World War Z

World War Z takes arguably the best part of the film and uses it to create a visually interesting gameplay mechanic that is horrifying to witness but fun to dismantle.

World War Z is a genuine fun and entertaining Left 4 Dead clone that does add a bit of its own stuff to a mix in the old formula. The only issue is that bugs, glitches, and poor connectivity are can be annoying, but hopefully, that will be sorted.

A capable coop shooter with a lot of potential and amazing swarm mechanics.

All in all, World War Z is a pretty fun experience. It’s one that definitely surprised me, as the developers in my opinion didn’t put their best foot forward with the trailers. It still may not appeal to people who weren’t fans of the movie, but if you’re a fan of zombie games, especially co-op experiences like Left 4 Dead, it’s a solid experience at a relatively cheap price for the amount of gameplay and replay value you’re getting. Just make sure you’re playing with friends, as playing with randoms is often as bad as playing with the single player AI.

When all is said and done, World War Z is a worthy entry into those Left 4 Dead style of zombie games. At a competitive and reduced price, it is excellent value for the buck.

Is World War Z as good as Left 4 Dead? No. Is it fun despite that? Yes. There's few pleasures in gaming that can compare to swinging a thrumming chainsaw blade through a horde of ravenous undead, and World War Z delivers. And really, it's not like Valve makes games anymore.

It's not revolutionary by any means, but World War Z is a fun zombie shooter that actually surpasses the movie on which it is based.

The best way to experience World War Z is to fire up your microphone and find yourself a four-person crew to play through its brief but fun campaign. It’s rare to see it go beyond the roots of its very clear inspiration, and there’s not a whole lot of variety when it comes to the missions, the special zombies, or the weapons, but what is there works and is enough to fill the Left 4 Dead-shaped hole in all our hearts, for a little while at least.

World War Z is a third-person mix of Left 4 Dead and Killing Floor 2 with the biggest enemy hordes I've ever seen in a game. This is really impressive, but at some point you get fed up with it and what's left is a zombie shooter like many others - mind you not a bad one, but not one that absolutely must be played.

Uninspired and with a bunch of issues, this fast-paced shooter can fill the void left in the hearts of Left 4 Dead fans.

World War Z is very competently made and has very few flaws, but it's just nothing we haven't seen plenty of times before.

Overall, World War Z provides a decent co-op zombie experience, despite some drawbacks. The weapons lack oomph, even when powered up, but they are still decent. The class system doesn't make anyone feel too different, but much like the weapons, there aren't any terrible classes. The locale changes are nice (even if the level beats remain similar), and the inclusion of standard adversarial multiplayer modes is also welcome. It's in real need of polish as far as matchmaking basics go, but it will satisfy those who have been waiting a long time for another co-op, zombie-killing experience.

If anyone enjoys cooperative player vs environment games like Left 4 Dead, Strange Brigade or Warhammer: Vermintide, then World War Z is for you. It’s not the greatest of the bunch, but it scratches the same itch as the above games while bringing a little something of its own with the swarm mechanic.

World War Z is at its finest when it throws a flowing mass of dead flesh at you, but unfortunately that doesn’t happen or work as well as we’d like most of the time. It ends up being a L4D game that still manages to pull some personality out of the original film. Not a big deal, but still a fun experience to play with your friends.

World War Z is a decent Koop-Survival-Shooter, which compensates for its lack of innovation with a lack of major flaws.

The main pleasure is the fact that we have to face huge hordes of zombies. The feeling of surprise we can have during the movie of 2013 is intact. The main problem is the lack of content (not enough levels and chapters).

Very inspired by Left 4 Dead in its mechanisms, World War Z, yet, plays differently. It hasn’t the same depth, which limits it to a simple way to let off steam, but it can offer some good memories for you and all your friends.

While we wait for Left 4 Dead to come back from the dead, World War Z is not a bad option, but it isn’t as good as that series. If you like killing zombies with friends you’ll have a great time, although the game has a fair amount of shortcomings.

With better class implementation, carrying through into PvP, it might have been able to assert its own identity. [Issue#333, p.116]

A fun and refreshing take on the zombie fighting co-op experience that is hindered by network lag and unimpressive AI.

World War Z has many rough edges that are easy to spot, exacerbated by limited content that makes repeated playthroughs less interesting with each run. But it's also a cooperative shooter that has the space for those dynamic and ridiculous player stories to emerge in.

In all things, World War Z takes ideas that I've already seen done better elsewhere, gives them an interesting little twist—and then makes that twist not matter. It treads familiar ground, but it's not as clever or fun as what's come before it.

The level and character design is something to marvel at with World War Z, but it gets bogged down in its flaws. There's a good game buried in here but first impressions aren't stellar, and promises of updates don't do much for a fully released game with very noticeable problems.
