I unsubbed after only a few days since I started playing Dragonflight, because I really don't want to support a company that is giving their players the same old content just with different colors on it.
How hard can it be to make this game more player friendly?
More social and less racist by removing that strict racial segregation system for factions? Why do they keep such outdated restrictions in the first place?
Why aren't they more up to date with it's graphics and customisations? With player housing and such?
Nothing of that sort can be find in this game.
The world feels very empty. If you only do certain activities like raiding and m+ then you’re quickly going to run out of things to do. I’ve spent countless of hours just flying around farming and I realize how bad that is so I stopped doing it. Crafting is just bad at this point and I really wish they would have put that effort to actual fun stuff like player housing, or again, creating new short intro stories for all races, so that they can start neutral like Pandaren and Evoker. Instead they give us this halfbaked crafting system, that almost nobody seems to enjoy from what I've heard.

Daily raw gold sources such as emissaries or callings are no longer provided, and weekly raw gold sources have been reduced.
    Mission tables are not available.
The best ways of earning gold through professions are restricted to personal crafting orders.
Racial segregation, which doesn't allows players to choose their favorite faction, thus players are still dictated by the devs, which faction to choose, if they want to look a certain way in the game.
Most crafting professions require crafting orders in order to earn skill and knowledge points.
Weekly quests provide no skill gains and only miniscule knowledge gains.
Painfully outdated graphics in many zones and cities.
Still very few and uneven customization options for playable races.
Outdoor elites and rares are tuned like dungeon enemies.
PvP quests are too frustrating due to grouped up, geared players and unbalanced classes.
Dracthyr can only use blood elf and human for visage, instead of all races.

Dragonflight is better than battle for Azeroth and shadowlands... yes, though that isn't really anything to brag about. The former expansions were really bad.

I'd like to give my take on some of the things, which people discuss here.

Beginning with the story... well, it is not easy to continue on the shattered ground the former expansions left us with. The story in those expansions were painfully bad. So I would at least say that Dragonflight is a bit more down to earth and that is a good thing.
The story isn't really amazing, but it goes in a better direction now.
I do understand the frustration however regarding all the loose ends in Azeroth. Especially all the losses of the Alliance, with Aszhara, Ashenvale, darkshore and stormgarde, Theramore, Gilneas and Teldrassil. Some of these zones are waiting for over a decade to get updated and are still shown in their demolished state.
Yes, that is indeed sad and it takes too long, I agree. However I think there is at least some small hope now for a new tree in Dragonflight. Would be nice to get all those zones updated, yes, but at least there is hope.

I think that brings me to the next point of criticism.
The visuals should be upgraded, yes. Honestly I don't know what to add here. For the money we pay for the game there should be higher standards. Don't really think anyone would disagree on that.

The drakthyr aren't that innovative, true. Only one class and a familiar story if you played demon hunters back in Legion. However the way this race uses it's wings and tail is in my opinion really nicely done. Personlly I have fun with that race.

Racism and lgbtq, probably the most controversial part.
Yes, it is true, that there are no genders anymore, if you create a character. However body 1 and 2 still have the same features as male and female and personlly I find the lgbtq stuff in the game not as on the nose as it is here described. So even if you don't like it, you don't see it everywhere like some people claim.
Racial segregation is there with the factions Alliance and Horde and how their races are treated, true. By definition that is probably a form of racism. I can't play a Draenei for example and stay Horde and in my opinion yes, that is a very outdated mindset and I too wish, that those kind of restrictions are removed as soon as possible. It would give players so much more freedom in the game.

With the island for new characters there isn't even a starter zone needed for all the races. They could get some tents or a building or a ship... something like that in the main hubs and are ready to go. Just change some voice lines and each faction gets all races. Would be pretty amazing.

    Dragonriding and Guild Wars II.
I can't really comment on that since I've never played guild wars. So I don't know, if the animations are copied. Personlly I had fun with dragon riding in wow though. Could be better, but it is still fun.

Professions are a mess because of the overall amount of bugs, exploits and stealth nerf, which lead to a quite frustrating experience.
    Some examples:
Instransparent breaking points for higher quality items. Sometimes the required points for a higher quality are met, but it’s still lower quality. This has already been reported on beta and obviously not been fixed. Exploit for Artisans

Exploit for Artisans rep, where some people just switched between all professions and got their rep so high they could buy all the good stuff and have a huge advantage in the economy.
The Alchemy exploit from the start of the expansion. Some people finished the experiments countless times and got all Alchemy recipes on one day. There was no rollback, no bans, nothing.
    Big stealth nerf to Fishing.
    Other issues:
Huge amount of lags in some zones.
Outdated looking gear, customisation options, race models - for some races at least and outdated visuals in Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdoms and Northend.
Evoker is op, thus pvp is still a mess with so many unbalanced classes.
Same old faction restrictions, both for races that are stuck in only one facion and all the limitations for social interactions between players.
The new ui keeps resetting for some reason.
Lore is... well, very focused on love couples this expansion.
Too many reskins and reused assets instead of actual new stuff.

A mediocre expansion at best, a rather underdeveloped game at worst.

Things I like: The animations of Evoker. Awesome looking attacks and a funny dance. The new zone. Very beautiful. The evoker gets at least for wow standards a bit more customisations. Dragon riding, because it means we can fly right away without grinding. No dense faction war so far. Less chores. Talent trees.

    Murloc quest.

    Things I don't like:
Evoker is just a reskin and not a new model, can only be one class, it can only be a male blood elf and a female human in visage form. Unlike all the other dragons, who can be whatever race they want to be.
Rest of Azeroth, at least all zones before wod look hideous with such outdated visuals.
All races still have almost no customisation options. Seriously, it is 2022. What we get here is laughable. It is also rather toxic to give some races almost no options at all, while others get in comparision a lot more.
Still racial segregation like other mentioned aswell. 2022 and still racism in wow. Sorry, but that is just a no go. Let me finally have my dark iron in the Horde. Not a fan of a racist faction system at all. Never was. All races need to start neutral.
I still miss player housing in this mmo. Again, it is 2022 and no player housing...

This game plays like a Beta version.
It's insane how many bugs there are. Climbing quests, more often than not, are a mess. Hunts in Azure span 9 out of 10 times are bugged aswell. World boss, yep, also bugged. Multiple quests are bugged and don't reward you or aren't even clickable.
Considering how expensive this game is for players... no thanks. I don't spend anymore money on it. Bugs

Considering how expensive this game is for players... no thanks. I don't spend anymore money on it. Bugs aren't the only thing, which "bug" me about this game however, but so many other people already spoke about it on metacritic, so I would only echo them, I guess.
Like the horrible, horrible! looking graphics in older zones. Like... wtf is going on in this game?
As a new player... it truly feels as if they haven't spent money on wow since it first came out and that was around 2005 I think. Like seriously, the graphics are outdated.... really, really outdated and don't even get me started on those clunky character models, especially for male humans, Worgen and night elves. They look ugly, so very ugly. Why aren't those things updated? Aswell as the older zones?
Or are the devs of the opinion everyone would just buy a level boost instead of leveling through these zones? And even than, Stormwind for example is a main hub and despite of that it too looks extremely outdated. What are the devs doing with all the money they get from the players? It's really a shame.
And what is it about the racist faction system? I wasn't sure, if I should point that out, because some people might tend to call you woke and stuff, but my god is the system with Horde and Alliance racist. xD Seeing how other players pointed it out on metacritic however, I definitively want to criticize it, too.
Sorry, but being a specific race should not!!! define a faction loyalty. That is just wrong on so many levels. Jeez... Even if Horde and Alliance start yet another pointless war in the future, there is absolutely no reason to keep racial segregation. An Alliance Tauren can fight a Horde Tauren, just like all the other races can fight against eachother. Like Pandaren and Evoker they all need to have free will and free choice, instead of a hivemind mentality.

This game sure is something else, but not in a good way. I tried it for a few months and unfortunately I don't plan on playing it anymore.
I don't feel like it is worth it's money, seeing how the devs don't care for their world and races and on top of that value very questionable mindsets.

