players as it is crossplay between consoles and PC. I don't recommend PvP as it is pretty imbalance but still offer a good laugh as you see campers getting eaten alive by the horde.

    This game seems like L4D, only more epic and exiting. I have a good time in the game with friends, It's really fun. I hope at an early date devs will add more maps and will develop this project.

    Ok, let's start this is a very well balanced game with good optimization on PC episodes are somewhat short but very fun the other online games need some work.

    The Zombies are super smart, and the amount of zombies is crazy as well as the variety of different types of zombies is excellent.

    Only thing I don't like is the fact that is that it's on the Epic games store and not steam.

    This game is pretty good. It's looks like L4D but better. PvE levels are awesome, PvP, as for me, badly balanced. I hope that this game will have few patches and DLCs with new content and better PvP modes.

    First time on metacritic. Played all game through and love it! I don't personally understand on negative reviews, some of them just because of EGS or because it's not like L4D, and so? Nice characters, PVE gameplay, well-designed levels.

But when I said that it's simple I cheated a bit - because it's true only on low level of difficulty, you can just switch off your brain, run and shoot andFast, simple*, tons of zombies - ideal game for co-op fun with friends if you like L4D style! Modern graphics, beautiful levels (Japan one love), swarms of zombies are mindblowing (especially when you see them for the first time). But when I said that it's simple I cheated a bit - because it's true only on low level of difficulty, you can just switch off your brain, run and shoot and you'll win. But on higher levels it'll be not enough, you'll need pumped perks, weapons (yes, there is a progression system), wisely chosen classed in your 4-player team (yes, there are several different classes with different gameplay styles which should be combined in your squad) and you need to play as a Team to beat all enemies or you'll die very quick. So replayability is very high and if you are tired of PvE Co-op - just try PvP (hope devs will add battle royal mode eventually).… Expand

    I can't disagree with people who compare this game with L4D series, and it`s quite nice for me. I like the L4D character personalization better, but WWZ offers perks, classes, enjoyable defense tactics, much more guns and gun mods. And much much much much more zombies. Looking forward to more DLC content.

Huge crowds of zombies that were in the film, a large list of weapons, 4 different locations: New York, Moscow, Jerusalem and Tokyo.     AI is dumb, especially the bots playing with you. Cannot rely on them at all. They often block your sight and get shot immediatly.
    Not enough maps. I wish I could pay to get more. So far the only DLCs you can buy are extra weapons I don't care about.

    Overall it's a bit less casual than L4D2 because of the progression (maybe a bit more like Payday). The game is enjoyable and I highly recommend it.    … Expand

    I believe people gave negative reviews because it is a lot like the Left For Dead games. IT IS. This is a strength. They took that franchise and added their own twist. I also think there is a lot of mis-directed Epic hatred. As if Steam had player's and developers best interests at heart and    I stopped playing the Division 2 to play this game. Why?     Then I got the game but could not play it because of the black bars on my ultrawide monitor. As I waited for a few days for the devs to fix it, I decided to look into the disassembled code of the game, and I made a mod to enable ultrawide support.
    So I got into it. The game was more like The Division than Left 4 Dead - in its the third-person perspective, the detailed, vast and gorgeous levels, and the object interactions. But it does not need to be compared to anything. It's a unique game primarily because of the horde mechanic, where - as you probably know already - hundreds of moving zombies constantly appear on your screen, climb over each other, forming live ladders, or just jumping from above you.
    The amount of things you have to kill makes it super fun, and the killing itself feels enjoyable - in part because of the impact your shots have on the zombies and in part because of the variety of weapons that you get. There's many characters to play as, each having a very detailed look and a backstory to discover. The game never lets you rest, and even the skippable preparations involve placing turrets, refilling ammo and more. The PVP mode isn't bad either, as the zombie hordes invade your classic 4v4 team deathmatch or capture point matches and spice up the experience.    … Expand

    WWZ is almost a carbon copy of Left for dead, it's almost comically how many things they shamelessly stole.
    Wouldn't be surprised if steam sued them they would probably win. The graphics are pretty dated, animations are a bit clunky, fairly short game, can't make private games and a complete rip off LFD2. But for some reason hordes of Zombies that piles up is extremely satisfying when you    WWZ is almost a carbon copy of Left for dead, it's almost comically how many things they shamelessly stole.

    the core of the game is a solid hoard zombie shooter that i can sit back and play for hours. too bad it was released on the epic store. Can see it was heavily inspired by l4d but the melee is sub par and can be polished a little better. would not recommend buying at full price otherwise a solid game.

