But the game changed. It has become more and more a super Mario on steroids, where it is more important to push buttons fast then to have a brain to understand what is going on. It has become a hunt to clear content in the first few weeks or to be one of masses that run through lfr's to pick up loot that's at that point worthless. The immersion is gone - and instead of fixing the problem they take out flying, claiming to fix the lack immersion that way.
Also the community in the game has gone to completely disgusting. The amount of stupid and just disgusting profanity has risen to an almost permanent condition. People who complain are being belittled and accused of being the problem instead of those who display the inappropriate behavior.
It seems that the majority of the player base consists of barely literate, rude and low class teenagers (or those who got stuck in a high-school mentality even though they progressed in years).

I loved the game. Sometimes I feel almost homesick. But I stopped playing about a year ago and haven't gone back. I don't feel like wanting to go back.

I guess if you don't care for profanity littering your chat window and if you think true gaming is to push buttons fast it's your game. If you look for intelligent and fun ways to immerse yourself in a different world it isn't anymore.

The nostalgia keeps me coming back. The art is very appealing as always, but the state of pvp is absolutely rubbish. If your idea of a good time is being stunned and losing control of your character, this game MIGHT be for you. The only game I spend more time incapacitated than actually playing. Sad times.

Since the announcement of WoD i was so eager to play it as soon as possible since it looked like Blizzard have decided to bring back the original lore. Blizzard invested so much in getting more new players and bringing back old players and told everyone to be there when WoD expansion starts. Well, i was one of those people waiting online for the moment WoD gets activated but guess what, the moment WoD got activated Blizzard servers weren't there for people to play, they just went down!

Now to move on to the expansion itself. The game play experience has been made more linear and easier. There is no more originality to the game. For example dwarf used to dwell in the mountains, night elves in the forst and so on but no more. For example every alliance race get the same garrison that looks like human structures. To be brief here is what i think about WoD so far:

    Pros:
    - The lore has come back, no more Pandas
    - Nice environmental visuals and details

    Cons:
    - Very bad launch experience, WoD being unplayable for at least 5 days and high waiting queues and random dropouts after that
    - Racial traits and in game visuals related to each race are gone making it pointless which race you have chosen, for example every alliance race gets the same "Human Base Looking" garrison
    - Character game-play has been dumbed so much there is hardly any complexity to it. All different character types feel the same having 2-4 key rotations.
    - Quests are linear and no fun, plus having the new quest guide system you hardly need to read what the quest is about.
    - Professions are completely destroyed, nothing like they used to be. They are now all the same, using single materials and high daily cooldowns. They are even more pointless during leveling your char.
    - No central towns in Draenor like Stormwind, Orgrimmar, Shattrath and etc... You just get a garrison which only you and some mindless NPCs are walking around.
    - Everything is so tied to garrisons making the game experience much like browser-based or cellphone games. I can't shake the feeling that I'm playing "Clash of Clans" instead of World of Warcraft.
    - Guild leveling is gone as well as many guild perks. Another hit to the social aspect of the game.

    Conclusion:
Imho fun comes from learning new stuff (which comes with complexity), socializing and having freedom of action. WoW used to have them but Blizzard decided to take them away beginning from Cataclysm. TBC was the best expansion and will remain to do so. WoD is nothing compared to TBC with its awful game experience. It looks like Blizzard is deliberately destroying WoW's game experience or their game design team is very incompetent and lacking when it comes to creativity but Blizzard doesn't care. Either way the current expansion, Warlords of Draenor, is the worst ever. With Blizzard announcing that they are going to release an expansion each year, i doubt that WoW will get any better soon if ever.

Game is terrible has been for awhile, Blizzard is and has been overrated. Game seems to be written by people who think their audience is mentally handicapped. MOST of the quests are very simple in nature go here kill this or go here collect this, extremely cringe worthy non intuitive questing. Questing seems like it was an afterthought, like the content. BUYER BEWARE.

The quests and storytelling are absolutely amazingly well done, even better than WotLK. Garrisons are very fun. Bonus objectives are a great way to take out a chunk of the boring part and make it optional. Overall this is an absolutely amazing expansion so far, and raids haven't even been released yet. Good job, Blizzard. WoW is back!

This is what you call an AAA game? BC and WOTLK were AAA in their days, today they are maybe only AA..WOD is nowhere near BC and WOTLK, therefore it's one of the biggest disappointments of 2014, in my opinion the biggest.