Renaming reputation for example into renown doesn’t make them any less tedious. It's still a grind fest.
Primal storms events are very lackluster, not to mention all the lags and bugs in general.
Group Loot definitely hasn’t been a massive hit and leaves many players frustrated.
Another frustrating factor of course is the strict division of playable races between factions. This game is the only big game out there, which activly makes you play stuff you don't want to, just because Ion and his crew of devs is holding on to a racist faction system as the foundation in warcraft. Enough with the dumb compromises already and let players play the faction they like and have them the races they want.
Vault still generates duplicate items to what players have equipped. Feels not really rewarding.
The Inspiration Catalyst takes 6 weeks to appear. Stop with all the time gating already.
    Loot is still terribly scarce.
Dragon riding is an ok feature, but not comparable with normal flying and only allowing dragon riding in the zone is another bad limitation.
Old zones like the warfronts in bfa for example didn't receive any updates whatsoever and are left as never ending loops. It is annoying that they are treating their game as a patchwork rug. It also shows in the outdated graphics.
Vault is still limited to 1 item out of a potential 9.
    The story is rather disjointed.
Professions are horribly designed in this expansion.
Customization options are simply a joke in this game.

But even if the world wouldn't look like a patchwork rug, the lore is just overall really bad and full of many, many retcons, that make you cringe, if you spent even the smallest amount of time trying to follow the lore from the start.

Speaking of a patchwork rug, the same goes for the visuals. you will find newer visuals inbetween lots and lots of outdated visuals, that look as if they haven't been updated for decades.

Customization options... this is a mmo, yet the customizations are... well, almost not there for playable characters. And what is it with this toxic attempt of the devs to give some races noticeably more options than others?

Speaking of races, this is the only game I know of in this age with open racism for it's races. If it would treat racial segregation as a bad thing, then I could let it slide, but open racism is treated as essential and good for the two playable factions.
Races are separated between factions, so if you like a specific race you can't pick one of the two factions. Do I need to add more? It's crazy that such a toxic and racist system is still existing in the year 2023.

The game design is also not very social. It doesn't allow us to be in a guild with players of the other faction or run lfrs or just simply trade or talk with such players. Talk about toxic game design... They really butchered the gameplay experience in a lot of aspects.

Also as someone coming from other games, where is the basic mmo stuff like dyeable gear and player housing? Warcraft is for some reason all about running m+ and raiding. The whole mmorpg feeling is completly lost in wow. It feels like an e-sport game.

Professions are overly complicated and a grind fest.

Speaking of grind, we aren't even allowed to play through the whole story in Dragonflight, because it is locked behind renown.

I also don't understand why they sell us customization options like Mecha Gnomes, Kul Tiran, Lightforged Draenei, Dark Iron, High Mountain Tauren, Zandalari etc. as entirly new races. Is an overweight human an entirly new human race or what? The mentality of the devs is really something else. Or gnomes with disabilities are apparently also a complete new race. Interesting...

And what is it with these unbalanced classes? Didn't the devs check how bad the situation is for some classes?

Well, I just quit this game. It's really a mess.

It is good to have flying without that annoying grind we had in the previous expansions. For farming and similar things it is overall very impractical though. Normal flying with a higher speed would be better. Unfortunatly normal flying and mounts aren't allowed on the dragon isles, because this game is still all about restricting players as much as possible.

Speaking of restrictions, I'm glad more and more people start to criticize the racist faction system, because it really is racist and brings out the worst in some players, who use curse words and what not against other races in this game in chat.
Yes, it's just a game, but that doesn't excuse the toxic behavior, which racial segregation evokes in the wow community, which more often than not insult other players just because of the races they'd like to play.
I never liked how the wow devs force us to choose a faction based on the the races we want to be. That's very toxic and you really have to wonder, why such things are still in the game. It's also just unnatural to strictly divide races like this, as if they woudn't have any free will. As other people pointed out, a very outdated mindset.

I thought a little about some races, which would probably be the easiest to start with, if not all races would get neutral right away.

Easy Alliance races to start with for Horde:
Lightforged Draenei, Mecha Gnomes, Dark Iron Dwarf, Kul Tiran, Gnomes, Draenei.

Lightforged Draenei and Mecha Gnomes are on top of the list, because it makes zero sense for them not to be neutral.

Dark Iron Dwarves, because there are more DIDs hostile towards the Alliance than the ones under Moira. So there surely are some, who would join the Horde. Not to mention that their whole being and look is Horde like, more so than some current Horde races btw.

Kul Tiran, because some of them already worked with the Horde against the Alliance, so there are obviously groups, who would prefer the Horde.

Gnomes, because firstly there already is a love story between a Gnome and Goblin and secondly some Gnomes surely would like to have access to Goblin's tech.

As for Draenei, well they are very forgiving and they would be a good package together with LFD.

Easy Horde races to start with for Alliance:
Highmountain Tauren, Nightborne, Goblins, Vulpera, Blood Elves, Tauren

Highmountain, Nightborne and Goblins, because it makes zero sense for them not to be neutral.

Vulpera, similar to Goblins are traders. So taking a group of traders from Kul Tiras or elsewhere for the Alliance would be very easy.

Blood Elves as High Elves already are in the Alliance. Just take away demon hunters and they are good to go.

Tauren, more than enough neutral clans. So just take one, who wants to help the Alliance.

It doesn't take much to come up with good reasons for all races being neutral and it would give players more freedom and take away some of all the toxcity in this game.
Would probably be a reason for me to resub, even though wow would still lack many features in general and is pretty far behind for a game in 2023. But at least I could finally play the faction I actually like instead of being stuck in a faction I don't like at all.

For everyone searching for honest opinions, here is my advise after reading some reviews myself: You can ignore the extremes.
Dragonflight is not a 0, there are some nice things in this expansion, however, it is also definitely not a 10.
Those, who claim this game would be flawless are lying straight in your face and want to push a better score for a very mediocre and way too expensive game, that took a lot of losses due to the horrible decisions of the devs over the last couple of years.
However those, who only complain about the amount of lgbtq+, that was put in to the game aren't really a good source of criticism about the game itself either.

With that out of the way, personally I would give Dragonflight a 5 out of 10 at best and here is why:

    Pro:
The new zone is really beautiful, like all new zones and even though most of the npcs and nature elements you see there are only reskins of old models, it still looks great.

The music is also very nice.

Less grinding and chores than usual.

The talent trees from vanilla are back.

No more ridiculous and brain afk faction war stories so far.

    Cons:

    Graphic:
Yes, the new zone looks nice... however the rest of the world really doesn't. It's been almost 2 decades, yet despite of all the money for the montly sub costst, the additional store and the costs or each new expansion we have to pay, there ist no overhaul regarding older zones.
Azeroth looks broken and like a very dirty patchwork rug with graphics, that hasn't be upgraded for over a decade.
I saw someone mentioning Stormwind and yes, that is probably the best example. It contains trees, buildings, statues, a sunny skybox, ships, some animal npcs and those poor, poor lion heads, that are still using the same graphic they had since the beginning.
I had to laugh as I've read how someone described that 5 lion head or so had been updated, while the rest was just left there with their old graphics.
It becomes clear very fast, that the devs are not putting the work in to the game, that they should.
Same goes for the character models and customisation options, which just don't give you what you would expect for a game in 2022, especially for such a high price.
    Really disappointing.

    Factions and racial segregation:
I'd also like to agree on the criticism regarding the racist faction system in wow.
As much as I like it to have 2 opposing factions in this game, the way they are handled is beyond toxic and resulted in a very serious faction imbalance. Instead of fixing the problem however, the devs made the problem worse by various acts of favoritsm.
Someone mentioned the destruction of various Alliance zones, aswell as putting all the mainstream races in Horde and even though I main Horde... because otherwise you don't get anything done anymore due to the lack of players on the Alliance side, I fully agree on that statement.
Unfortunately the devs made the situation worse again with Dragonflights by giving the Horde access to the female human model, which leaves absolutely no reason to play Alliance.
All mainstream races – blood elves, updated night elves in nightborne, Vulpera and now humans are found in the Horde.
And here of couse lies one of the biggest problems of the entire game. Racism is one of the main reasons, why there is a faction imbalance in the first place.
The race you want to play decides what faction you are allowed to join. It is a very archaic and toxic mentality, that should have been gone years ago, but here we are.
And I can see why people think of the lgbtq+ content as being hypocritical with all the racism going on in this game.
In order to bring balance back and just in general in order to get rid of such toxicity, racial segregation has to go. Every race should be allowed to be part of both factions.
Additionally of course the devs have to let us play with the other faction asap, at least make it optional.