For one, there is a class system, and your class is not tied to a specific character, so you can always play the class you prefer. There is also a solid progression system, for both your class and your weapons of choice. This gives extra incentive to play and helps the replayability. It also adds in some simple mechanics for the horde defense sections, where you can build fences, traps, mortars, turrets and machine gun emplacements.

    The amount of zombies they throw at you is simply astonishing, and the novelty of it helps give the game a distinct feel.

    Overall, it might not be a genre defining experience yet, but at release it's already a legit competitor for the rest of the genre and I anticipate it being a success. It's only $35, so if you like L4D, it's worth a buy. Valve can't count to 3, but this is a worthy substitute.    … Expand

    So I want to do an honest review. First of all, I have played about 20 hours so far. I have found only one bug so far. It occurred when I failed a mission right as I passed it. The game went into you failed screen but the audio playing as if I had passed. This seems like it would be a very rare thing to encounter.

    The graphics are decent and the game is well optimized. I was getting great FPS 140+ with Ultra settings and in 2500x1440 I have a 1080ti That being said it should work well with most newer cards.

    The game itself is fun and better with friends. It is still fun solo but as with most A.I. sidekicks, they don't always do the right thing. They don't do any part of the missions. They shoot a zombie and revive you as needed. The game has great difficulty settings and is very challenging. The game definitely needs more content. Currently, the game has 4 different areas with 3 missions per area. You can increase the difficulty for more playability. However, in the end, it needs more missions. I think the dev's will add some more content as time goes by. Think Payday 2.

    Final thoughts. The game is not a 10. but it is also not a 0. To me, it is a strong 7 to a low 8. I am not sure what rating system some people use to give it a 0 or a 10. If you were interested enough to pay for the game it is not a 0. If you cannot get it to work on your PC. Give your PC a 0 not the game because the game is fine.    … Expand

    Definitely not what you can expect from a movie based video game. The is clearly a good one, not perfect, but still delivers great gaming experience and is really closest as possible to the high octane zombies sequences from the movie.     Every matched played feels different sometimes its quiet, sometimes its very hectic, so don't worry about it being repetitive!

    BUT there are a few things that needs to be done:
    - More special zombies needed. (there are only 4 unique zombies)
    - Skins for characters and weapons would be nice.
    - The story feels short and quick, more acts maybe?
    - They should make it so you can drop med kits so medics can have them. (more health for both players with skill unlocked)
    - Leveling weapons is strange, you could save up 1000 credits and have max weapon upgrade, grinding for weapon levels feels too easy.
    - A better pinging system would work well, right now it only highlights the item but doesn't say what it is, they could improve it by have text over it for those's squads that don't use mic.
    Ping warnings for incoming hordes.
    Ping defence locations, where to stand in preparations for standoffs.

    Overall i'm impressed and hope the devs update it with more maps, weapons, skins etc
    This game is more enjoyable with friends, and on hard + difficulty.    … Expand

    IT IS JUST F*CKING amazing! But to be clear, don't expect that it is a 100% beautiful game, no, it is basic, uses a lot of old things, but they found a formula of combination of class development, stealth, usual shooter and a super tower defense things with a gun in your hands. It just works, you just sit again and again and play it with other random people or internet.
    If you start feeling boring, just raise the difficulty :)

    Anyway, if you are not the huge fan of Left 4 Dead (many negative reviews just try to compare different games because they have zombies and guns), then give it a try    … Expand