Being a WoW player for a long time till Cataclysm, I can only give the 5th expansion (Draenor) a 0/10. First, now they sell stuff in the game for real money. This alone is the reason to give a 0. You are clearly on your way to make your game a big bazaar like some Korean f2p mobile game for Android. Second, the promised character boost to lvl 90. The boost was the only reason I downloaded the trial, because I hated Pandaria and didn't want to play all those crappy Chinese-themed levels EVER again, so I hoped that I could skip that nasty expansion altogether and see if the new stuff is worth a purchase. It turns out, the boost is only free for 1 character. Which means, with the rest of my characters I will need to play thru the Chinese crap, or pay 50 euro for each. In the trial they don't even give the boost, so I'm kind of forced to start with the Pandaria **** again. Now, what's with the new graphics? I had a pretty female gnome mage, and now her face is totally ugly after the graphics update, so ugly that I don't want to play this character anymore. Of all the dozen female gnome faces only 1 (the first one in the list) looks nice, the rest are ugly. So, I'm forced to drop that character which has craploads of achievements on it, or pay to change the face. Anyway, Pandaria with its Chinese crap ruined this game. And as long as that crap stays in the game and I can't skip it I'm not coming back. Expand

Warlords of Draenor is unfinished game. Yes it's an mmorpg, but in its state it's just not even an average product. In 2014 no other mmo launched worse, it's even more terrible when you realize this is an expansion pack. Also mmos like elder scrolls online that launched this year, is doing so many things better than draenor already. (only 7 months past launch)

I am absolutely disgusted by this "Expansion". Not only is WoD more expensive than previous expansions, it's also coming with way less content, heck even less than MoP. I got my refund today, and will rather spend it on better mmoRPG.

    - terrible costumer support

    - terrible servers

    - 6 dungeons

    - 7 new small zones (small, because other mmos have bigger, and they release so much in approx 6 months instead of 2 years)

Worst expansion ever. Not that other expansions were something special. I nominee Warlords of Draenor for worst expansion of the year. -Garrisons are a **** minigame that no one asked for as a mandatory addition; it's like they saw them in SWTOR or something and were like "yea, let's do it."
-Randomization of gear/rppm trinkets has ruined pve parse competition
-AoE class balance is terrible, and yet most raid bosses are AoE
-20 man change will force guilds to cut their melee, and pretty much only their melee

I don't play an mmo as large and immersive as WoW to be a casual, and that's what this game has become. WoW will become a slippery slope into cash-grabs as the graphics and gameplay become more and more outdated. I can't say that many MMOs are being well-managed (cough Trion), but there are definitely superior alternatives to Draenor if you're interested in something more substantial than kiddie games, ****ty pvp, and limited content.

Blizzard didn't prepare servers so they lowered population cap on all of them, so you could see anywhere from 1 hour to over 12 hour queue times just to login. Very poor and shoddy thing for a company to do to a game they charge you to play monthly. Not since Diablo's pay-to-use-AH has there been such a shameless grab for cash. With each expansion the game contracts, both in game mechanics and in the amount of content that is played. 1/10 for the memories.

Garrisons feel really bland and not at all suited to the MMO genre. Click a button --> start work order/follower quest --> come back hours later. Very little combat, or interactive/active gameplay. It is probably less engaging than Farmvillle. As somebody who just loves playing a caster/ranged class, the balance here has been quite poor. Especially in PvP. Part of the goal of class changes to casters in WoD was to reduce caster mobility so that they were not always better than melee. The issue is that casters/ranged classes currently do not out-damage melee on fights that are movement-free.

Since melee mobility/gap closers are something that has been planned into the game and not tampered with, melee damage is fairly consistent between low and high movement fights. In fact, melee often has to do the least movement in many fights to begin with. Often they are given a pass on mechanics for most fights and required only to try to position themselves somewhere other than in front of the boss and then can stay there or move with it while still attacking.

Because of this, it is very important that ranged/caster classes output a higher damage in a motionless fight, because realistically, none of the fights or content that Blizzard designs anymore is movement free for a caster. They continue to increase movement requirements each expansion. Not allowing casters to move without suffering a DPS loss means that they will always suffer a DPS loss from their maximum DPS in a game with mechanics designed primarily around making ranged players move properly and in a well-timed fashion. If you want to penalize casters for moving, then they really need to have a "hard-hitting, but limited by their immobility" sort of playstyle (even though this is a turret-style of gameplay that some people, like myself, who enjoy playing casters find dull). You cannot have them be "hit about as hard as everyone else, and are also limited by movement more than others" style of gameplay without balance suffering.