    The Evoker:
Unfortunately this is not a new race, but by definition in wow only an allied race.
What we have here is nothing but a female Worgen reskin. A female human and a male blood elf model for visage and that's it. Don't treat it as a new race, it really isn't.
Their story is not innovative. It plays very similar to the story of demon hunters, which resulted in a rather boring experience.
They can only be one class, which makes them also rather unappealing.

The lore: So far they are ignoring all the big mistakes they made during bfa and shadowlands. Warfronts keep being warfronts despite the war being over and in general are older zones all in different time zones, which makes the world... again... look like a patchwork rug, not only because of the graphics, but also because of the lore. Conclusion: There is some nice content you can do with this expansion, however I can't recommend it due to all it's flaws and the expensive price.

I left feeling like I wasted my money yet again to be honest. This was such a loss in my book all around.

Talent trees? Well, how about they would have never removed those in the first place?
New race? Good joke. Just a scaly female Worgen and unlike other dragons we can't even use all races for visage. Why? Because the devs love restrictions.
Changeable ui? Ohhhh, great! wow reached the year 2010.
Dragon flying? Can I copy your homework, GW2?
New zone? How about you would update like 80% of the game, that is still using visuals from the early 2000s?
Actual modern customisation options with sliders, color palettes and such? Nah, we don't keep up with time here at Activision Blizzard.
Can we finally socially and freely interact with people from the other faction, joining guilds and stuff? You know, stuff you usually do in a social game like a mmo? Woah! Being social in wow? Of course not!
Did the devs finally remove racial segregation and let all playable races have their own free will and with that all races start neutral? No! We wanna keep racism as a foundation in wow. B- but look, we are totally progessive by removing genders! Right?!

I could go on. Just not a game worth spending time and money on.

Speaking of low effort, there are no new customisation options for the other races. It is so embarrassing how far behind this game is... in so many aspects. Same goes for visuals in so many zones. They never fix old zones. They just keep them with their old visuals and outdated lore like the warfronts to name only one of many examples, which are stuck in an endless loop, despite the dumb and forced war being over. Or other zones, who are literally using graphics from 2005... it is so embarrassing how this game looks.

But why do we have to be genderless in order to not offend anyone, while at the same time being forced to participate in a racist faction system? Why are almost all races treated as if they have a hivemind, instead of free will?

That is definitely not a new race and shouldn't be treated as one.

The new zone looks nice and I can give some points for that, but what is up with all the other zones in that game? You would think with such age old graphics, that you are still stuck in 2004. Very, very bad looking.

Unfortunately they didn't update the playable races, which means that races like night elves for example are still stuck with a very ugly looking model and what is it with these devs, that males always look like they are on stereoids and cranky old man? In general male... or now "body 1" humanoids look like clunky gorillas. They really aged very poorly.

Dragon riding... yeah well, others already criticized that. At least give credit, if you have to copy other people's homework, Blizzard.

I also noticed all the lgbtq pandering. I mean, fine, if you have to. But how about you remove the obvious toxic aspect in your game?
    Racism.
It's the very first thing you let your players participate in.

As an Alliance player I hoped that the devs would finally stop being so biased and start caring for the Alliance... I was wrong. Very, very wrong.

To give you some examples for what I mean by the devs being biased and toxic:

    - Teldrassil, Theramore, Gilneas, Ashenvale and probably some areas I forgot were all destroyed by the Horde and we never got them back in game.
They still are presented as being destroyed and under attack.
    - Stormgarde and darkshore are also destroyed by the Horde and are now stuck in a never ending loop of being a warfront.
Again, we never got them back.
All these zones and cities are left looking like trash now, thanks to the Horde.

Yet the Horde never lost that much and even though they were the aggressor, attacking Alliance zones again and again, they got Undercity immediately back, after they poisoned that place themselves.
    - Night Elves and Worgen meanwhile are getting ignored and are still being refugees in Stormwind.
And they didn't even care to update Stormwind. It uses graphics from 2004...

So the abuser is being rewarded and the victims... nothing. How fair.

    Playable races:

    - Space goats for Alliance vs the only halfway decent looking humanoid race in that game, blood elves for Horde,
Updated night elves/nightborne with now even more customisation options than night elves with a gigantic zone, the biggest city in the entire game and rich lore for the Horde vs copy&paste blood elves with terrible and very few hair styles, almost no customisation options, no zone, no city... they literally live in small tents on a rock... and almost no lore for the Alliance.
    - Better looking trolls, that use the night elf model vs... overweight and way too big humans...

    - And the biggest insult, the only new race Vulpera, a mainstream fox race, that could be straight out of a Disney movie vs... a customisation option for gnomes, the least played race in the entire game.

And these are only some examples of the devs and their toxic behavior. Yet they claim to have no idea why there are almost no players left on the Alliance... sigh

With dragonflights I hoped that we could at least get a zone for the night elves back and Gilneas for the Worgen. Nothing. We got nothing.

Not only that, with the new dragon race they gave the Horde the very last halfway decent looking race on the Alliance side for the Horde, female human + the female Worgen model on top of that.

Just wow. Well then, this was my last attempt of giving this game a chance. I don't want to be forced to pick the favorite faction of the devs. in order to be able to play this game, because the few, who are left playing this game are almost all on the red side.

    Not wow though.
It forces you to pick a side soley based on... yes, on race.

Makes you wonder in what century the devs are liviing with this kind of mindset.
So yes, except for Pandaren and Evoker all races apparently have a hivemind mentality and can't join a faction freely.
Making racial segregation the biggest limitation for players is not just in general very questionable, it is also extremely annoying for players, who just want to play their favorite faction with their favorite races.
Together with cross faction gameplay we could finally play where we want, what we want and with whom we want.
But nope. Can't have that with Blizzard.

So instead of removing racial segregation after almost two decades, they are trying very hard to make us believe, that they are progressive due to all the lgbtq content and the removal of genders.

Think about all the lgbtq+ what you want, it falls flat the minute you use your brain and look at the very first thing Blizzard makes you do. Take part in racial segregation.
Races in this game can't just choose the faction they feel connected to, making their own individual decisions. Oh no, Blizzard makes almost all races use a hivemind mentality.
Wanna make a dwarf and play Horde? NO!
Wanna make a Tauren and play Alliance? NO!

So yeah, Blizzard wants to keep racism and at the same time wants you to think of them as being progressive. it's actually really funny how dumb that is.

Ah well, the new race is just a reskin, talent trees are back, which is nice, but it is certainly not a new feature, dragonriding is simply copied from another game and well... there really is nothing new in this expansion.
Pretty insolent, if you think about how expensive this game is.

Fully agree with others, who say the graphics etc. are outdated. I really wonder what they do with all the money they take from their players.

Still racism all over the place.
Playable races are still stricly seperated, meaning you have to look a certain way, to be in one of the 2 playable factions. I don't want to compare it to real life events, but the whole racial segregation concept in wow... yikes.

The lore is very bad and just ignores old lore, instead of fixing all the mistakes of the last two expansions.

We still can't play with the other faction, stuff like guilds, lfr, lfd etc. Meaning the devs just keep on ignoring the obvious faction imbalance, which they costs.

Standard features like player housing for example is still non-existent in this game.

I want to update in saying that none of my opinions are related to anything regarding lgbtqia. My opinions are strictly about the quality of the game and my thoughts on why they do things Blizzard does. I don’t care what character is gay, bi, trans, inclusion is always appreciated for everyone to see characters they can relate to. What I do not condone is a lackluster game coupled with what feels like very minimal effort throughout the alpha/beta to solve problems during the testing phase.