    Anyways, back to the things that don't make sense to me.
    --For example, it would make sense for a chance to get infected when a zombie hits you, but why does explosive damage have a chance to infect you? Like if I accidentally hit myself with a payload rifle, it can infect me. That doesn't make any sense to me. And it seems like explosive damage, for whatever reason, actually has a pretty high chance to infect. Or maybe I'm just unlucky that way? But who knows...
    --Also, when a bull is charging at you, why is it able to loop around corners and then grip you even though it is CLEARLY running straight into a wall? It would make sense for the bull to be able to change direction a bit while charging, but not do some magic-loop around a corner somehow...
    --The same goes for lurkers as well. Why are they able to fly around while they are clearly leaping in one direction? Like if you are running around, in a direction as if you are forming a rainbow, why are the lurkers able to change directions in MID LEAP as well? And I've actually tested this out to see if the lurkers are actually predicting where I would be at the time they leap...It turns out that is not the case. They are actually somehow flying around in mid leap. Either that, or they have some INSANELY huge hit boxes...
    --Also, screamers seem to spawn in places that are just simply unreachable. Not to say that they can't be shot, but they will spawn in places that just don't seem possible for us, as players, to kill them. For example, in the second map of the Moscow campaign, Key to the City, during that first swarm attack when the team is looking for the radio key, some screamer will always spawn literally in the back room to the side and there is no way for us to kill it. Because of this, the swarm will overwhelm us, no matter what (Unless you are playing on easy difficulty I suppose). And this happens about 8/10 times. It is extremely frustrating and that is why I REFUSE to play on that map anymore.
    --Zombies also seem to have some interesting HUGE hit boxes. I could be at least a whole meter away from a zombie and it will either swing its left or right arm, and take a huge chunk of my health. And it's not even like they are running at me WHILE swinging, bringing them into range at the last second. It's quite literally like they are standing still, takes a swing, and somehow reaches me from a whole car lengths away. This doesn't always happen of course, but when it does, it is one of the most confusing things to me about this game.
    --When you press tab, you can see people's inventory except for their medical kits. Why is that?
    --When you go to melee a bull from behind, sometimes the damage it is inflicting on the person they are pummeling will hit you as well. That doesn't make sense.
    --The bots are actually pretty dumb sometimes. You could be pinned by a lurker right next to them and they take at least 2-3 seconds to even glance at you and free you from the lurker.

    Other than that, the game is not terrible, it could really use a lot more updates such as more campaigns though. The things that are frustrating can make it feel absolutely terrible sometimes. Some fixes have already been made into the game, which is great. I just hope more fixes will be made soon.    … Expand

This is enhanced by the fact that many missions have you defend places but the AI is terrible at protecting stuff so you end up losing missions instantly because you failed to defend some point that you have to defend yourself while the AI don't care (these instantIt looks nice and would be quite good if not for the fact that the companion AI is abysmal (I like to play solo with bots).     Loved the co-op campaign. Really satisfied my zombie killing needs haha. Definitely suggest buying it. Great game for a good price if you like that kind of style. (It almost reminded me of left 4 dead).

    I'm gonna give it a 7/10 because I'm not a big fan of the multiplayer option.

Le location sono tutte molto precise, anche se alcuni elementi sono ripetuti un po' troppo spesso e si finisce per impararne le caratteristiche (ad esempio se un furgone contiene oggetti, se può essere aperto o se è semplicemente scenico).

    Gli zombie sono identici a Left 4 Dead, ovvero oltre ai nemici base ne sono presenti alcuni "speciali" e più difficili da sconfiggere. Anche questi zombie speciali sono gli stessi. Gli unici assenti rispetto a L4D sono il Tank e la Witch, ma si possono ritenere sostituiti dalle orde di zombie, che sono esageratamente grandi e a tratti anche buffe (gli zombie arrivano come un fiume in piena lanciandosi dai palazzi).
    Proprio per contrastare queste orde sono presenti nel gioco delle armi fisse, come mitragliatrici e mortai, che sono un'aggiunta interessante ma che personalmente non mi convince appieno.

    Le differenze principali da Left 4 Dead, e che personalmente mi piacciono molto, sono la visuale in terza persona (di cui sono un grande fan) e il sistema a classi. Quest'ultimo è ben sviluppato in quanto ogni classe (che prescinde dal personaggio selezionato) ha caratteristiche precise che si sviluppano ancora di più utilizzandolo e quindi facendolo salire di livello. Allo stesso modo salgono di livello anche le armi e questo permette di acquistarne modifiche.