Currently it looks like spellcasters will be necessary in raids/PvP for their specific buffs/utilities, and a few specific mechanisms (like a boss in highmaul requiring magic damage to be taken to break a shield). This is gimicky and not satisfying. Nobody says "Wow, it's such crazy good fun to give everyone that +stamina buff!! that I click once and never think about again until somebody says 'stam plz.'"

WoD also seems to be shifting towards are more "hardcore" playstyle. This is cool, and I enjoy it, but I think it is a mistake. Expanding hardcore gameplay is great, but this should come at absolutely 0 expense to casual gameplay. Most people in the world can be considered casual gamers and will never have the time to devote to hardcore gameplay. My boyfriend for instance, wakes up at 6 to eat, get ready for work, shower, commute to work, etc by 9, gets back at 7, has dinner, and has a few hours each night (~3) before needing to go to bed again. He could never play a game like WoW hardcore without really unhealthy concessions in his personal life, and WoW'S rampant "omg this game has so many baddies and casuals and caters to casuals and baddies omg" fanboys that speak loud that this is an approach the development team keeps trying to take. It did not work well in Cataclysm, and it will not work here. I expect a few million of the ~3 million people who joined again this month to be gone before the final raid boss of the expac goes down.

(I have a good rig), the zones just feel more of the same, the dungeons, way to easy, the game itself way to easy. The garrisons are the best part of this expansion, but even still, they just feel like a beefed up farm from MoP, if I want to build my own "garrison", I'll go play something like Banished. To be fair the gameplay is fluid, just what you would expect from WoW, but still that is not enough to keep me as a subscriber. Expand

The population is in decline for a reason. I spent 5 days trying to find one redeemable quality. There is literally not one interesting item I can remark on. Failures are poor crafting system, uninteresting dungeon encounters(you literally just want to get through it to get the xp or loot might as well get a second job), afk bots galore in PvP, unbalanced PvP, unimaginative garrison addition, ugly icons and quests for lackluster pet battles, bloated unmanageable economy, supposedly "streamlined" classes making them all depressing to play. There is more, god is there more bad. I wonder where all the talented people went that use to work for this company? Probably to other companies that are run better than this one is now. Expand

Here's the thing: There's nothing new to do in this expansion if you're below level 90. Everyone who buys this expansion gets a free level 90. And while you or I may think "1 + 1 = time 2 work on server stability in starter zones," we are definitely not Blizzard employees. There's a lot TO do past level 90, but between server restarts, massive queues if you aren't lucky enough to be on a low-pop server, and phasing issues / constant lag when you're able to play / competing with people for quest spawns to a degree I haven't seen since Vanilla, good luck getting to all that sweet content you paid for.

This isn't a game. This is Progress Quest: Queue Edition.

Actually the hate Blizzard gets for this "launch" is all legit and to be honest they deserve a lot more. It's not like it comes like a surprise everytime. They KNOW the servers can't handle it. They KNOW it will cause DCs/crashes/errors. They KNOW they can fix it BUT it costs them money to do so and they KNOW people have already paid for the game and probably a month playtime aswell. They've already earned enough to go + on the launch itself, that's why the don't give a single fu*k about what happens during it.

I also saw they've put the blame on DDoS attacks. Don't buy that sh*t. All that has happened is that they f*cked up and now they're trying to dodge a bullet by putting the blame on a DDoS attack. The evidence is easily faked. Like It's actually ridicoulus and they know that their, yet again, fail launch will give them bad reputation so they will come up with a public excuse like "we did nothing wrong, everything would've gone smooth if this DDoS attack never happened."

**** Don't believe their lies. Only way to get to them is if they're losing millions of subscribers maybe then we would get a decent launch. Until then, RIP.

I could also note the wait times some servers had in the opening week but I wasn't affected much and got 4 free days of time out of the deal when Blizzard openly apologized as the great customer service company they are.