There's an abundance of cringe, they keep adding retcons and no offense, but it's quite odd how almost everyone on the dragon isles is suddenly a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
Especially when you compare it to the game's setting of the past 17 years or so. Not that they can't include it if they want, but when out of nowhere almost everyone is portrayed this way, it feels a bit forced.
It's also peculiar to introduce something like this more or less overnight while maintaining strict racial divisions between the Alliance and the Horde.
So lgbtq+ is great, but racism is also great? Really?

It comes across as hypocrisy, trying to gain some sympathy points, that they've lost due to numerous dubious decisions in recent years.

The rest is just the usual stuff that's been written about countless times by others.
It seems the devs are only interested in raids and microtransactions. The rest is a lackluster pile of outdated content, where they don't bother to improve or bring it in line with today's standards.

    - Still, strict racial separation between playable factions, leading to sorting purely based on appearance.
    - Perhaps only 20% of the graphics in the world are at an acceptable level; the rest is extremely outdated.
    - Social restrictions between factions are still abundant for players.
    - Hairstyles and dances are strictly separated among playable races, rather than being shared to provide more options for everyone.
    - Apart from raids and general m+, the content remains quite thin.

Honestly, I could continue this list further, but I believe the point has been made.
Despite all of this, they still demand monthly subscription fees, additional costs for expansions and tons of purchasable items in the store. Ultimately, this game is pay-to-win, despite the monthly fees. It is entirely inappropriate and overall, the game is far from being up to date.

Many, many, many microtransactions, unbalanced classes, outdated graphics, limited customization, a lazy Worgen reskin for a "new" race, which can't use all races for visage, despite being a dragon and a perceived focus on performative woke elements in the story have culminated in a lackluster experience, too. And as mentioned by other people, it's plain hypocritical, considering that the whole game is still holding on to racial segregation and with that a racist concept for Horde and Alliance. And it seems as if the devs don't plan to change their racist corner stone of the game.
I had hoped for innovation, engaging content and a fresh direction, but no, same old content, minimal effort from the devs.

My experience has been tinged with disillusionment. The expansion's direction and content have not lived up to my expectations, leaving me with a mix of frustration and regret... yet again, because bfa and shadowlands were really lackluster, too.

The new race looks ridiculous, like really ridiculous. They probably just put some scales on a female worgen model and called it a day, lol. And even though dragons in that universe can choose what they want to look in visage, well, these guys can't for some reason, so players are stuck with a male blood elf model and a female human model. They made both of them look like drag queens for some reason.
The typical stuff like almost non existent customisation options and clunky avatar models. Racial segregation for Alliance and Horde, because the devs love their glorified racism system. Still no player housing, even though we are in mid 2023. Dozens of currencies to upgrade the gear, only to be useless with the next patch again in order to force players to buy each and every month, same with the trader's post, which only exists because the devs love FOMO/fear of missing out, because again, the sub fee is still a thing, despite all of the microtransactions. And finally a world, that looks like a patchwork rug when it comes to graphics.

The little content that exists is heavily stretched so that players are forced to keep paying every month. The newly introduced trading post is designed to trigger a fear of missing out (FOMO) among players, again with the purpose of ensuring monthly subscription payments to not miss out on any items.

The developers stick to an extremely racist system, forcing players to choose a faction solely based on the race they want to be. The graphics and customization options could be from the early 2000s. Still no player housing. The new playable race is a complete joke and uses an old model; they didn't even bother to create two genders for that race, showing the laziness of the developers.

There are two factions and as a new player, you get no information about these factions except that they operate on a racist system. You want to be a certain race, but you have zero freedom to choose which side to join. It operates on a deplorable racial segregation principle. I mean, seriously?

The second impression: The humanoid races look completely ridiculous. It's as if the designers had only a rough idea of the human body (applies to the elves as well) and haphazardly pieced them together. The result is blocky old men on steroids with deformed Barbie dolls as their female counterparts. The craftsmanship in this game is truly amateurish.

Then the third impression: Laughable customization options. Not only are there hardly any options available, but the few that exist are completely outdated. No different body models, no sliders for muscles, body size, etc. Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Then you enter the world and are greeted with graphics that leave much to be desired and likely haven't received updates since the game's release in 2005. Well, that's not entirely true. Some spots here and there look newer than others, which makes the overall picture even worse because you have the new mixed with the ancient.

And the story... My goodness, not only is it completely jumbled up in different zones, making little to no sense in the end, but there are also constant inconsistencies that contradict what happened before.
The game is riddled with retcons and utterly bizarre story elements. You rarely see something so utterly ridiculous.

I could go on, but I think this review is already long, so I'll leave it at that.
I don't think I need to mention that I don't plan on continuing to play WoW. Moreover, I find it quite audacious how many microtransactions they've stuffed in, considering that every new expansion needs to be purchased separately and on top of that, there's a monthly subscription fee. For the junk they're serving to players? No thanks. I'm surprised that there are still people willing to put up with this garbage, but to each their own, I guess.

Now, let's get into their visage form. These poor dragonkin are either stuck looking like a male Blood Elf or a female Human. Which is pretty lame, considering that in the WoW universe, dragons can look like whatever they want. I mean, we've seen dragons that look like Tauren, Vulpera, Gnoms and what not for crying out loud. Clearly, this is just another example of the devs being lazy and not wanting to put in the effort to give us all playable races.
And don't even get me started on the continued race segregation. It's like they're stuck in the past or something, still dictating what faction you have to choose based on your race. We should have moved past this kind of restrictive game design.

Another big bummer with Dragonflight is the absence of player housing. This feature has been requested by the player base for years, and it seems the devs just turned a deaf ear to it. And the state of the professions in this expansion? Don't even get me started. I find the end game incredibly convoluted and I highly doubt I’m alone in that thought and without any fun side activities... well, not really worth spending time in this game.

Time-gating continues to be a major issue, too. It's just a thinly veiled attempt to extend the life of the content artificially and it's annoying as heck. And the dragon riding feature, while cool in theory, just feels like a poor imitation of what Guild Wars 2 has been doing for years. And as for the customization options for the races? They're so bare-bones it's laughable.

Oh, and let's not forget about the story. It's like the creative team just phoned it in.

Dragonflight feels like a massive missed opportunity. It's clear the developers didn't put the time and effort into making this expansion the best it could be.

As many have already written, it's pretty intense that the devs think a racist faction system is still cool in 2023. Not only has it constantly led to disputes among players over the years when one faction gets a mainstream race and the other gets junk, but it's also simply outdated to determine loyalty based on race.
I mean, sorry, but how toxic do you have to be as a dev to choose racism, of all things, as the deciding factor for which of the two factions you can join?

Also often noted are the laughably outdated graphics when it comes to avatar models and their minimal customization options, as well as the completely outdated world graphics and all the missing features that an MMO should have had for a decade now, but are still not present in WoW.

So sorry, but anyone who thinks that with Dragonflight, WoW has finally caught up with modern times and other games will be sorely disappointed.

Some of the worst class balancing I have ever seen. Why? There should be weekly updates. I don't think they play their own game.

PVP being easy to gear was a lie. Blue vs conquest set is 100k health, 10% main stat, and tier bonus. Damage with cooldowns is multiplicative so you have no chance! No real catchup system. There should not be a gear difference in pvp, as in : 0.00% and if there are tier bonuses then everybody should get it.

Naxx / tier3 has a completely unnecessary grind. Not only do you need lots of RNG farming and millions of gold, you need someone with full tier3 to craft tier3. Who thought that was a good idea? It should have been an unlock like old scholomance and be old naxx period.

Dragon"flight" is gliding with extra steps. It isn't like flying. It is more suited for a minigame. And stolen from GW2.

Raid/m+ or die...again. Rated pvp only for select classes/specs. Solo shuffle should have a mode without healers. Unnecessary barrier of entry for everything.

3rd failed expansion in a row. Wasn't going to bother but I wanted to see the Naxx content. Big mistake as trying to get tier3 isn't worth it.

Timegated and limited gear drops feels predatory. Quality of the game now feels like a free to play.