    Per concludere posso dire che non è un gioco originale e se sotto certi aspetti è meglio rispetto a Left 4 Dead è solo perchè è uscito diversi anni dopo e parte da una base consolidata che non ha necessitato di molto studio. Ottenuto gratis sull'Epic Store però merita di essere giocato con gli amici, che magari non sono in possesso del titolo Valve.

The classes are a good shot at adding replayability to the game. Unfortunately to me playing the same 5 different maps feels a little tedious. It's a shame that they didn't add diffrent variants of chapters or made different scripted events like PD2 or L4D had. This would've helped massively. But the class system is a pretty good alternative which is also adding another layer of progression into the game. Characters have different backgrounds and most of them are plausible. There are a few rotten apples tho. But only in terms of backstory because I personally think all the voice actors did a great job. At last map design. The map design is very good. The team behind levels knew what they were doing and it really shows. Each map has different sections which never feel the same. Every holdout section is different and masterfully crafted. The settings are for the most part pretty unique and like holdout scenarios diffrent from each other. It's a blast to play it for first time and a ton of even after you've already experienced what you were supposed to.… Expand

    The game surprises me with the atmosphere and level of world architecture not only, but how similarly the game is recreated from the movie in terms of zombies. So the gameplay in the game isn't the most impressive, as the developers use the same formula, stealth or action and great action in fighting the Zombie Hordes and defending position. The characters in the game look quite interesting. The game has 4 levels, like Episode, and each episode has several levels. What’s fascinating is that you play different countries in each Episode. Voice - characters actors do a great job, for example: the episode is for Russia, so you play for other characters, and they will have that Russian accent. In the game, you play with four characters as the team can play with bots or friends, much like Left 4 Dead. The game's soundtrack isn't very appealing to the action, at least for me. But what I didn’t really like is that the levels in the game don’t have a checkpoint, if you die you start the whole level all over again, which makes me very angry. Bots don’t really help, they just help you shoot zombies, nothing else, and you have to do everything yourself to build guard things and so on. The game feels boring, the levels have such objectives, and you need to complete it and the game has its own formula for how to kill and defend against zombie hordes. This is very boring !. If you beat the level you get game money, where you can buy some guns upgrades and skills, and you need grinding the game, and you get XP for guns and skills, then you can buy more things, this is **** !. Also, the game is gore cool.

    So the game isn’t that bad, it has both good and bad things. You have beautiful level architecture. The gameplay itself is quickly boring and annoying. I just hoped the game would have a story game, like during the movie, but I’m not saying it’s bad. Maybe they didn’t have that much budget to make a perfect game, or they directly tried to do something like Left 4 Dead, but with the movie idea. I would rate this game 7/10.    … Expand

    It's ok for what it is with the perks and gameplay but honestly it just lacks the feel and over all replay-ability that L4D has. I just played through every stage and it's the same boring dialogue with slightly differences mainly just being my team and perks.     World War Z is a third-person horde survival shooter with a considerable progression system, praiseworthy character designs and a satisfying stack of zombies, gore and apocalyptic ambiance in modern graphical fashion. Sadly, it fails short of making a decent teammate AI, level design, and gun play.

Even the special zombie types were replicated, except that they come off as cheap imitations.     The game itself looks and plays very well, I enjoy the way they made the hordes really feel like hordes and like a threat to the player. The selection of weapons and classes increased it's replay-ability and it actually rewards you for finishing a campain.

I mean, sure, Sabertooth said that they're gonna add the option to create a private lobby but that shouldn't be something you have to add!!
    Trying to start a game with less than 3 other friends is a chore because you will mostly get matched with someone who's already in a mission and you are either forced to join into that mission or you have to leave and try it with another campain.
    It is so frustrating that it often makes me ragequit before I even got to play the game.

    It's so frustrating that this is my only reason I give this game only a 6/10 because private lobbies or at least the option to turn off "Join already ongoing missions" or something.    … Expand

    Non è un'idea orrenda, andare in giro per il mondo a sterminare colonie di zombi. Peccato per l'estrema ripetitività del gameplay, che viene un pochino attutita dalla possibilità di giocare in co-op. Il multiplayer funziona, ma non lasci a chissà che impressione di alcun tipo.