From a lore standpoint, WoD is fantastic. You get to see the world in a whole new light, and the story is told seamlessly. Leveling up from 90 to 100 was exciting while reading quest text and watching cut scenes because it makes you feel a part of something. The voice acting is very alive here too like in Pandaria which was the only thing good about MoP.
The PvP is cool and I like what they're doing with both Ashran and the Garrison.
Garrisons are awesome and I enjoy upgrading my plots and sending followers to farm for me. I like just how unique mine feels compared to a friends, yet they are similar enough to not get lost. The only thing that'd make it better is cosmetic changes to allow for more varying designs. Garrisons were a key feature of the expansion and you can tell Blizz worked hard on them.
The PvE is great so far. Not only with world bosses, rares, and treasure hunting; the dungeons are also very fun and moderately challenging. Some heroics need to be fixed such as the damage from the orbs on the first boss in UBRS (which was very well redone) or the adds on the third boss that come out of nowhere to wipe your party. Other than the bugs, the dungeons are engaging with their own storylines better in every way from Mists of Pandaria.
The only raid we had was a 100 scaled Molton Core true to the original 40 man roots. It was cool but hard to give much credit for them as it's not even an official Draenor raid as those aren't out until December.
The only thing I absolutely hated was the proving grounds as it's a prerequisite to heroics yet they are glitchy as hell. At times one of my interrupts wouldn't work, causing a healer to full heal and set me back precious seconds. At other times, globs would go through a mob to hit me an freeze me in place for precious seconds. I literally pulled my hair out at one point in a blind rage but I pulled through as always.
The stat squish in the patch leading up to WoD was a very positive thing, but I will also say that the removal of many skills was negative as many classes lost some very unique skills.
WoD is the best expansion since Lich King and I hope to see you in the World of Warcraft. If you're on Laughing Skull, look up Shamtoshammy (dumb name I know)

Over the last expansions Blizzard managed to take out every aspect of the game that made it once great. They lured us by promising a retro like experience and more challanging content. What we got was the most dumbed down content ever. Every major quest line instanced, easy to kill raremobs everywhere, no social interaction needed for anything, mandatory garrison farming all day every day. Again I believed their lies at Blizzcon and tolerated their arrogant behavior towards the fanbase. As I stated in my D3 review i feel betrayed by a company that delivered the greatest video game of my era and by that i mean the original World of Warcraft. The insolence of selling WoD for almost 200% of BCs selling price back in the day, and then haveing the least content of all expansions, indicates that Activision-Blizzards priority is to milk the rest of the customers as far as possible before there are none left. I cannot understand why anyone would consider buying Legion while they continue to ignore the player bases outcry.
Sadly it seems that Blizzard itself is the "WoW-Killer" and not any competitive product.

They have built a system to shield themselves from the customer while they provide no support. The game areas now are very small and to fix this they do things like take away flying to "make it more immersive" meaning we built a small area being lazy and this is how we are trying to combat it. You can unlock flying but its a long achievement to do so once you do this you realize how small the new areas really are. Since prepatch for legion the servers are plagued with crashes and resets almost everyday. During this the raids. dungeons, and quests reset randomly sometimes. Which Blizzards reply is "well keep trying it". This game could still be good but apparently they have gone the route of provide little content and get as much out of the consumer as they can. They now also sell mounts and pets you cannot get in the game for a bigger cash grab. Expand

I played WoW hardcore for its first six years and loved it. It began to really slip for me after Lich King and now is just a shell of itself. They have really mailed-in everything about it - not improving the graphics, the talents and progression are actually worse, and the quests are so bland and copy pasta it is ridiculous.

*edited* change score to reflect the quality of the expansion as a whole.

Good things - Leveling/dungeons(when they were relevant) raids and new character models.

Bad things - nearly everything else. tl;dr You were stuck in the garrison all the time w/ nothing to do other than to play a facebook game.

Anyone who claims that Battle for Azeroth or Shadowlands are worse than Warlords of Draenor is either being a contrarian or looking through rose-tinted glasses. Warlords of Draenor was an abysmal expansion that added only two worthwhile features: new character models and the convenience of having an additional Hearthstone.

There is no excuse for the disaster that is Warlords of Draenor.

There is no excuse for the disaster that is Warlords of Draenor. The only good thing that can be said about it is that because the developers decided to seemingly halt development a few months into the expansion's life cycle, they were able to pour more resources into the next expansion and give us Legion, which was a great expansion.

But unfortunately, the damage had already been done, and to this day there are many who left the game and never returned. All because of Warlords of Draenor.

Is me negative vote more strong for me... I never thing said this in any product from Blizzard with your franchise World Of Warcraft... but Warlords of Draenor... break this limit, and yes, this expansion is so bad... only save leveling, cinematic and of course new land and new visual line.... but content, news mods.... 4/10... :(

Now is a great time to jump in for new players, but established players will quickly tire of grinding the same content.

My quarrel with Warlords of Draenor is that it does not define the direction for the whole game – it just refreshes it and sets it in order, which is what patches do. There’s not enough novelties and the changes (e.g. randomized loot) are hit and miss. [01/2015, p.52]