Honestly, of all the games I know, WoW has by far the worst-written story. It contradicts itself in numerous places, giving the impression that the people writing it have no idea what happened in the lore before.
And it's not getting any better; quite the opposite. While Legion at least had a mediocre quality in terms of story, the quality plummeted from the end of Legion/beginning of BFA. The same applies to Shadowlands and now Dragonflight.

Additionally, for some reason, almost every NPC on the Dragon Isles is LGBTQ+. Considering the previous expansions, this suddenly comes out of nowhere and is everywhere. Some of it is okay, but does it really need to be the main theme everywhere consistently?
Especially because it's hard to take seriously from a company like Blizzard. While everything has been painted in rainbow colors, the underlying structure is still as racist as ever, as there is still racial separation for Horde and Alliance.
So instead of appearing inclusive, Blizzard comes off as particularly hypocritical with Dragonflight.

In short, for anyone looking to try the game for its story, I would strongly advise against it.

Things like the new playable race, which is nothing more than a lazy reskin that can't even wear anything and the poorly executed imitation of GW2 dragon riding are pretty much the only new things, and even that isn't really new.
And now they've introduced the second content patch, and once again, there's nothing new, just the same stuff with a new name. How about caring for all your social problems for exampe, like your toxic limitations and the glorified racism in game, which you force your players to participate in? Naaah, let's put something new in the store instead!

I stopped playing Dragonflight. All it feels to me is a simular WOW Catacylsm.

    - nothing really new with the classes - Literally just made covenant spells to talents that make no sense and don't match the current spec. For example, why is a soul rot blue magic when it doesn't feel like it meets the shadow and fire a Warlock is supposed to be. Convoke the spirits should be reskinned

For example, why is a soul rot blue magic when it doesn't feel like it meets the shadow and fire a Warlock is supposed to be. Convoke the spirits should be reskinned to be green to match the rest of the druid spells.

-it's great they removed covenants and dumb grinds but it just feels stale as an expansion.

    - the new class only came out with 2 talents. Can't stay in human form unfortunately...

-Why is dracythr a race instead of a class? Like Demon hunters are their own class but fall under blood elf or night elf. Dracythr are just a human dragon thing that cant xmog or do anything cool. Why are they considered Dracythr when it's just a dragon and a human form?

-the new flying is alright, but it literally makes the new mounts useless in cities like orgrimmar and previous mounts can't do anything in the new zones.

-I am a more casual player but I did do was mythic + and LFR. Got bored of it easily since some of the dungeons i've played IN OLD EXPANSIONS.

-It was a nice feel to it, however just stale in my opinion. I wish we could have a lot cooler talents with long cooldowns.

overally the expansion was good, but they played it safe and didn't do anything to make the game feel better besides remove all of the awful systems previously in place.

Another thing that bothers me is how for MM you are at a dps loss when you have a pet. Also you are at a loss in DPS if you have 1 pet as BM hunter. Why can't we get a glyph or something to fix this?

A 2 for the scenery and the dragon riding (which they copy pasted from Guild Wars 2). It boils down to raid/m+ or die, and the rest of the gameplay is more or less just the same as it was 10 years ago. The new race looks bad and lazy beyond belief. This has been my 5th restart of wow over the last 14 years, and most certainly my last.

Dragonflight will be a history lesson on how to kill a game in a single patch, 10.1.5. My expectations for Blizzard games and WoW are rock-bottom, but yet they can release a patch that is worse than my lowest expectations.

The game balance is completely broken beyond repair, the worst it has ever been.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pros:

    - The levelling experience was good
    - Vault of the Incarnates was not a bad raid
    - Having a mixture of mythic+ current content and past content makes it much more fresh.
    - The environment and atmosphere is worse than it was in Shadowlands, but is still satisfactory.

    Cons:

-There is no sense of accomplishment in any content. If you begin a season at the start, anything you do will be devalued by the 20 waves of nerfs to dungeons, affixes, raid bosses and dungeon bosses. This can be resolved by taking the time to balance the game and not making content too difficult to begin with, something Blzzard is unfamiliar with,
    - The class talent rework is the literal definition of illusion of choice. There is 1 choice. Minmax single target tree or Minmax aoe tree.
    - The story is more Disney cartoon than Fantasy RPG. The Dracthyr look ridiculous, the dragonflight are a copy paste of Power Rangers. The Villains are obvious and boring.
    - I have no interest in the lore. I don't care for the Dracthyr. I don't care for the Dragonflight. I don't care for the Dragon Isles. I don't care for Dracthyr Commander #3 being the end raid boss and the 38 second cinematic of him dying that follows.
    - Addons are a requirement and not an option.

One of the many cheap tactics to keep players with too much time on their hands subscribed by forcing them to participate in a never ending grind.
The "new" race Evoker doesn't even get a new model and is just a reskin. And despite it being the half baked reskin, that kinda works like worgen with blood elf and human for the visage form, the devs don't let us use all playable races for visage. So what we have here is a female worgen reskin as a "Dragon" race, that is not only locked to just one class, but also locked to only blood elf and human, despite the fact, that dragons can look however they want to look... In short, evoker is a complete failure.
Dragon racing and dragon riding is a cheap copy from GW2's system. In wow however that system feels rushed and unfinshed. You have a ton of "political correctness" in Dragonflight with many lgbtq npcs all over the place. But despite Blizzard pretending to be political correct after a certain lawsuit went public, they kept racism in the game. You are still forced to choose a faction based on race. If you are a certain race you can't enter cities of the second faction, can't talk to certain other races, can't trade, can't quest together and most importantly, you can't join the second faction. So yes, Blizzard pretrends to be political correct by going the lazy way and quickly turning a bunch of npcs gay, trans or whatever and by removing genders and making all players non-binary, but the core problem of the game stays the same. Of course hypocrisy is nothing new here, if you know a little bit about the devs behind this game.
I can at least give some credit for the amazing soundtrack this games has.
However, Blizzard charge their players monthly sub costs, the cost for the expansion and a ton of microtransactions and I'm sorry, but that's just too much money they want for such a underdeveloped and outdated game. I mean, they don't even care to give that 18somthing year old world a visual overhaul. Sorry, but most zones and cities look ugly af.
There are many more issues of course, but even writing about wow is frustrating, since I have to realise, that this is now the third time in a row I wasted my money on this game. Ah well, at least I can share my feedback here. Maybe it helps some peeps. Unfortunately this game is no longer for me. I gave it plenty of chances, because i want it to be good, but there seems to be an obvious lack of passion when it comes to the developers of this game.

I guess with the tons of new LGBTQ content they hastily stuffed in, they really want to reach that group and appear as tolerant as possible. But honestly, it's just ridiculous when you consider that they also want to retain racists on their side by keeping the ancient Horde and Alliance faction system. Because it's not your values that matter, but your race. The freedom for all races to choose whom they are loyal to doesn't exist except for Pandaren and Evoker. It's still strictly sorted by race, not by the cause you stand for.
And honestly, claiming to be tolerant because there's suddenly so much LGBTQ representation while keeping racism unchanged... well, that's just laughable.
They seem to have no idea which group they want to appeal to in general. Now with Dragonflight, it seems like they want to attract mainly young children, but just two expansions ago, they let one of the playable factions commit genocide one after another.
So no offense, but maybe they should decide who the game is for. It's drifting in very opposite directions.
Overall though, wow just isn't fun anymore. Seems as if they put more effort in to microtransactions than in actual content.

Outdated graphics, no player housing, gear that is painted directly on the player's character model instead of normal 3d armor, which every modern game uses by now, outdated restrictions like racial segregation, so that we can't play our preferred faction with our preferred races... very progressive here, Blizzard... not. And anti social gameplay design with Horde and Alliance in general. Like... we can't do sh* together like just leveling and stuff. Wow is built on a very toxic and antisocial foundation and yes, it shows in the remaining playerbase.
Grinding and crafting in this expansion is so bad, that you would think the game is built towards people with no lives where the only way to enjoy the expansion is to stop living your life and devote it entirely to this game. They even locked the story behind a gigantic grind wall (Renown). Not that the story in this game would be good, because it certainly isn't, but they even build a wall around basic stuff like that.
Like... there are so many restrictions, limitations, grinding, horrible loot, crafting orders, toxic restrictions, lack of basic features and outdated graphics... it's ridiculous how this game is filled with time consuming brainlessly chores and full of short leashes for the players, so that they can't have freedom and fun.