    Another way to give the game replayability is by adding challenges and horde mode. Not encountered a challenge that I was remotely close to being able to    High adrenaline, fast paced action game with some fatal flaws.

    Another way to give the game replayability is by adding challenges and horde mode. Not encountered a challenge that I was remotely close to being able to complete, but Horder mode is the real star anyway. Waves of increasingly taxing zombies, equipment that wears out, and a shop where you can replace it. Except this is where the whole thing falls apart. A key (and bloody irritating mechanic in the game) is a rapid countdown timer. You can't do anything instantly - reload, change weapons, or pick up new ones. They all have a 1 or 2 second timer to prevent you being able to just do what you want to do in the midst of an attack. Bad enough when it comes to picking up a new weapon, but when the same timer is used on the ingame horde mode shop, it becomes infuriating - not for the time delay, but because the "Open shop" button is also the purchase item button. So you're waiting for the poxy timer to go down and trying to judge so that you don't.... accidentally... buy.... NO DAMN IT, I bought another bloody electric kit.
    Whoever came up with and signed off on this mechanic should be fired IMMEDIATELY. It totally ruins what is otherwise an EXCELLENT mode in a pretty decent game.
    At NO POINT do I want to have to battle a game's interface, and even less so when I have limited time, limited resources, and a single wrong purchase can cost me hours of effort.
    I'd give the game 3 points more if that single mechanic was fixed..    … Expand

The class skills seem kind of arbitrary often and I have difficulties finding the right play styles for the skill trees that I select. Something doesn't add up there. In multiplayer on easy mode, you will still need decent player companions to survive a round - not speaking of horde mode which doesn't have an easy mode. All in all, it's simply too difficult for the given skill tree options that don't grant you many benefits. I would have hoped for more options to max out your class and their special skills. Another point I dislike is the lack of ultra wide support. Lastly, the stories are fine given the genre and WWZ lore (having read the book). It's difficult to follow though when you're supposed to listen to your characters and companions while hordes of zombies run at you. But there isn't much of a story to discover overall, which limits replayability to minor extensions in the skill tree and predicting the crowd AI (which is difficult). Shooting, shooting, and shooting just don't provide what I need to replay the missions. In conclusion, I had hoped for more but I also want to give credit for the engine work and crowd AI, which seems novel for a zombie shooter.… Expand

    Sure there is the "hulk" zombie (extra strong), the "screamer" zombie (who calls others) and the "gas" zombie (who emits hazardous gasses when killed around the group) but they don't seem to be a nearly as fine tuned or menacing as in Valve's games.

    So many controll issues. Its different controlls depending on which meny. skip by ESC or Enter and I have to klick skip89 times in a row after a mission. thats not skipping. Cant switch from single fire to fullauto/burst. To restricted movement. Unclear how the lvlevling system works, which skill am I using. Ammo bags disapear without getting loot. Weapons dont reload...

    Game is a L4D clone, not bad, has the possibilty to play with bots.
    But... this is a 2019 game and does not support 21:9 displays ? Are we in middle ages?
    I do not recommend it for PCMR.

    it's a clusterbomb type of game throws alot of zombies ( in this game) at your way that you gotta kill with no real sense of getting anything done and feel rewarded afterwards.if you like to kill hordes of things just for the fun of it you might like this game. i don't...

    World War Z is a genuine fun and entertaining Left 4 Dead clone that does add a bit of its own stuff to a mix in the old formula. The only issue is that bugs, glitches, and poor connectivity are can be annoying, but hopefully, that will be sorted.

    All in all, World War Z is a pretty fun experience. It’s one that definitely surprised me, as the developers in my opinion didn’t put their best foot forward with the trailers. It still may not appeal to people who weren’t fans of the movie, but if you’re a fan of zombie games, especially co-op experiences like Left 4 Dead, it’s a solid experience at a relatively cheap price for the amount of gameplay and replay value you’re getting. Just make sure you’re playing with friends, as playing with randoms is often as bad as playing with the single player AI.