Unfortunately, this is already the third disappointment in a row that Blizzard has served, as Battle For Azeroth and Shadowlands were also absolute garbage. Dragonflight will soon receive it's first content patch, but what has been shown in it is basically the same old boring stuff that they've been serving for almost two decades now.

It's nice that they finally recognize, after almost 20 years, that dividing players into two factions and not letting them play together is extremely harmful, but they still only allow minimal improvements with cross faction guilds, which still have plenty of restrictions that continue to make the gameplay catastrophic.
At the forefront, of course, as many have already mentioned, is the fact that you can't even do simple things like choosing your favorite faction along with your favorite races. Why? Because the developers apparently want to cling desperately to their racial segregation in the game. Apparently, they still think that racism is super cool as the foundation of their game. It's really just puzzling.

Well, that's nothing new, though. So, to get back to this expansion, there's really nothing worth mentioning.
For example, the new race Dracthyr isn't really new at all, but just an old model with scales and a tail, as well as wings glued on. To save time, the Dracthyr have only one gender and can't even wear clothes. Nope, that's not a joke. They can only take on the form of a male blood elf and a female human in visage, whom they gave a bit more makeup and colorful hair. According to Blizzard, that is a brand new race...

Dragon Riding is already known in a better form in Guild Wars 2. Here in WoW, they just copied it without making it as interesting as in GW2. And that's all there is to new features.

So if there isn't anything significant coming soon, this expansion can also be considered a failure again. There's more to criticize, but it's probably already been mentioned by others.

No player housing, almost no customization options -have fun with your nine hair styles, lol, seriously, wow is even worse than many mobile games with it' customizations, no dyable gear, 2 decade old graphics without any upgrades whatsoever in old zones, almost no emotes for characters, a racist faction system that is still treated as a good system.
    Like wtf?
How are the developers still fine with a systematic separation of playable races instead of just giving players free faction choice? Do they not understand how living beings (yes even in a game) work? Or do they miss the old days in the USA and want to live that out in their game? Imagine socially enforced separation in 2023, that is treated as a pillar of this game's structure. Big yikes.
It's just a very awkward mindset in this game, which is enforced on it's players and takes also away a big chunk of player freedom.

Also the fact that so much is behind gates. Story, professions, raid and so on. I don’t want to have to grind rep to just find out the story or actually play the game. The story isn't worth grinding for anyway. Slightly better maybe than the mess that was bfa and shadowlands, but still very awful. You would have to obliterate the first half of bfa and all of shadowlands, if you would try to fix this mess.

The so called new stuff in Dragonflight isn't good either and on top of that all the bugs in this expansion....
Instead of creating a new race the developers just took the female Worgen model and put scales on it and this reskin is just... ok, that is my opinion, but it is so very ugly... The body is just so... uncanny-valley. Just really weird looking and since you can't transmog clothes you either take their standard outfit or run around naked. Yes, literally. Just nope. It doesn't help that this race can only be one class and only use female human and male blood elf for visage either. In my opinion a big failure.
Professions as already mentioned are overly complicated, gated and just awful and dragonriding is maybe fun for some hours but it get's tiresome really soon.

2 out of 10. Without big improvements this game won't see me again. So my advice atm: Stay away from Dragonflight. It will safe you a lot of frustration and money.

I assume that particularly the racism in the game stands out. Don't get me wrong, you can of course have racism in games, but it becomes problematic when something like this is treated as good and necessary, and that is the case in wow. The very first thing a player has to do, because they have no choice, is to choose a faction based on the race they want to be.
This means that they are sorted purely based on their appearance and not on the values they represent.
So racial segregation is still the norm here, even after twenty years, and it is portrayed as important.

You can think about it what you want, but for one thing, I find it extremely limiting for players who cannot freely choose their faction, and ethically speaking, it is obviously not up to date.

But unfortunately, that is not the only thing that is not up to date.

The game is designed in such a way that you have to constantly chase a carrot on a stick instead of making real MMORPG content.

That means grinding until you drop with stupid and constantly repetitive tasks.
Then there is the really terribly outdated graphics. They basically just slap a new island in every expansion and completely ignore the rest of the world, which is now almost two decades old. This creates terrible contrasts that really hurt your eyes, but apparently, they don't care.

The story... you rarely see something this bad.
While there were still a few good aspects here and there until Legion, since the last patch of Legion and the prepatch of Battle for Azeroth, it has been a pure disaster, and Dragonflight is unfortunately no exception.

Anyone, who is coming from other mmos will completely miss standard features like player housing and reasonable customization options for playable characters here.
Player housing doesn't exist, and the customization options for races are extremely limited and at a level that might have been acceptable ten years ago but certainly not today.

Professions are now a complete mess and are no longer fun.

The classes are still very unbalanced and proper cross faction play with lfr, chat, trading, etc. is still not possible.
They are extremely slow in opening up new options because they apparently find it so incredibly terrible to allow their players to play with other players in their MMO.

As a new feature there are the Evokers this time, but they too are a disappointment.
In dragon form they look like female worgen with scales and in humanoid form they only gave them female humans and male blood elves instead of all races.
This race is just extremely lazy, sorry.

Dragon riding is unfortunately just a bad copy of Guild Wars 2 and not really fun.
I would almost prefer the old flight system.

All in all another disappointment and I cannot recommend Dragonflight to anyone.

"new system for players to further personalize their character and their expierences within World of Warcraft", "even more ways to add to their collections and express themselves everywhere they go in Azeroth". This is what they wrote in their newest blue post about the coming patch. Wanna have a translation what that really means?

A new FOMO tactic in form of the trading post that requires an active sub, for which we have to pay monthly. Only then you will get the currency for the transmogs, pets and mounts the trading post will sell. Also the amount of coins you will get each month is of course limited and the items in the trading post will vanish after the end of each month. Quite obvious, that this is a new way of Blizzard trying to force collectors to stay subscribed.

    But it doesn't end there.
If the rest of the game would stay true to what Blizzard is saying "we want you to express yourself in the game", then I wouldn't even have a big problem with such an obvious FOMO trap.

However this game is anything but "freely express yourself". It's all about restrictions.

"Express yourself the way you want to BUT you can't play almost half of the races in the faction you prefer, because we value racial segregation as really, really good for our 2 faction system."

"Express yourself BUT if you want to be good in pve and pvp you better don't play certain specs or whole classes, because we have no idea how class balance works."

"Espress yourself BUT you better don't play the smaller faction, because we caused massive faction imbalance and you will have a really hard time finding groups and guilds there."

"Express yourself BUT don't expect actual customisation options and be grateful for your 8 face options and 9 hair colors. If you want more options play another race, but all races will certainly not get basic things like sliders or color palettes, because we simply don't care to keep customisations fair between races and put the least amount of effort towards customisations. Maybe you get 3 more hair colors for one of the races, if we're feeling extra generous! "

Sorry for that little rant there, but Blizzard's newest blue post about saying players in wow could freely express themselves in this game really got me the wrong way, because it is a such a big lie.

Dragonflight is just a little less annoying to play than Shadowlands and Battle For Azeroth. That's basically it. That's why I largely agree with the negative reviews on this platform.
Class balance is still horrible. Even worse if you play the new mode, solo shuffle.

Dragon riding is fun at first, but it doesn’t ‘go anywhere gameplay-wise. All it is is transportation in the dragon isles from the start instead of making us complete that horrible pathfinder system from before. For gathering however it's a pain in the butt and it is also annoying that due to dragon riding we are tied to only four mounts instead of all our mounts.
Professions this time around are even worse than before. Inflation on the AH is really nasty.
I feel like toxicity is growing thanks largely to the decisions on Blizzard’s part. I saw quite a lot of people point that out already. They still keep the playable races very strictly separated between Horde and Alliance. This not only led to the faction imbalance in this game, but also constantly to heated discussions how unfair races are portioned and even though I main Horde I can see the frustration.
In bfa for example they gave us a highly requested race, while the Alliance received a very ugly customisation option for gnomes. Kinda makes you think. Or nightborne for example with their huge city, zone, lore and so on vs. a copy and paste belf version for Alliance, just uglier and without a zone, city and so on. An improved troll allied races vs and uglier human race wasn't helping either or only destroying Alliance zones, while keeping Horde zones all intact.
The faction system in wow doesn't really work with devs that can't stay neutral. Though personally I want to keep 2 factions, I am too all for making the races neutral and making more cross faction stuff like guilds and so on. It could reduce toxicity and would lead to a more healthy gameplay design for players. Would also allow me to finally play Draenei on Horde, which would be pretty neat. So that's my 2 cents about that topic.
Continuing with my review, same grindy systems that were put into this game to increase play time like the renown grind.
The talent trees are kinda messy, their talent switching system doesn’t work properly.
They added all kinds of external systems to capitalize on the players addiction to completionism like now the trading post. If the items were permanent this would be a nice small addition to the game, but the way it works... just no thanks. There is already too much FOMO in this game and I'm still bitter about the Mage Tower skins.

Crafting and profession system is made even more confusing and is now hard to get into.
The fact that the main quest line is rep locked made me instantly stop caring about it.
Customization options for races? Player housing... um... what customization? What player housing?
Meaningful world content and visual overhaul? Good joke.

If you are only looking for m+ content this game might be ok enough for you, just pick the right classes because of the severe class imbalance, but raids and dungeons are pretty much the only thing the devs seem to care for.

I agree with others on metacritic too, though. Stuff like the racist faction system with it's toxic separation for playable races is horrible and not fitting for this century anymore. You have no free choice, if you want to be a certain race. Because everything in this game is divided and restricted to no end. It's awful.
They also bring the servers down to fix their item shop, while so much around it is on fire. Scaling problems all over, idk why there's so many echants with an ilvl cap when you can't even use it because you zoom past the ilvl.
So many zones are broken into multiple timelines now, there's no consistency with the open world anymore. Just a personal laundry list of complaints piling up.

Now with Dragonflight we get another stale expansion with nothing new on the table. It is such a boring expansion, that I felt bored after just 3 days. New record.

Now the devs always claim they want to give players more freedom to express themselves in the game. But guess what, that doesn't mean we are finally able to play whatever race we want in our favorite faction, you know, being free to be, who we want to be.
Instead it actually means we get some more recolors of age-old transmog sets, maybe even 3 more hair colors for one of the many races... or not. Right now not a single race got any more customization options, not to mention how uneven the options are between the races and in general all of them have way too few options.
What else? Ah yes, while Blizzard thinks it is completely legit to keep racism, they take away genders. Because nothing says more freedom of expression like taking away the option to be male or female. All players have to be non-binary.
You gotta love all the freedom in this game.

Dragonflight's oh so great (and only) new feature is dragonriding, straight up copied from guild wars 2.

Apart from these things there is nothing really new about this expansion and well, the stuff above is not really my taste.

Dragonflight was Blizzard's chance to show the community they were serious about restoring the IP, and all they did was revert to the same tactics to take more money from it’s players with tedious, repetitive and frustrating tasks.
And yeah, I saw the critism about racial segregation. Make it plus one, because it really sucks to have something like that still in the game.
Blizzard has also made being a caster completely unfun and a tedious slog of constant movement for mechanics that don’t affect melee or allow melee to continue to move while sidestepping. They don’t seem to really understand where the imbalance is so they’re blindly throwing everything at the wall. It’s like they don’t even play their own game. When you gut specs without a clue, it invalidates the choices players made and disrespects their time just like the racist faction system. Players shouldn't feel forced to play certain things, if they don't want to.
Class imbalance needs to be fixed asap, just like all races need to be neutral. Otherwise this game continues to be that annoying and frustrating mess, which it has been for years.

Since it is a mmoRPG you would think, well, just enjoy the rpg aspect then. Yeah, no. You simply can't. I fully agree on the stuff other people on metacritic already said.
Sorry, if that sounds a bit rude, but the rpg part in wow is absolute garbage.

    Playable races:
1.) Have outdated and clunky models.
2.) Have almost no customization options.
3.) Are still segregated between factions. If you want to be a dwarf for example, but also want be loyal to the Horde... forget it. You can't choose your favorite faction and your favorite races because of the archaic divide in this game.

    Player housing?
There is no player housing in this mmoRPG

    How about the story?
During wow's prime times (wrath and Legion) the story was fine, but still mediocre. Yet still good enough to enjoy it. For the last couple of years however it's trash full of retcons and cringe storytelling.

    How about exploring the world?
Not only are the graphics very outdated as pointed out by many people already, it's a complete patchwork rug regarding the story. The devs simply don't care for the world and that shows.

Ok... then, no rpg aspect to enjoy in this game, no raiding... how about pvp?
    Again, huge class imbalance.

Sorry, but there is just no reason to play this game at the moment.

Same goes for other zones like Gilneas for example. It's been over 10 years and all those zones and many more are just left their in a state, which doesn't represent the current lore. Let alone the outdated graphics.

Graphics are a problem in general, just like lackluster customization options.
As a hunter for example I've waited for who knows how many years now for wolves to get updated. Did they get an update with dragonflight? Nope. They look just like they did during Vanilla. No updates for almost 2 decades. That's just not ok for such a big company like Blizzard.
I want to play in a world that feels alive and up to date, not in a world that is left with the devs not caring for it and leaving it as it is.

That's why I can't really enjoy the Dragon Isles. It feels like the devs give you a crumble in form of dragon isles, which is just there to distract you from a mouldy cake, which is Azeroth.

Class imbalance is a dumpster fire in this expansion. Unplayable specs.
    Broken profession system.
Customizations are like from a game from 2009, so little is there to choose and on top of that some races get noticeably less than other races.
Story is really cringe, similar to bfa and shadowlands. It's also weird that the "Champion" of Azeroth just defeated the "Jailer" yesterday and today can't even handle some gnolls or a dragon, which makes bad weather.
Graphics never get updated. Considering this game is almost 20 years old... yes, older zones and even the capitals look hideous.
Solo and in general casual content is almost not there. This game still makes almost everything about raiding. That's one of the many reasons why this game isn't appealing.
I only gave it 3 points out of 10 because it is at least a bit better than bfa and shadowlands, but as soon as my sub runs out... bye bye.
There are not enough fun things in this game and it is so far behind other games and it annoys me that they still keep such racist aspects, that I really don't feel like supporting Blizzard any longer. Dragonflight doesn't really bring anything noteworthy to the table. The Dracthyr look incredibly ugly, only have one gender, and can't even wear clothes. They even use the female Worgen model instead of getting their own. Being lazy seems to be a big thing with the devs these days. The visage form is also a joke, as they only allow female humans and male Blood Elves, even though they're supposed to be dragons and all races should be available.

Dragon riding was poorly copied from Guild Wars 2 and that's about it for the new features. The rest is just the old concept: grinding until you drop, only to start over again with the next patch. Send as much real money as possible to Blizzard to buy tokens, which you can then use to buy gear for m+, etc., only to miss out on more money with the next patch and start all over again.

The game is just really bad, and as others have mentioned, all the restrictions, especially with faction choice, which is still dominated by the archaic race separation, well... playing wow just isn't fun and with Dragonflight, they're just repeating the same old stuff that hardly anyone can stand anymore.

Dragonflight, the newest expansion, has me left disappointed with its lackluster features, numerous bugs, and outdated design choices. While some may still find enjoyment in the game, it's hard to overlook the significant flaws that plague this expansion.

One of the biggest problems with Dragonflight is the number of bugs. From game-breaking glitches to minor annoyances, the sheer volume of bugs makes the game feel unfinished and unpolished. It's frustrating to encounter problems that could have easily been fixed before release.

Another issue is the class imbalance, which makes certain classes feel op while others are left in the dust. It's a problem that has been present in previous expansions, but it's disappointing to see it still exists in Dragonflight.
The profession and crafting system is another letdown, with few improvements made from previous expansions.
Despite the game's longevity, there is still no player housing system. This is a common feature in modern MMOs, and its absence in wow is a significant disappointment for players who want to create a personal space in the game. Additionally, many modern MMO features are lacking, making wow feel outdated compared to its competitors.

The new playable race, Dracthyr, is also a letdown. Not only is it a boring looking, but its limited options for visage customization are baffling. A dragon should be able to take on the appearance of any race, not just male blood elf and female human. This restriction makes little sense and is a missed opportunity for players to create unique characters.
The avatar models for the existing races are outdated and lack customization options. The transmog system is also outdated, and many sets use the same designs with different colors.
WoW also still suffers from too much focus on e-sports and not enough on actual MMORPG content. The game's racial segregation is still in place, which means that players cannot choose their favorite faction and races together. This outdated faction system is holding the game back in free player choice.

The story in Dragonflight is locked behind a grindy renown system, which makes it difficult to fully experience the game's narrative. The storytelling itself is also lackluster, with little depth or nuance. This is a significant disappointment again.

Finally, the graphics in many zones of the old world are very, very, very dated and unimpressive. The game feels more or less the same as it has for years, with few new additions to make it feel fresh and exciting. Dragonflight is a disappointing expansion so far that fails to live up to the expectations of its players.

Speaking of outdated elements, let's talk about the class and faction limitations. Want to play a certain class? Too bad, it's probably unbalanced and you'll be at a disadvantage.
Want to join a certain faction? Sorry, the game's faction system is so dated and racist that it feels like it was designed by a group of pre-schoolers who just learned what stereotypes were. Racial segregation is such a great feature, right? Right??

The loot system is also a complete mess.
Good luck trying to get anything worthwhile when playing in a group, because you're either going to have to fight your teammates tooth and nail or just accept the fact that you'll be stuck with the scraps.
But hey, at least there's plenty of grinding to keep you occupied, right? That's right, you'll spend countless hours repeating the same tasks over and over again, all in the name of some vague sense of progression... I guess?
And let's not forget about the complete lack of meaningful RPG activities. The reason why I tried out this game in the first place. Player housing? Customization options? Pfft, who needs those when you can spend all your time grinding for better gear that will be outdated in the next patch.

The communication from the devs or rather, the lack thereof. It's as if they enjoy keeping their players in the dark and making biased decisions that favor certain players over others. But hey, who needs fairness and equality when you can just keep milking your fanbase for every penny they're worth, right?

The graphics are still completely outdated, despite all the LGBTQ stuff, they still have racial segregation as a cornerstone of the game, dictating which faction we can join and which we cannot, which makes Blizzard appear extremely hypocritical, as others have rightly criticized. There is no player housing, no modern customization options, clunky models, clipping, hardly any emotes for playable characters, and they can't even wear a hat without their hair disappearing completely from their heads.

Instead of catching up to other games, Blizzard prefers to rely on the remaining whales and addicts who simply can't let go, no matter how bad the game may be. The story is still terrible, but who is surprised after Battle for Azeroth and Shadowlands? And the rest of the game consists solely of renown grinds and dungeons, as well as raids that you can undertake with completely unbalanced classes.

    Unhealthy game community.
Still questionable restrictions like racial segregation for Horde and Alliance.
Due to the loss of so many players over the last two expansions, the game is almost dead playerwise, even on high pop servers. The world looks empty and that's never a good thing in mmos.

Dragonflight is boring, very repetitive, outdated, is still containing it's racist foundation for the playable factions, has a very cringy story, is unbalanced, ugly looking playable races without modern customizations, it has no fresh ideas at all and is still keeping many restrictions for players. Not worth it's price and definitely not the monthly sub fee on top of that. No wonder there is almost nobody left playing this game. Expand

I'd argue this game is dead for most casuals in this expansion. I guess only the most diehard folks within their guilds are still trucking as usual. The population dip is very apparent. The pvp scene is barely hanging on and pve is the same old treadmill. The story... nope. There are many balance issues and the old world still looks very ugly in this day and age, because the devs just keep ignoring it.

Garbage expansion so far, third time in a row after Battle for Azeroth and Shadowlands. gg Blizzard.

Renown isn’t fun, if you want to get orders going since most want you to have higher renown. It is also not fun to gain for crafting. Open world leaves a lot to be desired. The black dragon area has a lot of mob tagging issues that make it unfun for me to try to get things done there

The black dragon area has a lot of mob tagging issues that make it unfun for me to try to get things done there even in a group.
    Goldmaking possibilities has fallen.
A ton of bugs in some areas.
The Dragon Isles look nice with some exceptions, which look very unfinished. Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdoms etc. look awful. No updates whatsoever on the graphics. Not even for the main cities! lol...
Customization options are just laughable in this game. Evoker has a little bit more options than the others races, but my god, even that race has way too few for a game in this age.
Work orders are not that well thought out.
It is still not possible to play with my friend, who prefers the other faction in the same guild etc. Even though this is supposed to be a soclal game. Also same racist faction system in general like many people pointed out.
World quests weren’t iterated on and are not plentiful so it leaves me diddling my fingers for more rep somewhere or things to enjoy or do.
Dragon flying is straight up copied from Guild Wars.
Yeah no... I'm gonna pass for the next few months until the next patch comes out.
    Not fun so far.

How can it be, that this game costs up to $89.99 for the expansion, $14.99 for each month of play time and has a gigantic cash shop and still delivers us trash like this?
Where is the visual update for which we are waiting like 2 decades by now?
Where is player housing? Where are the customization options? What's up with all the limitations for players? Where is the new playable race?

Where are the new features or are they seriously trying to sell as GW2's dragon riding as their own new feature?

What we get here is ridiculous for such costs.

There is a crazy amount of lgbtq content in Dragonflight. Gay dragons, gay humans, gay elves, gay centaurs, even gay frogs. Also some trans people. Like.... wtf is going on?
There was forced lgbtq stuff in bfa and shadowlands, too, but in Dragonflight... almost every npc is gay and/ or trans.

Especially considering that the foundation of wow is still a racist faction system, which forces players to take part in a racial segregation aspect for playable races.
You have to be really dumb to believe Blizzard would actually care for lgbtq while also keeping glorified racism in their game.

The devs have a lack of passion for the overall game it seems.
Classes are really unbalanced and because of that, pvp in this game isn't really fun.
It is also rather disappointing that factions still have almost all of the old and toxic restrictions, which are really anti-social. Really out of place in a mmo. Opposing factions should not mean, that devs specify what races their players

Dragon flying is fun... at first, then you notice how annoying it is for professions and you wish you could just use normal flying. Though it is an ok compromise of course.
The new zones are full of bugs. Really annoying.
Old zones on the other hand are ugly to look at, as the previous critics mentioned.
The story in Dragonflight is... meh. Not really interesting so far.
    The soundtrack is really nice.
That reskin, which is supposed to be a new race... also meh. It has nice racials and all, but at least to me Evoker look really ugly.

Dragonflight is still de facto at the beginning of its life cycle. Still, one can't help feeling that we desperately needed an adventure like this. With all its pros and cons. [Issue#325]

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight is somehow a breath of fresh air and a celebration of classic design principles in equal measure. The return to more dynamic, old-school talent trees enhances the class fantasy with a seasoning of new abilities across the board. At the same time, the retreat of pressuring, artificial power-gating systems promotes a more healthy gameplay loop. The game is also gorgeous, with a more promising storyline, elevated cinematic delivery mechanics, and deeper core systems which make for one of WoW's best expansions in years.

I appreciate the new interface (it needs getting used to though) and talent system (those dilemmas!), as well as changes to crafting that raise its importance. I enjoyed dragonriding a lot and found quests to be engaging, but was disappointed by dull dungeons and repetitive endgame content. World of Warcraft: Dragonflight is a pretty safe expansion and I expected a bit more from it, but I do feel it has a huge potential that could be fulfilled in the near future.
